A bit of a mixed review here.

Front desk was very helpful, while we booked for 1 night, we arrived at around 8am, and planned to check out at 10pm. So they were quite accomodating to get our room ready early (9am) and opted to let us have the breakfast the same day instead of the next.

Location is good too, about 150m from the metro station.

The room unfortunately is quite old and in need of maintenance. As mentioned, we checked in and out on the same day, so didnt really sleep in. Just needed a place to leave our bags and have a quick shower to freshen up.

Bathroom amenities are limited. eg. only 1 large towel, no complimentary toothbrushes or slippers, mislabled shampoo/soap. Faded and chipped furniture, walls, etc Rooms are ok, i'd rate the place as 3 star, definately not a 4 star as they claim.

The breakfast was decent though, a good variety of cold and hot meals, with an egg/waffle station as well.

For the price we paid, i have no complaints. It served its purpose well, however i would not recommend it for long stays. Short single nights should be fine.

In all honesty, they just need to give the hotel a fresh lick of paint, fix the small things and they'd be at the top of their game.

Honestly the only good thing about this “hotel” is the location - its 2 stars at best - wouldn’t even call a hotel… Its rundown, sooo many stains on carpets, ripped up carpet, doors don’t close and closets off hinges?? Bathrooms so gross I couldnt bring myself to shower… Also there are literally no outlets aside from under the TV and for a lamp which I had to unplug. This place is terrible - it seemed bed clean so slept for a few hours and flew out early next morning - hopefully others read this warning and avoid!!!

LET'S JUST CALL IT CHEAP & CHEERFUL. The first room they gave me absolutely reeked of mildew and cigarettes. There was absolutely no way I could stay in that room so they will kind enough to change me to another (non-smoking) room. This room smelled like citrus and melons. Rooms for very basic and quite small. Located in a good area close to the souq. Nothing to write home about but for a couple of days, it was pleasant enough when everything else in town was booked out. Housekeeping man Mohamedi from Tanzania was an absolute gentleman and a joy to be around!

Honestly I wasn’t impressed with the quality considering the price. I stayed at the Ramada which was significantly cheaper and had nicer utilities like a mini fridge. The water never seemed to get hot and the lighting was awful. The AC was very loud and the pillows were uncomfortable.

Good value, great staff, but needs refurbishing

Staff were great and accommodating, and the room had all I needed. However, it is showing its age with chipped tiles in the bathroom, old fittings, and probably hasn't been refurbished for very many years. Very convenient for Msheireb metro station for direct access to the airport.

Excellent stay but getting to and from hotel was challenging on foot.I would recommend not trying to walk from hotel until present roadworks are finished.We were there first week in February and roadworks were very challenging.
There are taxis to use.Also local metro is very cheap and efficient and well worth trying.

The hotels needs to be demolished and rebuilt it’s in a good position near the metro , over the road is all new and the souq is very close. The hotel is tired and dated for a mercure it’s probably one of the worst they own.

Worth the price

Old building in the middle of a construction zone.
That said the staff were friendly, room was clean, bed comfortable and breakfast was good. Whilst it is a challenge to walk to the souk it is very close so for the money paid this is a good value hotel. For the price would recommend it.

I stayed here during a layover on my way home, as I had a 20 hour wait. It was called ‘city centre’ hotel but I did not feel that it was close to anything. The hotel was in need of a refurbishment. Having stayed at the Mercure in Bangkok a couple of weeks before, I opted for a Mercure as I had a pleasant stay, however my expectations were let down with this hotel. The hotel was dated and I felt that the corridors and rooms were dark and did not smell very nice. The room was in need of modernisation. The shower was fine and the bed was comfortable. The receptionist who checked me in was polite but I did not experience the same customer service as that of Bangkok. The pool was small but there were plenty of sun loungers. The overall stay was fine but I would have expected more from a 4 star hotel.

Cheap Mercure but not cheerful.

This Mercure was way below the standard of any Mercure hotel we have stayed in.
It really needs an update. Our sheets had holes and the mattress protector was really stained and needed to be throw out. Spider webs in the bathroom. The list goes on and on. There was a huge amount of building works in the area as well which made it feel unpleasant. Breakfast was really good with s very wide variety of food. The staff were fantastic and extremely helpful.

Old hotel but clean. Staff were great and accommodating. Good location as it’s only a couple of blocks from the souk. Can get really hot walking out so bring a hat or an umbrella if you’re walking in the day. Be wary of some of the guests though esp if you’re a solo female traveler. One of the guests tried to lure me into his room 😳

Pleasant stopover stay.

The room - nothing fancy for a 4 star hotel. Comfortable and has hot shower. The robe was a nice touch too. Towels were soft and nice. It has a/c so worked out okay. My room was on the 7th floor with balcony facing the swimming pool view and constructions view on the left hand side. Sri Lankan airline had their cabin crew stayed in the hotel too.

The service - kudos to the airport shuttle service. On arrival, the chaffuer kindly waited for 1.30hours due to the long queue at the passprt control. The check in service was swift and they even offered a warm towel just like in the airplane. I asked for an iron and was promptly delivered to my room. Brrakfast was delicious too with really friendly staff.

The area - theres a lot of construction going on in the area however it is only a short walking distance to souq waqif.

City Centre Hotel Doha

whilst the hotel is a little tired and the area where it is situated is undergoing a massive redevelopment it is ideally situated for the famous Souk and the sea. The staff are so polite and professional, the bed very comfy, the food offering great and an excellent wine list at very reasonable rates. I used the hotel driver for the week when I was there and he is excellent.

Great location

There is a lot of construction in the area, but then again it's all over Doha so I don't think it matters much where you stay. The great thing about this hotel is that it's a short walk to the Souq Waqif so there are plenty of places to eat. The hotel only serves buffets, which is not my favorite and it's a bit overpriced. So eat elsewhere but stay here! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large, clean, comfortable, and safe. It may need some updates, but I don't want to pay for updating a perfectly good room. It suited me just fine.

Pleasant hotel close to the Souq Waqif

When I landed in Doha, I had a bit of difficulty in locating the hotel. Anyway once I found the hotel, I was impressed. Friendly and welcoming staff but not overbearing which is important. They knew how to strike the balance between being welcome but allowing guests personal space which is how it should be. Reception was based on the 2nd floor with a highly efficient workforce who took care of every detail of mystay. They also has fresh apple and orange juice next to reception for guests. This was the perfect way to start the and end the day. they also had free toffee sweets which were an added bonus and one which I took more than my fair share of. ( sorry ).

The hotel had three, yes three restaurants. they served a breakfast buffet on the ground floor which was 65 qar. Lunch and dinner were charged at 95qar each but to be honest if you chose to have the breakfast buffet, that would pretty much set you up for the whole day.

Room was large and wifi connection fairly good. Room service was provided but could benefit from a revamp with more options. Wash facilities top notch but they should provide decent quantities of shower gel and shampoo instead of the tubes they provide which were extremely small.

the city centre is about 5 miles away but is close to the souq waqif so dining options aplenty. Nightclub could do with a revamp so that its up to the standard of other popular places such as Fahrenheit at the horizon manor hotel.

Money well spent on quality accommodation.

More than Meets the Eye

Staying at the Mercure was one of the reasons we enjoyed our trip to Qatar. First impressions can be misleading. The building is let's say a little dated -clearly it was the future once but has been down graded from its previous status as a Sofitel. It's right next to a major construction site - an interchange on the new metro is being built on its doorstep. But several things made us feel very fond of place
1. The staff - without exception excellent. Helpful, attentive yet never intrusive or overbearing. We were given an upgrade to a 'Privilege' room and when we quibbled with it, we were moved to a larger room of the same standard with no fuss whatsover. The restaurant service was great, the porter and concierge always welcoming and the reception staff sorted out our trip to the desert. The staff really make the place.
2 . The swimming pool - the temperature in the outdoor pool is bracing but it was never busy and open to 8pm
3. The location - just a short walk to the superb Souq Waqif with its excellent restaurants and shops, not far - i.e. Just walkable in the heat - from the MIA and the Corniche

The restaurant has a good wine selection, there is a minibar in the room but we didn't go in to the bar with our young child so can't review that
When the metro is complete the location will be unbeatable -and construction noise even now is not enough to disturb sleep. Just the dawn call to prayer...recommended!

A quick visit

Hotel conveniently situated for the Souk Waquif, Sheiks Palace, Corniche and MIA possible to walk if you are used to the heat but a quick and inexpensive trip by taxi if not. It is currently situated in an area that is being redeveloped but can say that construction noise was minimal and certainly heard none from my room which overlooked the sites. Visit took place during Ramadan and the staff were very helpful and considerate to all faiths. A good range of food on offer for breakfast with staff very polite and eager to please. A nice pool area. A good clean room with TV, Tea and coffee making capability, mini refrigerator and effective air con.

The hotel is in the middle of a building site. Noisy, dusty and dangerous when walking out the front door. Advertised \"water views\" from balcony had been built out, and swimming pool was unusable because of construction beside it. Staff were wonderful.

Terrible Service

A hotel was booked for 19 nights, prepayment was taken from Hotels.com.
Upon arrival from UK, employee was told nothing was booked. Staff were rude and unhelpful.Employee then was made to pay for hotel for one night stay.
The next day we moved employee to Radisson for the remaining 18 night.
We will never use this hotel again. No apology or help offered.

A lot of construction going on around the hotel which made getting in and out of the hotel parking very difficult. The hotel was not bad for the value of money. Though the rooms had a balcony but it was not very pleasant due to the construction. The staff were kind enough to extend our stay until 3pm as our flight was at 7.30pm.

The hotel is very nice but in front of the hotel is giant massive construction, I stayed there for 2 nights every nights at 2 am some people still working and drilling, very disturbing.
Hotel is very clean, staffs very nice, swimming pools the water is really cold can't swim with that water. and I got free transfer from airport to the hotel both ways was really nice. to go to city center bit far away from the hotel, but when the massive construction finish the hotel has very nice location, I will be back staying at this hotel again for sure.

It is near to famous museum of Islamic art , souq waqif and Doha port.
But now surrounding area is under construction everywhere. (Huge town is under re-construction)
The road is closed due to construction.
No near good restaurant.
Illegal-looking taxis (without taxi mark with higher fare)
But the hotel itself is not bad.
(For taxi driver tell 'sofitel' instead of Mercure they don't know

The building is a bit dated, but the rooms were neat and clean. The pool was open but cold. The Jacuzzi was closed, as apparently was the sauna, and the exercise facility was meager. Staff was very helpful and cooperative, but the cleaning staff seemed unable to restock the room correctly. There is construction on two sides, which can make things noisy, but that is not Mercure's fault.

Hotel is totally surrounded by building sites (who work night shifts!). Rooms were dated and overall gave the impression the building is the next to be demolished. There are so many nice hotels in Doha so definitely won't be staying here again. I have to mention though, the staff were lovely; friendly and helpful.

Relatively good standard

This is a hotel that has a relatively good standard. Certainly good for the price (for which I got it at least). Clean rooms, professional staff, the usual services you would expect. It is not a 5star deluxe, but it is also not the cost of one. I had no complaints about anything and every part of equipment was working and service was fast and pleasant. The immediate environment of the hotel is a bit less pleasing, with a labor-type area. But it is not far from airport and not far from the key locations on that side of the lagoon. I would go there again.

The front end (office) managerin the evening shift was ectremely rude. she was not helpful and impossible to work with. she actually raised her voice to me so i asked for a manager. the manager fixed the problem quickly. all tbe other staff agreed that the female Philippina night manager ahould not deal with customers. i hope they move her in to a less visable position.

Great stopover!

Whilst the hotel is certainly not 4/5 star, it is a very pleasant place to stay. We stayed 2 nights and the room and facilities were more than adequate for our needs. I have never seen such good staff - they were amazing, from the room cleaners to the front desk. Definitely 5 star staff! Cost was excellent. Normally we never order room service, but Very cheap and delicious. Will definitely stay again next time we pass through Doha. Hats off to the wonderful staff. Would rate hotel 3 1/2 star.

nice location (but crowded), good value for money

We had one incident, a stupid taxi driver was blocking the way to the door. we couldn't park until he decided to leave. We complaint to the hotel but they did nothing, not even satisfying us with an upgrade or free breakfast. That was a bad way to deal with a complaint.

Other than that they were helpful, and we enjoyed the rest of the stay. if you don't want to spend a lot of many, and you want a place to sleep and park your car, its a good choice.

The only restaurant during the day closes down between 10:30 am and noon the change from breakfast to lunch buffet. If you don't make it to breakfast by 10:30 am, you have to wait until noon or order from a very limited room service menu.

The bar does not open until 5pm...I ordered two \"cold\" beers from room service only to receive near room temperature beer.

Everything was fine, except for the construction next to the hotel. I would still stay again, just make sure you get a room away from the construction and noise. Love the Bar upstairs

Terrible hotel, not worth the money.

We booked a room for two adult and a child. The beds were tiny single beds, and the extra bed for the child was a set of wires covered with cloth. The hotel carpet smelled horrible, the room was worst. The bathroom sink was clogged, and the towels had a horrible smell. The hotel is located in a bad neighborhood. The breakfast buffet was certainly minimal for the charge. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL FOR THE PRICE.

Mercure Building Sire

Mercure Grand Doha is in the centre of a massive building site. In every direction the views are of cranes and building work or of a scruffy area waiting for redevelopment. Doha consists of 2 areas, the new very wealthy area on one side of the Corniche and the other, the old city centre, a run down area in the middle of a massive regeneration area where many buildings and 'slums' are being demolished and rebuilt. Mercure is in the centre of the latter surrounded by dirt, dust, building noise and road disruption. The swimming pool was empty and its terrace full of stacked chairs and tables and totally unusable. The hotel staff were wonderful and did their best to make our stay as good as possible. The hotel itself is in the middle of a refurbishment and the top floors (10 and up) have been done but the rooms on the lower floors were very tired, sad and neglected. The buffet style food was well presented and very good with plenty of choice. The public areas are lovely, but not arranged for relaxation.

Dangerous area

I would never stay here again the sourrounding area is very dangerous with shops being demolished to make way for new buildings, was kept awake at night by building work that work 24 hours

Okay hotel for a short stay

Hotel was okay but a distance from the main areas of Doha - City centre may be a historically correct description as a location but not really valid anymore.
Major construction going on in front of the hotel but that is true of much of Doha and sound proofing of rooms was very good

Old School

Location was ok, not too far from the Bazaar (10 min walk), which is a bunch of café’s, restaurant and souvenir shops. The Hotel is kind of old school and located in the old city. The surrounding wasn’t that nice, nothing fancy (very dusty because of the new construction project that is gong on in the area). In terms of price, you pay what you get for.

Ideal central location

The staff are friendly and helpful and all requests were dealt with quickly and efficiently.
The rooms are comfortable with an efficient room cleaning service.
The only downside was the noise from the adjacent building site which was also my unpleasant view from my room.
Overall it is worth staying here.

Souk Wakif nearby with cafes and restaurants

Hotel condition is a little tired, and location a bit run down. Swimming pool too cold to swim in, even for someone from Northern Europe. This was a disapointment, because it was a major reason for choosing hotel. Best feature is that it is only 10 minutes brisk walk from Souk Wakif which has pleasant street restaurants and cafes for people watching. The walk to the souk is a bit noisy and shabby but worth it.

Nice hotel

The hotel has a 24 hour representative in the airport, which was quite convenient for the hotel shuttle service. The shuttle driver did not help guests with their luggage. An old couple had to struggle with their bags.
The other hotel staff, however, are very helpful.
The location of the hotel is convenient, close to the Souk, Islamic Art Centre and the water front, but it is also in the not-so-diserable part of town.
The hotel room was fair size and clean.

Not a Business Hotel

We requested non-smoking rooms but upon check in the hotel said construction was being done on that floor. After looking at multiple rooms I decided I found one that was not as bad as the others. Plus I was exhausted after 20 hours of flying. The smoke stench was very sickening but the construction was the worse part. Every morning the drills and other power tools would shake the entire room until I couldn't take it anymore. If the construction within the hotel was not bad enough then you would be woken up throughout the night from the 100 acre construction site adjacent to the hotel. The hotel is very dirty and old. But I will say that the staff tried very hard to make all guests comfortable. They were just at a huge disadvantage because the actual building was full of dust and smoke.
