Unfortunately this hotel has seen better days! Hallway carpets were disgusting/dirty, and the room was not much better. The photos on Hotels.com do not relate to the reality of what is the hotel. On a positive note, the women who checked me into the property was very nice!

The room was okay. It needs a few upgrades. Bathroom shower head was leaking water from the base and as a result the pressure was compromised.
It would have been excellent if they had a kettle and tea/ coffee in the room .

Overall the room was in good condition despite the age of the hotel . It was clean and comfortable. A/C worked good. Hot and cold water was good. Room was quiet, but lacked outlets close to the bed for charging phones etc.
Great location . Front office was very professional and accommodating and recommended many areas around town and best places for food. It was much appreciated.

Mio marito ed io abbiamo vissuto un'esperienza meravigliosa all'Hotel Il Principe. Dal momento del nostro arrivo, il personale ci ha fatto sentire veramente accolti e curati. L'hotel stesso è elegante, confortevole e perfettamente posizionato, ma ciò che lo distingue davvero è il livello del servizio.

Durante il nostro soggiorno, abbiamo avuto difficoltà a trovare biglietti per una partita del Catania Football Club, un momento clou che speravamo davvero di vivere. Il team alla reception ha fatto di tutto, cercando instancabilmente fino ad aiutarci a ottenere i posti. Grazie a loro, eravamo allo stadio per vedere il Catania segnare due volte e vincere negli ultimi minuti, diventando uno dei momenti più memorabili di tutto il nostro viaggio.

Abbiamo apprezzato così tanto il nostro soggiorno che abbiamo prenotato altre notti per il nostro ritorno a Catania prima di tornare a casa. È raro trovare un hotel dove ci si sente sia ben curati che veramente apprezzati come ospiti.

Torneremo sicuramente all'Il Principe alla nostra prossima visita in Sicilia e lo raccomanderemo con tutto il cuore a amici e familiari.

Acceptable hotel if you are looking for a reasonably priced place to sleep in the city center. Almost all Catania attractions are within walking distance and the hotel building is beautiful and in relatively good condition. That being said, breakfast was very limited especially if you wanted something savory (just 2 types of ham and 1 type of cheese, the same every day - otherwise they had 4 or 5 different types of croissant...). The worst part was the level of cleanliness though - the shower cabin had a significant amount of mold, and during our 6 night stay they never changed our bedsheets (which were stained to begin with) or vacuumed - actually they most likely didn't vacuum between guests either because there were a ton of dust bunnies on the floor and our socks would get full of dust after a walk from the bed to the bathroom. It's really a shame because this place could be so much nicer with a little more effort, but the current conditions really don't justify it being 4 stars.

- They have extra large rooms and bathrooms
- the AC works well
- extremely well located

Cons:
- barely any street parking and if you do find it you have to battle with the machines and pray they take a credit card and you understand the instructions in Italian
- the shower was small but the shower entrance was miniscule.. im fat and could barely get in. It hurt me.
- there are three steps to go up and another three to go down to the very old , tiny elevator but then there are 25 marble stairs to move your suitcases to the rooms and its painful
- old and outdated bed covers/sheets and bad springy mattress
- there is no one at the check in so to access the courtyard you need to correspond via WhatsApp with management and pray they answer your message. After 8pm they are not available .
- there is a parking they work with which is NOT next door and its $15 but needs to be reserved in advance however they might forget and tell you there is no space when in fact you reserved it before

Absolutely stunning location! It was an easy walk to the cable car and a great way to see Isola Bella. There were a few random hairs on the bed when we checked in but it was otherwise spotless. The breakfast was excellent and the rooftop pool was gorgeous!

But the days that I was there there were empty parking spots hmmmmmm

Could not ask for a better location than this hotel. It is central and walking distance to a lot of tourist attractions. The staff speak English very well which is helpful. They even coordinated transportation to the airport for us. One con is that they didn't have a washcloth in the shower or hair conditioner, but for one night it wasn't a big deal. Unfortunately, we were on the 4th floor and didn't have any windows, just skylights and one didn't open. Out of the 3 rooms we had, only 1 had an amazing view of the city. Depending how long you're staying, I'd recommend asking for a room with a view.

Absolutely ideal position for all the city centre historical and religious sights, easy walking distance to Borsalino bus station for airport bus, or buses to Etna region. Suffers a little from scruffiness of the city in general.
Deluxe room was spacious and comfortable with good wifi, and even BBC News on tv ch 411.
Bathroom a little dated, but perfectly adequate.
Breakfast pretty good, though no Parma ham, olives or Ricotta/Mozzarella. Cakes and pastries fresh, with coffee available from bar if you didn't want it from a machine.
All in all a perfectly satisfactory stay for a couple of days

Hotel in good location for bars, restaurants and shops. It was shall I say tired it could be so much more. There is a roof terrace that's not utilized which could be a great plus as the views are great but apart from a couple of loungers that's all. Had a problem with our shower which couldn't be fixed so we were offered another room but we declined as we were too busy to move all of our stuff but with a bit of Heath Robinson inspiration did a temporary fix ourselves. Breakfast was ok but then again could be better eggs tasted funny and the bacon was far too thin and crisp and no tomatoes which I found surprising in Sicily.

Our room was adequate and comfortable and the location of the hotel is great. Staff are friendly and professional. Clean towels and clean bedding daily which was great. The breakfast however was disappointing. The TV did not have a signal and no streaming was available on it. There was no water or coffee facilities provided and no usb ports in room. The shower area needed a really good de-scaling and clean.

We had a room level with steps leading to two churches and next to two bars and nightclubs. Noisy! Also, our neighbor in the room next door had a cough, which we could hear loud and clear throughout the night. The staff is excellent; the breakfast is mediocre at best. We recommend the hotel due to the outstanding location.

If you want a good location above quality of property this is the one for you. Otherwise, it’s like stepping into the 70s. Tired, worn, in places dirty - bath doesn’t drain when having a shower. Staff refused to let us have two additional pillows, only allowing us one to supplement the thin single pillow given each. Definitely no service with a smile either - but that’s Catania generally

Cannot say enough good things about the property. Centrally located to many sightseeing points of interest and not far from the cruise ship terminal (although I wouldn’t walk pushing big suitcases because of the cobble stone streets and traffic). Staff is extremely helpful and courteous. There was no airport pick up, but taxis outside airport are a good option for about 37 Euros. My room was EXCELLENT! This is a very good place for any SOLO traveler.

My wife and I took a superior deluxe room at the Principe di Catania for a celebration. The area is very central, other parts of the hotel are ok, as is the breakfast, but our room was disappointing and in bad shape. The window was faulty and therefore more noise came in. The room had a double bed and then two more beds in a sort of mezzanine, which took away the size of the room which was small. A light bulb was burnt out and it didn't allow you to look in the wardrobe. There wasn't even an armchair. The TV was leaning against a small table. Two electrical sockets were broken, with wires showing. Wall sconces, soap dishes and toilet roll were loosely fixed and wobbled. Bottom line, the room was dowdy and in need of maintenance. We complained to reception, they promised us a phone call from the manager which never came. They did fix little things, like a bedside table that wobbled, leaving the rest unrepaired. In short, our experience was not a superior deluxe room in a hotel with many stars, but a small frustration.

Nice property close to the city center for a few nights’ stay in Catania. Proximity to the main piazza was a huge plus. Overall, a typical European hotel. Our only complaint is that our rental car was damaged after being parked by the hotel (the bottom of the trunk collapsed as though the spare had been taken out, and we left with a small chip in the windshield).

Fabulous Stay

Fabulous hotel! Very friendly staff who attended to all our needs, while keeping a very safe and clean environment and helping us with the Sicilian track and trace system. The room was lovely, good air conditioning, very comfortable and spacious. Location couldn’t have been better, close to loads of restaurants and bars, and right in the heart of the historic centre with landmarks within a 5 minute walk. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Catania!

Great central location for walking to many of the sights in old Catania. Also only about 5 minute walk to catch the airport Alibus. Great breakfast buffet and room size. Minor problems with upkeep though, which sadly seems to be the norm for much of Italy. The toilet ran constantly, adjustable mirror in the bathroom and adjustable end table lights couldn't be adjusted for position and just hung down. The exhaust fan in the bathroom was not functioning either.

This is a fine hotel in a very good location. Do not go expecting a 4 start experience - some of the common areas are up to grade but the rest of the hotel is a perfectly adequate 3 star venture. The smell of cigarette smoke in the halls and tired rooms are fine, so long as that is what you expect. Common areas are lovely and the location is simply perfect.
