I was there with my family for our vacation. We loved the hotel because it made us feel like we were in the jungle. However, if you’re thinking about getting a Thai massage at the hotel, I suggest going somewhere else. My mom and I were very disappointed with the service; I think they really need more training. Also most of the employees there are Burmese, not Thai.

No USB plugs in the room to recharge phones.
Only a couple of the front staff spoke English, so at times a bit hard to communicate.
A good quiet place to relax at.
A swimming pool for the kids.

Lovely place. The site is spectacular. The staff is friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit. The only downside is that the resort is a four hour plus drive from Bangkok. They say it’s two hours but it’s four hours. Also the food is not great. It’s still a great place.

Beautiful resort, some room for improvement

The resort is really beautiful, the gardens around it amazing and really well kept and the staff is super lovely. There are two beautiful pool areas and the bungalows are amazing, clean, spacious and well equipped. Be aware that the resort is very remote, so if you don't have your own mode of transport, you rely on the tours that the hotel offers and obviously the prices are a little higher with no competition. There isn't much within walking distance to explore.
There is some room for improvement in the kitchen- the food is hit and miss and a bit bland compared how well you normally eat from any street stall in Thailand. At the breakfast buffet there is only filter coffee and black tea, it would be nice to have some variety there.
There is a sign in the room that they are eco friendly and to please hanf up the towels if they don't need to be changed. The staff however is not trained/aware of this and changes out all towels every day, even if everything is neatly hanging.

Staff was excellent. Property was beautiful. I would say I did not like our bungalow smelt like mold/mildew it advertises convenience store. Pat not convenient at all. It costs about 500 baht which today's money close to $15 U.S. not convenient at all

A truly wonderful resort set in a lovely garden in a beautiful location. The staff are very friendly and always very helpful. The bungalows are spacious, well-appointed and very comfortable.

Sometimes you go to a place that is good for the soul. This is River Kwai Resotel. It is so relaxing and refreshing to be there. The environment is serene, the food is great and the staff are so warming and accomdating. I rarely leave reviews, but felt compelled to leave one for this property. It's a 10 out of 10 from me and my family.

Property restaurant is ok, but the service was horrible. Ordered a bottle of white wine- no ice bucket came, ordered 3 cokes and a water which never came until we got them ourself. Had to get back up for glasses, wrong dishes came out after 45min to an hour. Others had came and gone and we didn’t even have our food. One dish came, but with no plates or silverware. It took 10 more minutes to get that, then we had one cold dish. Overall property is nice. The ONLY restaurant available has horrible service.

A hidden oasis of beauty and calmness. The rooms are very well appointed. We chose to drive all the way to the property and had already read reviews about the track leading to the resort...it is not a track, it's a perfectly comfortable road with stunning scenery, so please don't be put off driving there. The views of the river were wonderful, calming and serene. This really is a wonderful resort and one that we will return happily to.

A very beautiful and peaceful resort. The room was big and clean. I liked that the resort is located on a green territory, it felt like living in a park. It was pleasant to walk around and meditate. It is a great escape from big city life.

The only downside was the regular noise from the long tail boats that depart from the resort pier from very early in the morning. Also, the staff uses walkie talkies as they clean the rooms and roam around the terrotory and I found that noise somewhat disturbing.

I liked everything about this property... the setting was lush jungle, but beautifully manicured to be inviting without being overwhelming. And of course, set on the banks of the Khwae Noi River, a tributary to the famous River Kwai (Khwae Yai). The staff provided outstanding service and help.. I couldn't have asked for more.

Everything was excellent, very nice tropical resort.

I arrived by rail at Nam Tok and found transport to the Resortel pier where I caught the long tail boat to the resort with no problem.
The resort is older bus well maintained. It’s location and surroundings are beautiful. I would definitely go back again.
Food at the restaurant was reasonable and acceptable. Staff were friendly.

The hotel is a nice resort in wonderful settings. We travelled there by car and it was OK to find, although you would not want to meet a big lorry coming the other way on the narrow winding road to the hotel.

The rooms are bungalows set in grounds with jungle type vegitation around, so its not surprising to find wildlife too. We found a large spider in our room but was able to capture it and put it outside.

The disappointments were about noise generated by tour groups early in the morning. Tour groups on rapid turnover seem to be the main business for the hotel. Its not then conducive to independent travellers.

The food was not overly good and the tea at breakfast was disgusting. The food and drink was also very expensive. I know the place is a bit out of the way, but its only about twenty minutes drive from Nam Tok where all the usual produce is available.

Beautiful location, right beside the river, the scenery was amazing. The rooms are great, so comfortable. They said WiFi only at reception but there was strong WiFi all the way through the resort. So that was a bonus! And the staff, from the front desk to the restaurant were so friendly and accommodating. I would, and have, recommended to my friends and family.

Great Retreat

This hotel is in a remote location, so if you want to get away from it all - this is your place. Its over 60kms from Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai Museum and Bridge, so a trip to see them can cost between THB1600 - 1800 one way or THB2300 rtn from the hotel.
Set right on the river it is peaceful and tranquil but with nothing around it, so all food and drink must be bought from the hotel and they do charge a premium small Chang beer at THB100.
The restaurant serves reasonable food but they do like staying open past 9.00 p.m.- Breakfast is average.
Rooms are in a fair condition and 'rustic' in nature

I did not know what to expect as I booked this hotel kind of on a whim and in the middle of booking several other hotels. I found out that this hotel was far from the city thanks to a tour guide and was amazed when we actually arrived. It is in a secluded jungle area. Really nice, quiet and different than any other hotel I stayed in.

Fantastic !!!

WiFi was out because of monsoon that they had before we arrived. But walked outside and was able to use phone internet. No biggie...we enjoyed Ewarn Falls at the national park which they helped provide a private car to take us and even found a couple to share the ride and cost. Ended up making new friends from Norway.

A great place for families and couples looking for a jungle get away. The activists they provide include ziplining, canoeing, pool and biking. Only thing I should warn travelers is that the reception for phone service is low. The WiFi did not reach to my room but can sit at the reception area. They shut their WiFi around 9

It is located at a very beautiful location on the other side of River Kwai Noi. There's nothing much to do around the hotel unless you take the boat to the other side of the river. But the service is flawless. You can take the Hotel's long tail boat at almost anytime until 6pm. Breakfast and Dinner buffet are pretty good. Don't expect to stay in and watch TV in the room because you're supposed to go places. TV reception is bad because it is in the jungle.

the hotel has a lot of potential but unfortunately they seem to get major business through tour groups and don't care about maintenance and upkeep (our first room had a balcony with holes and a bench that broke when a 70kg person was trying to sit. the hotel is reachable by car if driving to lawa cave - as such there's significant traffic considering the location.

If you are planning your stay at the river kwai properties especially serenata group of hotels - dont book outside tours on that day - just enjoy the facilities and activities at the resort for a day and then check out and head to our outside tours.

Plus: beautiful, well-maintained gardens: don't miss out on walk towards Lava Cave and Gravel Beach. Nice mini-theatre for shows of local minority people dance performances. Rooms afford privacy and are quiet - perfect for a good night's sleep.
Minus: despite extensive menu on offer, it's not easy to find healthy, non-oily food options and vegetarians are not catered for at all. No mobile phone, 3G reception. Wifi highly unreliable and only if at all available around lobby area. Apart from the Manager who is very friendly and helpful, staff don't exactly go out of their way to be friendly.
A missed opportunity was the fact that the pier on the river was not at all as shown in the picture. It would make such a great dinner venue, but sadly it does not appear to be used for anything other arriving and departing boats.
Resort is about 40km from Hellfire Pass & Museum and 70km from Kanchanaburi city and River Kwai bridge. Having your own car is very handy, if not essential in order to visit these sites.
But all in all, a perfect getaway for a relaxing stay in a most beautiful part of the country.

Ok. But a bit too much like a posh prison.

The hotel is in an amazing part of the world. What I didn't realise is that there are only free transfers from the hotel on arrival and departure. due to its isolation (which is admitabily why I booked it) it's impossible to leave the resort without paying for a longboat transfer (7 min journey costing 1200 baht each way) then the cost of having to book a taxi on top. Or book a very expensive planned activity. The resort was fine. A bit tired in places but that didn't matter as it was in such a great spot. The room was a bit musty but again it's the jungle! It just left a bad taste in my mouth not being able to afford to leave the resort.

We stayed as a group of three couples, each had their own little self contained cabin. It is a delightful location, certainly along the adventure realm. We did a short hike to lava caves, canoeing on the river. Trip up the river in long tail boats. Beautiful food at the restaurant, beautiful location. Night time it is amazing, a get back to nature trip.

Rustic, intriguing, relaxing, comfortable, affordable - all describe the River Kwai Resotel.

At first I second guessed myself and wished I had booked a river "floating" hotel; but after a few minutes at this resort and feeling the warm of it's well attended grounds, and commanding view of the river those thoughts disappeared faster than a mijito on a hot day.

We had a river front duplex cottage that was very comfortable, and had enough enough available electrical outlets to charge two phones and a laptop at the same time. Our washroom had three rooms: toilet, sink/mirror, and shower which would make it good for multi-tasking families.

The included breakfast buffet was a real treat - a solid selection of Asian and Western selections as was the menu items for lunch and dinner - tasty, food that will not disappoint you

The grounds are very well maintained and one could easily spend an afternoon just relaxing and reading at one of several sitting areas; and the intriguing placement of curios from days gone by will satisfy those with unbridled curiosity.

And last but not least the staff - all are so accommodating; it's hard to tell who is management, and who are employees as they all try their very best to meet your needs.

We will return - hopefully as an annual event!

Value for money

Bottled water gets expensive at 30baht for 0.5 litres. There are no shops and you must buy from the hotel. The Wi-Fi is poor and the boat ride is a rip off. If it were not for the nickel and diming experience, I'd have rated this higher.

The resort is farther from the city than we expected and we didn't want to join the resort's expensive tours. It also seemed pricey to hire a driver through the resort. We ended up hiring a taxi driver in Bangkok to drive us to the resort and drive us around each day. He charged 1500 thb per day but we gave him 1800 since we were so pleased that it was much cheaper than the resort's rate.

It was worth it for the location. It was great to stay in such a lovely natural environment. The short boat rides were really fun!! The breakfast buffet is so so, but the rest of the food we had was better than many of the reviews here warned. However, we did not eat the dinner buffet which didn't look that great, and we ate no western food. The Thai dishes we ordered were usually quite tasty.

Very remote. Nice hotel would recommend to anyone. Only problem was getting ride from drop off point to hotel. Since you have to take a boat to get to hotel, there was no way to set up a boat to be ready. Didn't realize this when I made the reservation, everything worked out ok. I felt like I took back a step in time. Staff very accomodating and helpful to make arrangements for rides and excursions.

We had a fantastic stay at the resotel. It was great for rejuvenating our souls. There is plenty to do in close proximity with Lawa Cave in walking distance, elephant riding, waterfalls, etc. If you are a nature lover, this is the place to be. The chef's recommendations are excellent, but breakfast is a little lacklustre.

My son and I stayed there in September 2013 for one evening. It is a great, secluded place on the quiet, milk-chocolate brown river. The hotel is far enough north of Kanchanaburi city that you do not get the crowded (and loud) party barges going by. It was a very nice place for a get-away. Plus the rooms are clean with great A/C. And the best part was that it is very reasonably priced. We would definitely visit again.

Not what I expected

We came to the Resotel for two nights.The first night we arrived late and were helped ok to find our room. The room was ok, but had insects in the bathroom and badly running sinks. When we wanted to go for some sightseeing the next day we asked for a taxi through the hotel. They named a rediculous price for a trip just to the next town. We tried getting there on our own and that worked out eventually when we got a lift from some friendly travellers who had allready booked a taxi. Goin back was even worse, we found out that hitch hiking is quite doable in Thailand! But we still had to walk a lot. At the day of our departure we again where heavily overcharged on the taxi costs but this time we had no choice. Conclusion, the location was beautiful but very inconvienent if you are travelling without prebooked trips. The room was ok but nothing more than that. The food was ok or even less with not a lot of choice during breakfast. We will not return to this hotel.

A charming experience in the middle of the jungle. Pity we only stayed one night! it´s located deep in the jungle, the only sounds you hear are birds, frogs, and other animals... simply balm for your soul. Friendly and helpful staff, nice food, we were surprised to hear that we had music on our stay, which was a great guitar player sampling classics in a new and interesting key.
We will definitely go back. Convenient located for the Tiger temple, River Kwai bridge and trekking.

Considérablement déçu....

J ai réservé ce resort au vu des commentaires trés positifs,j aurai mieux fait de m abstenir.
A part l arrivée folklorique qui se fait en pirogue jusqu'au resort,il n y a rien d'exceptionnel.
À l arrivée,pas de staff pour porter les valises alors que le chemin est assez raide pour se rendre à la réception.
La majorité du staff ne parle pas anglais ,sauf TukTuk qui s occupe à la fois de la réception et du bureau excursions,et qui est donc beaucoup trop sollicitée et débordée.
Excursions non disponibles(pas d éléphant pour un trekking car trop vieux ou pas de vélos car ce n'est pas la saison:cherchez l erreur!
Sinon,excursions beaucoup trop chères ,exemple:30 minutes de pirogues :1000 baths...c'est abusé.
L hôtel a le monopole de la restauration et de tout le reste,donc tout est trop cher et moyennement encadré :amateurisme flagrant !
De nombreux touristes bruyants de passage pour une nuit via les tours operateurs.
Mais où est donc le côté authentique de la jungle et du calme décrits dans certains commentaires?!??!?!
Nourriture assez bonnes,mais onéreuses.
Bungalows bien emménagés,mais évitez ceux proches de la rivière et de la piscine/bâtiment d acceuil car trop bruyants.(va-et-viens des pirogues et touristes peu discrets).
J ai également payé 2 fois la même addition,mais impossible de prouver ma bonne foi:des escrocs?!?!?
En résumé,les merveilleuses photos sur le site ne reflètent en aucun cas la réalité.....

Un 10 en paisajismo y decoración.

El paisajismo y la decoración están cuidados en extremo. Las cabañas en sí son muy bonitas y confortables. Cama cómoda y baño funcional. El restaurante tiene mucha variedad y la comida está buena. Piscina con horario amplio.Wifi únicamente en las zonas comunes pero con muy buena velocidad. A un paseo de Lawa Cave, unas cuevas bastante chulas para visitar. El resto de las visitas interesante del parque están en la otra orilla pero el hotel tiene servicio gratuito de transporte para cruzar a la otra orilla; una vez allí una carreterita de dos kilómetros te lleva a la "main road" donde tiene justo parada el autobús que recorre el parque de norte a sur con parada en las principales atracciones.
El hotel es un auténtico paraíso ensombrecido por algunos puntos negativos que supongo irán solucionando. Las toallas, tanto de la habitación como de la piscina estaban en un estado lamentable. El desayuno no estaba a la altura, los contenedores de comida estaban sin tapar con los mosquitos rondando, esto era debido en parte al siguiente punto negativo: el personal. El personal parecía poco entrenado para el trabajo. En el desayuno el personal del hotel no tenía ningún indicativo por lo que no sabías bien a quien dirigirte con posibles consultas o solicitudes. El hotel todavía tiene cabañas sin acabar por lo que el ruido de las obras por las mañanas rompe la paz del lugar.
