We had the most wonderful stay at Blackwell House in Scarva! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome — nothing was too much trouble. The house itself is absolutely beautiful, full of charm and character, with every little detail thought of to make guests feel at home. The food was incredible (and plentiful!) and the rooms were spotless, cosy, and luxurious all at once.

It’s one of those rare places where you can truly switch off and relax, and yet still feel utterly spoiled. A huge thank you to the hosts, whose warmth and hospitality made our stay so special — we honestly didn’t want to leave. We’ll definitely be back!

What a wonderful stop on our trip! The property was beautiful and Edele and Alessio were so attentive to our needs. We had a seven course tasting menu and breakfast prepared by Sonia Russell and Louise Hynes. The food at both meals was so delicious and there was so much attention to detail. One dish, the pea and mint soup, brought tears to my wife’s eyes. The house and rooms were beautifully decorated and we were very comfortable. We cannot say enough about The Blackwell House. We will definitely return!

You ever went somewhere and felt like, this is home? That’s what this stay was. If you want the most luxurious, cozy, taken care of, delicious space. Book this place. I wish I would have stayed here the entire time I was in Ireland. I didn’t want to leave the home at all. The food is absolutely exquisite, music is perfect and the owners are just the most wonderful hosts I’ve ever met. I’ve made small changes in my own home since I’ve returned to live more like I did when I stayed there. Thank you all and see you in September!

A little gem!

I don’t normally leave reviews, but it feels wrong not to ensure that people realise how wonderful this place is. The attention to detail from the minute we arrived was second to none. Everything was faultless, the service, the food, the ambience, the friendly pets. Being vegan I’m used to mediocre meals from many places but Blackwell House don’t do mediocre - the menu was incredible, the food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. Breakfast was probably the best we’ve had ever, and was an experience in itself. We stayed in the Charleston room, and everything about it was luxury. We will absolutely be back again. Joyce, Steve & team have created something stunning and their passion and love for what they do is evident at all times. Thank you so much!

I can’t recommend this place enough. It is an absolute gem and a real getaway from the hustle and bustle of busy life. We were treated like absolute royalty. I don’t think I have experienced anywhere else that I felt so well looked after. Steve and Joyce are both very passionate and have put a huge amount of work into their boutique hotel. The rooms are stunning and so so comfortable. Nothing was missed and it is clear that there is attention to details with all the little touches. The place is very quiet and so relaxing. The food was exquisite and so well put together. I would recommend booking in for the 5 course meal it is worth it !! The grounds were beautifully kept and so well designed. Murphy was an outstanding canine host and we also got the pleasure of meeting Maggie, Molly and Oscar (friendly felines).We enjoyed our stay from start to finish and can’t wait to come back!

The owner Joyce was fabulous. She was very accomodating in every way. She made a dinner recommendation for us and made the reservation. The house was beautiful, the room and bed very comfortable. The breakfast was gourmet! It felt like a retreat with the beautiful flowers and garden. I would recommend the Blackwell House highly! Can't wait to stay when I go back to Ireland.

This property was \"top notch\". I really can't say enough about it. If you ever have an opportunity to be in that area of Ireland you owe it to yourself to stay a night or two here. You will not be sorry. Joyce runs a first class business.. I truly did not want to leave.

Very comfortable stay. Food was excellent. When we arrived, the cat came over to the car to welcome us (a few miaows !), then the dog (Murphy) welcomed us, then the owners. Beats any hotel !

Blackwell House is fabulous!

This property is fantastic! The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. The grounds are gorgeous and it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into the landscaping. Breakfast was great - varied and everything was fresh and done perfectly. We loved the stay there!

Five star gem - one of the best

WONDERFUL!!!!! From the moment I arrived the proprietor, Joyce made me most welcome and everything about my stay was first class.
I stayed in The Blue Room. Beautiful decor, one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, excellent bathroom with roll-top bath and separate walk-in shower with rain-shower. Lovely amenities in the bathroom, Joyce thought of everything. The tea/coffee supplies were high quality with fresh milk, fresh ground coffee and coffee pot and some very tasty homemade shortbread.
I dined both nights at Blackwell House and Joyce provides a very tasty menu with good quality produce. I especially enjoyed the Salmon and roasted vegetables and the Pear, Walnut and Blue Cheese salad. Homebaked bread was also a highlight.
Breakfast - well, what a lovely spread provided and the choice of an Ulster Fry or a healthy porridge if preferred.
I wish my stay had been longer than two nights! I would recommend Blackwell House very highly and sincerely hope it is not too long before I have the opportunity to return!
Thank you Joyce, your establishment is akin in standard to Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons in my opinion and I think you have done a brilliant job in the top quality accommodation and services Blackwell House provide.

A very beautiful house inside and out; it feels homey but elegant. The gardens were beautiful too, with a huge chicken coop (for fresh eggs at breakfast) and a small menagerie of very friendly dog and cats.

Fantastic Rural Retreat

I booked Blackwell House for a short notice business trip and it more than exceeded my expectations. Fantastic facilities, a perfect host and excellent home cooked food. Although slightly off the main roads it would be a great base for a future short holiday in Northern Ireland. Highly recommended.

We had a great stay. The room was very comfortable and had all the amenities. The bed was wonderful, the sheets were high quality and the sleep was amazing. Our breakfast was a delicious array of fresh fruits to fresh eggs and much more...again amazing! This is a very relaxing location.

A fantastic experience, the rooms are clean and spacious and the hosts make you feel at home as soon as you arrive. Make sure you stay for dinner this was a great experience however you will be sat with the other guests so make sure you are ready to socialise. The Blackwell House is pleasantly out of the way. Which means, once there you feel as if you are living in your own Manor Home in the country. Away from hotels and Ubers and traffic and crowds.

The home is stunning, beautifully decorated and comfortable. Joyce, the owner met us at the door and gave of warm, attentive service. We did not eat dinner, because it happened to be Sunday nights, but breakfast was delicious. As we were newly engaged, Joyce upgraded our room, which included a very nice master bath with claw-foot tub. (which we used!)

We stayed for just one night, but wished we could have stayed longer. Relaxing is an understatement.

Extremely beautiful B&B: inside as well as outside. Blackwell B & B is an incredible residence, impeccably decorated and maintained. There are lovely sitting areas in which guests are invited to relax and enjoy an abundance of reading materials. Tea and homemade shortbread cookies in our room was a treat. Breakfast was fantastic. Our host, Joyce provided some great suggestions on places to visit (eg., Armagh) in the area.

Can't Wait to Return!

Joyce could not have been more accommodating and lovely. The dinner was fantastic and the Ulster breakfast was perfect! While I was working in my room before dinner, I fully expected Joyce to call my name form the bottom of the steps like my mother used to do. I had high expectations and was not disappointed. The only problem was I couldn't stay longer!

Stunning in every detail!

We had an absolutely lovely stay ! Our Hist Joyce was wonderful and had good information on things to do,places to see in the area as well as Belfast. This was a 5 Star + B&B The decor and rooms were exquisite,comfortable and attention to detail was incredible! And where do I start with the breakfast!!??
She has a lovely menu with several selections to choose from,starting with fresh juices,fruit,cereals tea and coffee. The main entrees are well presented and delicious! This is a fantastic spot to stay especially after visiting the Mourne Mountains before spending time in Belfast.It is so conveniently located. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay- a real delight!

5 star experience

It is rare to find an establishment with so many excellent and accurate five star reviews.I can testify that they are all correct. Blackwell house recently won an award as the best Guest house in Northern Ireland, and it is well deserved. I had the pleasure to spend one night in \"Lily's room\", but would have happily stayed the weekend. The service is five star from the welcome at the door to the excellent \"Ulster fry\" for breakfast the following morning, which is only one of the many tasty options. The rooms are tastefully decorated and I guarantee one of the most peaceful nights sleep you will ever have. Excellently priced and within 30 mins drive of Belfast, I would recommend to anyone considering the four and five star hotels in the city to consider Blackwell house first.
