Hotel didn’t try to make the stay welcoming. The pool was covered till 10am or later, so no early swimming. Bar not open most hours or days. Room stunk a bit, because of sewer gas, they had covers over drain to help, but it didn’t help. Location was great and place was pretty, but wouldn’t stay here again.

Hotel de la Parra was excellent in many ways. It was off season so we enjoyed quietness and the service. Swimming in the pool was tranquil in the hustle of busy city center. Ever staff was cordial and responsive. Our room was air conditioned so we were able to relax and enjoy the stay any time of the day. We enjoyed excellent breakfast offered at the courtyard. All in all, we would reuse the hotel next time we visit again.

Room with no window
The hotel gets a one star review because it provided a room with no window (for $300/night).
We arrived late and were given a room with no window or other source of natural light. It was like a large and claustrophobic cupboard.
The next day we told the manager that the hotel should not be letting such rooms. In many countries it is illegal to have a bedroom with no window, for amenity and fire-safety reasons. The manager provided only excuses (\"many hotel rooms in Mexico have no windows\", \"It's an old building and hard to convert\", etc). We asked for some compensation and a change of room. An alternative room had a very small opaque window and little light. It was poor value.
We found a better room nearby at half the price, but the hotel refused to let us move out. We were eventually provided with better accomodation (no compensation for the inadequate room).
The hotel also does not meet Mexican fire safety regulations because it has no signs showing fire emergency escape routes.

It is on a quiet street. The swimming pool is great after being out in the hot sun. The staff was really wonderful— very helpful and always friendly. All very clean. Doors could be wide open and there were no bugs. The one somewhat annoying thing was Ave Maria blasting from a nearby church at midnight every night, and other music at 6 am.

We were very comfortable in a well appointed standard room with king bed, good bathroom with rain shower, coffee maker, good temperature control, and quiet. While the room was equipped with good lighting, the natural daylight was dark. Just go out the door to the lovely pool to spend time. The hotel is well located to zocalo and is within 6 block walk of everything interesting in Oaxaca. The staff takes special interest in helping guests - we were unable to get a table at Casa Oaxaca, but the hotel called them and got us a table. Highly recommend Hotel De La Parra.

Very quiet and serene atmosphere in the very centre of the old city. The staff are impeccably helpful and courteous. We were in a spacious and comfortable room, but I am aware that some of the rooms, though spacious, have no significant windows and could potentially feel claustrophobic. Really nice choice, depending on the room you choose. Some rooms are right on the dining courtyard and you will hear everything from inside as the building is stone with no insulation. That said, you will not hear any street noise. Pool was a huge selling point.

Hotel de la parra is perfectly situated on a quiet street close to the main square. The staff is super friendly and helpful with scheduling a taxi pick-up for our red-eye flight. They were right on time. This really is one of the best deals we've seen in Oaxaca city! We had the suite with a large bathtub and huge bathroom. Also slept like a log in the king sized bed and comfy pillows. I would definitely stay here again.

We were quoted one price upon reservation and when we reached the airport we were given another price (much higher). Booked a junior suite and was upgraded to master suite. Very nice room. Noise cancellation windows were a big plus as the hotel is on the zocalo and super noisy at night. The pool is a very tranquil. You feel like you are in a quiet garden not the busy hustle of downtown Oaxaca. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Most speak English The hotel is old and like most places in Mexico has trouble with water and sewage, but overall would highly recommend the hotel. It’s in the perfect location.

Pero la habitación que nos asignaron estaba terrible, la decoración como si hubieran juntado los muebles que les sobraron de la casa de alguien, muebles viejos y de mala calidad. Las toallas percudidas y las sábanas rasposas. Pero sobre todo el último día hubo una bomba de agua o máquina que hizo ruido fuerte toda la noche. Me quejé pero no se solucionó el problema. Las coladeras del baño olían a caño por ratos, muy desagradable. Francamente yo no volvería a llegar ahí.

The hotel is ideally located by the zocalo, near restaurants, the marketplace, and sites to visit. Everything is an easy walk. The hotel has a lovely courtyard where breakfast is served and another courtyard where there is a pool and bar, ideal for when the afternoon gets too hot.

A nice stay here, however a few things…at this price they REALLY need to upgrade the crappy towels. Also they really GOUGE you with taxi ride prices to and from Airport. Don’t do it! Just get your own taxi which costs a third of what the hotel charges you. Lastly, breakfast was decent, but staff very absent minded! The staff is super friendly and helpful, the historical, colonial construction is quant and beautiful, and our two bedroom suite was comfy, spacious, and surprisingly quiet given that we were so near the Zocolo during the Day of the Dead week of festivities. What a great hotel. Stylish common spaces and pool area (with bar!), clean room with high ceilings and modern bathroom, and the absolute best staff. I was a total dumbdumb and messed up our arrival time for our transfer and the staff called and worked it out. They gave great recommendations for places/neighbourhoods to go for Dias del los muertos and greeted us like friends every time we came back “home”. Would absolutely stay again. What a dreamy hotel in the middle of a wonderful city!

This is a great, cute, small hotel. It has a kitchen small kitchen. I believe there is probably four employees and they pretty much do everything they’re from cook bartend etc. place is clean service is great they serve breakfast during the day they serve maybe three plates of appetizers and they do not serve dinner but it’s OK because I’m sure you’ll go in town explore dinner places there’s plenty. This place is beautiful for pictures and great pool area affordable prices. Close to everything in Oaxaca Centro
