This family own hotels is nice spend a couple of nights. 5 minutes from down town. Daily room cleaning and breakfast. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Safe parking too.

The staff was pleasant and breakfast was good but in my opinion this should not be labeled as a hotel because it is deceiving. Rather it is a motel or guest house. The room had zero essential amenities as skin lotion and bathing soap or shower gel which is usually supplied once named under a “hotel”. I saw an unlabeled container in the bathroom which I was told is used as both shampoo and bathing soap. On my first out of 4 days I only received 2 small soap bars which was done by day 2. Although the room was cleaned every day, they never saw the need to replenish the bar soap. I had to text and ask whether the soap was given as complementary gift since there is nothing to wash my hands with after using the bathroom. Only to be told that if I need bar soap I can come to reception area. The walls are very thin which makes sleeping difficult if you are in a new environment. The window in the bathroom needs to be cleaned as it is rusty. Ventilation in the room is extremely poor and although I left the air conditioner on after leaving for the day on tours, I came back to an unventilated room. I felt very unsafe as a female solo travel on the first night and the place is a bit secluded. The reception area is closed at nights with a middle / elderly security whom in my opinion will not be able to defend in the event of a break in. I tolerated until my last day only because this was the meeting place for all my booked tours. I would not recommend this stay to anyone despite the price.

The staff at Hotel Colores were exceptional. This is a family owned operation and you can tell they care about the people staying there. From the check-in to the breakfast and even helping us find the sloth family that were visiting the property during our stay. I have to say this place is a hidden gem. Our room was on the smaller side. The beds were not like the ones at home. But I would stay here again in a heartbeat because the owners and staff care about your stay. And that for me is worth more than a lot of other things. Make your reservation today. You won’t be disappointed.

WOW! We are staying 4 nights and so lucky to have chosen this hotel. The setting is fantastic, lovely and so relaxing especially the gardens, river, pond with ducks and the refreshing covered outdoor pool. Staff Marinela & Elena are very kind, helpful and efficient. Our room is spacious but minimal storage space. Lots of free parking and safe. Delicious outdoor breakfast by Karina and Cristina. A short drive to the town center. Highly recommended!

Beautiful landscape, lots of wildlife (monkeys & iguanas), annd air conditioned rooms. Felt like a little resort. Having a refrigerator in the room was nice. The room was really small but we weren’t there so it’s ok. There was no hot water in the shower. The family who owns it was REALLY nice and friendly. Free breakfast outside by a little creek was really beautiful. I would stay there again!

An oasis in La Fortuna

Ten minutes walk outside La fortuna centre this hotel is an oasis. The grounds are beautiful and full of bird life, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean. Would definitely recommend!

We only stayed at Hotel Colores del Arenal for one night but we had a wonderful time! The rooms were clean, staff were friendly, and they have the best Costa Rican breakfast! Would stay again if ever back in Costa Rica!

We loved staying here. The room and bathroom is spacious and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. We love the outdoor space surrounding the area. Access to the pool was also a bonus. Breakfast was great. Perfect for families with young children. Has all the comfort but also still feel close to nature/outdoor.

The shower head was very dirty & caked with sediments and it was not attached well; there was plain tape on the shower head and as much water sprayed backward against the wall as came out of the shower head itself.
The mattress was extremely firm & slim and I did not find it very comfortable.
Neighborhood dogs were very loud, but there's nothing the hotel can do about that.

The property is located close from downtown. There is river that runs across the property, and there is also a lake, so there is a lot of nature in the property. This hotel is very quiet, and the staff is very friendly.

Nice little river running beside property. Some wildlife and a pond with ducks. Seemed like a good variety of people staying on the property the same time that my wife and I were there. Actual owner of property residing close by. Difficult to find location at 1st. Couldn't see any signs. Good breakfast, but very skimpy. No extras allowed without extra charge. No cooler in room. Shower set-up not the greatest, and very small sink. Fairly clean property, though.

This is a family run establishment, it is clean and pleasant with a good breakfast. We had noisy neighbours on the first night but the owners had a chat with them and they were quiet on the second night. Good value money.

Beautiful place to stay. Short walk to the town centre. Apart from the occasional howler monkey it was ver quiet. In the morning we saw an otter and turtle in the river on the property and in the afternoon a number of large iguanas were sunning themselves on the grass!

Check-in here and stay in a quieter part of La Fortuna! 15-minute walk from the “parada” (bus station ). 3 mins to the supermarket.

The rooms are impeccably clean, beds comfortable. a/c in the room and a tranquil view out of each window.

Breakfast is wonderful, in an outdoor dining area that overlooks the Río Burío. Access to the shared kitchen and a kettle in the breakfast area. Evenings, the toads and crickets serenaded us!

Tour service isn’t the most-informed, but helpful nonetheless. I discussed my budget and got relevant suggestions.

Convenient that they accept payment either in foreign card or cash.

No Major Problems With Hotel Colores

There are six units are this hotel. The grounds are clean and appealing. It’s located a short distance outside of Fortuna; it’s too far to walk to town and restaurants. A grocery store is within walking distance. Our room was clean; not any luxury but the essentials are provided. Beds are wooden, topped with a FIRM mattress.

Arrived at the hotel. Office closed. I was told I was at the wrong hotel. U had to call Hotels.com twice and after one hour I was shown to my room
The next day the receptionist said she didn’t know how Hotels.com made reservations because we close the office at 8👎

A gem of a find in La Fortuna

The owner was a very gentle kind man; he couldn't do enough for you. The rooms were a nice size including the bathroom with a very large shower. The rooms were cleaned daily and were very clean. Breakfast was a choice of three one of which was the American breakfast; the coffee was great and plenty of it. The yard was beautiful with a pond that had fish and ducks; many beautiful trees and flowers which were picture perfect. We had a lot of rain but we were still able to sit outside in the breakfast area which was covered. The hotel is close to a grocery store however not within walking distance to town. We had a car which took us about 7 mins to town so I would suspect a taxi would not cost much. I would recommend this hotel!!

Great clean hotel, friendly staff

Absolutely amazing. It was quiet and beautiful and the breakfast was great. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Everyone we interacted with was polite and helpful. I would definitely stay there again. We loved that it was perfectly situated in town and close to Arenal, but secluded from resorts which allowed for an authentic Costa Rican feel.

The owner was so helpful, courteous and accommodating. He helped with tours, booking cabs and any questions we had. The breakfast was made to order and great as well. A little further of a walk from the strip, about 15 min walk, but in a nice secluded spot. Some bugs made their way into our room on a rainy night but a towel under the door solved that problem.

It could be way better

The grounds are beautiful this hotel is good for only 1 night. Is very small rooms and my issue is little ants invade your room non stop. And the beds are like sleep I g on the floor very hard matress.

We had a great time while in La Fortuna. The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of the town, yet close enough to walk to the town center. The rooms are very clean, the pool was perfect to swim in and the breakfast was home made with love! This is our second time staying at Hotel Colores de Arenal!

Beautiful, relaxing setting

This small hotel offered a relaxing sanctuary in a beautiful setting. The walk to the center of Fortuna was about 10 minutes, and the grocery store down the street was ideal for getting snacks and cold beverages. The included breakfast offered a choice of 3 cooked to order entrees, and was delicious. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Nice place to see many birds

This place is not close to the hustle/bustle of the city and that is its charm. The room was quite small, had good lighting with two large windows despite it being a small room. Individual room entrances. More than once, I found workers just passing by right outside our window and I had to close the curtains. One window faced some tropical plants while the other faced the back where they had stored stuff. No coffee/tea maker in the room. First afternoon, they sent us some coffee to the room as it was raining and we had just checked in. We couldn't get coffee in the evenings after that as there was no staff to make it. You have to take a cab into town (just $2) to go to some nice restaurants/shopping etc. The reason for me giving this good review is that the co-owner was very nice and helpful to let my husband use his computer/fax when something urgent came up. Breakfast was quite good, served outdoors overlooking the small artificial lake and the surrounding trees/vegetation. THE BEST part of this hotel is that we could tons of colorful birds around. I spotted 8-9 diff species (tanagers, 4 toucans at once, hummingbirds, red hepatic tanager) on one banana tree in the morning! It was fascinating to watch them upclose and take photos. This was one of the best places for this. Wifi was decent. Room has a shower but weak flow to the shower head...no fan in the bathroom which seems common everywhere in CR. The toilet made bubbly noises and it was failry loud.

Beautiful little hotel

The hotel seems relatively new with beautiful and modern rooms. The surrounding park ist very nice, as well as breakfast, where we could choose from three different types of breakfast. Downtown La Fortuna is about a 10 minute walk away. The staff was friendly and helped us with reservations.

Good hotel but needs improvement

The hotel is located in a quiet area. Set beside a lake, sports grounds and a swimming pool it is extremely peaceful, where the only noise you hear is nature.
This was good for our stay with nice restful nights, but it may not be ideal for someone who wants to enjoy the nightlife (especially at the weekends) of the centre. It's a little too far and dark to walk home safely.
The highlight of the hotel is the bathroom. It's nice and spacious with an incredibly lovely shower that runs hot water any time of day....bliss!
The downside - as other reviewers have mentioned, there is no space to leave bags, suitcases, or to store your contents from them. Just a couple of feeble hanging rails and no shelving unit.
Also, a big annoyance of mine was that you had to pull the bed out so far from the wall just to use the electrical points behind them!
Overall, although the room was clean, fresh and new it was let down somewhat by the poor layout and design as mentioned above.

Needs a few improvements before it is excellent.

This 6-room hotel is less than a year old. It is set on lovely, parklike grounds with a rushing stream, birds,iguanas, a pond,flowers. pool and covered eating area. Grounds are well-kept.A modest breakfast is served each day.
The rooms, overall, are quite clean, but the daily upkeep could be better--shower drain never got cleaned in a several day stay. There is a modest sugar ant battle in some rooms.
There are comfort challenges. No vending, ice machines, snacks or refrigeration of any sort. The design is a clean cut, modern approach with straight lines---but I feel the owner needs to spend a night in a room. There are no seats besides one hard wood bench for the desk. No seats! If you have four folks, you are stuck sitting on the bed all day. A pair of plastic chairs outside the doors would be a help, with the option to pull them inside. Your suitcases end up on the floor.It seems a bench by the entryway would be a good spot for shoes and luggage to rest. Beds are rock hard, but would benefit from a foam topper. There is no rug to wipe your feet, leaving wet grass by the door. A hand towel would be nice. On a good note, shampoo and soap are provided.
Perhaps the worst part is the shower water---never did get to a medium temperature. It's blistering hot, and if you turn on the cold, just a little, it changes to ice cold. s. Our showers sucked.
Management is kind. I hope the owners heed the suggestions. Comfort really does need improvement.
