We did not have meals. The property and room were very nice, but the location wasn’t convenient for us. Not a very vibrant area, although it was within walking distance to main train station. The drawback was that the room was not soundproof to the road noise, and was a little drafty. Enjoyed the wood bathtub, the public bath, the toiletries and tea in room. Staff was very friendly.

Only disappointment was that check in was at 4:00 …and by most properties allow check in at 3:00. Overall, a lovely experience!

Trying the traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner was also an experience that everyone should try. The Onsen was great, it was on the 6th floor and you have a great view of Kyoto at night. We wanted a ryokan experience and we definitely got it. We booked for dinner and breakfast, ate like kings everyday! Staff are so warm and friendly, they also have very little staff so over the course of our 2 night stay, we saw literally the same people and it gave a very comforting feeling. They do have a communal bath, not an onsen, so it's not one with an onsen if that's what you are looking for.
The room are comfortable, we did book a smaller one , enough for 2 people but did struggle to lay open 2 large suitcase in the room, resulting in one around the corridor near the sink. It is also an older establishment, everything was clean but can tell it's a bit dated. The location is not too bad, I suspect all over Kyoto this would be the case, especially if you want a Ryokan but it was a bigger distance to traverse to the nearest train station. We did rely on bus more which the nearest station then was a 5 mins walk.

A must-stay ryokan in Kyoto
We absolutely loved this Ryokan. It's located on a quiet street, not far from the JR train station. It's a great blend of traditional and modern. The room has tatami mats plus a separate alcove with table, chair, refrigerator - everything you'd expect from a modern hotel.

It was an experience I enjoyed, but I can't say I got the best sleep on the tatamis. The floor layout was inconvenient, how from the toilet you had to walk across the whole room to then wash your hands. The room was extremely tidy and i loved the seating overlooking the window. The public bathhouse, in the hotel, was amazing and while I'm not eager to sleep on the floor again, I'm forever going to be on the lookout for sentos and onsens.

Fantastic ryokan with friendly and attentive staff. The rooms are nice and have new bathrooms from 2022. Their breakfast and dinner options were as good as any traditional Japanese restaurant I tried in Kyoto. The public bath had a scenic view from the 6th floor.

We loved our stay at Ryokufuso! The bus took us straight from Kyoto Station to the front of the building, and the other bus stops that take you to the tourist hotspots were a <10 minute walk away. Despite being a small ryokan, our room was very spacious and the staff were super sweet and friendly. When we arrived one of them (I wish I remembered his name!) gave us a quick tour of our suite and how to use the amenities. They also have an onsen to enjoy even if you have tattoos or piercings, which we really appreciated. The next time I’m in Kyoto I’m for sure staying here!

They were also very helpful to help us acquire a taxi big enough for 6 and provide local restaurant recommendations. Very friendly, helpful, and solicitous staff throughout the whole stay. The hotel is not really walking distance from the train station if you have any baggage. The sidewalks are asphalt and we both broke luggage wheels on the walk. The ryokan is in a quieter part of town, which can be good or bad depending on your desires. The facility itself is a little dated but clean and the staff is really so kind. The rooms were well-sized and the amenities sufficient. The tatami mats smell amazing, which is something I hadn't considered! We had the kaiseki dinner and also breakfast which were elaborate and full of interesting and new food items we hadn't had before. Again, this can be good or bad depending on your spirit of adventure. We utilized the onsen, which was clean and useful.

I know some westerners might scoff at the mat style bedding in those rooms but they do warn you before you book, and I happened to find it quite charming and comfortable. Stayed with our two boys and had a wonderful authentic feeling experience. The room had yakatas which we wore to dinner. It was fun to see everyone in the dining room dressed authentically. The dinner was 8 courses of amazing food we would have never been exposed to elsewhere. The room was covered in tatami mats with mattress pads on the floor. There was a TV but we were having so much fun in the room that we never watched it. I had the onsen to myself. It was so hot that I couldn’t sit in it very long. There was tea and broth to make in the room.

I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful my stay at Ryokufuso was!! The staff are all extremely professional, friendly, and welcoming. In all my years of traveling, this hotel was undoubtedly the most impressive. On top of the wonderful staff, the accommodations were beautiful and comfortable. I also decided to do the dining experience and it was a delicious 5-course meal served in a lovely private room. Every part of my stay was the best I've ever experienced. I don't often leave reviews, but felt that I needed to let the world know just how much I enjoyed and appreciated my stay at Ryokufuso! I recommend it with my fullest confidence!

We were the only Americans there and they were very accommodating and kind helping us navigate the things we were unfamiliar with. Amazing find in Kyoto. This was our second stay in a ryokan and we weren't disappointed. The rooms and amenities are fabulous. We loved our tatami room and the onsen was great. What really sets this place apart from other accomodations is the friendly staff who really make your stay special. Lots of little things like a welcome afternoon tea, tea sets availble for the room and the offer of handwarmers when were were on out way out on a cold evening :)

This is a traditional Japanese ryokan that lived up to all my expectations. Everything is spotlessly clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful the Japanese food well prepared and healthy. I particularly enjoyed the traditional Japanese bath on the 6th floor at the start and end of every day. The location is very good too, a 15 minute walk from the main train station but also on a direct bus line, with a stop a few meters from the front door.

Ryokufuso is such a welcoming stay that we look forward to coming back after a long day of walking around. The best part is the public onsen (which is empty most of the time). Rooms were traditional but yet comforting and fits the 4 of us just nicely with our luggages. Service was great, especially housekeeping - refilling our snacks and changing our towels every day. Amenities, we could use the washing machine for free, but dryer requires 100 Yen for 30 mins. Location and access is perfect! We only had to pay a short 5 mins taxi to transport our luggage from Kyoto station, but other than that, it was so easy to walk to Kyoto station and take trains from Kyoto station to Inari station/Kurama or buses to Arashiyama. Convenience store and a really nice Soba shop (招福亭) is just within 5 mins walk. Staff here is really friendly. Would highly recommend this place to stay when you are in Kyoto.

Terrific breakfast. Really nice people; they were helpful in telling us how to get around. I'm sensitive to the kind of \"othering\" that can happen when people perform traditional for western audiences, but this was low key and interesting. When we arrived we were given tea and \"traditional\" treats, the room has a dressing/sleeping gown with instructions about how to wear it (including gender differentiation; one concern with the performance of the traditional is that it supports stereotypes that the \"other\" is less gender egalitarian than \"we\" are), and there are futons and chairs on the floor. My 9-year old really enjoyed wearing the gown and sitting on the floor. He wanted to stay longer and if I had been able I would have gladly stayed longer myself.

Great place to stay in Kyoto! Roughly a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station and fairly close from Kyoto station via cab. Futons are comfortable. Room is overall clean. The hospitality at this ryokan is above and beyond . For the hospitality alone, I would highly recommend this ryokan!

Kyoto is an amusing town. Transport is relatively easy. Hotel staffs are friendly but a bit disconcerting.
