Management needs to have a serious look into house keeping. I have complained a dozen times about these ladies who will come to the room for whatever reason to either spray for mosquitoes or bring something and they will knock once, twice and suddenly you see someone opening the door and she is inside the room. NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL.
It has happen to me several times and I have complained many times to management but this hasn’t changed.
Now I have made a decision to change the hotel and go else where every-time I visit Dar es salaam.

Very happy. Receptionist Ms. Deborah was pleasant, caring and helpful. Always smiling.
Thanks also to GM Mr.Suman Kumar who allowed extra hours for check out as my return flight to Nairobi was delayed. Lovely and cozy restaurant. Nice place to stay, plenty of space to take a walk. Spacious rooms with amenities. Overall excellent.

Old property and things are falling apart. Needs major renovation, food is not good at all. The food quality is very low and one surprising thing is breakfast room service is 25,000 shillings, it means if you decide to have breakfast in your room they will a charge you room service 25,000($12). I find this ridiculous especially if you look at the food they serve.

Large comfortable room, excellent air conditioning and great staff. Has a nice (small) pool and gym.
Breakfast was good, with a lot of choice.
Overall, good value for money. Will come back again.

Our family was on a business trip with children along. The apartment was spacious but out of date, especially the bathroom. The staff were responsive to any issues and made a major service recovery effort after we raised on issue. Good assortment of food and very good location.

Nice place to stay in Dar

Stayed for a couple nights with friends. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was wonderful. Overall I enjoyed the stay but our AC unit wasn’t working properly and the shower door wasn’t sealed tight so water easily leaked all over the bathroom floor.

Met by a huge cockroach skirting across the wall--we killed it. They came (we did not call them) and sprayed and no further issues. Lovely people. Shower leaked--they gave us extra towels. Facility is not new! We liked all the food we ate in the restaurant, especially appreciate the healthy avocado toast offered for breakfast.

Very practical, functional place to stay. Good sized room with even a small kitchen. Hot water never worked despite a visit from a mechanic. Very friendly staff. Room overlooked parking lot - not scenic - but there's a nice pool area. Very good breakfast; ok dinner. If you want a more scenic, charming Protea, choose the Protea Courtyard, which is a few km away.

The manager George was very helpful in sorting out the issues. The rooms are defiantly dated. The restaurant food is below average and service by restaurant staff is sub par, especially in the evening and into the night(dinner) service.

Protea Oyster Bay was a really great place to stay, and I will definitely stay there next time I am in Dar. When I first saw the photos of the hotel online I wasn't optimistic about the place, but my company had booked it so I thought it would be fine for a few nights. But as soon as I arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. Staff in reception area was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Room was exceptionally neat and clean, bed and pillows very comfortable. Nice and quiet in the room at night, super safe environment. AC worked great. Restaurant is comfortable in the mornings with good breakfast (Nutella and crepes - yay!). I also ordered food from room service, and it arrived quickly and was delicious (changu & chips). Super fast and reliable wifi in the room. Convenient to have a small kitchenette so I didn't have to eat every meal out and could keep snacks and beverages. Even got in a swim at the pool, which was also chill and comfy.

I had a small issue with clogged shower head and they replaced it immediately. I had to travel up country for a few days, and they happily held some of my luggage and valuables for me. Throughout it all, every member of the staff was understanding and friendly. The whole experience was great.

Alternate for a business trip

Business nessitates trips to Dar es Salaam now and then (about once a month). My wife travels with me just to get a change of scenery. This was our first time to stay at this Protea. But we shall return. The courtyard atmosphere was nice. We felt like we were in an island surrounded by the city. The staff were great, even giving us an upgrade. We found balconies to no be attached to all units as advertised.

The wifi on the hotel is bot really the \"High Speed Internet\" advertised, it was close to useless for extended periods of time, too slow to even use for a simple Skype-connection (voice only).

I almost never write reviews, but I will this time because I am so grateful to the hotel manager and staff who helped get me to a clinic when I was suffering from food poisoning (not from the hotel food, needless to say!). I was really impressed by the fact the manager took an interest in a stray, lone female guest being ill. He virtually frogmarched me to a very good clinic he knew of, despite my protestations that I would recover with a bit of rest and water. A few hours and pills later, I was much recovered - significantly faster than my own method!

I had chosen Protea Oyster Bay as they have a bigger swimming pool than some and I was desperate for a swim after some heavy land travel for work in previous weeks... in the end I didn't get near the swimming pool but was still grateful for my choice. The food is good, studio/queen rooms are very comfortable - and easier to navigate than the loft rooms which have quite steep stairs.
