We had an excellent stay at Pondok Sebatu. We stayed with our teenager in the 2 bedroom villa with private pool, which was very affordable in $AU.

The location is idyllic if you are looking for a less touristy, more authentic experience of Balinese traditional life. We were nestled in the hills in Central Bali, surrounded by small properties with rice fields. We saw local wood carvers and artisans selling items from their homes and shops.

The facility is very pleasant with warm, responsive and kind staff who can quickly arrange anything from a day tour of Ubud to an airport taxi to laundry, a massage or room service via a quick whatsapp request.

Local drivers, spa staff, cooks and concierges are employed and there is a real sense of community building at the Villa.

I highly recommend this villa to anyone with a genuine interest in combining learning about other cultures with being “spoiled” with much needed relaxation, in beautiful surroundings.

This property was really good and safe staff were very nice and also good area to go walking around the village to see how the people really are…. The only thing was the bed was uncomfortable but other than that it was great.

A Jewel to be Discovered

I was in awe of nature's lush green curtain comprising verdant rice terraces, palms, and tropical trees. This is the backdrop to Pondok's individual contemporary 'Joglu' rooms. It is a dizzying beauty that transfixes one's gaze. From the pictures it looked a wonder. For real it is transcendent. Perfect for a retreat. Perfect for rest and relaxation. Perfect to ponder in. And Perfect to wander in. The location requires one to be steady on foot, and reasonably fit. Otherwise one has all to be nourished by the environment. Pak Denik, the Manager was particularly welcoming, and the Front of House staff, Misses Yogi. The views are restful and remain in mind.

Nice valley view but deem swimming pool at night.

The valley view was amazing. The room is clean, and bed is comfy.
The location is 30~40 mins from ubud city centre, but it gave a peaceful and quiet vibes, away from the big crowd.
The villa provides free shuttle to ubud city centre (departure 10am and pick up 3pm) daily, or you can rent a motorbike to ubud city centre if you wish.
The only downside was the swimming pool at night. The lights were insufficient so it looked dim overall. Not a good idea to swim after dark when you couldn't see what inside the pool at night.

Very friendly staff, reception extremely helpful. Beautiful location and very quiet. Excellent food and very attentive service. Unfortunately the bedding smelled a bit musty and the internet obviously limits the data volume. But we'll be back!

Nice hotel with excellent service. Room was nice, ample and comfortable with a great view to the rice fields. Hotel restaurant was great, all the food was of excellent quality and tasty, service was great. The Spa was perfect we got several Balinese massages which were perfect after a long day of walking. Hotel also arranges tours and transportation with local drivers, all of them were excellent, knowledgeable, friendly with great cars.

Needs maintenance

It is a nice hotel with friendly staff. However, the villa smelled badly of mold and there were signs of bold on the net around the bed. They need new bed sheets and towels as they are full of stains and holes.

Don't trust the photos

Wrong pictures for the room type. Staff were helpful at the hotel - E'dia NOT so. Failed to adequately follow through. First time that we have experienced this. First world problems but not remotely satisfied with the service. Left hundreds out of pocket and wishing that we booked elsewhere.

Truly a beautiful place for a get away in Bali. If you like to be away from the bustle of the city & touristy crowds this is the place to unwind. The room had a traditional Balinese vibe to it with a beautiful view. They also had a pool, restaurant with free breakfast, yoga class, morning walking tours around the area & shuttle bus services. The place is a bit away from the city which you will need transport to get to but otherwise it is a great stay.

Charming, quiet resort with Wonderful staff

Stayed here for 5 nights and wishing we could have stayed longer.
Right from the time we checked in, to when we left, the staff were so friendly and helpful. Although outside Ubud, their shuttle is efficient and included in the price. Location is is in the quiet countryside among rice paddies. We took bikes from the resort several times and biked through the area.
Rooms are well appointed, and most equipped with a plunge pool. Restaurant serves great food at reasonable prices, and other services like laundry also readonably priced.
Definitely a great option if you're looking for the authentic Balinese experience.

tucked in a quaint lil village , pondok Sebatu is a great escape from the polluted Ubud Central. Staff Yogi and Wid work with pride and respect; every meal from breakfast to dinner was cooked and presented beautifully-only a chef from 5* hotel can deliver this standard. excellent resort!

Our stay was wonderful in Pondok Sebatu Villa with rice field and quiet neighborhood around. The wifi is alright and the Indonesian breakfast was good as well. The Villa is small yet quiet and beautiful, which is very good for relax in a forest area.

Beautiful Villa but far away from everything

My family and I had a great 7 days stay at the Villa. It's surrounded by beautiful rice paddies and bushes just like photos posted on the website. Staff were very nice, always smiling, patient , fast to respond when we needed help, a fantastic experience in general, except for a few issues needed to be mentioned.
We booked a two bedroom Villa two months in advance,but when we checked in, we were allocated two single bedroom Villa with separate entrances. We are surprised to learn that the two bedroom Villa we booked was given to another couple. It was 10 PM , and after a long and tired dispute with the front desk and over the phone with the manager, we had to settle with moving back to our Villa next day, with a day tour and massage as compensation, with lack of explanation and an apology.
Daily room cleanings were generally good but there was no unified standard applied; soap and toothpaste weren't replaced daily even when insufficient (had to be requested), and bins weren't emptied daily even when full (had to be requested).Used towel weren't always change . On the last day, though we left early before our use of the room was up, they did not even bother to change the towels as they thought it wasn't necessary, even after we had paid for a whole day's fee.we had to use the same towels which had been used the previous night .
Hot water faulted twice over the duration of our stay. In one instance, the hot water stopped in the middle of showering.

Tranquility in rice fields

The villa was a bit difficult to find but once there it was like heaven after the business of Ubub and Kuta. The pools are beautiful. We had a look at the upper 'family' villas with frog pool. All I can say is 'wow'. The staff let us swim there one day as nobody was staying there. It was great. We stayed in the villas with no pool except the general one. It too was lovely and the proximity to the pool and restaurant was great. There were three shuttles into town and back per day with the he trip one way lasting about one hour. The drop off/on spot was very central and easy to access. The food at the hotel was great. We had wonderful ala carte breakfasts and dinners were well priced and tasty. Try the chicken tutu or the beef rengang. The surroundings are very agrarian and it was quite lovely walking amid the rice patties. We stayed 4 nights and were sad to leave.

Wonderful 2 bedrooms villa -private infinity pools

We loved everything, the villas, private infinity pools were so great (my boys love to swim in it), view of rice terrace and coconuts trees were so beautiful. the staff were wonderful and helpful, we met the lady owner ( who is nice). we went to visit rice farmers when harvesting time and we went for neighbourhood walk with guide provided by the hotel (free), it was great experience. It is a quite, peaceful place far from busy Ubud, 35 minutes from Ubud, shuttle car was provided by Pondok Sebatu Villa. The only things I find not so good, the food (fried rice/noodles, a bit too salty) and flies at the restaurants (the staff said it was because of the rain and fruit season, they had candles to keep the flies away).

Beautiful Villa with amazing view!!!

We spent 6 nights at Sebatu, and our stay from start to finish was nothing short of amazing. Staff from front of house and housekeeping) were attentive, friendly and were always willing to go the extra mile to enhance our stay. Especially Widi, who made sure we saw the best of Bali and ensured we had an authentic Balinese experience. He also made sure take us to places to get halal food during all of our outings. The afternoon tea offered by hotel was amazing and reflects the culture of Bali. We truly felt like part of their family by the time we left and we look forward to a return trip in the near future.

Family of 5 looking for a Ball experience different to the hussle of Kuta. Rustic intimate resort about 20 minutes outside Ubud (free shuttle 3x /day). Surrounded by rice fields. Peaceful & beautiful. The 3 bedroom villa consisted of 2 joined and one stand alone villa in a private area with central infinity pool (the photo on web page). Amazing views. Large balconies. Outside bathrooms are delightful. Would be fantastic for 3x couples. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Small resort with international guests.

Wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Pondok Sebatu Villa! The staff was lovely, the views stunning and the villa was just as shown in the pictures. It is a bit far from Ubud (20 min) but if you are looking for a quiet getaway this is perfect. We rented a scooter for $10/day directly from the villa and were able to go into town easily that way. The food at the villa was also delicious. Would definitely stay here again in the future!

Wonderful place. 15 minutes drive from Ubud but the Hotel offers a shuttle plenty of times per day to take you and pick you up from free.
We borrow bikes and went to Tegallalang riding. Great experience but 2 km to go and 2 km to come back.
Beautiful view from the rice fields.
The private villas with pool are fantastic!!! I would recommend the 101 room, we stayed there.
Marvelous stuff so HELPFUL all the time!

The Best Holiday Ever, Worth Value of Money

When we arrived at the Villa, we were surprised that the management generously upgraded our villa to the family villa with a private pool.

I woke up in the morning, I can see amazing panorama from the balcony beautiful green rice field, fruit trees, nice garden and a big nice clean pool. I feel I was connected to the nature. I can breath fresh air, zero pollution, friendly environment and quiet place. I think it was the concept from Pondok Sebatu.

Ms Nuri and Mr Wayan was the best chef in Ubud. My son said the food was 5 stars. We don't need to go outside looking for lunch and dinner where we can find a better food, testier and the same price in Pondok Sebatu.

Mr Widi was the best tour guide, creative and friendly. He doesn't waste our time during staying in Ubud. He showed us some beautiful places, adventures and relaxing. I can't wait to go the next adventures with him.

However, you can have exercise walking around the rice field, village and Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple nearby.

The staffs (Anik, Citra, Kadek, Dirga, Putu and Astara) were great, to keep our room and the pool clean. Their service was excellent, thanks guys.

The owners (Mr Made and Mrs Ninik) were friendly. This was the first time I saw in Bali that the owners were working together with their staff to maintain the quality.

In conclusion, we were very happy and satisfaction staying in Pondok Sebatu.

Many inspect and animal nearby. Have the animal jump into my room swimming pool. Around the hotel,there is many lazard. At night, there will be many sound outside the room. It maybe is animal. No hot water for shower. Breakfast is not good. Not worth this price.

喧騒を離れのんびりしたい方に

良い点: センスの好いインテリアに囲まれ、日常を忘れる滞在ができました。部屋から眺めるライステラスも素晴らしかったです。周辺には何もありませんが、ホテルのレストランで良い食事ができます。スタッフも皆さん素朴で笑顔ありました。
悪い点:部屋がカビ臭かったこと

一月の滞在でしたが、思ったより涼しく、体調を壊す者もいました。小さな子供連れには、プライベートプールも危ないばかりでオススメできませんが、大人だけなら素晴らしい設備と環境だと思います。
街まで車で40分かかりますが、素朴な風景が見られ、良いドライブになると思います。
ホテル内石段所々にあり、雨もよく降るので滑ります。
脚の弱い方は気をつけて下さい。

Upella paikalla riisipeltojen keskellä, ihana ja ystävällinen palvelu sekä erittäin kotoisa tunnelma. Oma villamme oli todella söpö ja kivasti sisustettu, jossa oma rauha. Sijainti hieman syrjässä kauempana ubudin keskustasta, mutta hotelli järjesti hyvin kyydit lähialueille.
