Comfortable, beautiful, modern

Had a lovely stay. The hotel was quiet even though there were many people. My room had a little balcony and I could sleep with the door open and get fresh air without it being noisy outside. The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom very clean and modern. The hotel is also very central and walking distance from the train station.

I really enjoyed my stay and the service from the reception team was amazing on the first day . The breakfast was great, and the restaurant team was really good.

However, I was very unhappy with my experience on the last night of my stay. I returned to the hotel around 1:50 am to find the door locked and no one at the reception. I spent about an hour knocking on the door and calling the hotel numbers before someone finally opened the door. This experience really overshadowed all the good things I loved about the place. Additionally, one of my friends mentioned this issue to the reception team when checking out, but they did nothing about it.

Worth a side trip off the beaten tourist path.

A traditional family owned hotel in Marburg. It was in bisiness in 1961 in my student days . Unfortunately I couldn\"t afford it in those days. Since then I have stayed there twice and have found it to be excellent. Friendly staff and comfortable beds as well as an excellent restaurant. Warning to American tourists,,,,most people in Marburg speak good English, but you have to ask them first. They are friendly and polite . Marburg is a cosmopolitan town, but most non Germans there speak German. Enjoy yourselves at a unique place off the beaten American tourist path.

Great location and very helpful staff. I arrived at the hotel and had booked my reservation for the next day, not the day I arrived. The reception at the desk was luckily able to change it for me to keep the same room and the same rate. I really appreciate the help on this as some hotels do not accommodate errors when it is the guest's mistake. The hotel and room were lovely, and the hotel is in a great, central, very walkable location to everything in town and the train station. I highly recommend.

Marburger Hof has parking though it is tight if one does not have a small car. It is conveniently located near Elizabeth's Kirche and access to the elevator to get to the OberDorf or Old Town is a 15 min walk. It is probably the best option if staying in Marburg main town. The room was very comfortable and we were given a room away from the street so it was quiet.

Clean and quiet room, comfortable bed. The hotel is rather dated, though it appears renovations to some extant have take place somewhat recently. Staff came across courteous, though perhaps not entirely friendly or rather just indifferent. Breakfast was good with a decent selection. Parking lot available, which you have to drive your car into a car elevator to get to and it's a tight fit, so be extra careful; no problem for a sedan, though.

They set up to have him picked up from the airport and brought to the hotel, so he did not have to figure out the train in a new country exhausted from a long flight. He said everyone was amazing, very helpful and the breakfast is way better than the US.

My one concern is learning where the parking is. Had to go around the large, one way street block a second time after getting out and having desk show me in a map. Perhaps a map before had would be more convenient. Room was very nice and quiet. Meal in restaurant for dinner was fantastic and breakfast was more than ample. Loved the walk around area. Would return if back in area!! Thanks for the experience.

We were in a newly renovated room - 214 - (so much so, that the corridor outside was still unfinished, ie concrete floor, writing on walls). There were a few teething faults with the room, the free standing loo was positioned too high, so had to sit with feet on tip toes (I'm 5ft 5). The handle for the plug plunger for the sink was fitted too close to the wall so it was impossible to open the plug hole - we used our fingers to manually pull it out. We had a winter duvet but the day we left was 27 degrees ...Just a few niggles. The plus side, the room was very quiet as we were at the back of the hotel, very clean. Very helpful, friendly staff. Very good value and hotel in a very good position.Breakfast was in a lovely room and was excellent, with a wonderful selection. Free parking. We would return.

This was a great hotel. The staff was all very nice and accommodating, the rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast in the morning was fantastic. The hotel is located close to the old town district, as well as many restaurants. The parking garage under the building was the only downside: it looked like it had once been a lift system parking garage, but the lifts no longer worked. The parking spaces were extremely narrow, even for Europe. Parking was a little terrifying, though I suppose it gave us a sense of accomplishment when we were finished, so there's that. Aside from that, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. I really can't say enough about the breakfast in the morning--it was so good.

Nice, clean and spacious rooms that are very functional and well maintained but could nevertheless be considered as slightly outdated. The rooms could benefit from a modernization even though the overall state is not at all run down. Service and breakfast buffet were both great. Next time I would however skip the proposed indoor hotel parking as it was very narrow and not that easy to use.

We arrived very early and although there wasn’t a room available the staff kindly stored our luggage while we went site seeing. When we came back earlly our room had been prepared for us.
The room was very clean and comfortable but most importantly to us was the hotels proximity to the train station and the Old Town. About a 10 minute walk.
We had a delicious at the hotels Spanish restaurant.

Central with good breakfast - but no sleep

Very nice hotel in great location, close to both Marburg railway station and the old town, with small (but adequate for the price) but clean room and a great breakfast buffet, BUT.... AC was broken in one of the hottest weeks of the year. Our room was sunny and overlooking a busy crossroads, so it was unbearably hot, but when we tried to open the window at night, it was simply too noisy to sleep. Little fan that was put into the room brought some relief for the heat, but was very uncomfortably draughty. In the end, we hardly slept at all and were glad that we only stayed the one night in a room that, in my opinion, should not have been rented out.
Hotel staff was very friendly and apologetic but waited for us to complain rather than warn about the room at check-in. Apparently, there was no other room available, even though the hotel seemed far from full. A real shame, as it put a dampener on an otherwise great trip to beautiful Marburg.

Stayed 3 nights in a triple room on the top floor. Room very nice and clean but it was very hot even in October. You can't sleep with the Windows open unless you have the curtains open too. They provide a small fan but it wasn't making much difference. The only toiletries in the bathroom were hand wash and shower gel that doubled up as shampoo so had to buy conditioner and body lotion. Breakfast was in a lovely room with plenty of choice and attentive staff. Lots to see and do in Marburg and lots of excellent eateries but it's pretty expensive.

The hotel was well located for sight seeing and parking was available within walking distance ( the hotel's parking was full when we arrived). Our room faced the street and it was a good thing that it was cool enough we could close windows at night, otherwise the street noise would have been problematic. Once the windows were closed they were very well sound insulated. Overall I was satisfied, but not impressed.

Modern Hotel in an Early Modern Town

The Marburger Hof, formerly the Europaeischer Hof, has been remodeled as well as renamed since I last stayed there around 20 years ago. My room was up-to-date and attractive, with a quite nice en suite bath (actually shower). The hotel is located only a skip and a jump from the Elizabethkirche, one of the town's chief attractions, as well as very close to many good restaurants. The breakfasts are so generous as to keep you going until dinnertime.

One word- Bedbugs.

Nice staff but when we mentioned we had been munched by bedbugs the night before they didn't seem concerned. Maybe it isn't something they worry about in Europe but in the states its a big deal. First time we have been \"bitten\" by a hotel room.

We needed a hotel to stop over in Marburg for one evening, and this was a great choice. It is ideally located in the center of town with several spots nearby to grab a drink or a bite (even later in the evening), and the staff is very kind. I noticed some previous reviews indicated that the garage space was tight or insufficient, but we had no problems at all! (We were driving a midsize Infiniti.)

Great location. Room was small, though. That would have been fine if they offered WiFi in the rooms. The only way to get free WiFi was to go down and sit in the lobby....an inconvenience. Free internet access should be provided just like any other utility, like water or electricity these days...especially in a hotel that caters to a business crowd. The charge to use the internet was something like 9 euros per day (don't quote me on the exact amount), and should have been included in the room charge. Also, breakfast was very expensive, around 21 euros as I recall. We had a perfectly fine cooked breakfast with all the trimmings at a hotel only one block away that only cost 6 euros....much more reasonable.

Great hotel near the Altstadt

Friendly front desk staff welcomed me after my long day of traveling. If you don't speak German, no worries. The staff, seemingly every one of them including the waitstaff at breakfast, speaks English. Room was a double, and it was comfortable for one, though it would be tight for two. Breakfast was fresh and good with much selection, including and especially the wonderful bread. Germans really know how to do bread. The only complaint (and this is being picky) is the labyrinth-like trek to the third floor rooms with large suitcases. But once you figure it out, it's not so bad.

Stayed for wedding in July 15. Hotel is a little dated but you could also see it as classic German style and didn't put us off. Service was good/friendly, location great for the main church, 10 min walk to train station and 7-8 min walk to the pretty old town. Car parking is OK, if a little tight if you have a large car. Tip for summer - if it's hot ask for a room at the back as we opened windows at night to cool room but then we had some noise from the street in the am. All in all a good option in Marburg, would def stay again.

Very good Hotel

It is a very nice hotel, close to the train station if you are coming in by train. Just next to the city centre. My room was very comfortable and spacious. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant of the hotel was pretty good too. There are not many options in Marburg anyway, but this hotel would be a very good option in many cities.

When we arrived, although the hotel had parking they had no spots left and we had to park down the street and pay for metered parking which meant my husband had to set the alarm for the next morning so he could plug the meter with more money at 8a.m.
Also, the water coming out of the tub and the kitchen sink was disgusting. It was brown/orange and had actual dirt flecks in it. When I called the front desk to tell them they came up to look and said oh ya, you just have to let the taps run for 15 minutes!!! Our room looked out on to a rock wall, not pretty. Although it was close to the centre of town and close to a church, the bells kept us up and woke us up as well.
I would not return to this hotel.

Comfortable hotel close to train station.

The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. They gave recommendations for restaurants nearby, when requested. There was a computer available for use in the lobby. Guest rooms had air conditioning, but the lobby and hallways were quite warm. We did not end up with the room that we thought we had booked, however we were given something the hotel claimed was equivalent in value. Breakfast buffet on the terrace was a pleasant way to start the day.

Our stay was great, it was only for 1 night and we wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel was comfortable, clean and nice. Staff were great. Domingo's Restaurant downstairs serves beautiful Spanish food. Marburg is also a beautiful enchanting town.

Overall, my wife and I were pleased with our stay, although I would not recommend this to a senior citizen who arrive by car. The parking structure is detached from the hotel, and there was no direct access to the hotel. We had to pull our suitcases down some stairs, along the sidewalk, and then up some more stairs to the hotel lobby. For younger, more adventurous people that might be okay.

The stay is very comfortable. We are assigned to a newly rennovated room and pretty quite. Breadfast is also great. The complimentary tea is appreciated. We were assigned to a room on the 3/F of which the key for the floor entrance door is the same used for the room key. If the reception can provide this reminder, we can get to our room easier. Overall, we are satisfied with this hotel.

Lovely hotel near Elisabethkirche

This is a beautiful comfortable hotel. We needed a room to fit our family of four with two teenage sons. The second bed in the room for four was a bit snug but worked out ok. The breakfast was superb. The hotel staff was very helpful. Driving the car into an elevator to get to the parking lot was a new experience for us. The location is good for a walk to any place in Marburg.

My sole purpose for coming to Marburg was to hear the organ in the Elizabethkirche. This hotel is practically across the street from the church, and served as a good home base for exploring Marburg. And while it was close to the church, and a convenient walk from the train station, it is a little distant from the old town. It is an exhilirating, uphill walk from the hotel to the old town, but worth every minute if you are able. However, be advised that there are also terrific sets of elevators (lifts) that will take you from the lower city to the upper, older city. The hotel staff will direct you to those lifts, which are especially handy if one has had too much wine in any of the delightful cafes, and restaurants in the old city. The hotel is definitely old-school European. It maintains a certain amount of elegance, while seeming just a little behind the times. Clean, but aged. Dining options are best in the old part of the city, although there is a Mexican restaurant right across from the hotel, and in all honesty, the food was pretty good. I had to try it! For the price and location, this was a good find on Hotels.com.

An absolutely amazing breakfast. My husband cannot eat gluten and gluten free rolls and all types of milk (Lactose free and soya) available. Huge quantities. Local produce. Can't speak highly enough.Free computer in lobby. High standard and pleasant staff. Really central location and we had no trouble finding space in the hotel car park, However bed was really hard and pillows not comfortable.

When we first got off of the train I thought oh no...the town seemed old and forgottten.....but I could not have been more wrong. Around the corner and very close to the station (but not too close) was this quaint hotel with a very friendly staff, free breakfast that was delicious, free tea and coffee all of the time in the lovely lobby and free internet. There was even free fruit, chocolate and hard candy . We stayed at 5 hotels during our stay in Germany and this was our favorite. It was also a very short walk to the university, the wonderful shopping district and a castle. Would definitely stay there again.

Hotel is very easy to find, straight down the street from the main train station. The complimentary breakfast was phenomenal and wi-fi was also complimentary for us. Great service and extremely friendly.

Great stay

We had a great time in Marburg at this hotel. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station and a 10 minute walk to the town centre. The walk to the town centre is lovely and includes the pretty elizabethskirche. The hotel is very nicely furnished and the staff were very helpful, they even spoke great english! The room was clean and tidy and contained everything you could need. The breakfast in the morning was spectacular. A good mix of food you would normally find at a continental buffet, and then some!

Overall a great stay and would recommend to anyone staying in Marburg.

Hotel was excellent, great breakfast. Staff all spoke English and made us very welcome. Parking for the car was very tight in the Hotel parking garage. Make sure you get all your stuff out before you park. Location was good and gave good access to all the main sights of the town.

Classic old hotel

The hotel is a block away from Elizabethkirche. A historic hotel that is updated. The room was tastefully decorated and the bathroom was large enough. The breakfast buffet had a good selection. Overall a good choice if you are staying in Marburg.

Convenience in Marburg

The hotel is conveniently situated midway between the railwayy station (in walking distance) and the historic old town. Recent refurbishment has given it a comfortable lobby where complimentary tea is available 24/7. The Spanish restaurant is pleasantly refurbished, though we found the service slow the day we were there. The breakfast room is separate, and provides a good range of food in a spacious environment with an outside terrace .
The hotel has two separate buildings, joined by a corridor at 2nd. floor level. Although some of the rooms have been refurbished, those in the annexe have not. Our rooms were heavily furnished in a style reminiscent of a 70s study bedroom, with dark panelling and carpet even on the walls and ceiling. The bathrooms were small but adequate. These rooms could definitely do with a make-over.
