Thoroughly enjoyed this resort, our home for 6 days. Not pretentious, truly authentic beauty. All staff were not only accommodating, but felt like friends, Joaquin, Luis, Jorge, Fernando, Leah and Justin, to name a few. Large rooms, excellent housekeeping, and restaurant had great options, some excellent ones. Could use more selection in cocktails for all inclusive. Lava springs and foliage/landscaping were the fantastic icing on the cake. Close to nature hikes, wildlife, and excursion options. View of volcano is spectacular, if the clouds cooperate.

This is a old property and nice lush gardens the big problem is that the people there is really slow for everything. The food was buffet style every lunch and dinner and brake fast and always was the same. The room was clean but looks like they don’t pay attention to details.

Montana del Fuego is the worst-managed resort of any resort we’ve ever stayed at.. The view of a lake and the volcano from our room was magnificent; the massage therapists were outstanding, and the concierge, Roxana, as well as Jorje, plus Fernando and others in the dining room, were excellent, but…

The bathtub in the room was cracked and leaked from the bottom so that water came over the bathroom floor. This was dangerous, since the entire two bedroom unit had only one small mirror in its only bathroom, so we had to be careful that we weren’t using the hairdryer while our feet were in water. Water also came through the windows and onto the floor and soaked our luggage in the main bedroom.

Moreover, the water for the tub was lukewarm and only dribbled from the faucet. Complaints to the management resulted in only a minor adjustment to the warmth and the water pressure.

There was only one lamp in the two bedrooms. It did not even have an on and off switch. When plugged in, it constantly flickered, so we could never depend on any light from this one lamp. Promises from the front desk to replace it were unfulfilled.

Although we had an all inclusive package, a number of meals were mediocre buffets.

For the first four days at the resort, the pipes screeched louder than any cat about 20 to 30 times during the day and night.

The door from the bedroom to the porch is a quick drop off, a serious fall waiting to happen.

Yes , the resort was very clean, but it lacked small details like for example a curtain around de shower?? no hangers in the closet?? no easy room service to call on. Breakfast was wonderful but only until 9:30 Am?? No yoga classes, no Zumba classes, no Happy music to make the stay more enjoyable. But it was relaxing and the Restaurant servers and cuisine the Best!! The Guides were friendly, especially one named Jorge. At the bar there was Luis and at the pool other wonderful people. Overall, we enjoyed our trip and will recommend the Resort for relaxation, and charging the spirit. (the Spa a bit pricey for its services.!!) The Majestic Volcano view makes the Resort worthwhile. God Bless everyone at the Montana de Fuego, thank you for your hospitality!

The property is beautiful, and the room was clean. The staff was exceptional and always very friendly. Jorge was the best! He really made our stay special from helping us with our luggage, to taking us on walks around the gardens and pointing out the wildlife. We will definitely come back to this property.

DO NOT STAY HERE! This resort misrepresents itself online. The bathroom was horrible! First of all, the bathrooms appear to have never been updated. There’s mold everywhere. We had a really bad leak in our bathroom. We’d walk into the bathroom and our feet would be soaked. We contacted management to try to get it fixed but were ignored. The poor front desk people were nice but nothing was done. They sent a security guard to see if he could fix it. One time a maintenance person came to look at it, after our persistent pleas, he said he was leaving to get a tool and would be back but never came back. Our entire stay we had this issue. There was at least an inch of pooled water. We asked to switch rooms because the leak was so bad but were ignored. They kept saying they would contact us but never did. I emailed management afterwards and included pictures. They said they would get back to us and one month later still haven’t contacted us.
The website, including Expedia say this resort has Wifi, that is another lie! They told us at the resort they haven’t had wifi in YEARS!
The mud pit advertised is so gross, it’s one little bowl with one paint brush that everyone uses.
The so called thermal pools are dirty ponds and they are cold.
The pool bar closes at 6pm.
I would not book this resort again or recommend it to anyone.
The foliage around the resort is stunning but that doesn’t make the resort good enough to stay at.

Extremely Disappointing – Poor Hygiene, False Advertising, and Unprofessional Staff

As someone who works in hospitality, I was truly disbelieving of the service and condition of this resort. Upon arrival, it was obvious that the room had not been cleaned the mirror was dirty, there was mold on the wall, and gecko droppings were visible. This level of neglect and lack of hygiene is unacceptable in any accommodation.

They advertised Wi-Fi in the room, but there was no Wi-Fi access in the bedroom at all. The family room did not uphold expectations it was cramped, poorly maintained, and fell far below any reasonable standard.

When I brought these concerns to the reception, the staff member was rude, dismissive, and unethical. There was no apology, no attempt to make things right just an unprofessional attitude that left us completely dissatisfied.

Coming from the hospitality industry myself, I was shocked at how poorly everything was handled. This resort lacks both cleanliness and basic customer care. I strongly urge future guests to reconsider booking until serious improvements are made.

Wonderful stay close to La Fortuna

We had only a breif stay at Montana Fuego - very relaxing - lovely grounds and lots of birds - and frogs. The thermales pools were very relaxing and the cool pool great for the kids - the staff were wonderful - extremely helpful with every request. The room was clean and very comfortable and spacious with a beautiful veranda and view into the grounds. Close enough to La Fotuna - and yet felt right out in the country - the bathrooms close to the pool were not very clean - but we were there over the weekend and there were lots of guests. Wonderful stay!

Beautiful property. We stayed in a superior bungalow and they’re situated for privacy and really incredible views. We kept the windows open to listen to night sounds but there’s also air conditioning. The rooms are a bit dated but the location and view and privacy and amenities more than make up for it. Pool and thermal pool facilities are charming. Staff was friendly and gracious. I’d gladly stay there again.

This property needs a lot of help. The staff is outstanding, but every facet of this hotel is in dire need of help. Here is my list:
ROOMS: I booked two rooms and they were both terrible. My room had gaps so big in the walls that bugs were coming in. The room had a hole in he wall that looked to be made by a drill and it was lightly filled in with toilet paper. Almost like a peeping Tom hole. There was no reliable hot water in the shower, so I had to take very cold showers. The walls are very thin, so you have to turn the AC or fan on to shield people walking by outside. Forget about privacy. The room reminded me of a summer camp for kids. The other rooms (upgraded, in a building that contains 6-8 other rooms) was a bit better, but the beds in all rooms were uncomfortable and the rooms were definitely in the 1 start range.

The location and pools are great!
The price is fair , but BEWARE, even tho we selected the (pay on site option offered in expedia, we were called by the hotel staff twenty four hourses ealier to our stay date , and required us to pay inmediately cash or money transfer ELSE we will loose our reservation. We mentioned we ve never experienced that with this option (not first time using it) They said tit didnt matter as they changed their policy and we needed to pay in a timely manner. ( we had to drive 50min back and forward the day before to our stay to \"assure and keep\" our reservation which made us waste time and gas

The hotel room was crawling with ants, there was lots of mold in the bathroom and was so gross we refused to use it. We had to request blankets for our room. There was supposed to be volcano mud by the pool At 11:00 but no one showed up and the Worst was the staff was completely unapologetic for they’re low standards.

I arrived at the property and made a reservation in a large suite only listing my name because I didn’t know who was staying with me. My Friends had a room booked as well but there was a
Mixup with the reservations so they had to stay in another hotel for the night. I spoke to the ladies at the front desk who told me that my friends could use the property for the evening at no additional cost.

each had to pay $30 to be on the property. The day passes were $19 per person and my suite had an occupancy of 4 people.

Enjoyed the guided walks around the property, however this was only offered once per day and it was very early in the morning. Didn't have a chance to do the other free activities offered because, again, it was only offered at one specific time. The springs were not what you would expect of hot springs. For true hot springs you should go off site. Activities could be booked through the hotel, but we found better things to do on our own. We rented a vehicle and it was an easy drive from the airport to the property. The location to the volcano is amazing and a short drive to activities. Would go back.

Front desk service was the only downside to this hotel.Unfortunately,the front desk girl,Veronica,was a real pain in the @ss.Have you ever met a person who just always looked for a way to say NO rather than a way to get you what you need?She is this person.FINALLY got into the room we thought we had booked,we actually liked this place.Had a nice free breakfast and some amazing property.Tons of wildlife,nice pool,hot springs and a great view of the volcano.A really nice highlight was an employee named Jorge,he took our family on a night tour that lasted 2 hours.He was pleased to see our kids get so excited about the insects, animals, etc.We saw many animals and my kids fell in love with him.Every night he would come by to let us know when special animals were visible so we could see them.This was the type of guy that went out of his way to please.Then there was Leo, a man who showed us the farm animals.My kids enjoyed that so much. Simple stuff but he took the time to explain so much to us.So nice that we wanted to take him up on the horse riding but when we talked to Veronica again,she figured every way possible for us to not do that activity. First it was the price.She tried to up-sell us on some other activity.Then she said my daughter was too young.Isn't it height/weight?My daughter just did a horseriding trip in Guanacaste a few days prior. She was one of the worst people we've ever dealt with.With the exception of Veronica, I would recommend this hotel.Cross your fingers

Beautiful, relaxing vacation spot

We had a junior suite near the entrance which was conveniently located near the restaurant, lobby, and pools and back from the road so it was quiet. The room was was a perfect size for three adults and had lovely views of the beautiful plants. We enjoyed the hot springs and breakfasts on property and the off property white water rafting, coffee/chocolate tour, and zip lining. While the room did not have WiFi, only the common areas did, the restaurant staff allowed us to stay there as long as needed and use the WiFi.

Much more beautiful than I expected.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel pictures on the site don't do it justice. Really a great place to stay. My husband & I are considering coming back and staying with our boys.
The service all around is really great. The staff is very friendly & very helpful.
We met another couple that stayed here in one of the smaller bungalows. They stated that they had a great view of the lush forests behind them and even saw 3 monkeys up in the trees.
Heads up: the rooms dont have wi-fi unless they are close to the pool/bar, restaurant, or front desk.

I stayed there a few times it's a decent place although they treat the towels like they are gold. Getting extra towels is like applying for a mortgage. If it's a view you're looking for this hotel has it.

The photos on this hotel's website don't do any justice. It is far more amazing than it shows. The property is absolutely gorgeous! The cabins are nice, convenient, comfortable and clean!
The outdoor facilities, the thermal pools, the view of Arenal just across the street, are all absolutely awesome!
Loved, loved, loved it!!!
Location is great! Close to town of La Fortuna, close to Are making and many more attractions.

Dirty day pass backpackers ruin mineral pool exper

I just checked in yesterday and had a wonderful check in experience. The front desk staff was very friendly, they already prepared a packet with my name on it. Very organized. I was impressed. I was also informed that I received a perk because I was Expedia VIP. That was a very good start.

After unpacking, I decided to check out the spa and the hot mineral pools. One of the reasons I booked at the hotel is they have hot mineral pools available for the guests.

To my surprise, the mineral pool I was going to get into was surrounded by a lot of dirty, muddy backpackers. The owners of the backpacks were in the water. I don’t know how clean they might have been when they got into the mineral water, but their backpacks and the clothing put back on were filthy dirty with mud. There were about 20 of them, enough to fill the small mineral pool. So, I decided to check out the spa. The Jacuzzi at the entrance of the spa looked inviting. No sooner did I think about getting into it than 13 of the backpackers jumped in and we’re shoulder to shoulder. They have bright yellow wristbands which apparently a day pass. I asked about at the front desk, and I was told that they came in on a day pass for $17. I am staying three nights which cost over $700..... I do not think I should have to share the mineral pool with a bunch of dirty backpacker bodies, or be completely excluded from the spa Jacuzzi because it is COMPLETELY FULL of bodies with the bright yellow wristband indicating day pass

Beautiful and convenient

Beautiful property, lovely cabins. Clean rooms, wonderful staff, variety of fun things to do and/or enjoy. The website pictures don't do enough justice to the real thing.

Okay. No internet in room. Good Breakfast.

We stayed in the Superior Deluxe rooms for the first two nights. And we later realized the smaller rooms (which are at the outskirts of the property) actually have a much nicer view at a lower cost. The superior deluxe rooms have two distinct rooms (a living room and a bedroom). The sofa in the living room was horrible...the kind you would not want to touch or sit on. And my husband tried sitting on it and it just sagged inwards. The bedroom was nice with huge windows. The bathroom is strictly OK -- the stone is old and it doesn't give a clean feeling. But it is actually not unclean or anything...it is just the grains of the stone. The breakfast was good with a great view of Arenal volcano (well, on a clear day). One big thing....ROOMS HAVE NO INTERNET. If that is a deal-breaker for you, then do not consider this hotel. (Internet only in the lobby and common areas).

In terms of location, it is about a 15 min drive from the city center. If you do not have a car, then the hotel has a shuttle service (we did not use however -- since we had a car). There is a horseback tour that starts right in front of the hotel (the guy is called Alex I think) -- which is awesome!

A nice place to stay

Great views from restaurant, rooms, and grounds.. Everyone gets their own bungalow, therefore very private. The rooms, restaurant, and pools with swim-up bar are very nice. Food is good, but breakfast could use more variety.

This is our 2nd stay here in the last 9 years and would recommend it to anybody. This is a very simple bungalow style resort. Beautiful, very relaxing, and quiet. Our 7 year olds loved it as well!

Beautiful resort with excellent view

We stayed in a standard bungalow and had a gorgeous view of the Arenal volcano. We got a massage out first day that felt amazing and the hot springs and volcanic mud was relaxing. I definitely recommend this resort.
