Sea view is absolutely stunning and private beach is great. My wife and I would walk to to the main beach for meals but would stay on the private beach. Staff are great. Breakfast is made to order and they will provide anything you would want. From what we saw I would say that it one of the better locations to stay.

It is a small hotel with very friendly staff. The food is great. All requests are addresses within minutes.
I would definitely recommend to book a room with the view. It is right over the small private beach and all you can see and hear is the ocean...

Lovely for a holiday by the sea

It’s a really lovely, very clean property. The staff is lovely and the manager went above and beyond to help us find a room at another hotel when we wanted to extend but were not able to stay at La Veranda because it was booked solid. The breakfast patio opens up to a private beach. We stayed in the “basic” room, which didn’t have a sea view (we knew ahead of time) but as it was partially underground it was a very cool retreat from the very hot sun. WiFi was excellent in our room, only thing I would change it a slightly larger sheet as the one provided was a bit small for two to share. Im sure if we had asked the staff would have provided either a second sheet or a larger sheet, but it wasn’t much of a problem so we didn’t say anything. :) A perfect little getaway spot. We look forward to staying again.

Amazing Views

Nice small family hotel at the end of the beach. It’s a bit away from the main beach area, but that was a positive for me. There is a small private beach in front of the hotel. Only 3-5 people I saw at any given time. The outdoor breakfast area is fantastic. It’s shaded by large palm trees overlooking the ocean with amazing sunsets. I had a sea view room. Only heard the street noise if someone honked their horn because the sound of the waves was louder than the street :). Do note that Mother Nature doesn’t observe nighttime quiet hours and the crashing waves were very loud at night. Amazing staff, very kind, service with a smile everyday. The room is tiny for the price, but neat and has traditional British colonial decor. WiFi was spotty, but that is common in Sri Lanka. 4 stars because there was a power outage for several hours. Totally, understand that things happen (I experienced outages at multiple hotels) but the owners should have the generator and gas ready to go for these instances vs. having to procure needed items during an outage. Yes, I would stay again.

The hotel was amazing, very comfortable, great view from the verandah of the sunsets. Right on the beach which was safe to swim and turtles to be seen swimming by. The breakfast was also great and the staff eager to please even helped negotiate a great fare with the Tuk Turks. Lots of good restaurants to walk to.

Before we even arrived, the owner of this hotel had not only secured us transportation from the airport, but confirmed my specific room requests and let us know he could coordinate our tours and interests during our stay. Upon arrival, we received welcome tropical drinks and were provided with dinner options. Each morning we woke up to an amazing breakfast served right by the beach. The location happens to be along a private rocky beach where you can snorkel and watch the sea turtles who come in along the rocks daily.
Anything we needed, the staff were willing to help us locate both in the local area and throughout the country. The owner set up a safari tour for us, visit to the turtle conservation hatchery, whale watching...the list goes on.
This is a small hotel tucked into a fantastic area with the most attentive and friendly staff I've ever experienced in our travels. We would stay no where else in Sri Lanka. Hands down one of the best vacation stays we've had. A real hidden gem.

Loved waking up to the sea view

Had a lovely stay in this place. It has its private beach and its 5min away from the main beacj where you find a lot of restaurants. You get to wake up and eat your breakfast with the sea view. The staff is very friendly and the food in the hotel is nice. Had an amazing time.

Location was nice but the hotel beach was very small. The hotel itself seemed a little tired and in need of some polishing and updating. The penthouse apartment was a fantastic layout. The faucet in our shower was broken and would not allow cold water, luckily there were 2 showers in the apartment.

The hotel is situated on the bank of Indian ocean. Never book for jungle view side. This is not okay to stay. Huge sound of vehicles from the adjacent road discomfort you.

On the Beach - pretty well in the sea!

A very friendly small hotel located with the sea lapping at its front. Not a good beach for swimming immediately in front - you need to go 60m along the road to get a good swimming beach or a bit further to get a real broad swathe of sand.
The hotel is, however, out of hearing of the noisy sections of Uwatuna beach - you are guaranteed a good night's sleep.
The hotel is small, but the owner and his staff give impeccable service - nothing is too much trouble.

Friendly hotel...

It is a quiet and very friendly hotel on the beach...there was not many guests,so you can enjoy your holiday in peace...Also the hotel is on the beach,so you do not need to go far if you want to swim. There is long beach side just in 2mins from the hotel, in 5mins there is a road with lots of restaurants,shops.
The hotel can offer lots of activities to see the best parts of Sri Lanka.

Incredible view, exceptional hotel

Owner Mr Chananda is amazing in his hospitality. The hotel has incredible ocean view second to none. Staff is extremely accommodating. Maybe the only minus is pretty poor infrastructure around. Room was comfortable with well working A/C, safe. Nice balcony lets sitting all days and nights in private. Breakfast are sufficient and tasty. We enjoyed the stay very much.

Great hotel with great views and friendly staff

When we arrived the owner advised us that the room we booked was not available but we would stay in the apartment at the top of the building for the first night. He then offered us the apartment for the rest of our stay and after some negotiation on the additional cost we agreed to stay there. The apartment is very spacious and there is a four poster bed in the bedroom. The ensuite bathroom has a great view out to sea.
The owner and the staff were very friendly. The free breakfast was excellent, choice of eggs (fried, scrambled or omelettes), toast and a plate of fresh fruit each plus a fresh juice drink plus coffee or tea.
We sat on the sun loungers on the beach in front of the hotel. There are a lot of rocks and as the tide came in mid-afternoon it was quite difficult to go in the sea for a swim due to the force of the waves.
There are some very good restaurants within 750m including Bedspace, Black and white on Unawatuna beach, and Sea and Sun about 2 minutes from our hotel. Beware of walking along the main road as it is darkly lit and the bus drivers are crazy overtaking the tuk-tuks!! Take a tuk-tuk to Fort Galle. Nice place to walk around with nice cafes, restaurants and shops. We liked the Old Dutch Hospital which has been modernised and has lots of nice eateries and shops.
Would definitely go there again

Best spot on the beach!

This was an amazing stay, right on the beach!

The room was very nice and clean, with a big bathroom.

Breakfast was really good too, and they made it to order and you eat right there on the beach.

I woke up this morning and saw turtles in the ocean about 5 meters from the beach, and the view from this property is just amazing on all sides.

A short walk (maybe 15 mins) to the lively part of the beach, but it's nice to stay on the quieter part so all you hear at night is the waves crashing on the shore.

The owner is very helpful and will arrange transportation around town or to other areas of Sri Lanka, and the staff is very helpful and pleasant to deal with too.

Would not stay here again

Very disappointed with this property. It said free wifi however it was only in the common areas not in the booked rooms. It was right on the beach which was fabulous however our windows were shutters so if these were closed there was no view of the sea, windows would be much better. Overall it was a diappointment.

Book now before you miss out!

I can highly recommend staying here as I was treated so well it was fantastic! The owner sat and had a few beers with me on both nights taking time out from his busy life to have a chat - this kind of service is so much more than you would normally get. He also advised me on how to carry on with my trip around Sri Lanka and helped me book the transport from MY contacts. If you can afford it, then take the suite with its fantastic views. If not, then just book here and enjoy the private beach and fantastic service/company! Loved it! Thank you so much!

Lovely Family Run Boutique Hotel

I stayed at La Veranda Di Serena for six nights in September 2015. It was an awesome experience due to the comfort and cleanliness of the room, the location of the hotel (right on on the beach) and the attentiveness of staff. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. The balcony for my room had a spectucular view of the sea. The owner lives on site with is invested in making one's stay is a very positive experience. If I am in Sri Lanka again I will be sure to stay at La Veranda Di Serena and will recommend it to anyone that is going the area.

Von dem, was ich gesehen habe, mit das Beste in Unawatuna. Wir haben uns für den Ort entschieden, da wir tauchen wollten. Vom Ort an sich und vom Strand war ich eher enttäuscht! kein schöner Strand und schon ultra touristisch... Das Hotel hat es aber rausgerissen, da wir total toll empfangen wurden, jeden Morgen ein fantastisches Frühstück gehabt und auch bei Bestellung das Abendessen war viel, viel besser als die Restaurants am Strand. Man kann direkt am Hotel ins Meer, ist jedoch nicht ideal und nicht kindergeeignet. Ansonsten haben wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt, das Zimmer war top und man schläft quasi direkt über dem Meer.

Mysiga rum(om än ngt hårda sängar för min del). Fantastiskt att sitta ute med havsutsikten och äta frukosten som var god(kontinental). Hotellet har en liten strandplätt, men för de som vill ha större så fanns unawatuna beach bara ca.5min promenad bort. Havssköldpaddorna simmade runt i vattnet alldeles utanför hotellet(boka rum med havsutsikt för bästa vy).
Vi kan gott rekommendera detta ställe.

지저분한 시설과 관리

해변 바로 옆이라 파도소리에 너무 시끄럽고, 침대 담요가 너무 낡고 냄새가 나는 등 가격대비 최하 등급의 곳이라 너무 억망이라는 느낌을 지울 수 없었다. 정말 개선할 것이 너무 많은 곳이다. 오직 아침식사는 괜찮았다.

Kotoisa majoitus pienessä hotellissa.

Meillä oli todella suuri ylimmän kerroksen huoneisto 6 huoneen pienessä hotellissa.
Mahtavat näköalat Intian valtamereen, sillä hotelli sijaitsee aivan rannalla. Ikkunoista saatoimme bongata aamuisin merikilpikonnien uiskentelua.
Hotelli on yksi talo ja sillä on pieni piha-alue ja pikkuinen ranta-alue. Tosin viereen rakennetaan yksityistaloa, jonka edessä ranta sijaitsee.
Ystävällinen palvelu ja aamiainen tehdään toiveiden mukaan ja tarjoillaan pöytään.
Kuljetuksia ja retkiä järjestetään pyynnöstä. Me kävimme onnistuneella privaattireissulla Yala-safarilla hotellin kautta.
Liikenne on kaoottista heti hotellin portista astuessa, suosittelen Tuk-tukin nappaamista lyhyillekin matkoille.

Un peu excentré, simple mais très sympa

Il a fallu ajouter 15$ par jour pour changer de chambre, celle donnant sur l'arrière rend carrément claustrophobe ! Celle donnant sur la plage est moins exigue et assez magique. Voir la mer quand on ouvre sa fenêtre, ça n'a pas de prix! Etablissement en travaux, sera sûrement au top bientôt. En attendant, parfait car un peu excentré mais facile à trouver. Le réceptionniste était aux petits soins, le petit dej délicieux, et des gens nettoient toute la journée les parties communes. Le directeur est aussi toujours prêt à vous conseiller ou vous rendre service. Un bel endroit qui me manque déjà malgré la première impression flippante donnée par la petite chambre initiale. La clim fonctionne (limite trop!) mais l'eau chaude, pas toujours! Cela n'a rien de grave au vu du climat, on s'en est à peine rendus compte. Allez-y de ma part ! ;)

Bra for backpackere, ikke fult så bra for de som liker litt luksus eller estetikk. Rommene og hele hotellet skriker etter renovering, alt faller fra hverandre og det er invadert av maur og fluer. Bra utsikt fra havsiden, mye trafikk og eksos på motsatt side. Behagelig service.

Schönes Hotel direkt am Meer. Kleiner Hoteleigener Zugang zum Meer, auf Grund der vielen großen Steine etwas gefährlich zum Baden, aber der Strand Unawatuna ist gleich nebenan. Frühstück gut, Angestellte sehr freundlich, Zimmer sauber.

Flott hotell rett på stranden, som ligger avskjermet fra selve Unawatuna stranden og alle hotellene/restaurantene. (Tar kun et par min å gå bort til.) Sørg for å få et rom med havutsikt, vi fikk et med hageutsik, men var ikke noe problem å få byttet da det var utenom sesong.

Personalet er veldig hjelpsomme og hyggelige. Til frokost kan du velge mellom tradisjonell Sri lankisk frokost eller det du vil ha. Den er god! :)

Om morgenen kom havskilpadder inn på stranden mens vi satt og spist frokost :))
