The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. The hotel is in the center of the city, walking distance from everything. Good that it has AC. The shower was a bit small. The room was noisy from the street and you could hear everything from the hallway. The quality of the toiletries provided wasn't great, there wasn't any conditioner.

The hotel was nice but the staff were the issue. I felt watched my whole stay there. They would come to my room to complain that there was an extra guest in my room. I told them they were just here to use the restroom and we were leaving but they were trying to raise an issue for us.

Hotel Mayis is well situated close to all in walking distance. The rooms are small, beds are comfy, no safe or mini fridge, tv is small good channels, wifi and good AC.
This hotel is great as a long stay or just a few days.
The staff was always available and courteous, helpful and friendly.

Esta muy centrico puedes ir caminando a los lugares inportantes del centro y los restaurantes por la noche. Esta muy limpio el hotel, es chico el cuarto y el hotel el si no tiene muchas amenidades. Pero tienes todos los lugares super cerca caminando super recomendable si vas a pasar todo el dia conociendo y el hotel solo es para dormir.

Hotel en el centro de oaxaca

Estaba limpio, rentamos 3 habitaciones pero una de ellas ya en la madrugada daba olor a drenaje, durante el día todo bien, el personal es amable y atento.
Queda súper cerca del Zócalo, andador turístico, restaurantes y bares de la ciudad.
Era conveniente para comprar recuerdos y regresar al hotel.

Great staff and location, poor bathroom

Great service/staff. Great walkable location close to centro but not on busy street so it was quiet, good AC, decent wifi. Bathroom was tiny and smelled like mildew or bad pipes so the smell went into the room which wasnt pleasant.

Estaba muy limpio, bien ubicado . A pesar de que la habitación nos tocó con vista a la calle no se escuchaba mucho ruido porque tienen doble vidrio las ventanas.

Nos guardaron nuestro equipaje después del check-in para que siguieramos disfrutando de la ciudad.

Basic Accommodations in the Heart of Centro

If you just need a place to sleep, shower and take a break from walking around beautiful Oaxaca, Hotel Mayis fits the bill. Rooms are a walk up to second floor facing the street. Noise wasn't a problem for us. Rooms are clean and basic. As a Westerner used to a lot of comfort, bed was a bit hard for me but for 3 nights it was fine. Three of us stayed in a 2 queen room and had plenty of space. This hotel is very small and doesn't have any other amenities but coffee, food, etc. are all close by. Front desk staff was very friendly.

I booked a double bed room for a week in Oaxaca. I was meeting a friend there and upon arriving at the hotel the desk clerk stated my room was only for one person and wanted to charge me twice for what I had already paid for. The Expedia app states that the room is for 2 people and that any one extra including children maybe charged extra. We were only 2 persons so no additional charges were expected. I argued my point and the clerk said we could figure it out later and that I could proceed to the room. We were giving two remotes for the two TVs and Air Conditioners. Why would there be 2 of everything if its a room for 1 person. Well its not its meant for two and I wasn't paying double. Please be aware of these situations when traveling.

Hotel Mayis is a small hotel that is close to everything in the center of town. It is clean, yet it needs attention to get it up to par with other hotels in this price range. Towels were rough and thin and a dingy color of what used to be white. The sheets also need to be replaced; one of our beds had a bottom sheet with holes in it and the sheets had some stains in them. On the positive side, rooms were clean and the bathrooms had new sinks and toilet and there were plenty of electrical outlets.

Terrible service, small rooms, right in the center

The staff at the Hotel Mayis seem to not understand what hospitality is. This may be one of the worst experiences I have ever had in terms of customer service. Let me explain. I had booked the Mayis for 6 nights with Hotels.com a few weeks in advance before a friend's wedding. When my wife and I arrived around 7pm, we were charged for the whole 6 nights in advance. Once in the room, we noticed the images Mayis has on Hotels.com don't show how small they are. Everything's small; the shower, TV, ceiling fan, etc. We slept one night there and decided to get another hotel because we were tripping over each other. When we talked to the manager about an early checkout/ refund, she said it's impossible and that she'd move us to a bigger room instead. We took the key to the bigger room, but found that it too was small. So, I spoke to Hotels.com. They couldn't get the Mayis to do early checkout, but they did give me a credit and helped me get a room at the Victoria! (Thanks guys!) After I switched hotels, the Mayis actually called me there demanding their room key back so they could rent it to someone else!..while still keeping my money! I said NO and kept the key in case I needed a place to crash while in the center, although I never did. The last day on my Mayis booking, I tried to let a friend stay there. Mayis made a huge fuss about it and refused to let him stay, basically angry that I had not let them double book the room. Just awful. But, hey, the room WAS clean!

Was an okay stay, just plain vanilla.

Clean modern small hotel on noisy street. No restuarant, not much of anything of interest to say about the hotel other than it is efficient and clean. Rooms are tiny and the bathroom is very small with an even tinier space for the shower.

Although I'd paid for the first night in full in advance, and called ahead to alert the staff that we wouldn't be checking in until 10am the next day, the desk clerk attempted to charge us an additional 200 pesos to \"check in early.\" That's not a lot of money, to be sure -- but more than annoying given I'd already paid for the room and now had to negotiate for something that was already ours. Also found that about half the time our shower had no water, regardless of time of day. (No way the hot water was gone at 5:30 in the morning.) The standard room is very small, but otherwise fine.

Conveniently located, Hotel Mayis is a good value for the peso. Staff is accommodating (only fair English if that's important). Beware, however, that the least expensive rooms are very small (my wife said \"no way!\") and on the street which is noisy. Nice bakery right across the street and two inexpensive cafeterias are right down Morelos a block or so.

Highly recommend this hotel. The owner Sr Jorge is a gentleman and so helpful and accommodating. We spent 6 nights in the small, 2 bed room #107 and it was clean and perfect. The location of the hotel is close to everything and safe. The last two nights we spent in the larger, 2 bed room #106 and all was great except for the unpleasant smell in the bathroom due to some chemical they had used to clear the drainage problem. Just make sure to check on this before you book, otherwise, we highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel, except for that one thing...

First, the positive: when Daniel was at the front desk, you were in good hands. He is charming, professional, speaks excellent English, and does so much to make your stay the best it can be.

The negative: like so much of Mexico, they don’t seem to understand the basics of modern plumbing – you need to have a trap in all drains to prevent the backup of sewer gas!

Our first room smelled so bad, we asked for a change of rooms. The second was better, but we now carry our own plastic cover to block the shower drain in the bathroom, wherever we go.

Hotel Mayis was so good in so many ways – they took the care to choose beautiful new bathroom fixtures, the beds were comfortable, staff eager to please – it was a pity the plumber was so unprofessional. But despite this, we still enjoyed our stay, and would recommend Hotel Mayis, with the one caveat.

Best hotel in Oaxaca for the money

My wife and I stayed here during our visit to Oaxaca. We find this hotel to be the best location we stayed at for the price. Every detail from the modern design, the hand woven curtains, the pillow selection, comfortable mattress to the rain shower was just great. I wouldn't be wished the hotel provided nicer towels or a safe in our rooms, but both those things are nice to have.

Good Option in a Great Loacation

This is a quaint little hotel with friendly staff. There are only six or so rooms and dorm beds available. A couple of the employees speak English, but majority only hablen Espanol. The shower was a bit small (read small), curtains were semi-transparent, and bed was a bit firm. But it is a clean practical room in a central location with a narrow balcony. I would highly recommend it. I was in Oaxaca for a week taking Spanish lessons so I wasn't looking for anything glamorous. That being said, I don't think Oaxaca is a place with many five star options or where you need stay somewhere luxurious. It's only a couple blocks from the Zocolo, Santo Domingo and great restaurants/mezcal bars. For the $40USD I payed it was comfortable and well worth the price.

Rente la habitación para dejar maletas y descansar ya que no me quedé a dormir en la noche ya que fue solo para una escala de mi vuelo en Oaxaca esperando tuvieran la cortesía de entregarme la habitación antes del check in y poderla usar antes de irme por lo que me dijeron que no se podía a pesar de que les explique la situación necesitan tener personas en recepción que sepan resolver con mejor atención y criterio este tipo de situaciones para que uno quiera volver.

Great Location, But Noisy and Lacking Amenities

The location was great, but the walls were extremely thin, and I could hear people talking late into the night, making it impossible to sleep. Soundproofing is definitely needed. The amenities were minimal—there was no kettle or refrigerator in the room, so I couldn’t make tea or store takeout food. If you’re looking for a comfortable stay, this might not be the best choice.

La temperatura del agua fue un problema

Todo en cuanto a limpieza y amabilidad de los empleados excelente, sólo que llegamos y la sorpresa fue que el cuarto no tenía ventanas y además terrible la instalación del agua, no se lograba entibiar, pasaba de hirviendo a súper fría, lo reportamos la primera noche y no vinieron a checarlo ni aceptaron cambiarnos de cuarto

This is a clean, quiet, centrally located place with very basic amenities, if you are only looking for a place to rest.
One of the issues is that rhey don’t have free TV, you’ll need to use your Netflix / apple etc. account which is not acceptable for a place that charges $120 US a night

El hotel es moderno, las habitaciones limpias y de buen tamaño excepto el área de la ducha, este es muy pequeño cuando uno se está bañando los codos chocan con las paredes o la cortina. Un buen detalle del hotel y que se agradece mucho colocan café y galletas a partir de las 7 de la mañana.
