Our stay at Hotel Tortuguero Beachfront was completely unacceptable, and the lack of customer service made it worse. We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights and requested multiple times prior to arrival that they be together due to my son in one room and my husband and I in another. They weren’t. We waited 45+ minutes at check-in while staff tried to fix it—well past check-in time.

The first room had a leaking AC that soaked our belongings while we were out. No apology. We were moved, but the new room had no hot water for 2 nights. We reported it immediately—nothing was fixed despite being told otherwise.

We asked to check out early and be refunded for the unused night—denied. We requested a manager daily and were told he wasn’t available. No follow-up.

The property itself was a mess: loud dogs at 5 AM, staff children running unsupervised, broken fixtures, empty food trays, long waits, no “Do Not Disturb” signs, paper-thin walls, and a non-working safe.

Staff said only the owner could help—but he never responded. Even after follow-ups post-stay, we were told nothing could be done “due to policy.”

Overpriced, filthy, and poorly managed. Avoid at all costs.

It is off the main street (only one street in Tortuguero) so very quiet. On the beach. Beautiful property and pool. Breakfast was good considering they had lost power. Walkable everywhere.

Great spot on the beach and centrally located in town. Room was small but very clean. Lots of storage space. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Pool area had lots of seating and shade. Lovely lush grounds.

My kids and I had a wonderful experience at Tortuguero Beachfront. The property is very clean and well maintained. The room was spacious. Beautiful gardens. Staff extremely courteous. The pool is small and we did not use it; but we enjoyed relaxing in the garden on the lounge chairs.

Very helpful and courteous staff. I was lost driving to the boating dock, and they called me several times to check my location and give directions. They even arranged for a boat late at night to get to the island.

It rained during the night. When we woke up in the morning we noticed that the clothes on the bed were wet. There was leak from the roof. Front desk person was not helpful at all and manager was not there.
Also bed was too high and mattress of very poor quality, it squeaked with every move, was not able to sleep at all.
The rate we paid for the hotel was very high compared to other hotels in the area and they were of better quality and service.

It was a beach front hotel so that was nice. However, swimming in the ocean is strictly prohibited due to the riptides. Our room had a ton of large ants on arrival. We notified the house cleaner as she was just next door. And although she promptly came in and swept them out, there was a ton when we returned later that day. Also to note, we where told that check in was after 2pm but the website said noon.

We stayed at Hotel Tortuguero beachfront for four nights - It was good. The free breakfast was really nice, it is right on the beachfront. and also walking distance from everywhere.
The AC in the rooms were much needed and the best. and on our last day the staff even packed us a nice breakfast for our trip back.

Room was by the pool so was noisy from the people using it late. Repairs were being undertaken on windows which was also noisy. Breakfast was poor, each day there was less to choose from and no clean glasses

Service was amazing. We had a person in our group with mobility issues. The personalized attention we received could not have been more helpful.
Breakfast was just lovely with fresh fruit, typical Gallo Pinto, made to order eggs and much more.
Rooms are basic (compared to US expectations), very clean.

Our room had some problems.

Staff were very helpful but neither the hairdryer nor the bedside lamp worked. Room was modest and small but clean, breakfast was adequate and air conditioning worked pretty well. Noisy neighbors were kept at bay by closing the bathroom door.

This is a beautiful place that is both on the beach and part of the village or Tortuguero, so you are immersed in the local life as well as the beautiful landscape. The staff are helpful, particularly if you can speak a bit of Spanish. Breakfasts are fantastic.

We had a lovely relaxing stay. Immaculately maintained gardens and cute pool area. The rooms and common areas were clean and comfortable. No tvs so you can relax but connected to strong WiFi should you need that. Access to beach walks and canal tours. Friendly staff helpful when you have questions. Lots of birds and wildlife come up to the property gardens, Pura vida.

We loved the friendly staff that encouraged us to try our Spanish. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Wifi was good. Showers were lukewarm. Tortuguero is a small village with 1500 people some dogs and no cars. Lots of small restaurants and hotels.The beds had dips on one side, but we slept on the other side and they were great.We used Exploradores for our transfer from San Jose. It included breakfast. A guide and the 90 minute boat ride to the village. Great service.

We didn't realize that we had to go online when we got there to buy a park entrance fee before we went on the upriver canoe ride. Then you have to rent boots to walk through the park in the afternoon. You need to wade through water the first 100 yards. Hadn't read this anywhere.

Rustic but comfy and beachfront

Having never been to Tortuguero, I didn’t know what to expect. It’s definitely a more rustic, eco-centered village so the hotel was on par with that, but it appeared to be one of the better options in the area. Our room had an ocean view, which was nice, and the beach along the hotel was very pretty. Beds were very comfortable, air conditioning worked well. Place was a little dated (no tv, but had wifi). Cook-to-order omelettes in the morning and good breakfast food. Appreciate the 24-hour coffee and cold water station. Also appreciate the tour guide greeting us at the water taxi and walking us back (<5 minutes from the dock) because we’d never find it on our own. (After that, it’s impossible to get lost there-the village is on one main strip.)

I liked this hotel, it was clean and comfortable. It is basically in the heart of town, so easy walking to restaurants, shopping, tours, etc. Fairly quiet other than the grounds keeping going on during our stay. I would say here again, but I think 2 days in the area is enough.

Great place.

As a family of 4, with two children age 5 snd 8, we loved this hotel. The place is spotless and the staff is caring and friendly. The breakfast is fresh and everything strictly home made. Maurizio in particular was excellent, friendly, helpful and he could not have done more to makes us feel at home. We had a little accident (my son stepped on a caterpillar and was stung) and they assisted us as if we were family. These things are important when you are in a remote place!! I would highly recommend this hotel! Pool was small but lovely and clean.

Tortuguero hotel with a/c.

Nice little hotel on the beach and few steps from the main strip of Tortuguero. It is one of the few places that offers a/c, though I think it is limited to a few rooms. It offers clean simple accommodation and free breakfast. It’s a fine place to lay your head for a few days as you tour Tortuguero!

We didn’t want to leave. The hotel was perfect. We were greeted with a welcome drink and even the parking staff knew us by name.

We parked in the off site parking lot and took a boat to the hotel (this is the only way to get there). We were then greeted by our guide who helped us book unforgettable tours of the gorgeous park. We saw more animals in one hour than I’ve ever seen at any zoo. The locals are very friendly and make you feel at home. If you get a chance to eat at Maria’s Caribbean food you won’t regret it. She has the best beans and rice in town. Kevin was definitely by far the best tour guide, he could spot even the smallest of animals and had a vast knowledge about them and tortuguereo. His wife runs a massage parlor with incredible and affordable massages. I’m not a big coffee drinker, but the coffee here is like drinking dark chocolate. We will definitely be coming back!

We were greeted upon arrival and escorted to the hotel from the dock, which was nice. The room was very small (not even enough room to walk around the bed. We picked this hotel largely because of the pool access, however, it was overrun with locals partying and so we couldn't enjoy it. They also notified us that they do not serve alcohol and there was rarely anyone at the front desk. The food was mediocre. (We ate instead at a place called The Patio, which had an excellent view over the river and had tasty food.) Once we checked in, we were pretty much on our own. It was very nice that it was beach front, though the string riptides prevent ocean swimming here. It certainly wasn't terrible, but for what we got, definitely overpriced. Had we known the pool access was to be limited, we would have stayed at a hotel without a pool and for much less.

This hotel is perfectly located on the beach, you can hear the ocean at night, they have hammocks to enjoy, and the service is amazing. They are really friendly and accommodating and it's right in town. The rooms are nice and clean w chairs outside and AC. We would stay again!

Overall good value at winter rates. But, we were unhappy with the original room assignment and they changed us the next day. Unfortunately, it was right next door to a room that was undergoing renovations and was noisy during the day starting at 7:30 am. Not much of a concierge excursion activity service. We tried fishing (expensive) and it was a bust.
