Ski slopes are easy to reach via the bus that stops near by. The accommodation is spread over a number of blocks with one being a fair distance from the main reception. Not necessarily an issue in summer but dragging cases over icy snow in winter can be a challenge!!

I was pleasantly surprised to receive an upgrade to a large apartment with a spectacular view of the valley and the river. There’s an extensive network of paths easily accessible from the hotel. It is an easy walk into town and the train station.

I recently stayed at Ustedalen Hotel and found the apartment to be clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. The apartment itself was well-maintained, offering a pleasant and relaxing environment during my stay.

However, I encountered some challenges with the hotel’s staff. On a few occasions, I received conflicting directions and advice, which caused confusion. It seemed that the staff were not very familiar with the local area and were not particularly eager to assist when I sought help. This lack of support made it a bit difficult to get the information I needed for navigating the area.

Additionally, the pathways around the hotel were extremely icy, making them hazardous to walk on. With temperatures rising to 4°C on two days, it would have been an ideal opportunity to clear the ice and ensure safer conditions for guests.

The swimming pool also did not meet expectations. The water was cloudy, and there was a strong, unpleasant smell, which led me to question the pool’s cleanliness. Furthermore, basic amenities like hairdryers and lockers were missing, which would have made the experience more convenient and comfortable.

While the apartment was great, I hope the hotel can improve in these areas, particularly with staff responsiveness, pathway safety, and pool maintenance. I’m sure these changes would significantly enhance the overall guest experience.

Great base for a week's skiing

We were in building D in a 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor. I thought the pictures made it look fresher and newer than it appeared in reality, but everything was exactly as described and it was a really economical option in an otherwise expensive resort. The kitchen had a dishwasher and enough crockery/pans but no baking trays for the oven, we had to use the grill pan. Massive fridge/freezer which was great. Individual temperature controls for the rooms which worked well. We found around 7/8pm after everyone had had a day on the slopes, there was not much hot water, but if you timed it right shower was fine. We made use of the hotel swimming pool a couple of nights but it was cool by uk standards. Lovely sauna afterward though! We had breakfast one day which was plentiful and loads of choice, but too expensive to repeat for 4 of us! We did enjoy it though. Make sure to book linen in advance if you are flying and need the luggage space, the hotel email worked fine for this. The cost for 4 sets was very reasonable. On the last night we ventured into the hotel bar for a game of shuffleboard but it seemed you had to be the favoured few to get a spot! We waited for 3 rounds of people and got a less than sympathetic response when I mentioned this to the staff! Otherwise they were fine. The ski bus goes from right outside and takes you to Slaatta or town. We arrived by train and it was about 15-20 mins walk from the station. There is a good taxi company, Geilo taxi.

Decent hotel, good restaurant, friendly staff and breakfast was alright. The sauna was a plus.
The rooms weren’t up to standards, though. I booked a double room, but it turned out they only have twin rooms. Beds were poor and the rooms were ill equipped.

In stead of somewhere to sit down or somewhere to keep your clothes, the room was equipped with a dish washer and a worktop. If it was a fully functioning kitchen I could see the point. Turns out, it was not quite a hotel room and not quite an apartment. I don’t recommend staying here.

Nice comfortable place a little dated and there is no stairs so lugging heavy bags is not great luckily i had a ground floor room. Also there is limited onsite parking options. The view from my room of the mountains was amazing! Electric car charging not available on site but there was a charging place about 5 km away

Location, the hotel and staff were great however the first night, the temperature in the room was approx 26oC due to fault with the heating, so we had to sleep with the windows open. Reported to reception, but they couldn't do anything until maintenance came in the morning. The following day, there was no hot water for the shower and then this happened every morning until we left. Occasionally it came through, so we had to have a very quick shower.

Good for skiing

Ustadelen consists of several stand alone buildings of a variety of different sized apartments and I assume some hotel rooms. As such if not in the main building where reception is it becomes very difficult to communicate any problems or issues. The apartments are not equipped with an internal phone to allow direct contact with reception which adds to the difficulty.
We had booked the “higher grade” apartment for our family. And it was exactly as per photos. What the photos don’t show are the bedrooms which were incredibly small with very small single beds. But on the whole this didn’t bother us. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed for a short stay to cook simple breakfasts and meals. The most disappointing thing was the lack of ability to control heating directly. Even though there were thermostats for each room/ area, these turned out to not control the system which was controlled remotely by main office. The second frustration was the location directly on the train line, constant shipping freights meant interrupted sleep at night as sound proofing wasn’t adequate to prevent the noise. Access to pool was paid which again isn’t a problem EXCEPT the pool was cold and the sauna not working…so felt it was very poor for a service that you pay for. The restaurant was closed for the duration of our visit which meant we couldn’t have served breakfast any day (a shame). Ski bus stopped exactly opposite the building so was convenient in that respect.

we stayed at this hotel 3 years ago and had a good experience so we decided to come back again - this time we booked an apartment (there was no rooms available at the hotel). Unfortunately, this time the experience was totally different. we we're greeted by super indifferent receptionist that told us that the room comes without any towels and linen so we had to rent 2 sets for 200NOK, and this, I must say, surprised my a lot as I travel a lot and it's the first time I encountere such phenomenon... the apartment seemed nice at first, as described, but later we found out dirty stains on the sofa, the entire floor was dusty. noise isolation was poor so we heard a lot of noise from nearby noisy kids... and worse of all the heating system barely warmed the cold room (-7C outside).
the next day we complained to the receptionist, another colleague this time, about the noise and faulty heating and he said that there's nothing he can do about it but he offered another apartment - a better, bigger one. and guess what?! the apartment was even colder, without a proper working heating system... we didn’t bother to complain once again since nothing will change...

Interesting. I loved it but a few others thought it was more like camping. Bathrooms huge. Bedrooms tiny. Only negative to the rooms was the beds are too close to the wall. Making your own beds with the linens was awkward but easy. Again…I loved it. Refrigerator. Full kitchen, space was plentiful.

I stayed one night and had to leave around 5 in the morning, so I missed the breakfast. The checkin process was painless and I was given an apartment for the night. It had lots of space, was modern, clean, with a fully equipped kitchen, and with a great view from the balcony. The hotel is a located 1km to the west of Geilo centre; no problem for me since I had a car. There was ample, free parking space. Free wireless Internet included for all my devices, reasonably good bandwidth. All in all a very good stay and good value for money.

Nice hotel and would stay again

Hotel is very nice. I travel often and feel a lot of the other reviews may be a bit harsh. Yes the hotel is quite dated but all else is very good. Views were excellent, staff were very friendly, dinner was great, and sauna/fitness room were good also.

Only cons was that the breakfast was not nearly as good as other hotels in Norway and the weight room can use some tidying and racks to organize things (and perhaps a treadmill). Because the hotel is a bit dated, there is some noise you hear in your room but this really shouldn't be more than a minor inconvenience. I am a light sleeper and didn't have a problem.

The room was comfortable enough. The only thing missing was tea and coffee making facilities in the room so we took our own. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The sauna and pool very good. Plentiful breakfast buffet!

Nice enough, no view anymore

Quality of the room and hotel is fine, the room is comfortable and the breakfast as standard. It is a shame they have built a new block as there is no longer any view of the slopes from at least one side of the building. We investigated the pool, it was ok but very small, and the sauna wasn't on. Hotel is less than a kilometre from the station.

Rooms were comfortable, clean and warm. They were a little on the small side, but sufficient. Was impressed with the water temperature of the shower, although it did take quite some time to warm up. The breakfast provided was good. Staff were helpful. I would suggest its best to have a car if you stay at this hotel, particularly in winter as the walk to the centre can be icy making it difficult in the evening, meaning you're somewhat confined. Overall the stay was pleasant.

Ustedalen Hotell - A nice place to stop

We stayed here as a halfway point between Bergen and Oslo. I enjoyed the hotel, I thought it had a very cozy feel to it. Our room had a beautiful view, and the pool was a nice option as well. At dinnertime, we went down to the restaurant and a table was reserved for us, which was a nice touch. The buffet was decently priced and the food was delicious. Afterwards, a lot of the guests spent time in the lounge and it was a good time. I wish they had offered a complementary breakfast. The Geilo area offers a lot of activity options for people of all ages so this is a great place to stop. Overall, I would recommend Ustedalen Hotell.

Stor modern lägenhet med fantastisk utsikt. Stort plus för garaget med laddare. Att det inte blir fem stjärnor beror på att det inte är ”ski in/out”. Det funkade iofs bra med busshållplatsen alldeles utanför dörren, men det är lite knöligt att passa tider på semestern. Är man en duktig skidåkare och snötillgången är god kan man komma hem utan buss från Halstensgårds café.

Gulvene var slidte, folk har tydeligvis gået rundt indendørs i deres våde skistøvler.

Vægge havde skrammer efter ski og lign, og enkelte paneler var anslåede fra gæster der havde været uforsigtige.

Der var gjort rent, der var dejlig varmt, sengene var tilpas bløde, køkkenet i æejligheden havde lille fryser, køleskab, komfur, ovn og kaffemaskine, så man kunne lave alt det mad man ville. Der var også opvaskemaskine wuhuu.. vi havde udsigt til skiløb, bjerge, og et sommerhus område, der var masser af sne, og vi kunne køre på kælk få meter fra lejligheden. Derudover kunne vi gå til en udemærket familievenlog langrendssbane ved at gå lige ned af bakken, over vejen, og ligeud i ca. 500m.

Frokost (morgenmad) var rigtig god, og svømmepølen var dejlig opvarmet.

Alt gullende rent, gullbra opplegg - hadde med sengetøy&håndkler selv, og betalte mindre enn et kjipt stabbursrom på Haukeliseter (uten bad, og det medlemspris til tross). Ekstra stjerne for med svømmebasseng og badstue (koster 50kr/snute)

현장에 도착했을때 침대시트와 수건을 따로 지불 해야 이용할 수 있다는 사실을 알았다.
인당 100크로나…
미리 안내사항이 나와있었다면 집에서 가져갔거나 다른 호텔을 예약했을것이다.

여기는 호텔이라기 보다는 서비스로 봤을때 Cabin or Hytta의 개념으로 봐야한다.
헬스장, 수영장 등 부대시설 이용하려면 물론 추가 비용. 아침도 한사람당 200크로나.

장 봐다가 직접 해먹어도 좋을 것같다.
그리고 이불에 머리카락이 몇가닥, 욕실에도 머리카락 몇가닥이 있었다. 그냥 내가 치웠다.
퇴실시, 시트 모두 직접 겉어 내야 하고
쓰레기도 모아서 문앞에 내놓아야 한다.
I wouldn’t say this is a Hotel but Hytta.

하루당 숙박비가 그렇게 저렴 한것도 아닌데,
그점은 실망스러웠다.

좋았던건 바깥으로 보이는 풍경~~뷰가 좋았다
겨울에 오면 스키장뷰 ㅋ자연, 산, 말이 보이는

Don’t go.

First of all Gailo during summer is a major turist trap, everything cost money and way too much and the service isn’t great either.
Ustedalen Hotell Geilo was unfortunately in line with the rest of Geilo, firstly they hadn’t made our reservation correctly so we didn’t have a room, and it seemed only by luck that they could get us a room.
Because we stayed in the apartments the sheets for our stay cost extra, using the pool ekstra, the breakfast buffet was below mediocre and cost extra, takeout from the restaurant not allowed even though it was described as an option in the brochure.
Our recommendation is to just avoid going to Geilo and go somewhere else in this breathtaking country.
