The thing about this place - very very basic and even below that if don’t mind ! Decent breakfast and very nice ladies helping there. Big advantage is the location and proximity to restaurants and restaurants and everything close by! Other than that do not except anything form the rooms- oh yes and there is housekeeping everyday so that’s nice! I mean I just wish the rooms smelled better and the bathroom showers works ! We checked out early because of this! I will not stay here again! It’s perhaps for the solo traveler or college kids ! Not likely for families !

I totally love this place. I had a private room with bathroom, and it contained everything I needed - safe, fridge, desk, and a really comfy bed.
Breakfast was great, staff were amazing, friendly, helpful and fun.
I found that it's the sort of place where you can be really sociable if you want that, but also just sit quietly and be alone.
There are hundreds of places to stay in La Fortuna, but when I return next year, I'll be booking La Choza again. The value for money is fantastic.

We chose Hotel La Choza Inn primarily for its location, and it absolutely delivered. It’s very close to downtown La Fortuna, with shops, restaurants, and sodas all within easy walking distance. One of our favorites, Soda Nima, was just around the corner. If you want to be in the heart of town without needing transportation, this spot is hard to beat.
The hotel is clearly a budget-friendly option, so amenities—both on-site and in the room—are minimal, but everything was well maintained. What really stood out was the housekeeping staff. Our room was serviced daily, kept extremely clean, and they even folded items we left out, which was more attention than we expected at this price point.
Security was also a big plus. The property uses wristbands and has a 24-hour attendant monitoring entries and exits, which made us feel very safe. Nights were generally quiet, and we had no issues with noise.
They do offer shuttle services to local destinations, which is a nice touch, though we had a rental car and didn’t need to use them.
Overall, this is a great value stay with an excellent location, cleanliness, and security. The only minor downside was inconsistent hot water in the shower—I had a couple of cold showers during our stay. I’m not sure if this is a regular issue or just a temporary one, but it’s worth mentioning.

I was only here one night, in a private room. It was about as basic as it gets. The bed was okay but I could feel the individual springs. The included breakfast was alright but nothing spectacular. The staff were all very polite and professional, but the property itself was very much the stereotypical hostel, passable but not memorable.

We were impressed with the how clean and how extremely helpful and nice the entire staff was. Breakfast was more than hopped for. Room was basic but clean and AC worked nicely. The pictures does this place more justice than actually being here. This place is more for people on a solo trip. It gives more college free spirit vibe than friends and family. They give you a free shuttle service to one of the hot springs in la Fortuna which is a big thing out there. When we went to check out one of the staff was popping an older man’s pimples off his back and just waved us off. So we found that very unsanitary and the water was not hot, so we had to take a cold shower.

We were in a standard double room with our son. We were just looking for a cheap place to stay since we weren't planning on spending much time at the hotel/inn and the price here was definitely good. The rooms were clean and housekeeping service was good. The AC worked which was great. We didn't always have hot water but taking a cold shower was actually better since it's so hot outside. The beds/pillow were OK - they weren't that comfortable but can't expect much at that price. The breakfast was nice, served daily from 7-9am. No free hot springs are included with this hotel where some other cheap hotel/hostels do include one free trip to the hot springs. They only provide a free shuttle to the free hot springs once daily around 1pm. Overall, for a family trip or a budget traveler, this place was good!

Cleanliness is an issue as there were the dirty house flies in bathrooms that would fly at night in your face. It was quite yucky.

I liked it so much I went back for a second stay. Showers were warm/hot. AC in private rooms worked well. They keep it super clean. Great communal space to chill. Dog on site is super cute! They're very helpful when it comes to helping book tours. The free breakfast is awesome and the laundry is $3/k and comes back the same day. My *only* grievance is that the internet is rough if you're trying to work. Low mbps for so many people that stay there at one time. Otherwise, highly recommend!

La Choza is great! It’s a an excellent deal for what you get. My two biggest selling points were the free breakfast included and proximity to town. It’s a super close (and safe) walk to town but juuuust outside enough to be quiet. The WiFi could be stronger but there’s AC, warm showers, nice seating areas, and daily housekeeping. Solid buy.

The room was a bit dated and needed to be updated a bit. The mattress had a large dip in it due to missing boards in the frame. There were a decent amount of bugs in the room too. The staff was very friendly. Overall, even for the price and being in the rainforest I expected it to be a bit better.

The lady was very nice. Despite her and I having a language barrier, she was very hospitable. She told me they offer a one-time visit to an off-site thermal hot spring. Compared to the man (whom I assumed was her husband) who spoke English but was not very welcoming. The worse part was one night, one of the receptionist (not sure who) let an unwelcomed (male) visitor into the hotel and told them where I was staying without asking me or letting me know. I found it a BIG security concern. Especially, as a lady.

Quiet place to stay in La Fortuna
This was a I’ve quiet place to stay in La Fortuna. I believe we were one of the only guests due to the pandemic. The value for the price is worth it. The family that runs the facility is very nice and welcoming. The breakfast is very good- fruit, juice, coffee, tea, rice, beans, and eggs. You can book tours directly on-site, although we did not use this service. There are hot springs and a pool available for free use through the hotel off-site. It’s quite a walk so easier to drive or take a taxi. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the bus stop and the supermarket. Arenal is a short drive away. AC in the room. Bed was hard and the facility is a bit old, but this is pretty standard throughout Costa Rica. Overall, a nice experience. I would stay here again.

La Choza Inn was super clean and simple. The staff was very informative about the tours and shuttle transportation around La Fortuna. We got the double private room and it was spacious and very clean. 5/5 I recommend this place. It's also nicely tucked away from the busy touristy town of La Fortuna.

Wonderful receptionist who was very helpful and spoke both English and Spanish. Great location a block off the main street. They give a one-time free shuttle to the free hot springs river area (an Uber there is about US$7). The only problem was on a Friday night it was quite loud until 2am due to a party next door.

At first I wasn't sure if I'd like this place(didn't get a warm greeting like at my last hostel). As the day settled i grew to like it for what it was: a simple yet comfortable hotel that had what I needed including a coffee machine. All staff were friendly, breakfast was good and when I asked about the free shuttle to the hot springs I got exactly what I needed. Yahoo!

It is called hostel but practically it’s a hotel, because you get towels and breakfast. Location is perfect, nice and kind crew. Comfortable and clean rooms. Very recommended

Difficult and frustrating to get hot water
It was next to impossible to get hot water for showers. I had to go down to the office to ask for hot water every day and it took between an hour and an hour and a half to get the hot water which only lasted about 10 minutes with water pressure fluctuation from okay to none. One woman told me she did all she could. She changed the batteries and someone else must be using the hot water so we would just have to wait. We checked for hot water at 8 am, 9 am, 4 pm, and 3:30 am with no luck.
The staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was simple and delicious, but our sheets were never changed, our room was never swept, the room smelled of mildew, and the hot water is a scarce commodity.

There was an overbooking issue and when we arrived they told us that the room we booked was not available. Instead we were put in a dormitory room that was reserved for us so that it would be private. Not exactly the room we paid for but didn't get anything in exchange. The room had a functioning ac unit which was great, but definitely had a mouldy smell to it. Our room had very spotty Wi-Fi and we needed to step out of the room to get better signal.
The breakfast is an amazing deal and we really enjoyed eating it every morning. The location is a plus and is a quick walk to the town center.
If we had gotten the room we booked, maybe our experience would have been different, but I doubt we would ever stay here again.

Good for the price
This place had a great location right next to the downtown La Fortuna square. It was well maintained and they had good tour deals advertised in the office. They also had a really good price

Awesome place to stay on a budget. Clean beds, good solid basic breakfast and the free transportation to the natural river hot springs is worth more than the price of the hotel.

\"Breakfast\" is two rubbery pancakes and a few pieces of stale fruit and they ask you to wash the dishes after yourself (not a joke) while the staff watches. Terrible beds and towels were like old rags. Not very friendly service either. Would not stay there again and would not recommend. Could not wait to get the he'll out of that place.

On line booking problems
Reception staff worked with me to get the room I wanted despite not having received my on line booking made over a week earlier. Then they spent an hour and half helping me cancel my third night working with the on line agency who seemed unable to contact the hotel even after being given 2 numbers to reach the hotel because their number did not have the correct number of digits. The on line booking company still couldn't seem to place the call an finally accepted the hotels second call to them saying they had no problem with our cancelling.

Average place. Many better options in the area. Only major complaint was there was no hot water in the shower. After asking to have something done, nothing was done and cold showers were tollerable, but not what was advertised.

Bare Necessities.
No screen on the louvered windows let the bugs in attracted to the light. No weatherstripping on doors, we watched cockroaches scurry into our room. Only one light and one plug in the room, no lamps. No fan and it was hot even in the rainy season. The extremely flat pillows smelled of body odor. The communal kitchen mentioned in the LP guidebook wasn't very communal.

This was an excellent choice for the price we paid. The double room which was very clean was upstairs with litle balcony, private bathroom, comfortable double bed,wifi, tv and little desk with coffee maker. Breakfast was included in our price and we were happy with it, good fruit and scrambled eggs with toast, jams coffee, tea.

Glad to be alive
Two commercial trucks (drivers staying there), backed their trucks up to the hotel and left them running - and exhaust filled our room. If I had not woken up because of diesel fumes, we would have died. The person on in the office (adjacent to trucks running) only gave us another room when I kept yelling about death and we had to move everything ourselves, with bad headache.

Very suitable for a short stay. Was pleased that the room had a safe, hairdryer and coffee machine. Pleasant basic breakfast. In walking distance to the main town - literally 2 minutes away. Would be a bonus if there was a recreation /lounging room where one can sit and relax, send emails etc.

Although we were booked for a superior room with 2 queen beds, we were allocated one with only one bed. However, as it had a balcony and the hotel said it would not charge for air conditioning, we settled for this. Staff were helpful when we had a problem with our transfer. Breakfast was good.

Good place to rest up and book tours around Arenal
The private room I had at La Choza was comfortable, had cable tv, AC and wifi that reached from the main office. Breakfast consisted of pineapple, watermelon, scrambled eggs, toast and juice. It was very easy to book tours at the main office. LA Choza had everything I needed except wifi didn't work for a few hours. A modem reset fixed that issue though.
