We loved the ambience of this place. Driving in at night was whimsical with mushroom lights guiding the way. The room was artsy and fun. Breakfast was picture-worthy and the hosts were friendly and knowledgeable. This felt like a great starting point for our Costa Rica trip with a more authentic feel.

Beautiful and sparkling clean rooms set in a really wonderful piece of land. The photos don't do it justice!

My one complaint would be that we had heard so much about the wonderful breakfasts and were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the more extensive menu is exclusively offered to people stopping in for breakfast only. We would have happily paid to upgrade from our free breakfast!

It was our first time visiting Costa Rica. The stay at Lucky bug B&b was nothing short of awesome. It's run by Rob and Monica who were very welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast is prepared by Monica herself, and she could be the best cook in town!

The property itself is very serene, lots of birds chirping early in the morning. We truly enjoyed our stay in this little paradise.

I was met at the property by Rob, one of the two owners, who showed me to my room. The room was well-appointed and the bathroom was exquisitely decorated in tile and tasteful additions. Rob handed me soap wrapped in leaves from the land. He left as I settled in, but returned later to see if I would like an individual pizza as he and Monica were going out. He returned later with not only the hot and tasty pizza, but also bottle of wine to go with it.

This visit was also preceded by travel misfortune. Again, I had no WIFI, and I wasted an hour or two going around in circle in Grecia. Then, when I hit the "highway", I still had no WIFI, so some mis-turns led to a near empty gas tank again. I asked for help from a gentleman walking on the side of the road. The nearest gas station was too far for me to drive with almost no gas. So, this gentleman, Luis, led me to his house, called his friend Fernando to come over, get a gas can, and travel the distance to pick up two gallons of gas. As we waited for him to return, we shared pictures of our families, drank, Coke and ate some of those wonderful Costa Rican cookies. Just as we finished, Fernando came with the gas. He filled the tank, left, and I requested his and Luis' address.
I am so impressed with the all Costa Rican people I have met who go out of their ways to be friendly and helpful to me - a total stranger.
The hosts of the places I have stayed during this trip have been gracious, thoughtful, and wonderful!

Peaceful Retreat

Lucky Bug was a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The host greeted us warmly as he showed us to our room. The artistic touches in the room and on the grounds mirrored tactfully much of the external natural beauty of the place. The stars were beautiful upon our arrival (which may not be the norm) and the music of nature chorused loudly changing its tune to silence in the middle of the night to a new chorus of birds as the night progressed to day. The balcony of our room was a great place to sit and birdwatch while waiting for breakfast time. The food was fantastic and the view from the opposite side of the pond was also lovely. The service was warm and welcoming. We arrived by the road from La Fortuna after dark. There are no lines on the narrow serpentine road making it a bit of a stressful night drive. By day the same road had many lovely views.

An amazing place for nature lover !

We had a wonderful time at the Lucky Bug. Very clean , cozy, attention to details makes this B&B a place we would return any time. A beautiful tropical garden is surrounding . Rob was a great host available at any time and making sure we have everything we needed. Breakfast was very good, served on a terrace with an amazing view , lots of Hummingbirds and Iguana on the tree. We just loved everything !

Lovely unique property. Needs better lighting and needs to give better check in directions.
Most obvious place labeled “Lucky Bug” was dark and locked -turns out this was breakfast place/restaurant and souvenir shop. B and B was down the road and not well marked in the dark ( my flight was cancelled and I arrived later than planned, just at dark. I sent a message but got no response)
My room was advertised as “lake view” -turned out it was not Lake Arenal, but a pond on the property.
Owners/ staff were very nice, and assisted with luggage which was great since I had been up all night at airport.

Wonderful family stay in April

Our family of three (2 adults and one six year old) stayed at Lucky Bug B&B for one night in April on our way from LIR airport to La Fortuna to break up our travel day. We selected the B&B based on other reviews and we were so glad we did. Check-in was easy and quick; we were greeted by Monika, Rob, and their cats and dog (which my son loved!). We were able to park our car right next to the B&B, which is set back away from the main road and through a gate that is closed to those not staying at the B&B. We lucked out since we were the only ones staying that evening; it was very peaceful and the property is beautiful. It felt like a private oasis. We spent walking around looking at the flowers and plants and the pond on the property in the evening and again in the morning. It felt like we were far away from anyone and everything. Our stay in the sun-suite was perfect for us, as there was a big bed and then two other beds, a small kitchen, and living area to spread out. We enjoyed coffee in the room and on the patio in the morning before going to breakfast. In the morning, we had a fresh homemade breakfast with fruit, eggs, toast, and juice and coffee overlooking the pond and with hummingbirds flying nearby. A wonderful experience and we would stay here again, and recommend to anyone else in the area! :)

Lucky Bug was the highlight of my CR trip! A magical oasis in paradise. A favorite experience ever. I stayed in the Frog room overlooking the lake. The owner is an artist and has designed every piece with intention. My only regret is not staying longer. Thanks you Rob and Monica for welcoming me into your palace.

Amazing place to stay!

What an amazing place! The setting is absolutely gorgeous! The owners were so attentive and helpful and the breakfasts were the best we had our whole trip. We decided to eat at the restaurant the first night and our meals were so good that we ate there our second night as well. We used this place as our base to explore from and are really glad we did. Highly recommend the Lucky Bug!

Lucky Bug B&B was a gem of a place to stop for the night between La Fortuna and Monteverde. Property was gorgeous with hundreds of types of plants in the landscape surrounding their pond - felt like a jungle oasis. Charming room and comfy bed. Delicious breakfast and the best blackberry jam I've ever had. Thanks Rob and Monika!

The owners were exceptionally nice to deal with and they treated us like we were family. We felt like we were friends by the time we left.
They have quite a bit of acreage on the property and it backs to the surrounding forest.
Highly recommended for those people who do not want to stay in those big tourist hotels.

Great food!! Monica is from Germany and I have not had as good food since I lived in Germany. The hummingbird feeders are always full and busy with 4 to 5 different hummingbirds. There are other birds in the garden area.
Lots of frogs to listen too at night as well. Clean and friendly. I would stay here again anytime.

The facility is excellent, well maintained, and our room was quiet and nice. The included breakfast is freshly prepared, good and varies each day. The restaurant is not always open in the evening, depending upon how many guests or locals arrive at it fairly early that night.

Great place for your visit

This B&B is gorgeous. It is small (maybe 4 or 5 rooms) facility on beautiful gardened property. There is a small lake with a canoe you can use. The breakfast area is in the restaurant a small walk around the lake. The attached gift shop is realy more of an art shop with higher quality items than most places.

We used this B&B as the launch pad to visit Rio Celeste. (about an hour away over the mountain -- much on a relatively well mainatined gravel road) If we were to do it over, we would stay here much longer and also use it as a base to do the activities in the tourist area of MT Arenal and La Fortuna. -- THIS IS SO MUCH MORE LIKE THE RELAXING PLACE YOU GO TO COSTA RICA FOR

I didn't mention the swarms of hummingbirds having breakfast with you. Or, the Butterfly garden! and ...

Amazing place, surrounded by jungle, next to a small lake, wonderful hosts and great breakfasts. Always lots of birds to watch, monkeys and Coatis often in the area and a short little jungle walk with sighting poison dart frogs a possibility. Our new favorite place to visit in Costa Rica. Only slight complaint would be the beds could be a bit more comfortable.

We were greeted by the owners who we chatted with and then were shown to our room which is a separate building to where the owners live. We had the turtle room which was very charming and colorful with windows that opened onto the rainforest. Bathroom has a beautiful sea creature painted bowl and a shower. The grounds are incredible, there is even a small butterfly conservatory to walk into. There is a small lake which is surrounded by rainforest and flowering plants and was jaw droppingly beautiful. Above the lake there is the circular restaurant where we had a delicious breakfast each morning served by the owners. Sitting there over looking the many hummingbirds and other large birds feeding was such a sight 😊. Rob and Monica were very helpful in advising us of the area and distances to the various places. We went to the hanging bridges from there and Lake Arenal, ate at a local place for dinner called Moya’s Place. Felt very much at ease and at home with Lucky Bug and will definitely recommend to others and come back again 😁

Unique Hotel

This place is an amazing creation of a rain forest and garden landscape. Closer to the main road road is the restaurant for breakfast and lunch overlooking a small lake. The architecture and interior is unique and is completed by a gallery with local art work. My wife is a gardener and when she walked the grounds she was amazed about the different plants growing there (me not being interested in gardening and plants as much, have to trust her "Ohs" and "Ahh's" as she was mighty impressed.) There is even a small enclosure in the garden with all kinds of butterflies, where one can watch them close up and personal.
If you are looking for a peaceful place to clam down, disconnect from hustle and bustle and connect with nature this is the place to be. It is a magical place the hosts have created.
The breakfast was the best we had on all our tour. Brilliant presentation, nutritional balanced, and very tasty. The guesthouse is clean and simple but very nice and tasteful decorated. The hosts Monika and Rob are the real thing, very kind and gracious host concerned about their guests and a real pleasure to joke and laugh with.

Wonderful place to stay

The setting for the B & B is beautiful. The room was unique and comfortable for a family of 4. Breakfast was amazing. Each day was a different entree (best French toast ever one morning) accompanied by an array of fruit nicely plated. The hosts made suggestions about places to visit in the area and helped with making reservations.
