The staff were wonderful. We were late in arriving but staff made the check-in process smooth and easy. We were in unit 1 which has a view of the bay and a wonderful outside sitting area with a bbq. Linens were nice and beds comfortable. The heat pump worked well when we needed air conditioning or heat. The staff were very helpful during an unusual heavy rainfall event to make sure we were safe and had everything we needed. We would stay again if we are back in the area. Hot water beach and Cathedral Cove are within easy driving distance.

Why a little dated we were blown away by the awesome amenities and great service. The rooms had everything we needed including a Weber bbq and great air con. The young couple that checked us in were really attentive and offered beach towels, spades for hot water beach etc as well as great advice on places to eat drink and swim.

The rooms were clean and comfortable on the inside. The property on the outside was very unkept. Driving in made me very worried.
The owner was very helpful and was helpful with beach towels, dining advice and grocery shopping.
Overall our stay was pleasant. Easy walk to a small town. Lots of walking trails and drivable ocean beach.

Have stayed here a lot and since new owners the grounds have been left to grow weeds even the little patio off our room.
Shower was shocking - water temperature up and down then totally cold and with no pressure!

We were in an attractive and quite spacious studio unit with a courtyard. The decor, including artwork, was pleasant. We had a couple of malfunctions with appliances but staff dealt with this immediately - and cheerfully. The unit is close to the estuary and a short, lovely walk into the townshio. One slight problem is ventilation in the bathroom. To air it you need to open the windows which are right beside the drive/path to the office so with the windows open other guests or staff can see in. Perhaps security stays on those windows are the answer.

Hidden away, this property was run by a very pleasant young couple. The accommodation, with moderate space, has been partly upgraded (as you see on the web page, the bathroom is an open concept and our unit had a newer tile floor). Just enough room to have open two suitcases and not much else. The patio furniture was not pleasant at all, but the patio area did provide a quaint ambience. We did not cook, but even at that, there was very limited equipment (down to the point of not having any forks in the cutlery drawer). The TV sheet said 7 channels were available, where you could only receive 5. The bed was very comfortable and a freestanding fan was the only means to stay cool.
Overall the price was much more than what I expected for the lower quality of accommodation. Again, nice folks taking care of the place, but they could do better, or charge less.

Pleasant hotel near to bay and ferry jetty to other side. Close to shops and town facilities. Great place to start a walk around the beautiful bay. Rooms 1 to 4 have semi-private little gardens behind them. Rooms 5-8 have small private gardens behind them - see photo.

The suite/motel room was SUPER clean. No water view, unfortunately, and no A/C (no screen windows either) so you had to kind of air things out while the sun was out (and the mosquitos were gone!) but a cute little spot and good value.

Location is good. Hotel staff are nice and helpful. The bay view from the room was pretty - wish we had more time to enjoy. Close to restaurant and shops. The only thing is the shower door is not a good design so the water leaks to the floor.

The outside door was standing open, and there were flies. I had notified the owners that chemical and fragrance would trigger my asthma. So they sprayed for flies then left the room wide open to air out. That would have been swell, but no window or door had a screen, so it was flies or fresh air. It was also raining and very humid, so it was also a choice between fresh air and flies or sweltering and no flies. Apparently window screens are rather rare in NZ, so when we inquired the woman looked rather blank. She did say she appreciated our comment....several times.
It was very disappointing, especially since other than that, the location, upkeep, cleanliness and comfort were all excellent.

Comfortable and convenient

Don't be put off by the out-of-town location, because the 10-minute stroll along the shoreline path to Tairua's shops and restaurants is an absolute delight.

Our unit (no 5) was spacious and well equipped, with an exceptionally comfortable king size bed.

The only small negatives were rather weak water pressure in the otherwise lovely shower, and the severely weathered wooden furniture and decking on the patio.

A very useful amenity here is the guest laundry behind unit 4. It's cheaper to bring your own washing powder or liquid than to buy it from reception.
