Friendly hotel..apart from one particular guest..dragging furniture around their floor/our ceiling at night..god knows why. Bed was comfortable..pillows were AWFUL..like wet cement..bathroom so small the door couldn’t open beyond 18” or so. Crawling with large ants for some reason..all over the toilet bowl. The decor was very tired and quite badly done.
The atmosphere was lovely..green plants in a central courtyard..lovely rooftop cafe..good food and friendly staff. Great location for seeing Oaxaca..great cafes and shops within a few minutes walk. The centre of town..Centro..I think was really close. It’s a place to base not to lounge in..small gym..avoided that..!! Stay there for sure..but get out and about in town..it’s absolutely beautiful.

The first room felt like a dungeon. Sink had broken chips and saw a cockroach. Terrible lighting and smelled weird. Asked to change rooms. Moved to a different much nicer room but they made me pay full price and I had to pay for both rooms despite not using one. The second room had no towels. The room was spacious, clean and the entire hotel was as described in the pictures. We were upgraded to a room with a private terrace & infinity pool, with amazing views of the Santo Domingo church. The rooftop shared jacuzzi and sun deck were amazing as well. The front desk staff were amazing & helped us with directions, activities and booking ground transportation. The location was central and we felt safe walking everywhere. We would definitely stay here again.

A truly rustic hotel still in Centro but a few blocks away from the noisier sections. Friendly, accommodating service from the staff. Bed was comfortable. The on-site restaurant is small but had great food and great service. The property is well-maintained but quite old, so expect non-contemporary accommodations like a tiny bathroom, can hear your neighbors, etc.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It perfectly captured the local culture, making our experience feel more connected to the city. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, even letting us check in early, which we really appreciated. We also had breakfast at the hotel, and it was delicious – a great start to our day. Staff were very nice and almost everyone was very helpful. the rooms were clean but the Lightning was dim- I asked one of the girls at the front desk if a lightbulb could be put in the lamp over the sink but she was not helpful- she asked me if the bathroom had a light and did not say anything else. A woman needs light to put on make-up a man needs more light to shave. Walking to the rooms down below did not have proper lighting either. It was in a great location thank you

The hotel was beautiful and the pool in the room was a really nice addition. The staff were great and very friendly and helpful. The location was also great for food, bars, shops, the town etc
My only couple of comments for improvement would be that the room could have done with a little more attention to the finish and it was a little dark. It could have done with another light.
It was also noisy in the morning, if you are a light sleeper it may not be the one for you.

This was a great find on my first visit to the city,! The location is ideal: near the Center, but not loud . The rooms were colorful and well-maintained. The best thing was the rooftop spa, which I used twice a day. It has a spectacular view of Santo Domingo! (I just wish that it were open after seven.) The breakfast was great, especially thanks to our waitress Yvonne. She was super friendly and attentive. The front desk staff were all very courteous and helpful.

Decent hotel and great location. A few things could make it better. Not lots of light in the rooms. Pathetically weak shower pressure. Hours of restaurant are pretty random. Itblooksnlike there's a pool bitnits just a javuzzinand it doesnt get hot. There is a large deck bit it has no furniture, nothing going on.

Very enjoyable stay, travelling solo and appreciated the 24/7 front desk who were all lovely. Close to some great bars and restaurants for drink or dinner and to walk home safely. Beautiful quaint property with lovely colourful decorations. Room was comfortable enough though the mattress was very firm and water pressure a bit light. Not deal breakers for me though.
The restaurant attached is small and generally only open for breakfast and lunch, maybe because was quiet at hotel but while food was fine, given Oaxacan cuisine is amazing I was expecting more and would have eaten elsewhere on reflection but was convenient and amaZing views over city towards San Domingo church.
Would recommend as a lovely spot to explore Oaxaca from and be very comfortable and excellent service :)

We had a lovely time at this hotel with our family of 5 - staying in 2 rooms. We loved the outdoor terrace space. We enjoyed breakfast and midday snacks at the restaurant. The workout room is well equipped which we did use on some rainy days. Beds were firm, clean and comfortable. The hotel is charming with a welcoming and very helpful staff. It is a short enjoyable walk to Oaxaca sites.

Location is very convenient, at the edge of the city center but still within walking distance.

The jacuzzi and spa area closes at 7pm, this was unexpected as is regarded as private area for the suite. Couldn't find that in the policies online in Expedia.

Better cleaning in the shower is commendable as there was black mold behind the window curtain.

The door curtain could be darker and thicker, it lets the light and voices in.

This property was so beautiful with courtyard gardens and cafe, terraza and roof top Jacuzzi with panoramic views! It made the longer walk from the bus station worth it! It was only 10 minutes from the Zocolo in Centre and close to several nearby parks and churches and cafes and restaurants. I would highly recommend. The view alone is spectacular and not to be missed!

Pretty property very close to the center of everything, quiet, no huge amenities but the small lounging pool has a beautiful view! Our room under the pool deck could be a little loud at times due to machinery but overall we really enjoyed it and was fair for the price. Staff were a plus, available 24/7 and helped us book our taxi transport to the airport when we left. Would return!

The property lists no cancellation policy in Expedia. None. I did not intend to book this property and accidentally tapped on it. At this point a \"no cancellations\" policy was made visible. Calls to Expedia to explain the error in booking were met with assurances that they would \"sort it out\" but in the end they failed to do this. Management at this property was unresponsive and generally unhelpful and the lack on onsite parking was a deal breaker. Overall, I'd call this a scam that is all about fleecing people out of money. Apparently hanging onto an accidental charge they didn't deserve was more important than making a potential future client and neighbor happy. Not even a partial refund for nights more than 24 hours out was possible despite attempting to cancel within ten minutes of making the booking by accident. They will never get my booking or recommendation with that kind of attitude.

Rooms are a bit small. Bathroom seemed like it might have had some black mold on the wall and has mild smell that never goes away. Hotel restaurant wasn't good. Hotel Casa del Sótano appears to be a well-regarded hotel in Oaxaca, praised for its excellent service, cleanliness, prime location, and charming Oaxacan character. While some minor issues like small bathrooms and hard bed, but nonetheless, the comfortable and convenient base for exploring Oaxaca
indicates the reason I would stay there again.

I liked the fact that it was close to restaurants and shopping. The employees were very helpful and friendly. Room kept very clean. What I didn’t like was the location of the toilet bar. It was behind me instead of to the right or left of me. Hard to twist your body to get to the toilet paper. The room also didn’t have a bath or hand towel bar. It only had a hook.

Close enough to downtown but without the noise. It is small but has everything you need.
Got 2 king rooms, one was great and the other was not. The ac did not work well in one. The drain smell was bad. A chair was very soiled and towels were bad. You get what you paid for.
The workers were very nice, courteous and helpful.
