Really nice hotel just on the edge of central Gijon. Everything easily walkable. Rooms to a very high standard (if somewhat moodily lit, but that is the style) and junior suite was particualrly good value and well appointed. Breakfast high quality continental with deicious fresh juices. Very nice bar with super comfy seats, great chilled atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks. Friendly, helpful staff. Loved it. Would stay again.

The hotel was in nice condition but no basic amenities as needed in any nice hotel.
No bath tissue in either bathroom, only 1 small water bottle, and lights were so few in a suite with walls painted dark gray or black. Worst problem is that room was hot, thermostat set to heat and no ability on thermostat to set to cool.
Also, poor quality bed mattress and very poor quality pillows. Hotel room are for a good nights sleep and wasn’t possible in a hot room with poor bedding.

An excellent hotel, close to the water and great bars and restaurants. The desk staff was great and very helpful. The woman at breakfast was less wonderful - unengaged in her job and not very helpful. A minor point but not a great ending to a wonderful stay.

There is safe undercover parking a block away .
We were welcomed by friendly and informative reception staff and they were very good in informing us of the various attractions.

Rainy day stay.

First, the staff was great!! The hotel was very clean, good walking location. It appeared that the Hotel had recently been remodeled and did look modern as the name implies. Breakfast was fine, no hot items but adequate. Great shower and very comfortable bed. Parking is a short block away for $14.95/day. It was raining when we were there so did not get to see some of the more interesting parts of the city.

A lovely, elegant hotel on the edge of the main old city in Gijon – it was perfect for our one-night visit. Reception was very warm and welcoming, helping us find somewhere to park the car before checkin (very close, a 3min walk), and calling a taxi to take us to dinner. There is no fridge in the room, but we were able to have room service bring an ice bucket, promptly. The room itself is super quiet, comfortable and (as expected) modern – we had plenty of space to relax and rest, and slept very comfortably. I’d stay here again if we find ourselves back in Gijon!

Marvellous experience to be repeated.

For over 25 years I had stayed in the same hotel in Gijon for my annual business trips and vacations. As my usual hotel was full, I searched and picked this one. It was absolutely wonderful! The service, the location and the pared-down art deco ambience were magnificent. I may not go back to my usual hotel ever again after this marvellous stay at El Moderne.

A converted historic property between the marina promenade and the Old Town with access to the broader beaches.
The rooms are very modern and the breakfast had extensive choices.
The only glitch was the garage situation... it's an underground garage a few blocks away, next to the marina and you get a reduced rate.

Disappointing Stay

First and foremost, this hotel is nicely decorated and clean. But, upon checking in, the front desk kept telling me I didn’t have a room even though I had my confirmation from Hotels.com. After about 40 minutes, they finally admitted they had made a mistake. Some of the rooms back up to an alley and the night we stayed there, the neighbors were partying until 9am (al night). It was not a peaceful night of rest, to say the least. Lastly, we decided at the last minute to get breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant. The server quickly had us sign the bill and then 5 minutes later told us they were shutting down the buffet. Had they let us know they would be closing in 5 minutes, we obviously would have gone elsewhere.
