The Weather was horrible. Nothing but thick clouds and fog. Not the hotel’s fault but the experience was ruined. If you are going to Arenal check the weather forecast closely.

Always a pleasure staying here. The view when it's not foggy is awesome. Please don't hold the hotel responsible if you don't get to see the view. It's the weather. The rooms are gorgeous. I've stayed here half a dozen times and love it. The people are always wonderful The only negative that I have is the breakfast seems to have gone downhill. Which was a shame because it used to be delicious. The ride from the entrance gate to the actual reception is up a very long steep dark windy hairpin road. But I love that it's part of the adventure. Going up when it's dark could be a little scary but again part of the adventure that I love which is why I keep going back.

Horrible experience, no power, no safety and no staff.no phone in the rooms. Trapped in the room with no power, no phone to call anyone. Also Rooms and bathroom don’t even look anything like the picture posted on Expedia. Never ever recommend this place to anyone. Not even my worst enemy.

Great place. Highly recommend one of the cabin on the hill. The view of the volcano is breathtaking and being able to see it from your room’s window is priceless. Also, the place is kept very clean and the restaurant serves very good food at affordable prices. Overall it was a very good experience

We abandoned our first (prepaid) stay at another location to get closer to the action in La Fortuna.
Mentioning this to the front desk, they said “we are not fancy”. To us, this was so special.
At the gate at the bottom of the mountain, an attendant lets you in (with confirmation of reservation). The road is high and steep and takes about 6 minutes to climb. A four wheel drive vehicle is recommended. As a result of this location, we felt VERY safe here. We didn’t even use the actual safe.
Our room was older, but absolutely tidy.
The AC worked great and the shower was hot (not so at other locations we stayed). The hot tubs were lovely; could have been hotter, but the grounds were so pretty.
Provided breakfast was perfect. Dinner was fine, but not a highlight. Given the steep
hill, you are kind of stuck after dark. Thankfully a pool table and nice fellow guests kept us entertained.
This was an uber memorable experience for us and a special place for our family. Our teenage son will look back at this spot fondly.

My family and I stayed for 3 nights in one of the chalets recently and enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful and the view from the chalet and the pool area was stunning. The hotel is about 20-30 mins outside of La Fortuna so a bit inconvenient if you don’t have a car rental as there are no restaurants around except for at the hotel (which was okay). The views and the grounds made up for this inconvenience. Front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly. I would consider returning.

Not safe to drive inside the hotel. It takes 2km from security to Reception. Dangerous road. From reception to rooms also roads are steep with no warning signs of dangerous ditches.

This hotel in on a mountain 2 km uphill on a paved but old road, although I saw sedans I don’t know how they made it. We were glad we rented a 4x4 that’s what I recommend. Also try to get there before dark due to the steep uphill super curvy 2 km road.
Although hotel is old (probably oldest in the area) it’s very clean , rooms are big and comfortable. It’s on a beautiful mountain with great views . The horse riding on site is a most! Decent breakfast, friendly staff. Definitely recommend if you’re into rustic stays and nature.

The hotel has really good view of the volcano and the room are spacious and comfortable. Also the swimming pool and hot tub were great. It also has a small gym, which is bonus, but which would benefit from an update. Service, at front desk and restaurant were very nice and attentive. However: 1- The wifi at the room did not work at all. 2- windows were not fully covered and therefore sunlight will came in very early and disrupt your sleep (if we need to sleep in). 3. No fridge in the room. 4- Breakfast was more like a snack than an actual breakfast. 5- If you need ice or hot water you need to get it from the restaurant, which closes at 9am.

The place truly grows on you. While the property is a bit dated, the people more than make up for it with their warmth and helpfulness. We stayed in a chalet overlooking the volcano, and on a clear day the view was simply enviable. Driving from the gate to the actual building should clearly be marked with some type of nigh devices so cars coming in-out at night can see clearly. There is a season where the aprox 2km from the gate to the building is heavily foggy and very dark.

I was insid a room for 2 night water was all over the bed and floor, and bed was wet. After 2 night i was sleep to that kind a room they chang my room last night to another room. Our stay at the lodge was wonderful! It’s an older property with lots of charm. Views are beautiful! Room was large and we loved time on the balcony in the hanging chair. Board games and chess and checkers for some good family time. Pool was beautiful and chilly for those hot days. Restaurant had good food and the team was flexible with times (we came in at 2 after activities and they served us lunch, which was much appreciated!). Loved our stay! Saw coati, hummingbirds, lots of cool insects and a tayra on property. Recommend driving to the lodge in the daylight. Very close to Mistico Hanging Bridges.

The road to the lodge was washed out and we couldn’t get our car up the steep incline with hairpin turns. One of the men had to get our car passed that area but left us to drive the rest of the way up the dangerous road. The view was amazing, but the chalet was dated and old. It is an older era quaint property and if you can accept that you will enjoy! Our family played at the pool table one night and had so much fun! It has beautiful private grounds, helpful staff and had a gorgeous view of the volcano from our room. Definitely need a 4x4 car to traverse the steep windy driveway in (there are signs that say “halfway there, trust” lol) but worth it as so private but so close to Fortuna!

We were thoroughly disappointed with our stay at Arenal Hotel Lodge. The only positive aspect was the friendly staff. However, everything else was outdated and poorly maintained. The furniture was stained beyond repair, making it unappealing to use two of the sofas in our room. The food was terrible, and the hotel’s location made it difficult to access outside food, requiring a two-hour journey.
Getting to the hotel from the main road was an excruciating 15-minute drive on a very slopped and crapy road. By the time you finally arrived at your room, you will be so exhausted and not willing to descend again. Overall, we were very disappointed with this place.

The only drawback was a huge rain storm overnight. We could understand hearing the rain on the roof, but there was something banging from the wind that kept us up a bit. The drive up to the actual hotel is pretty wild especially at night it felt so scary through the dark winding road like if you were in a Jurassic Park movie. However the view and property ambience was worth it. Property could use some extra amenities to make it top notch, specifically you can hear every creak through the walls and floors.
