My booking got cancelled by the hotel, neither they nor x-peed-I-a could inform me in time to make alternative arrangements. If the failure is with the agent then they need to improve their systems. If the fault lies with the hotel, and they repeat the failure, then their services shouldn’t be offered.

This is my 7th time staying at the Slipway and it doesn’t disappoint. I do miss the supermarket that used to be located downstairs. I love the ocean views, sunsets, breakfast, and convenient access to shops and souvenirs. The restaurants - especially aroma Zanzibar and Thai Cano are delicious and the juice bar is an excellent touch. The Lido lounge and padel courts were a fun addition this year. I also enjoy the spa each time we come. Thank you to the consistent and wonderful staff. Asante!

Great place to stay. Beautiful atmosphere. Plenty to do.
But I had a VERY BIG issue checking in. When checking in hotel did not have booking from Expedia. I showed proof of booking and gave me room for 1st night. But said they were full second night, so I had to talk to Expedia about it because I did not want to be without room second night. But was told to just wait. It ended up working out and hotel let me stay in room both nights. But having the extra stress was unfair to me .

This was my second time at this facility. A mid-week stay was mostly quiet and the staff is great. But the rooms are getting a little dated and 2 1/2 days of no wifi was a big challenge. If my home plan did not have unlited data, I would have had a very difficult time traveling.

This hotel in a colonial style typical of East Africa was just a gem. We were given a nice room, large enough and with all we could wish for. The staff as all Tanzanians were just the friendliest and most helpful, going out of their way to make our stay a delay. We felt cared for and appreciated. When we go back to Tanzania we will go back to Slipway. The area of the hotel offered everything the heart would enjoy on a vacation: Nice walks, good restaurants, little gift shops, clothing shops, cafes etc. Assante.

I really enjoyed my stay. I booked it specifically for its location (Sunset, restaurants/bars by the ocean) and I was not disappointed. It's true there is music outside at night but with the AC on, I couldn't hear anything so it's not very high. Breakfast was OK. People were welcoming and accommodating. I’ve stayed in this hotel a few times and it’s usually reliable. This time however it was not and I had to move rooms several times due to various maintenance issues. Despite a recent renovation one of the buildings needs another round of repairs. The staff were helpful when I brought the issues to their attention but there doesn’t seem to be any senior management presence. The breakfast also badly needs an update. All rooms should have mosquito nets too.

I stayed in the standard room and the executive room with ocean view.

Pros: Convenient location with restaurants, bars, and juice/coffee/tea shops. Live bands at the restaurants at night. The standard room was recently renovated.

Cons: Wifi was spotty in the standard room. The air conditioner was installed at an odd spot, the closet was blocking most of the cold air coming out of it. The shower was not properly sealed, water leaked through the gaps. The sofa and the cushions were old and smelly, like they were never washed/cleaned. Both rooms were not ready past the check in time.

If you like quiet this isn’t the place for you. The restaurants outside the hotel plays music all day every day and shops and restaurants are busy with tourists and locals well into the wee hours. If someone is singing live then it will be extremely loud in the seaside rooms. When I checked in my room it had a strong urine smell. The carpet needs to be taken up and shouldn’t even be in hotel rooms on the beach. Nice atmosphere to be in overall but the older side of the hotel is very run down. There is a completely different section of rooms by the Hotel reception side which is a lot better and more quiet. The staff is very nice. Breakfast needs improvement.

Fantastic location, wonderful staff (shoutout to Freddy!) and wonderful amenities. I cannot say enough good things about the accommodations and staff at Slipway. Courteous, friendly and thoughtful. They assisted me at the bank across the courtyard, provided restaurant suggestions and arranged private transport and accompaniment for me to do some market shopping in the city. Unfortunately I did not get to enjoy all this property had to offer due to a late check in and VERY early departure. However, the staff was extraordinary and made sure my short stay was superb. They prepared a to-go breakfast for me due to said early departure which was extremely appreciated. All facilities were in excellent working order and I was grateful for the free bottled water. My only complaint was that there wasn’t a trashcan in the room so I had to leave all trash on the bathroom counter which wasn’t ideal. I was a bit worried that the nightlife would keep me away due to where the hotel is located but this wasn’t an issue. Would definitely recommend this place!

The hotel has good exterior and good service, however the room we got does not have shower room safety. The shampoo and the shower gel are placed outside the shower room and you have to walk on the slippery floor to get them, In addition there is no shower curtain on the shower room so the splashes all the way below the door and into under the bed you have to call house keeping after shower to dry it. Then the overall final finish of the surface is still rough, on the sink, am sure with a good management they can do better.

We actually enjoyed our stay at this property. It was our experience after we left that has completely ruined the experience we had. I booked for 1 night, but once I arrived after asking for a later checkout the staff member told me you booked for 2 nights. I informed the staff member that I only booked for 1 night. But he insisted it was for 2 nights. We filled a registration form out based on their guidance. A day later they contacted us via WhatsApp and informed us that we stayed longer than we should have, we have charges that need to be paid. I told them exactly what happened but they continued to make me feel like I was the one who stole something from them. I asked them to take accountability for an error they made, but they completely denied everything. If we were supposed to checkout after 1 night, why didn’t anyone come to check why we didn’t check out at the checkout time after the 1st night? The staff member who messaged me used language to belittle me and what I was saying, they would not answer any of the questions I asked and they would not send me the reservation saying that it was for 2 nights from the night I checked in. I did not deny the reservation I made, I am more than willing to pay, but making your customer feel like they had bad intentions is a horrible horrible form of service. An Expedia agent agreed that the hotel made the mistake and that it was only based on their advice that we stayed. The hotel is beautiful, but be careful with the staff.

The Hotel was very nice and has lots of shops and restuarants around it. These are very public and are not exclusively for guests. I was a little fooled by the photos as i thought it was a hotel with a beach. Not so. It is on the water edge but no beach swimming or bathing. The hotel has a nice swimming pool for guests and breakfast is taken in a nice setting. Choice of food for breakfast could be more but it was not bad at all. Rooms were very nice and quiet but not so scenic. Overall we were happy but the hotel is not situated such that it could be called a holiday destination

The location is the main positive point. The area is very clean and has several small shops and a few restaurants/bars/coffee places. All right at the sea however without really a beach that one can use. I booked an Executive room and would have expected to have at least a reasonable sized desk with real chair to work. Unfortunately the room does not provide that, therefore no clue why they call it Executive. Internet is ok and reasonably fast. There is a small balcony and rooms from level 2 and up have sea view. All is a bit dated, I had to smash my door to really close it. Several power outages during the night. Pool area is nice however not a lot of chairs and shade. Gym has sea view but small and A/C off, just windows open. That means a lot of sweating. Breakfast is ok but the selection a bit limited. The most I liked was the proximity to the bars and that you can be back to the room within a few steps.

An Oasis in the City

Between the hotel, the surrounding shops & restaurants, as well as the ocean views, the Hotel Slipway is my go-to destination whenever I have a day or two passing through Dar. Sea view rooms in the new building come with balconies that are perfect for working or a little people watching. An afternoon by the pool is a great way to rest up before a long flight at night.

Great Location and Great view. The hotel room with an ocean view is quite nice. Although is not very spacious it is more than enough for the time you will probably spend there. Things work in general quite fine. Nice bed and pillows, A/C, internet connection was much better than many other hotels I've tried in Dar. Also, because of its location, you have access to many other restaurants, shops and things to do/see within a very short distance.

The hotel is dated. During CV19 would have been a good time to start a major overhaul of the facility.
The carpet made the whole room smell bad. I was denied the simple use of a iron. The receptionist had a terrible attitude. I was charged $10 for a replacement key after misplacing mine. The parking is not free as there is a person that changes you something every time you leave.
The place is definitely NOT a four or five star hotel. It reminds me of somewhere my college class mates and I may rent during spring break. Maybe years ago it was in better condition but not anymore.

Everything was ok, reception very helpful, was not please with breakfast. Very misleading. The hostess asked what would I'd like to eat, I replied the stack attack which advertised a few stacks of Pancakes with Bacon, I was welcomed with 4 crepes and not even a full piece of bacon, I asked the hostess what is this, she replied what I ordered, I then asked if I could have more bacon, she replied you want more bacon? So I was rather frustrated with breakfast.

THE HOTAL WAS BEAUTIFUL, THE FRONT DESK STAFF WAS WONDERFUL, BUT THE HOTEL SHUTTLE SERVICE LET ME DOWN. ON MY ARRIVAL THE SHUTTLE DRIVER WENT TO THE WRONG AIRPORT. ON MY DEPARTURE HE DIDN'T SHOW UP AND I ALMOST MISSED MY FLIGHT HOME. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT THE FRONT DESK MADE ME WAIT A HALF HOUR BEFORE GETTING ME A CAB TO THE AIRPORT.

Excellent location and hotel is nice and somos the food hut seems like they have not done a good job in upkeep of the building which is relatively new. Also some rooms at the end of the hallway are far from the wireless router and service can be spotty. Flip side is that there are fantastic restaurants footsteps away, a supermarket, and a pier that has boat tours of the area and sunset cruises. I would definitely stay here again I would just hope they would step up the room upkeep and modernize some of the furnishings oh and the TV Options are horrible but perhaps the sunset views make up for it.

The locality should be prime but appears run down with empty shops around and dirty waterfront area. Hotel was fine except if you want quietness need to go higher than the first floor as the restaurants outside do create noise with children running around and shouting. The terrace restaurant provide good food which was lovely to see.

Slipway is a really nice location, central to many things, and has plenty options on offer. So you dont feel stuck in a hotel but can enjoy different atmospheres and places.
Hotel room is nice, quiet even if there are restaurants below it (I had the sea view, a must!)

This was not my first visit to Hotel Slipway, it's a great place to stay away from the crowded busy-ness of Dar, located on the peninsula. It's worth it to get a sea view room, although the other rooms are pleasant. The breakfast buffet is exceptional and the staff very helpful. There is a spa, shops with local crafts, a Thai-Japanese restaurant, and other nice shops in the shopping centre part of the complex. It's a popular evening spot for residents as well, giving a nice local feeling

The Slipway Hotel is in a great location right on the water. I love the Terrace and its excellent breakfast. It also has very friendly staff. The hotel definitely needs updating but I think that is more or less priced in. I’ve stayed at hotel next door but highly prefer Slipway.

Comfortable hotel in the heart of the Slipway

What’s not to like? Large, comfortable, nicely designed rooms with a beautiful pool, overlooking Msasani bay, with great restaurants, shops, bars and a craft market all in the same complex. It’s easy to get around the area, and even out to the islands from the pier. The breakfasts are delicious, the staff charming, and it was a really great stay for the whole family.

Nice room with a balcony and view over the ocean, and convenient to have the slipway cafes, restaurants and supermarket.
My only complaint is that the live music on my final night resulted in heavy bass resonating through the building until midnight. The live music is fine, just turn down the bass!

The staff were great . I arrived at 5.30 am and they gave me an early check-in at no charge . They then upgraded my room later in the day for the whole stay . The staff are friendly and helpful and I will definitely be back. The area around there is one of the best for restaurants and bars.

Beautiful sunsets

This is my second time staying at slipway. The hotel staff are so welcoming and kind, the facilities are excellent, and the hotel has everything you could possibly need- 4 restaurants, pool, gym, a number of small shops, supermarket, pharmacy, etc... Internet is spotty, but that’s to be expected anywhere you stay in Dar. It works very well in the restaurants and by the pool, but in the rooms I could only get a signal next to the bathroom and on the balcony (which was fine with me, as the seaview is excellent). The sunsets over the bay are always the highlight of my stay at slipway!
