Stay away - No privacy - Doors cannot be locked

This was the first time I stayed at this particular hotel. Not going beat around the bush, here are negatives that are the reason for my ratings:

- WiFi might as well not be provided, its that bad. I travelled for work but I could not get any work done because the WiFi disconnects ever 5 seconds
- On the first day I asked for an Iron and it could not be provided because there were none left. Didn't bother me too much as I had some other clothes I could wear. On the second day I did get an iron but I was in the bathroom when a staff member knocked on my door. Instead of waiting, they actually just opened the door and walked in! I had to tell them to stay outside and then they closed the door and left. I have been travelling on business for years now and this has never happened! What is the point of even 'locking' the door if someone can just walk in?

I don't recommend anyone staying at this hotel

Everything was within walking distance and the main station is close by so getting anywhere by bus, tram or train is very easy

Great affordable option for Mainz.

The family room was great. I loved the two bedrooms. The shower was small but it was ok, there was a bit of mold, which I’ve come to get used to in Germany. I was so grateful for their awesome AC because it was very warm outside. It works well and it’s quiet. It is only in the main room though so we had to leave the doors open so the second room could cool down as well. The highlight was the breakfast, they had typical German choices but also warm scrambled eggs and bacon and a really cool machine the kids enjoyed using which made fresh pancakes. They also had Prosecco on the weekend which was nice to make a mimosa. The mattresses were firm but not uncomfortable and it seems that they have recently remodeled so the rooms are pretty and clean. My kids accidentally spilled something on the carpet and I grabbed some hotel towels to scrub it and the towel remained white which was nice to see. Parking was a bit difficult but it’s really close to the main train station, supermarkets, and a bank. The park across the street was nice to reach the river which was a nice 10-15 minute walk. The only problem was the part of the park immediately in front of the hotel had a lot of drifters and people drinking and sleeping on the playground equipment which made us avoid that part of the park.

Good location for railway station and city centre, unfortunately covered in scaffolding and builders started drilling at 7.30am!!! Room very basic & tired looking, safe didn’t work and although we were provided with a kettle, there was no water, tea/coffee, milk provided when we asked at reception, told our room rate didn’t include it, so be warned what we consider to be provided as standard in U.K. is certainly not in Germany.

The entire area around the hotel is under construction. Nearly impossible to navigate because roads are randomly closed, just one-way, reopened/closed again. Very confusing. Eventually found the parking garage and everything was great from there!

I stay here once or twice a year on trips to Germany because Mainz is a nice stop on the way to or from Frankfurt airport, which is easily reachable by local train. The Adveena Europa is easy walking distance from the train station (even with luggage) and also an easy walk to downtown. It is always clean, the service is good, and the breakfast is top notch. The hotel is becoming a bit dated, although I did notice this time that they had replaced the carpets in the hallway. There is really nothing romantic about it, but it remains a good option for a quick, convenient stay in this lovely city.

We needed a hotel near the HBF, and this hotel worked fine. The room furnishings are a little old but the bathroom was very sleek and modern. Excellent breakfast, friendly staff. Had to open the window to cool the room off. The noise from a party on the street below was bad but after I complained to the front desk it stopped so they must have gotten the police to move the revelers along.

Location is very good if you arrive by train. But the room seemed very expensive for what I received. It had the odor of being very old and a slight chemical smell. Perhaps it is time to change the carpet and curtains. Bath was clean and fine. Good breakfast buffet. Old fashioned locks with keys that made lots of noise unlocking and locking. Noisy room next to service elevator.

We really enjoyed our Springtime stay at Advena Europa Hotel. The staff is great! Mr. Eurigan, the manager, is very friendly and wants each guest to have the best experience. Mr Sven Fisher helped us a lot with local events and bus transportation around Mainz. Rooms are clean and nicely sized, with a window for fresh air and very comfortable beds. The daily breakfast is robust and has plenty of variety. This hotel is a gem!!

Excellent hotel in the centre of a beautiful city

My mother and I used this hotel as stopover for our trip to Mongolia and we were very happy. It not only satisfied our requirement for a hotel that was easy to find and comfortable but we were also delighted to be able to visit the city of Mainz itself in the few hours that we had, as everything was only short walk away. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs to stay in Mainz for whatever reason, and I would say the price is very reasonable for what you get.

The Advena Europa gave us easy access to Mainz Old Town and its many restaurants and museums. We loved being able to walk to dinner and shopping, as well as to the Rhine River front. Difficult hotel to assess

The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was beyond expectations with its freshness and variety - just as the website described it - and the breakfast room was airy and light. The location was three minutes walk from the station, incredibly convenient, and walking distance to the old town and city centre. The website raised my expectations, but when entering my room was incredibly disappointed. The room was very much 60s, the condition tired and in a real need of refreshing, if not updating. The temperature outside was a sweltering 29 degrees and inside the room the humidity was in the 90%. They did provide a fan and so long as I kept it on and sat in front of it, I was ok. The cleanliness was relatively good, despite the age and condition of the furniture, but they did have a bit of an ant problem which clearly (according to the dead bodies) had tried to eradicate without success. I couldn't leave the window open because it was close to the street and passing pedestrians and therefore noisy. I was in Room 110 and don't know if other rooms were in better nick. I think if the rooms were refreshed and air con added, then this would be a brilliant hotel. I recommend it for the fantastic breakfast, friendly staff, and location, but am reticent to recommend it for the condition of the rooms.

We have stayed at this hotel whenever we have flown to Frankfurt and I would recommend it to all other such travelers. The hotels in Frankfurt are terribly expensive, especially for persons just traveling through for the air connections. Cheaper hotels are located far away from everything and travel to and from them is time consuming and expensive. By staying in Mainz, travelers are within 30 minutes by train from the airport.

A central hotel, close to the railway station. The staff were friendly, nothing was too much trouble. We asked to move from our original room, nothing wrong with the room, just wanted to be on the side of hotel away from road. This was not a problem and the alternative room was excellent.
Breakfast was good, excellent choice of hot and cold food. Good coffee!

Good hotel in handy location for short stay

We wanted a hotel in a location handy to the Mainz train station for two nights and this worked well. Unfortunately our room was directly opposite the service lift so was noisy at times. The windows looked out at an office building, but as we were there on the weekend it didn't matter too much.
We had an very good breakfast each day (included in our rate).
Would recommend as a basic hotel for a night or two.

We travel to Germany annually and always like to spend a night after arriving at the airport in Frankfurt. Mainz is more convenient than downtown Frankfurt and just 20 minutes by train from the airport, Advena Europa is an easy walk from the Mainz train station, and there's even a supermarket with a good salad bar in between. The main square and the Rhine are about 15 minutes on foot from the hotel. The rooms are nothing fancy, but totally OK, and the service is great. The breakfast is unreal by American standards - various cheeses and breads, salmon, eggs, cappuccino, German sausages, etc.

This is a clean, friendly hotel very near the Mainz train station. You can take the train from Frankfurt to Mainz in 25 minutes and walk about one block to this hotel. The room was only 70 euros and no pre-payment was required to reserve -- they didn't even take a credit card during check in. Like most European hotels, the room was small but adequate. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Mainz.

As others have mentioned, this is a great little hotel. Very convenient location near train station, buses, and mid-town. No cabs required. Our room was quite large, king bed, quiet and comfortable. The staff, especially the young girls at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent ,lots of variety, everything nice and fresh.
Only minor complaint was that the internet was off for several days... Starbucks in the train station sufficed.

Nice business hotel close to train station

I wanted a nice hotel that was close to the train station, and the Advena Europa exceeded my expectations. It was also an easy walk into the Altstadt for a little sightseeing and dinner. The desk staff were helpful, courteous, outstanding. Spacious, comfortable room, though the facility is beginning to look a little worn-- rug stains and so forth, nothing offputting. Good attention to the needs of the business traveler, including free internet. I felt that this hotel offered very good value.

Only 3 blocks from the Main Bahnhof and about 15 minute walk to the downtown core. The front desk staff and the Manager on duty for the days we were there were excellent, friendly and helpful. A great location if traveling by train and only an 8 Euro taxi ride from the KD dock if using a boat. Would definitely stay here again. Mainz is a great \"base\" to visit other locales from by train on day trips.m

The hotel had WIFI included for our stay and was a 3 minute walk to the central station, and the staff at the reception desk was very nice for check-in and check-out. Aside from those minor positives, the hotel was at best, 2 stars. The hotel is definitely older, stained, and outdated. The AC was a unit mounted on the wall that did not work. Staff had to come into our room to turn the unit on. After about 10 minutes, they got it to turn on, and it was extremely loud and constantly shaking. The room was too hot to turn the AC off, and the windows open wasn't enough. The hotel said that they were unable to switch our room due to a fully booked hotel. The bathroom also had a strange smell, seemed as though it was a draining smell issue, so we had to keep the door closed. We would definitely not stay here again!

It was nice. Rooms and bathroom very small. Internet very slow. Two English stations on the very small t.v., CNBC and BBC. Breakfast and wait staff very good. Not a place to stay if you plan to stay in the room a lot. Better for a place to lay your head. It is pretty tipical for Europe.

Great deal

The room was clean, hotel staff was very responsive to our needs. Location was fantastic - close to main train station and within walking distance of downtown attractions and the river. Breakfast buffet was great; overall the hotel was nothing fancy, but a great value for the money - I would stay there again.

Decent Hotel in Good Location

Good well run hotel with comfortable rooms in an excellent location for both the station
and the town centre. The included buffet breakfast was very good and provided you are
not expecting luxury then I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

close to rail station and city centre

an excellent breakfast but the room was very disappointing. i stayed in a single room on the 3rd floor,the mattress was so worn springs on the edge dug into your flesh when you turned over. in the bathroom floor tiles were dirty near the bath and a loose shower head made a shower almost impossible.there was one pillow and you had to ask at reception to get another.

We were not allocated a room as described in the Hotels.com email confirmation. However, the hotel did give us a different room when we queried this - slightly larger BUT it was a smoking room (although we do admit that it didn't smell of smoke). On the Monday we had to ask at reception to have our bath towels changed as the room had not been serviced.

Great spot to stay and get to from the airport.

Very clean hotel and great buffet breakfast. Staff very helpfull. 5 minute walk to main rail station makes it very easy to visit the area attractions of nearby cities.
