The hotel is centrally located close to restaurants and shopping. We asked for late check out, it was declined even though the rooms were empty afterwards. The ac wasn’t working and the hot water ran out after a couple of minutes.

It’s a budget-friendly choice but not worth it even though the location is great. The property is furnished in antiques and has a “shabby chic” charm, but is a bit run-down, particularly the bathrooms, which are badly in need of renovation (we saw more than one). This is all the more reason they should be well cleaned. Instead, ours had not been cleaned at all - there were wads of hair in both the shower drain & the sink! There was a fresh film of soap suds covering the shower door & both the soap & shampoo dispensers were empty. Clearly, the bathroom had not been cleaned at all. The other issue is a total lack of ventilation: they have no windows & no fans, so our room smelled quite musty, plus there’s no way of airing out the bathroom. Any oder will be with you for your entire stay! Not worth it even for the price & location.

The location is great, just 2blocks to the Zocalo or Mercado’s. The hotel is clean, staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. On the down side, the halls were noisy and the beds were very hard. However, the shower was hot and the price is right.

We had problems with showers faucets broken we reported and were not fixed, we had to request another room that also had problems with hot water didn’t last and took cold showers. We reported. I won’t go back. Checking and Checkout was fast. Clerks were nice.

On the good side, the hotel is in a good location and is clean. However the water did not seemed clean, coffee maker did not worked, restaurant service was slow, you often end up eating cold food by the time they bring you the rest of your meal. But by far the most important and negative item was the bed, the mattress was extremely hard, we woke up with back pain almost every morning. We were not the only ones, we heard other guests complained about the mattress been hard and having back pain.

I felt the staff was not concerned at all about my stay. There was only one staff member, the waiter for the restaurant, who would ever greet me before I greeted him otherwise staff ignored me unless I said hola or Buenos Dias. It’s true, I should’ve been willing to try to speak more Spanish, obviously. But if they’re in the tourist business and they ignore tourist needs, I don’t think that speaks very well of them

Heavy construction outside that I would have liked to know about. So much so that the entire front (and only entrance) was blocked for hours at a time, and you had to walk through the construction area where people are working. The power also went out for an entire afternoon that I usually use as a reprieve from the heat - no AC for that time! Last but not least a used bandaid in the shower to welcome us… next time tell people about the construction instead of a surprise terrible time.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Most of the rooms appear to face internally so they are very dark however . Great central location . The internal spaces are a little tired looking though this could be due to roadworks outside creating a lot of dust. Roof terrace is a great spot for watching the sun set with a cold beer.

No hot water for showering, uncomfortable bed

We are disappointed in our stay. We stayed in a deluxe king room which cost about $500CAD for 4 nights (we only lasted 2 nights before having to leave). Upon arrival, there was no hot water for showering and someone else's used towel hanging behind the door. We could overlook the dirty towel, but no hot water was an issue. Further, on the second night, the water in the shower completely stopped running. The bed was hard as a rock and felt like it was a mattress on top of cement blocks. Very unpleasant sleep. The couches in the hallways for sitting are very dusty. The upper patio is nice. The staff seemed friendly although we had minimal interactions. We unfortunately had to check out after our second night after bathing with water bottles. We informed the staff that we would be checking out early and have asked to at least be reimbursed for one night since we only slept there 2/4 nights. We have not been told if they are reimbursing us yet.

We were expecting a bit better for what we paid, but understand that things happen out of their control. We hope they can make it right. I'm hoping our experience was a one off and that others have a better time.

If I could I will rate this hotel a zero. The 3 days I stayed there shower did not work, only drips of water came out and there toilet also did not work. There bed is so hard like a rock. I will not stay in this hotel again. If you decided to stay at this hotel good luck taken a shower and sleeping in a bed that’s hard like a rock.

Property was conveniently located to many food places and artesian spots, great for shopping. Very walkable to many great restaurants, the plaza, shopping, etc. Water pressure was lacking. My cousin stayed in the Carmelina room (we stayed in Don Miguel) and she could not shower during her stay. No one fixed it during our 3 nights there. Imagine coming back to your room after a long day of touring the city and not being able to shower? On her 2nd night she was given a key to a different room so she could shower there. Inconvenient. Also the hotel lacks an elevator, so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs.

Centrally located hotel but downtown had teachers protest so streets had tending shelters.
Bed too firm and in need for new sheets but room clean with nice ac.
Terrace was nice to chat and drink some beers.
Breakfast until 8:30 am so for tours is not good.

Very rude receptionist!!!

On the very first day of our stay ( we were there for 7 nights for over US$200/- per night) the receptionist asked us to pay to launder the face towel ‘cause it was dirty! It got dirty since we had to use some towels on the bathroom floor because initially the shower was not working and we had someone come to fix it. Soon after, the water pressure was whacky and the water got all over the bathroom floor and we had to use the towel to soak up all the spilled water.
The next day, the same receptionist accused us for leaving the sink water running. I clearly told her that there was no way we were going to be wasteful, and infact it was their faulty water pressure that may have caused it.
After that interaction, for the next 5 days, while we were there, she refused to make eye contact with us and made us feel very unwelcomed.

The location was especially good: 2 markets Within one block and the zocalo was 2 blocks away. There was also a rooftop terrace great for a glass of wine while watching the sunset. One night there were fireworks. In the hotel restaurant the meals were excellent and inexpensive.

the property is really close to the main point like el zocalo, mercado 20 de noviembre, benito juarez. I liked it because I was able to walk just few blocks and get to these places. Food has a good tasting, staff is also nice and friendly. We stayed five days a Casa Garay and very much enjoyed our stay. We arrived early and they were able to hold our luggage so we could start exploring the city before checking in. Great customer service from arrival to departure. The staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful. The Casa itself is beautiful and clean, a lot of antiques, art, and a nice seating and patio area. The room was clean and fresh, comfortable beds and a nice air conditioning unit. We choose this place because it was close to the center but not too close. And we were not disappointed, it is within walking distance to a lot of points of interest including the mercados.

For the price, it was fine. The location was great. The hotel is in an old family home that was turned into a hotel so there was a lot of charm. The room I had was quite dark offering little to no natural light. There are no elevators so guests must take stairs with luggage which can be problematic …but again, it’s an old place. I have to say my stay here was quite enjoyable and the staff were very friendly but if you are looking for a place with lots of amenities…you may be disappointed. Location and price was key here my selection on this hotel and it was great on both points.

We had a very nice stay. The staff were all extremely responsive and friendly. The room was always sparklingly clean. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean but the shower was missing its door and so showers made the bathroom floor very wet. This was our first visit to Oaxaca so we didn't know the neighborhoods. Know that this hotel is below the Zocalo about five minute walk below the main tourist area and in the food markets area...lots of hustle and bustle. But our room was quite.

Beautiful hotel. Charming. Staff was great, very friendly and informative. We needed a Covid test before boarding our plane the next day, the receptionist found us a clinic around the corner. First room was very charming and clean but the bed was plywood hard. Asked the front desk if they could get us a softer bed and they got us a different room really quick. Bed was so soft slept all night. Right outside is the Mercado 20 de noviembre and vendors and the zocalo is within walking distance. Only issue we had that there was no hot water! But because it was hot outside I didn’t mind bathing in cold water. It took a while but got thru it. I informed the front staff the next day and the guy up front apologized and said you should of called me. Told him it was no big deal. But it was a very nice hotel. We would stay again just this time I will check the bed and hot water before settling in. Great over all!

Beautiful hotel!! Staff so attentive and kind. The location is perfect walking distance between the cathedral, zocalo (downtown) amazing restaurants and next door to the 20 de noviembre mercado (must go in). In the mercado they have many different places to eat, stands with different things. And they can cook your meat in front of you! But back to the hotel! I felt safe, the rooms are spacious and beautiful interior. The hotel provides water, a mini fridge, coffee inside your room. Everyone there that we encountered was friendly and approachable. They even let us leave our luggage for an hour after we had checked out behind a locked door so we can finish getting a few souvenirs.

Very disappointed! The property is in fact beautiful yet EXTREMELY DIRTY! My room was covered in dust & the coffee pot was disgusting. The staff while polite, did very little to help. They either gave me the incorrect answer or they simply said “I don’t know” and didn’t bother to find out. The location is good, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone. I certainly won’t do so again!

Our first room was very dark, the 2nd room was much lighter and that made a real difference. The water pressure is very low. The hotel is clean but would benefit from a deep clean. The location is right next door to the entrance to the smoked meat part of the market. This whole neighborhood is less upscale than north of the zocolo but it was very local.

Informed front desk and was given zero other options. No refund. Moved to a better hotel. 750 pesos/ night quality. Worst hotel in three week trip.

Disappointing stay - frequent electricity cuts

Do not stay here. We had three nights in Oxaca, it’s a delightful city which you should visit. Two out of three days there was an electricity cut for most of the day & evening. This meant no lights, no WiFi, no charging of phones etc. Instead of the hotel being helpful they acted like everything was ok, it was as if it was normal. They gave us one spot
Light to share as their only action. In usual circumstances I would have expected a refund or discount but they just carried on like it was normal. On the last night a group of friends were outside our room until the early hours, the walls are very thin so you’ll hear everything else which happens at the hotel so take ear plugs! The saving grace for the hotel is the roof terrace which we could escape to.

There was a big hole in the mattress, absolutely no pressure in the shower and so much noose above our room, the hotel was moving furnitures at 11pm...
The location is great but absolutely no charm at all
