Nice stay passing through

We had a very nice stay here. Room was great, good shower, nice bed.
Breakfast was the type your order from menu, but decent options and well-made.
Loved the pool part, quiet and relaxing, with a small pool, sauna and jacuzzi.

Highlight was the staff, very friendly and helpful.

Caveat on the rooms. Old part of hotel must be 50-100 years old. And rooms show that.
While in the back they extended hotel with another building, where we stayed, these rooms are very modern and new.

We stayed in the modern annex next to the hotel, the facilities were excellent and it was lovely to be able to use the swimming pool in the spa.

Everything is good, staff were great.

The hotel highlights are the staff. All young but all so incredibly professional and helpful. The room we had was in a newer block and the room was good. It had a Separate patio area. Bed was comfortable. The shower floor did become very slippy when wet and a lot of water does escape from the shower onto the bathroom floor. We tried the restaurant and the food was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast is also included and again was good. We also used the leisure facilities and had a good swim in the pool. The bar was large and very reasonably priced. The town of Kington is a bit tired. Quite a lot of empty units but if your looking for a reasonably priced room and the location works for you I would say give this hotel and the incredible staff a go.

Poor check in check out but nice stay

We arrived for check in and it was a disappointment . We waited for 5 mins at the front desk when a local customer said no one’s been at the desk for ages you may want to ask the bar staff . So I went to the bar and the bar staff looked at me like I had 3 heads and said I don’t deal with that . So I asked who does and where are they . Again he just looked like I had 3 heads . So eventually after 20 minutes I googled the number for the hotel and phoned when the person who was on the front desk came out of the cellar . She couldn’t find our booking and had to check for it . She then showed us to our room which was very nice ( although the bath plug wouldn’t pull out to drain the water ) the food was very nice in the restaurant that night and at breakfast the next morning . The leisure facilities was also very nice with a pool and jacuzzi to relax in . It was very warm in the room but as it was one of the hottest days of the year that was the same everywhere . Upon check out we had another slight issue , a different front desk staff wanted to charge us for the room which we had pre paid . This was quickly resolved showing them the email receipt but again just let the whole check in check out part of it down massively.

Very old building, creaky sloping floors etc! Excellent customer service from Jana! Very good evening meal and cooked breakfast in the morning. Pool etc was good but the water wasn’t warm enough for us!

We had a short (one night) stay but thought the hotel was great. We had free parking right outside our room which came with standard amenities and was spacious. Every member of staff was so friendly and helpful, just so accommodating. We were ready to book in for a family swim session but were so pleased it was free as we were guests, the pool area is lovely and has a lovely hot tub/ sauna. They provided all towels for the spa too so no need to bring your own from your room.
We booked in the restaurant and had no issue booking in with a high chair for our 1yr old, we ordered a light bite for her and the chef was happy to make it smaller for her - they offered this without us requesting.

Breakfast was great, help yourself to fruits/drinks/toast and then order a large plated breakfast from the menu - lots of choice and all really tasty.

The only thing was that our room was absolutely boiling and we could only open a patio door to let some air in, which was fine until we wanted to sleep as it was a fairly climbable wall by the outside road and didn’t feel it was wise to leave it open all night while we slept. Perhaps there was a way to keep it ajar without it being opened from the outside and we didn’t realise.

Overall though, the staff were just super friendly and provided the best customer service, it really makes such a difference when staff are genuinely helpful.

Comfortable but dated room, lovely spa

Met up with a friend and stayed in a twin room which, while being dated, was comfortable. Bedding and curtains obviously newly replaced. Shower was hot. Complimentary toiletries were a bit sad - make sure you bring your own. The lift was out of order and the stairs were narrow and steep to the second floor. The pool was nice and we spent time there relaxing. We ate in the bar. Food was tasty and hot. Staff were all very pleasant and service was good. We got a good deal but I wouldn’t pay more.

Really loved our stay here, comfy bed, clean room with mini fridge, water and tea and coffee making facilities. Leisure club is lovely, needs a few bits and bobs fixed but didn’t affect us. Lockers for your things to be stored in. Robes and slippers in our bedroom, lovely breakfast and we had an awesome time in the bar in the evening served by the lovely Jasmine. The owner of the hotel was so lovely, she clearly works long hours to make sure her customers have a fabulous experience (sorry forgot her name) but she should be very proud of the hotel and staff - definitely would stay here again - the Thai Kitchen a short walk along the road from the hotel is fabulous, highly recommend it too.

Pros. Clean, food good, staff pleasant.
Cons. Old building with uneven floors.
Reception, bar and dining area’s reasonable, bedrooms on the small size.
The hotel basically needs brightening up, e.g new carpets throughout. Bedrooms, please get rid of the dated pine furniture. Could be more inviting, although as stated was clean and enjoyed the food.

Lovely staff very friendly, excellent food and very reasonably priced. Only down side ev charger on council carpark not working so nowhere to charge our car, luckily it’s a hybrid so had to use the petrol engine. Bedroom very dated and bed very hard making sleeping little difficult.

Lovely hotel, great price, great food, great Spa!

A lovely hotel for our overnight stay. Comfortable room with everything we needed. We ate in the restaurant for the evening, the food was lovely and cooked fresh. Cooked reakfast was amazing, catering for vegetarians and meat eaters. We checked out and spent the morning in the Spa which included a pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room.

We found the Burton to be a well-run hotel with friendly and helpful staff. It exemplifies the best of the old-style hotels (i.e., before the rise of global chains) that I remember from 40+ years ago. Not that it is stuffy or hide-bound. The food is a blend of classic and more recent tastes. The spa is excellent with a nice pool for family groups and dedicated swimmers alike. (The steam room, though, could do with more steam.) We stayed during a heat wave but the bedroom was (just) OK for sleeping even without aircon. The surrounding area was new to us but well worth exploring further, so we shall probably be back fairly soon...

The big pool and sauna, whirlpool, steam room that was available; I didn't expect that! We arrived at 4:30 after a day of hiking, and was personally escorted to our room by John. We also opted to dine in that evening. The pub burger I had was super.

A great getaway for all ages.

A lovely weekend away.
The hotel was easy to find with plenty of parking.
All members of staff were welcoming, informative and friendly.
The room and on suite were perfect; a good size, clean and the beds were comfy.
The food (breakfast and dinner) was delicious with a good selection of dishes, the small plates being perfect for children.
My nieces' (who is 8) favorite part was the swimming pool which was a great size, nice changing rooms and towels provided.
The perfect place to stay and enjoy Herefordshire and Brecon area.

Great location

I stayed in Room 14 which is a single room, it was spotlessly clean and the bed was really comfy. The staff at the hotel were fabulous and made the stay very enjoyable. The pool is nice and I can recommend using the spa and having a massage with Gemma. My shoulder had been stiff and locked up for some time and Gemma sorted it out for and I have my flexibility back. The food in the restaurant was delicious.

Great!

Very friendly, helpful and warm welcome. Lovely comfortable room. The food at breakfast and in the restaurant in the evening was very tasty. Superb pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which we made good use of! We had a lovely relaxing weekend. I would definitely recommend a stay here!

Pleasant visit - tempered by pool not being open on Thursday and the gym being closed Thurs and Fri and Saturday (?). Breakfast menu a bit old fashioned and restaurant menu a bit limited if a non-meat eater. Very busy bar. Two wakes in three days?

The Burton Hotel is a bit like going back in time but not for all the right reasons. We stayed in the older part of the hotel that is the original building (there a some newer apartment style buildings out the back by the car park). It clearly hasn’t been updated/renovated for some time and rather than having a feeling of being old and loved, it unfortunately has more of an old and tired feeling about it. The leisure complex was undoubtedly great when new. It the (mens) changing rooms are very much in need of refurbishment. Restaurant food far exceeded our expectations and would happily eat there again, just probably wouldn’t stay there. Also seemed like a £30 bar tab was added to our room but didn’t realise this until we’d checked out. It’s not surprising as every time we asked to put anything on the room John suggested a different room number, none of which were ours. Presumably somebody else failed to correct him when he offered our room number as a suggestion.
