Reviewing for a group of 3. We stayed in the family room for 1 night while visiting the nearby glow worm caves. We had a great stay. Only about 10 minutes from the caves. The property is situated on a hill, and the patio right outside our room had spectacular views of the surrounding region/mountains. Room was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet at night. Bathroom was spacious as well. Small kitchenette had a few items as well including electric kettle, tea, coffee. Complementary breakfast was continental and definitely a plus; had everything we needed for a long day. Was nice to meet the owner Trevor as well as his dogs who can be seen around the property. Would stay here again.

This was a great little place to stay for a few nights while working our way towards Auckland at the end of our holiday! Beautiful view, nice and casual breakfast, and our host was available and helpful. The venue was away from the highway, but close enough to get traffic noise, but that was not a big deal.

I got stuck because of a road closure, and this darling little spot was an absolute answer to prayer! The surroundings were stunning, the location so quiet and peaceful, and there were lots of little touches that made it feel so homey. I will definitely be coming back to stay again!

It was a little confusing finding the entrance to the property and finding our room. Keys and room numbers were in envelopes marked with customers names and taped to a window. Our room was small but clean and adequate. More hooks and/or hanging space would be helpful. With fewer decorative items around, the room would be more functional and more comfortable. The setting was beautiful with lovely views looking out over the countryside.

I book lots of rooms on hotels.com
This is the first time I have ever accidentally vooked a room without an en-suite. I think the website could be much clearer in stating that over half of the rooms do no have an en suite.
There are seven rooms…not four as stated in hotels.com. Four have a shared bathroom.
The place is very clean and very well managed.

If you like B&Bs, this is a nice one. It was super clean. The owner was friendly. A continental breakfast was included. The location was super convenient as it was only about fifteen minutes from the Waitomo Caves - which are best seen early in the morning before the crowds get there.

We understand the perspectives of some of the review. We wish Expedia had a real 1-10 rating as we would have rated the room 7/10. Instead, it is a rating of 1-5 and then doubled, perhaps not a true representation.

Pros: Property was pretty. The cat was also a plus. Room was fine and clean. Not having someone to communicate with upon arrival did not bother us. My husband spoke with the owner and he was really nice and personable.

Cons: The Honeymoon Suite is connected to the main house by a door. Unfortunately, you can hear every conversation, door close, dog bark, fridge opening, etc. We really did not feel as though we had our own room, we felt more like we were intruding in the owners personal space. There was not even a hallway separating, just a door. We whispered the entire time to not disturb anyone.

Additionally, we smelled urine in the room and noticed a waterproof mattress pad. Understandably, if someone had an accident in the bed, it makes sense to want to protect it. However, the smell continued, and waterproof mattress pads are very hot to sleep on.

Reviewers complained about the lack of food at breakfast, but it didn't bother us. There is bread/toast and cereal. The cereal was stale, though. Maybe that should be replaced a little more often. There was cream cheese, but nothing to accompany - maybe some bagels?

Interested parties should just do their research to ensure they know what they are booking. Room 6 looked secluded & private.

This is a nice room BUT there is a big proviso - you will be sharing a bathroom with many other people. In our view, this fact should be prominent on the listing and not require the prospective customer to have to go through reviews, etc. to see this. There are many people for whom this is not a problem but conversely there are people like us who are simply not interested in a sharing bathroom. Other than that, the host is very friendly, the location is nice (a bit of road noise), and the room, while small, is comfortable.

It was a very different bed and breakfast experience. Did not ever meet or talk to the host. Instructions were wrote on a board as we came in. Room was big and clean. Nice views of the countryside. Continental breakfast at anytime. The hot tub was awesome.
Only downside was we needed to carry our bags to the furthest room in the rain and right next to a highway so traffic noise all night

If I ever booked something like their “Honeymoon Suite” again, I’m sure my wife would divorce me. Where to start? Worn 80’s decor, threadbare but hard small bath towels, the shower mat was wet when we arrived, no place for suitcases but the floor, carpet worn through in places, a shared hot tub just off the little “private” patio, another unit’s patio 3 ft from the bathroom window, endless highway traffic noise - I kept checking that the window was indeed closed - still busy at 2:30 am, but down to a car every minute or so at 3:30 am, no one to greet you on arrival, loud voices through the lightweight door into the main house (which we weren’t to use), must drag suitcases across grass to get to the room, it was wet in the a.m. and my suitcase shed grass clippings into the car and every subsequent hotel room for days. Now we are swearing off any and all B&Bs in the future. Close to Waitomo, but not worth it 😡

Arm’s-length owner who has an ice cream / cafe place a few km’s down the road that is his primary biz. Rooms were small, barely enough to open a suitcase on the floor. Thin walls. Beautiful property, especially in December as the flowers were in full bloom and the smell was heavenly. The rooms are not fancy, but beds were comfortable and overall had everything we needed. Continental breakfast offered a nice selection of breads, cereal and fresh fruit. Trevor was a great host. Only thing is the road getting in is somewhat narrow, I would recommend getting there before dark!!

This is a self serve property as you do not get to meet any staff during your stay. Our room was okay and had it's own bathroom, but read the details carefully before booking as several rooms share a bathroom and we came across guests not happy with that arrangement. Walls are thin so you can clearly hear neighboring rooms. Nice location but also close to busy road.

A lovely setting and a nice, friendly house manager. However, a very odd set up. The honeymoon suite is getting pretty worn, with some stained carpeting and towels that were very rough and frayed, quite obviously in need of replacement. But more odd is the fact that the room has a door to an adjoining living room where (I’m guessing?) the people that own or manage the property stay. They were never noisy or inconsiderate, but it’s just an odd feeling for a honeymoon suite to have a connecting door to someone’s living quarters. It creates a distinct lack of a sense of privacy, and really should be walled off for a better division. Not that anyone was listening, but felt like we had to whisper anytime we were in the room so as not to have our conversation or other activities heard. Not a bad place, and again, a very nice location, but a few things that really detract from the overall experience.

Upon arrival, I saw my name and room number on a blackboard. Would have liked a sign to say that we don't need to see anyone to check in, but could go directly, unannounced and unchecked (apart from acknowledgement from a super friendly Labrador, although I think that was due more to the residual smell from a chicken sandwich) to our rooms. Nice and quiet. Liked the firm bed. Good water pressure and warmth from the shower, though bathroom hand basin is in an odd place - in an alcove off the hallway, so if you're brushing your teeth, you're open to view by people who wander past or you have them walk right behind you if they want to use the rest room or have a shower in the actual bathroom. Can't comment on breakfast as I had to get one the road early.

I wish i spent longer at this beautiful estate. The host was very friendly and made sure my stay was comfortable. I found myself feeling very peaceful and relaxed during my time there and would love to go back again soon! All facilities were clean and organized with a homey feel to the space. Everything you may need is provided for you and if you forgot anything, just ask, they are very accommodating! Jack and Flynn made my stay even better with their welcoming tail wags and meows and extra cuddly cuddles. 11/10, felt right at home and wished i could have stayed longer. I recommend you go if you have the chance to!
