A hidden gem! this feels like an unfolding love letter. the views of the mountains are fantastic & the nature surrounding our stay felt like a dream! the staff is incredibly attentive making you feel right at home. I am so pleased with the whole experience here. They offer activities on the spot & a menu for massages. The food is incredibly tasty. if you're looking for a place to stay this is the destination for you!

The upside
Views and birdlife were amazing
Room was ok decent bed and decent washroom

The downside
Property is not walkable at all. The steps are high, uneven, with stones sticking out and few places to hold while ascending and descending steep areas.
The only restaurant is down a steep descent. Since the property is in a remote area this is the only eating option.
Breakfast buffet was below average.
The property overall has a rundown look to it. The entrance road is in disrepair.

The resort staffs and the location were outstanding.Me and my family had an excellent time. I loved the herbal drink that was offered at the reception upon arrival. The view and the landscape was mind blowing and enjoyed walking around the resort and sitting around the campfire. Didn't get a chance to do hiking during this trip. Will try next time :)

Awesome place to stay

The location is phenomenal and views are nice. Very peaceful.

The food is lousy as its just north Indian mainly for dinner and I didn't come to kerala and not try local food. Was a very big let down.

A world-class hotel

This is an extraordinary place in all aspects. Our cottage had a great interior design with plenty of living space, was well maintained and felt luxurious. The towels were properly clean and the complimentary toiletries were ayurvedic premium products. Waking up to the sound of birds and having a coffee on a shaded balcony overlooking tall trees and the valley in the background was pure bliss. The staff were genuinely friendly. The gardens, views and birds were spectacular.

Nice hotel with great views of plantation

Staying at Blackberry was truly a treat. Room 401 was the best room with great views. We were then in early Feb and were able to experience morning mist and chirping birds. It is a small resort with a nice restaurant and great friendly staff. Bit of a walk to the rooms but scenery around makes it worth while.
Trek to the mountains is tedious so make sure you are in good shape. Over all great experience and was worth every penny.

Excellent hotel in magical setting.

Blackberry Hills is an excellent and relaxing hotel. The staff can’t do enough to make sure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The setting in Munnar is unbeatable on hillside overlooking tea plantation. Would certainly recommend to family and friends visiting the area.

Amazing setting, well appointed rooms, helpful staff, nature at your doorstep.
Need to be able to walk up and down as it is on a side of a mountain.
Access for large vehicles (e.g., vans) only available during daytime and road is not in the best shape.
Wifi available but for limited devices per room.

Tea Country Views

Blackberry Hills is tucked into hilly acres of tea plantations--views just gorgeous. The resort itself is built on a hill so that every activity is either up a steep hill or down one. There is no flat walking path. However, the native flowers and beautiful grounds make it perfectly satisfactory to sit on your deck or patio enjoying the scenery. The food was excellent. The staff was totally attentive, eager to make your stay enjoyable. A new \"resort\" is going in next door. It will not block the views, but while the construction is going on, there are signs of a construction sight. This is only temporary. Blackberry Hills: very relaxing.

What went well:
1. The resort was beautiful with spectacular views that was worth what I paid for
2. Would highly recommend the Hornbill restaturant. Service and food were great
3. Everyone seemed eager to help and make our stay an enjoyable one

What did not go so well:
1. WiFi was advertised, but never worked. So we were without any internet for a couple of days (cellphone internet is highly spotty here)
2. When we had to come back, we asked for a cab at 9 AM, but the cab did not show up until 10:30 AM, after much back and forth. This caused a lot of unnecessary stress which gave me a bad feeling after a great 2 day stay. Management needs to improve on this front. Or they need to have their own shuttles to the airport (or local areas). Currently they rely on local cabs for all this.
3. Great as a honeymoon destination. Not much to do for kids and families in the local area on in the resort.

Do not stay here

My main tip is not to go there. The reception staff were awful, very unhelpful and most hardly spoke a work of English which made getting anything done including paying £1 for a bottle of water very difficult.
The guide from the hotel was rude and uninterested.
The hotel is very difficult to get around as a result of the steep slopes.
Do yourself a favour and book somewhere else in the area

After leaving the noise and heat of the kerala coast, it was nice to get away to the cool mountains. the hotel was quiet and had beautiful views over the valley. the hotel was a place just to relax and enjoy the views which was what we were looking for for a night. the hotel is away from town so if you want to easily access town or walk someplace this is a little far, but you can order a taxi to take you in if needed. there is a restaurant on the premises, the food was good, not great. the rooms were fine, bed comfortable for india and the balcony was nice. wi fi was a little spotty. the walks are steep and although we thought we could walk down the hillside to the tea plantation, the trail just seems to stop at one point halfway down the hill. Mostly we just enjoyed the cooler weather, beautiful views and quiet. the staff was pleasant and helpful.

Lovely hotel, great food and friendly staff. Phenomenal scenery. However the hot water broke down one morning meaning we had to shower in a bucket of cold water, and the receptionist gave us completely wrong info about an excursion which half ruined one of the few days we were there. Room for improvement, but still worth a visit.

Felt like we could have stayed there forever

It felt like we were staying in heaven. I'm sure the exotic beauty of Munnar played a role in this feeling, but everything about the Blackberry Hills Retreat was perfect for the location--from the simple elegance of the lobby to the siting of all the buildings to maximize views to the way they've kept mature trees close to the buildings to the room itself. We had a comfortable suite with a great balcony, a large sitting room, and a perfect bedroom with very comfortable bed. Everything was spotlessly clean. The front desk staff were extremely helpful. The restaurant was excellent when serving off the menu, less so when serving a buffet.

Note: You need to be comfortable with walking up and downhill if you stay here.

Wonderful setting

Hotel in beautiful settling, but just lacked a bit of something, was nothing like web site pictures. Dining staff were attentive, but reception very slow. There were tea bags and cups in the room but only a flask of lukewarm water. We phone several times to request boiling water when we arrived after a long journey, and gave up in the end. The same thing happened the next day, several phone calls and no hot water, finally we trekked up the hill ( and believe me it is a trek) to complain, and had to wait 15 mins to finally get boiling water - ironic as we were sat in the middle of a huge tea plantation! -
Total lack of information about the place or the locality, no brochures or maps, only for the spa. Not as the website described with camp fires and barbecues. Don't let the couple on the website fool you, they are not drinking wine, as the hotel is not licensed, in fact a lot of small hotels in Kerala aren't.
Room ok, a bit lacking in style and felt/smelt very damp, but then you are in the clouds most of the time.

Beautiful scenery and setting

Blackberry Hills fulfilled our expectations perched on the side of a hill with magnificent scenery overlooking the tea plantations. The staff were friendly and helpful although there was slight confusion over the hotel taxi which we had ordered. (The hotel is at least 3 hours from the airport so be prepared for a long and windy journey, but its worth it).
The hotel could do with stocking some info on local walks. A simple map leaflet of the area would have been useful.
However walking was easy with beautiful flora and fresh air.

Nice resort up in the hills

We traveled as a family of 4 (two kids under 10) and stayed at Blackberry for two nights. Initially we missed the turn from the main road to the small bridge (didn't see the sign coming from Munnar town side) and had to turn around after 4 kms. Coming from the other side (Cochin), we could see the board before the turn and thereafter it was easy to reach the resort.

The USP of the place is their spa services and the way the rooms/cottages have been built on the hill side. They are a bit tedious to reach from the reception (downhill) and \"very\" tedious to return from (uphill), but we found that enjoyable in a way. The cottages themselves are very comfortable, spacious and well appointed. The views of the valley and farther hills from the balcony were lovely and it was amazing to see the fog 'ascending' from the valley below and slowly enveloping us.

Food and the restaurant staff deserve a special mention. The breakfast and dinner buffets had sufficient options (we didn't try lunch at the resort) and we found the food to be delicious and not too oily. The kids (usually very fussy) also ate well and the staff was very polite and unobtrusive, yet very helpful.

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable stay and highly recommend the place.

Spectacular views but not for older travellers.

Basic but quite comfortable room with lovely views over the tea plantations. The three hundred metre near vertical climb to the reception area, however, was beyond my ageing bones! Also problems with wi-fi (it was not available) made it impossible to undertake the research I had intended. The staff were very helpful and understanding when I had to change my booking and leave early.

Watch-out:
a) The walk inside the resort from reception to rooms / dinning area is indeed very steep - as mentioned on the resort website. Thus, certainly not recommended for anyone with knee problems.

Beautiful retreat with little to do

On arrival we were stunned by the views and beauty of the hotel communal areas. Our room was a very steep 200 metres from reception; not easily accessible to older/ less fit individuals. The restaurant is excellent and very reasonable. No alcohol is served. Our room was spacious and clean though had quite a musty smell. The spa in the hotel was very good.
As a young, active couple we wanted to stay in a place of beauty with lots of activities we could choose to do throughout the day. Unfortunately after looking through the activities list and calling recpetion to arrange a trek and bike ride over our 2 day stay, we were told this would not be possible as the 1 jeep which sits 4 people was already booked. After some miscommunication over the telephone I had to go to reception to explain my disappointment. Fortunatley the front desk manger was very helpful and explained that as the hotel is under-staffed and under-resourced activities were not always available to all guests. He did however very kindly arrange to take us for a trek and a bike ride to Top Station himself. The trek and bike ride were both well worth doing and really made the stay for us. Without these activities there is in fact very little to do. If you are looking to do absolutely nothing, take a couple of books and enjoy the serenity. If however you want to see some of the surrounding countryside and beautiful views of Munnar look for a hotel where opportunities come with more of a guarantee.

Absolutely beautiful view

The setting was beautiful and it was great to have a break from busy city life. Drive up from cochin took about 4 hours and very nice once out of urban area. Roads narrow and windy but speed slow so not too much of an issue. Well worth it to see the tea plantations. Not really a lot to do but very peaceful and had great massage at the hotel. Food was good, staff pleasant, room private and quiet with great view.

Not the best experience in Kerala

If one plans to do sight seeing, one is better off staying in the city rather than this 6-7 kms resort. The cottages are located in the hills and the path to and fro the reception is very steep and not conducive for walking multiple times in a day. The restaurant is very sub standard - limited menu and very bad cooking (even of dosas). The staff is courteous. However, even though, they can speak and understand english, the accent and broken sentences is difficult to understand for non Keralites.

The accommodation was spacious with a balcony overlooking a wonderful view. Our welcome was good, we were given a very interesting drink and the staff were pleasant and helpful.
However the standard of the decor and furnishings was poor, everything just looked tired and worn. The worst thing was the bathroom, very unattractive and not clean. We felt that it was vastly overpriced.
The service in the restaurant was good, the staff were welcoming and the food OK.

Stunning View, Welcoming, Comfortable Hotel

A gem of a boutique resort on the steep slopes just outside Munnar. Large, comfortable rooms, all facing one of the most magnificent views you could imagine. Generally clean and comfortable, with a bit of room for improvement: water pressure in shower is a little low, instant coffee weak and tasteless. Lovely restaurant serving ample breakfasts and generous buffet dinners opposite the same breath-taking view of tea-plantation valley. Nice spa if you venture the very steep path upstairs after a long day of hiking / touring... All-in-all, highly recommended!

Otroligt härligt ställe. Otrolig natur. Personalen supertrevliga. Gratis yoga före frukost. Mycket god mat på restaurangen med bra priser.
Receptionen väldigt hjälpsamma med olika bokningar. Trekking mm. Vaknade till fågelsång varje morgon. Många apor som lekte i träden på området! Ingen alkohol serverades vilket var skönt.

Perfect location, amazing view. Everybody was very friendly and helpful. Staff go out of their way to make sure the visitors have everything and are happy. We had to catch a taxi at 4am and they will get up for us and provide lunch packages. The restaurant is very nice, we enjoyed the food a lot. Also the treatments in the spa were very relaxing.
