The hotel is older and has some water damage very apparent around the window in our room including cracks in the brickwork. The staff was very nice. The views were beautiful, the elevators were old and slow, it was hard to even see the numbers on the buttons as they were so worn out. For a one-night stay it was fine, it was clean and comfortable.

My stay was OK. The front desk staff was not welcoming at all. I felt like walking out. The hotel needed lots of updating. Breakfast and access to the beach was on the 2nd floor, which was different. I would not go back.

The cleaner was listening at our door the morning of checkout. It was 9 am, and checkout isn't until 11. The room wasnt vacumed the previous guest's hair tie was in the middle of the floor. The oceanfront room windows were disgusting. The bed was comfortable, bars in the shower for safety, and the views were phenomenal.

Staff was excellent! Very friendly and helpful in letting me check in early. Wonderful view of the ocean and beach which was important to me as I was hoping to find sea and shorebirds, which I did! I also got amazing views of the SpaceX Falcon 12 launch!! The room was clean and the bed suuuuuper comfy, giving me the best night's sleep in weeks and by far the best hotel sleep I've had in a very long time. They also have a hotel kitty named Boots who provided 5-star head bonks and scritch opportunities! Lol The only reason this is a 4* and not 5* review is my tub wouldn't drain after my shower. Staff was alerted the morning of checkout (I only stayed overnight) and said they would fix it. I will for sure stay there again.

The staff was excellent, and the setting is wonderful, but the building is in need of complete renovation. There was a loose outlet hanging out of the wall behind the bed. The tub/shower only worked on shower, and poorly. The elevators worked very slowly. The furnishings were worn and the walls were chipped.

Beach view was ok but the widows were hard to see out of, only 1 elevator in working condition, and the overall building was run down, including the breakfast area with broken serving items. Short staffed but the manager who was doubling as the front desk check in was a delight! So friendly and patient and vent though she was the only one working checking us in, answering phones and listening to other less than patient patrons. She was the best and most caring and friendly! She gets a 10 out of 10

I was disappointed with the hotel: (1) One of the elevators did not work the entire time, the coffee machine at breakfast was broken, (3) the coffee machine at the lobby was broken, (4) pillows were hard, (5) sheets were stained and old, (6) carpets should have been changed years ago, (7) the room's windows were so dirty you can barely see the view...only saving grace: the staff is really kind!

The ocean view was beautiful. Smoker below consumed a great deal of marijuana on the first night so we could not open the balcony door.

Needs to be Updated

The hotel location close to the main drag and to the beach was ideal which is why we chose to stay here. However, the building is tired and in need of a refresh. The bed was lumpy, the bathroom faucet leaked, the shower rod had been installed improperly so the curtain kept sliding to the middle, and only one elevator was working.

We went to get away for our 50th wedding anniversary and found everything to be nice except the mattresses. They were very uncomfortable. Had a very big dip in the middle both of the beds. I had to sleep sideways for my back to not hurt. I would stay again but make sure we had a different bed.

Stay somewhere else on the OBX

I was thoroughly disappointed with my week-long stay. For the $1,700 I spent, I expected far better. Instead, I dealt with a broken elevator the entire time, creating congestion and long waits at every floor. The lobby reeked of a wet dog smell that hit you immediately upon entry, which set a poor tone from the start.

Mornings were anything but restful thanks to the cleaning crew shouting back and forth down the hallways. To top it off, I found a bug in my bed (thankfully not a bed bug, but unacceptable all the same). The outlets in the room were also loose, making it difficult and unsafe to charge devices — another clear sign of poor maintenance.

While the registration staff and breakfast were pleasant, they were the only positives. The rest of the property looked neglected. At the pool, I noticed the balconies across the way with cracked foundations and obvious structural deterioration. My room’s windows were so filthy you could barely see out, and not from saltwater residue — just lack of upkeep.

Overall, this hotel is nowhere near worth the $1,700 price tag. Between the broken facilities, poor cleanliness, safety hazards, and general state of disrepair, this stay was a major disappointment. Do yourself a favor — spend your money elsewhere.

Super convenient for our fishing trip however the property has fallen on some rough times.

I’ve stayed there maybe 6-7 times in past 20 years and feel now maintenance has been deferred for far too long. The door looked as though it had been opened with a crowbar, light switch in bathroom threw sparks, shower control fixture falling off wall, drains slow draining, rust. Pool needs serious professional maintenance help. Reinvest in your property or it will be gone before you know. Breakfast was mostly inedible. Owners and managers, you folks know you are serving up a substandard product as a hotel. Line level employees were fine, trying hard to deal with conditions.

I’ll look elsewhere close by when I come back next month.

My advice—avoid this hotel for now. Better options abound. I hope ownership will take this review as a call to action.

Let down and disappointed

My family and I have been coming here for many years as an annual trip to the outer Banks. Unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience this time. Last several times we have stayed only one elevator shaft has functioned. The elevator is very slow. Upon check-in I was asked if I would like them to clean my room daily. I stated yes however they did not clean my room for the entirety of my stay. Upon booking the room I chose an oceanfront room with two queen sized beds, unfortunately I did not get an oceanfront room. In the beds were two double beds. But being exhausted from sitting in traffic for about 5 and 1/2 hours I did not complain and I was just happy to get a bed. We had one unexpected visitor in the room, a cockroach. Staff is very friendly and inviting. However the facility itself needs some major changes.

The room was nice however the balcony in need of paint and nicer chairs. The location is off the charts amazing, which made the poor maintenance of the property and grounds so sad. Staff was very standoffish. Lobby was overly perfumed and air freshened… which made us wonder why? Wont stay here again unless they do a renovation. It was pretty seedy.

The Hotel has only one elevator working; you have to wait over 15minutes. The hotel is old, and there was blood on one of the pillows. The shower carton was not closed properly, which resulted in water all over the bathroom. I was planning to cancel the stay, but the issue will end up costing me the money I paid for.

Love going to OBX every couple of months. This was a solid stay, but Expedia needs to update their room options and pictures. I had the impression I was getting an oceanfront room with a balcony, but didn’t. The property said I couldn’t exchange, that I’d have to cancel and get another room. But this wasn’t until after check in when I found out.

We’ll start with the good- it’s in a great location with easy beach access.

That being said, hotel condition and cleanliness left a fair bit to be desired. Only one working elevator the five days we were there, lots of dingy carpet, broken trim pieces by doors, water issues that have been painted over, etc.

There were staff who were super helpful and kind (breakfast guy especially), but we also had extremely unhelpful and even snarky front desk staff who had confirmed on the phone that we had requested adjoining rooms for our family. I was told that rooms with those requests get assigned first, so they were confident they would be able to deal with the request even though it wasn’t guaranteed. Fast forward to our arrival, and they had given the adjoining room away already (even though we arrived just before check in time), and said we were stuck with whatever was left. That was pretty disappointing, but the cherry on top was the shoulder shrug, half smile that reeked of snarkiness as it was said “Oh well, what are you going to do? It’s not guaranteed…”.

Moving past that, other thoughts- A/C worked great in one room, but minimally in another. Breakfast was OK, and kept well stocked. Biggest other concern was the folks smoking on their balconies near the pool, and not always cigarettes…

So in the end, we had our beach trip. It was fun, but the hotel didn’t really add to our enjoyment basically at all. We were hoping for better than that based on prior reviews. Disappointing

Would not recommend, very dirty. Some staff do not want to be there and you can tell by the attitude. We had problems checking in and before we had all our stuff out of the rooms for check out staff was already in there cleaning things. Breakfast wasn’t great and things were just not clean, things were broken and not very well taken care of.
