This hotel met my needs exactly. I am a man traveling alone. I wanted to be near the center of town, the Piazza. I wanted a simple room that was clean and had a low price. The hotel was all of these. They did not have breakfast. The staff was helpful. My needs were limited, but this hotel turned out to be a perfect choice.

Disappointed and disgusted!!

The location was good, close to piazza del duomo the main square, and it was very
convenient if using public transportation.
This hotel is not a 3 star as stated on the
website site, it’s a 2 star. The breakfast was
at a bar close to the hotel. It was only a coffee and croissant and not a full breakfast as stated on your web site. There was no safe in the room and the web stated that there was a safe. The bathroom was disgusting, not very clean , dirty tiles, the
shower was just a corner with a small shower curtain, the water would overflow the rest of the bathroom. I very disappointed with this hotel , I would never here again.

Best location at budget prices

The hotel is at the best possible location, directly at the Duomo square. As a budget hotel, it meets the typical Italian standards, the room is dated but clean, the bathroom was updated and modern but the shower was very small. There is no elevator but that suits me fine since elevators in buildings like these tend to be clunky, so I avoid them in any case. Breakfast was a voucher to get a hot drink and pastry at the best cafe in the square, which is my favorite way of doing breakfast in Italy, so this worked out great.

Great location to be in Catania right on the piazza. Great view from our balcony it faced the Cathedral and the Elephant fountain on the piazza. Anyone who travels would like this hotel. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Their English skills were not strong but I didn't find the use of English to be strong in Catania in general; you are in a foreign country people. I enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Wybraliśmy ten hotel ze względu na jego doskonałą lokalizację, przy pięknym Piazza Duomo , w sercu miasta.
Lekkim rozczarowaniem był fakt, że dostaliśmy pokój na ostatnim piętrze ( bez windy ! ), bez balkoniku , zaledwie z niewielkim oknem wychodzącym na plac. Ale widok i tak nas zachwycał. Pokój był klimatyzowany, wyposażenie standardowe, łazience przydałoby się odświeżenie. Klucz dostaliśmy dopiero o 14, pomimo adnotacji o dostępności od 13:30. Niemiłe wrażenie sprawia brudna markiza przy głównym wejściu.

Easy check-in, great location in Piazza Duomo, yummy restaurants nearby and attractions within a 20 min walk. My single room had toiletries, towels, breakfast included w/choice of regular or sicilian breakfast 7-10am, lobby always open and very nice desk clerk, guests allowed leaving passport (pick it up on way out), have to leave key in lobby when going out, pick it up on your way to your room (IMO a good safety practice). The public beach is a bit dangerous to get to by foot. Kinda chilly at night (February), maybe need an extra blanket. I recommend this hotel.

Most awful place I ever stayed

I booked two rooms with balconies. The hotel gave our rooms to other people and shoveled us into 2 arctic rooms. No applology at all. The guy told us he could give us money back and asked us to leave. It is night time in Catenia, Sicily. There is no elevators. The guy did not allow my husband to park the car in front of the hotel so he could carry out luggage to 4th floor. The staff said that he would carry everything up. End up he only carried 2 suitcases. He forced me and my daughter each to carry one suitcase to 4rh floor. The room is terrible. Everything smell very bad,the mattresses, the chairs, the pillows, the beddings. The whole rooms smell like men's locker room. I have to use t-shirts to cover each pillow so we can sleep. After two nights, the t-shirts and our PJs all smell terrible.The bathroom is awful. Everything is loose and seems going to break in any second. The towels are just some very thin rags. The so called \"full breakfast\" is just one croissant and one coffee in a cafe across the square. Hotels.com rates it 3 star. All other web booking sites rate it only 2 stars. I feel it is much worse than motels in north America.

The location for this hotel couldn’t be better, it’s right on the Puazza Duomo.10 minutes walk from the ferry station and a good 15 to 20 minute walk to the train station. The fellow who checked me in at night the fellow on the desk in the morning were nice. The breakfast is a sweet bun and coffee at a lovely patisserie across the Piazza. Everything was great except the room. It’s really depressing. Dark peach sponge painted walls with glitter. Old furniture and linens and towels. It has a rooming house feel about it. Definitely needs updating!

I received the same treatment as the reviewer below me. So there seems to be a trend in misrepresenting. The difference was i was so exhausted after 24 hours of travel that i would have been thankful for a jail cell. The room was big. I had some view of VE street. Ceilings were high. Wifi did stink. Tv and showers were mini sized. Staff was good. Location is great. In the number one piazza. The bus stop is close. From the airport you get off the first stop and walk towards old town or wait to last stop. You take last stop back to airport. Wish they gave me a view so i could have raised the score. Only problem is street noise and weird ac that sputters. That picture they show is the train tracks. It is where the last bus stop is. Could use a fridge and safe.

The first of three rooms was horrible. The night clerk really didn’t speak English. He told me that the room included a balcony (and a city view) as per my reservation. His so-called balcony was a fire escape. It had no view. The WiFi didn’t work and the tv had a weak signal that kept dropping.
After I gave the hotel a bad online checkin review, the hotel responded by saying that the issue had been resolved, even before they talked to me. Later they moved me to a room that came closer to the advertised description. One on the third floor, no elevator.
The third room had no WiFi the first night, because the desk clerk gave me the wrong info. Poor bathroom. Poor tv reception. They made the bed every morning, but never changed the sheets.
The man that worked the front desk during the day spoke English and was very helpful.

Very well located hotel right next to the main piazza. Probably not suitable if you have a car as there's not much street parking. Easy to get a bus from the airport and a short walk from the bus stop (Dusmet) to the hotel. The hotel does not have a lift so not good if you can't cope with stairs. Simone, the day time manager, was extremely charming and helpful and made our stay a memorable experience. We had dinner at the restaurant/wine bar next door on 3 nights (closed on Monday- our first night in Catania).

Great location! Very helpful staff. We dropped of our bags in the lobby, and by the time we parked, the staff had moved the bags up to our room. About the parking, hotels.com says the property has parking--that is in accurate. Breakfast is not served on site but in a cafe around the corner.

Nice views overlooking the Piazza Duomo. We've enjoyed mini-party with local wine and foods (bought at supermarket nereby) viewing the piazza from the room. The room is spacious and clean. The front staffs are very polite. Really nice hotel.

Perfect location but could do with an upgrade

This hotel is perfectly situated in the corner of the square by the Duomo and is a great area to stay in if you want to easily explore Catania’s old town, especially if you do not have a long time to spend there as we didn’t. The hotel is great value for this reason but is very basic and quite run down. What particularly annoyed us when trying to sleep seemed to be a drainage issue which meant our toilet made a very strange screaming-like noise. Also, I don’t think it’s too much to ask for more than one pillow each.

Lovely older hotel in part of a palazzo across the square from the Duomo. The view from our balcony overlooking the duomo was the best hotel room view I have every had. The room had older, wood furnishings that went with the palazzo and urban context. The toilet fixtures show their age but work fine. There are no elevators to serve the three floors. Lots of restaurants nearby, and the historical centre is all within walking distance. Taxi stand and buses right in the square. Continental breakfast at cafe next door.

It's in a good position if like me you can't walk very far. It doesn't have a lift either & the so called breakfast is a croissant & drink from a bar around the corner. It was a Euro 20 pre booked car ride from the Airport and a Euro 10 taxi fare to the Train station far a 3 hour trip to Palermo.
Also there is a weekend get together in the square till about 23.30 on Saturday& Sunday then trucks wake you at 05.30 every day. It's a cheap place to stay but go elsewhere if you need creative comforts.

The location is fantastic, next to the Duoma square, surrounded by good restaurants and cafes. The hotel is charming, our room was huge. It was very clean a good bathroom plenty of closet space and A/C.. The managers weer excellent-friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is includes, served at a wonderful cafe a few steps around the corner. Only drawback was the stairs.

Great location; no common space despite its 3 ***

This hotel is right smack in the center of Catania with spectacular views from the balcony of the piazza of the cathedral. This historic building has no elevator, so you need to walk up from one to three flights of steep steps to get to your room. There is no real common space to speak of except a couch in the small reception lobby on the ground floor. It was a quiet stay with regards to traffic since this area is primarily a pedestrian zone. The noise came from the interior of the room since the overhead heating fan made a lot of raquet. They have seen their days and should be upgraded. Breakfast was offered in a bar around the corner.

Perfectly located opposite the duomo

Having read the previous reviews we were expecting the noise but not the taxi drivers who talked, or was it shouted all night under our window. DO NOT BOOK ROOM 4. Maybe room 7 or 8, take earplugs and maybe some sleeping tablets! The beds are like concrete, but that's not unusual for the Italian hotels we have encountered so far. Simone was very helpful and spoke good English. Breakfast, usual sweet pastry, cold coffee, disinterested staff, but hey who cares you're in Italy, great location for the small part of catania that you might want to walk around. Try the traditional fish in a cone, around the back of the fountain....

I had a very unpleasant stay at this hotel. The room was dingy, dirty, and dark with stains on the walls and mould in the bathroom as well as a strong smell of stale smoke despite being advertised as a non-smoking room. Many of the amenities advertised were not provided, including wifi and in-room safe. The room also overlooked an inside courtyard/back alley and there were strange knocking noises coming from this courtyard all night, making it very hard to sleep.

If you need anything though you have to drag the info out of the staff, not really a 3 star more of a 2. No self serve laundries in Catania so make sure you do it beforehand.

The location of this hotel could not be more convenient. It is right next to the main square.you can walk to all the sights, bus station, and restaurants. My room on the second floor was not terribly clean and the bed was a worn mattress on springs. The wifi does not work anywhere but the lobby.manager skeaks minimal English but had good information about public buses to MT.Etna and tried his best. It is also easy to grab a taxi as there is a taxi stand right in front. If you book through hotels.com be insistant on the included breakfast. They tried to tell me it wasn't included and I had a bit of an argument. You only get a coupon for a croissant and coffee around the corner but it is included.

This is a 3-star hotel, and it matches that classification. The location is truly excellent – it couldn’t be better. If your room faces the piazza, it can be quite noisy until around 4 AM, but once the windows are properly closed, you can sleep peacefully.
The hotel is very clean, including the bathrooms, which are well maintained and have a spacious, comfortable shower.
The building is historical, which probably explains the lack of an elevator – something that is definitely noticeable if you have heavy luggage or mobility issues.
Breakfast is not served inside the hotel, but at a nearby partner café. It’s very basic: just a coffee and a croissant, nothing more.
Overall, a decent experience. I’m giving it 4 stars.

La posizione è davvero perfetta, impossibile chiedere di meglio. Se la camera è con vista sulla piazza, può essere piuttosto rumorosa fino alle 4 del mattino, ma chiudendo bene le finestre si riesce a dormire tranquillamente.
L’hotel è molto pulito, anche i bagni sono ben curati, con una doccia ampia e comoda.
L’edificio è storico, e questo spiega probabilmente l’assenza dell’ascensore – una mancanza che si sente, soprattutto con bagagli o per chi ha difficoltà motorie.
La colazione non viene servita in hotel, ma in un bar convenzionato nelle vicinanze. È molto semplice: solo un caffè e un cornetto, niente di più.
Nel complesso, esperienza ok, darò 4 stelle.

Es gab kein Aufzug, 65 Stufen in den dritten Stock mit Koffern. Es gab keine Parkplätze obwohl diese beworben wurden. Es gab keinen Frühstücksraum obwohl dieser beworben wurde. Das Frühstück gab es in einer Kaffeebar auf dem Platz. Ein Getränk und ein Kaffeestück waren das erweiterte regionale Frühstück. Der Föhn im Zimmer war defekt; die Dusche war nur für schlanke Menschen begehbar die einen BMI von unter 25 haben. Die Zudecken waren teilweise mit Flecken, zerrissen und sehr alt. Positiv waren die Lage, die Freundlichkeit des Personals und die funktionierende Klimaanlage.

I’d rather sleep in the car.

Reception did not speak any form of English. We arrived by car, called ahead to get directions to the hotel parking lot (which we were informed they had) and they said something in Italien and hung up. They don’t have any parking spots.
We slept directly on the springs in the madras, the floor was more comfortable.
There was mould in the bathroom, the inventory was crappy and looked like it was about to fall apart. A bad hotel, way overpriced.

Hotellet va gammalt men höll ändå en bra standard. Man fick en fjärrkontroll till air-con för rummet, vilket känns lite gammaldags... men över lag va rummet rymligt och ok säng. Badrummet va lite trångt dock, men överkomligt. Frukosten fick man en kupong för att gå till ett café vid närliggande torg. Där fick man välja en vara på tallriken och en dryck, alltså ingen frukostbuffé. Hotellet ligger perfekt geografiskt eftersom det ligger nära alla sevärdheter och enkelt att ta sig till stranden från närliggande bussterminal. Enda nackdelen är att det ligger en nattklubb intill hotellet som spelar dunka-dunka musik till småtimmarna. Jag har inte svårt att sova när jag är trött så störs inte så mkt av ljud. Men ha dessa parametrar i åtanke när du bokar hotellet. På det stora hela är jag nöjd med vistelsen och läget. Men frukosten är som sagt lite snål och det är inte så ljudisolerat på hotellet. Men vill man bo centralt till ett bra pris så är det helt ok.

Das Personal war leider nicht sehr freundlich. Wir hatten das Gefühl eine Belastung für sie zu seien und nicht erwünschte Gäste.
Das Hotel liegt Zentral und ist gut mit Öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zu erreichen.
Das Frühstück ist nicht im Hotel, sondern in einem Lokal gegenüber.

夜遅くのチェックインでしたが、気持ちよく迎えていただきました。
スーツケースも日本でいう3階まで上げてくれました。
朝食は広場にあるバールでチケットを見せてパンとコーヒーを
頂くようになっています。観光には最高のロケーションですが、
駅までが歩きで１７分ほど。バスターミナルまでは３-４分ですがバスを探すのが大変だと思います。タクシーはホテルが呼んでくれます。

Die Lage ist unschlagbar direkt im Herzen der Stadt. Die Zimmer bieten einen tollen Ausblick auf den Dom. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Zimmer wirken etwas altmodisch sind aber sauber und praktisch.

Gentillesse du personnel d'accueil, chambre avec charme rétro et vue sur piazza del Duomo, restaurant au pied de l’hôtel excellent pour la nourriture & l'accueil. Petit déjeuner au bar d'en face classique (1 boisson chaude 1 pâtisserie), bar typique.

La cortesia e la disponibilita' del Sig.Sergio mal si abbinano ad una struttura che e' ,a dir poco ,fatiscente per nostra fortuna mai viste sino ad ora. Unico aspetto positivo va considerata la posizione centralissima . Grazie ancora al Sig. Sergio !

Comodo e Centrale!

Se cercate un albergo semplice, ma che offre tutto quello che vi occorre, l'hotel Centrale Europa è quello che fa per voi. Le camere, un po' old style, sono confortevoli e pulite, molte con un balcone che affaccia sulla piazza della Cattedrale di Catania. Lo staff è molto accogliente e disponibile; la prima colazione viene servita in un vicino e ottimo bar. Rapporto qualità prezzo eccellente!

Struttura senza dubbio datata, ma che mantiene l’originalità propria di una struttura storica. Personale molto gentile e cortese. Posizione eccellente nel cuore della più bella piazza di Catania. Bonus per la colazione in una pasticceria eccellente a pochi passi dalla struttura. Dopo alcune perplessità iniziali..io ci ritorneri…

Mein Urlaub im Hotel Centrale Europa in Catania war einfach wunderbar. Ich hatte ein schönes, geräumiges Einzelzimmer mit überwältigendem Bluck auf die Piazza Duomo. Die Lage des Hotels ist wirklich top, mitten im Geschehen. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Hotel ist ein schönes, altes Haus ohne Aufzug und ohne viel Schnickschnack, aber mit allem was man braucht. Für mich war es die absolut richtige Wahl. Super! Gleich nebenan befindet sich der sehr sehenswerte Fischmarkt. Das sehr leckere Frühstück (ein Gebäck nach Wahl) und ein Cappuccino (oder anderes Kaffeegetränk) wird in einem sehr schönen Cafe' schäg gegenüber eingenommen. 100 % Weierempfehlung!

un soggiorno in pieno centro storico

Nel cuore del centro storico di Catania a due passi da tutti i celebri monumenti della Città. La camera era silenziosa. Certo si tratta pur sempre di un hotel in un palazzo d'epoca e ne risente di ciò in termini di architettura ma ciò viene superato dalla possibilità di muoversi agevolmente senza utilizzare auto per effettuare piccoli tour.

La struttura è posizionata proprio in piazza duomo e infatti la nostra camera affacciava proprio lì. La struttura è un po’ vecchietta ma comunque mantenuta pulita.

Georgeous view + comfort sleep = ideal short stay

Great view of the Cathedral and Elephant statue, clean room and bathroom, warm, a bit noisy in the evening (due to people in the Piazza outside), great cafe + and pistachio croissant in a fashionable cafeteria in Piazza Duomo as hotel breakfast (!), so ideal for short stay in Catania. Highly recommended!
