We enjoyed our stay, excellent position, beach, room, etc. Our only disappointment was the lack of availability of the Internet in our room for 4-5 days. For myself, being unilingual in English the TV choices were limited and so, for 2 nights we watched Netflix movies on computer. When the internet was not working we had no entertainment choices. This marred what would have been a perfect vacation.

Staff spoke limited English and not very friendly except Livio he was wonderful. Very helpful and friendly and spoke English and many languages. He greeted everyone there. The property is run down, food mediocre and very limited. It’s a 30 minute taxi ride to the port or airport. The rooms are very noisy. Bring earplugs.

The hotel is placed right on the beach with lovely views from all rooms. The bedroom was large clean and comfortable with an outside dining area on the balcony. There was also a fridge, microwave, everything if you wanted to self cater. The breakfast was plentiful with a good choice and a lovely view of the sandy beach. The restaurant provided a set evening meal selection which changed each night. This was not included in the price but was very good and reasonable. There is a very small food shop near the foyer and it has a very very limited selection of food. The hotel has a swimming pool with sunloungers. All areas are kept clean and tidy inside and out, including the beach area which belongs to the hotel. A really relaxing place.

They had a very nice pool and a beach with direct access. Dining options were poor. Very limited menu at night served buffet style. No option to order food brought to the table.

Canella Beach is a solid 3 star resort and a great value . It has a wonderful beach front - with great lounges & umbrellas, access to a tasty snack shop, and is cleaned & groomed every morning. The rooms are most comfortable & roomy Every room has a kitchenette which is a nice feature. The grounds/ gardens are well maintained & nicely planted with tropical plantings. The pool is good size, surrounded by nice pool lounges & also offers a hot tub. The hotel provides plush beach towels for their guests. A most complete breakfast buffet is included in the room rate- and includes fresh local fruits, pane au chocolat, croissants, & french rolls- and toast- as well as eggs (scrambled soft boiled or hard boiled), breakfast meats, brie, tropical jellies, yogurts, fresh juices & coffee-plus the makings for Cafe au Lait. There is noticeable efforts to improve / paint -replaster exteriors of the hotel- which is painted in bright tropical colors There is reliable taxi services arranged through the hotel for airport travels- as well as around the island. Available is an excursion director ( Dina) who is at the hotel Mon- Fri 8-10am - who offers excellent tours around Guadeloupe We booked full day tours of Grande Terre, Basse Terre, a snorkeling 1/2 day trip, and visited the very fine Aquarium & Zoo and Botanical Gardens. All excellent. Car rentals/ a small grocery(epicerie)/ gift shop, & restaurants are a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Even I saw many negative reviews about the staff I think they are brilliant. Very nice and helpful all the time. We had duplex apartment which was best option with the most beautiful view (both ocean and pool side) i have ever had. The room was very clean, wide and comfortable. They cleaned the pool every morning. The breakfast was enough variable for us, so we enjoyed it every morning (only the coffee was not good). The beach was like private and was good spot for pictures but the seawater in the area was not pure enough. Anyway the locaton gave us an option to experience other beaches. Ideal option for people who don't want to rent a car - just 5 to 15min walking to many bus stops including one for the bus to the airport. Many shops around.

We reserved a superior room which was actually very basic with broken or out dated fittings. There was dust in the ledges and room service forgot to make my bed.

The pool seemed to be open all hours so we were disturbed at 2.00am from the noise of bathers.

We choose for proximity to airport.

The beach was nice and secluded but we were unable to swim out due to large seagulls in the water.

Satisfying \"home base\" for Island exploration

The beach is tiny but adequate for watching morning rainbows and evening sunsets. It is kept clean and when we were there (in February) there were always seats. The facilities are NOT fancy, but are maintained well and the staff is very cordial and nice -- only one or two of the front desk people speak English, but as they may be the only english-speaking people on the entire island (apart from Club Med staff and the highest-end restaurants) I think that's a pretty good ratio. Pool is clean and generally full of families with kids. The whole place is very very French - most of what you do is at your own risk, and casually easygoing. The hotel's restaurant is good for a basic continental breakfast: it is the same offerings every day: scrambled eggs, sausage, cold cuts with cheese, baguettes, croissants, pain-au-chocolate, and the usual french coffee, cocoa and hot milk. Good selection of varying fresh fruit juices (two per day) and lots of simple fresh fruit (bananas watermelon pineapples, etc) and yogurt. It's not fancy, but it is screened in on the porch and plentiful. The dinner we ate there was not as great - though the selection seemed to have been good, we arrived when they were almost done so for a rather high price we got the dregs of food. They seem to only have buffet (but it isn't all-you-can eat!) and not a la carte.

Our room was very spacious, with tile floor and a small balcony on which you could cook and eat. Mini fridge/dishes for 4 adequate for our needs.

The hotel is 20 minutes from the airport. There are good restaurants and bars near the hotel. Car rentals are near the hotel. Food stores (fruits, veggies, bakery) are at a walkable distance. A supermarket (Leader Price) is few minutes away by car. The hotel has a small but nice beach at a perfect location: the bay prevents wind and waves. The staff is very nice. There is a nice pool. Most of the visitors were families with kids. We got a room for 4. The room had 2 separate rooms, very spacious. Don't forget a spray against mosquitos. If you want a really good beach, drive east to Bois Jolan but it's more windy and wavy there. Beaches on Basse-Terre are better but rainier. You need to plan your drive back to the airport due to the traffic and partial absence of signs.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.

This is a terrible property. Totally over priced for what it is (1 star is being generous). The internet is completely flaky. Does not work in the rooms. The hotel was filthy - including the lobby and pool area. The beach is over run with sand fleas. On the morning of our check out the water stopped completely in our room and we were unable to have showers before our flight home. It is disgraceful.

My friends and I arrived in Guadeloupe 2.5 hrs late due to the ferry issues. Our initial hotel had a burst water pipe, so I quickly found theCanella Beach Hotel on Expedia. The hotel staff were very friendly, and the fact that the hotel was right on the beach was very convenient. My only complaint was with the air conditioning unit in our room. It didn't work very well, so our room never cooled down to the point where we were comfortable. The breakfast buffet wasn't bad either. Overall, for what we paid for the hotel, it was worth the price.

Central location on the island. Having a breakfast and plenty of space in a 2-room unit were pluses. But the kitchen and bathroom supplies were lacking, and the wi fi for Internet was terrible. It didn't work in the room at all. The only hot spot we found was at the restaurant by the beach. Internet is essential for modern travel. If you don't have it, please don't claim that you do.

The beach is phenomenal

We arrived later in the day, a little after 11pm. Thankfully, there was a front desk person. He didn't speak much English though. We got a duplex room which has two separate doors to access it; they only give you one key per door despite there being 3 of us. We got the keys and went all the way upstairs to the room only to find neither of the keys worked. We go back down and he says the room number he gave is incorrect. Back up and they still don't work. Finally back down to reactivate the keys for the first room. It was a bit much at almost midnight, just coming in.
As far as the room, it was a lot more spacious than I imagined. The bathrooms were the only thing that was actually updated though. There was a rooftop with a mini fridge and stovetop but it hadn't been cleaned/maintained for a while and there were ants everywhere. The view was nice however. Breakfast was pretty standard, some pastries, coffee, juice, eggs, fruit. The only issue was there were ants all around the table where they had the coffee and juice. There are some local restaurants in the area, within walking distance and a casino. So that was nice. But the best part of the hotel, as I'm sure many have already mentioned, was the beach. The view is absolutely breathtaking. Aside from that, don't expect much else. We were only there 2days. It was okay for the price but if it had been longer I'd probably pay a little bit extra to stay somewhere nicer. The hotel design is nice, it just needs updating.

The service was horrible, we booked a junior suite, their Junior suite was equivalent to a regular hotel room. There wasn't any parking, slow internet acces, no business center, no iron on ironing table in the room, no safe to leave our passport. They advertise 2 restaurant, one was never opened, the one opened was rented for a private while Hotel guest were eating, There was a bootcamp for local teenagers that began with pounding music at 6:00 am. Very bad experience with this Time share turned hotel, they should have stayed in the time share businesses.

The staff in the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. We came on a holiday weekend, forgot our adaptors, and everything was closed. They let us charge our phones throughout the weekend and called cabs because we did not have French numbers.

The room, however left much to be desired. The room was old and the grout was extremely dirty to the point that keeping shoes on in the room and shower was an absolute necessity. The pillows were okay but the bed was hard. The sofa bed was NOT a sofa bed; there was no mattress on it and did not allow for restful sleep.

I was surprised that the hotel was so expensive but the room was so run down. Also, the cab service (although not affiliated directly with the hotel) was unreliable. You need to rent a car. The private beach was very nice and had many activities so we did not book any outside tours.

We had an excellent stay here. The rooms are spacious and include kitchenette facilities. The breakfast was fine and they have a reasonably priced buffet in the evening with live music. The location is central for visiting all destination around the island.

Who makes beds this hard???

I really wanted to like this hotel. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The hotel has a lot of potential, but is run down and outdated. Let's start with the positives: the floor plan of the rooms is awesome. Our room had an upstairs area with a separate bathroom and two twin beds and a main floor area with a king size bed and a roll-away. It was a wonderful layout for my family of five. The room was clean and spacious. Now for the not-so-positives: who makes beds this hard??? It felt like I was sleeping on a rock. I woke up after sleeping on my side for about an hour and my hip was aching terribly and my leg was asleep from sleeping on the slab. The room was not well-maintained. Missing caulking and shabby repair jobs along with a cracked sink and a missing shower door made this hotel a prime candidate for the next episode of \"Hotel Impossible\". A small shuttered opening inside the shower opened to the hallway outside the room, and the shutters were broken, so if pressed from outside, passing guests could have had a nice peep show -- odd to say the least. The poor repair work of the past left rough edges that were impossible to clean, and although on the surface, the room was very clean, there was long-standing grime and dirt around the edges that made you feel like you were in a 100 year-old home. We only stayed here for one night, waiting for a flight the following day. It was adequate for that purpose, but I would never stay here for a pleasure trip.

Nice welcome, but not the easiest place to find in the dark. Very good size room (duplex), kitchenette on balcony, beds for 6, sea and beach views from two sides. Bathroom a bit small and tired. Overall feel was a bit shabby. Wifi didn't work at the extremity of the building. Complementary breakfast was very good and restaurant overlooked the beach. Excellent place for first couple of nights as near the airport (20 mins drive), but lacked a quality feel for a longer stay.

Past its best

Only stayed one night. Hotel past its best shabby. Room clean. Area run down, beach littered with rubbish, broken electric lights with exposed wires. Swimming pool had a good safty barrier and looked very clean. Reception staff very helpful. No nearby shops for self catering

Canella Beach hotel should be 2 star

The hotel is tired , chipped tiles in the bathroom, gaps in the grout, chipped paint work, inefficient ac. The beach is pretty, but the rest of the area surrounding the hotel is dire. One side is the brackish water of the mangroves, so you get a bad smell in the bathroom which was on the mangrove side, as well as a lot Mosquitos. There are no mosquito screens.
In the kitchen area, a fridge and two electric rings. One pan 3knives and two forks were all that was supplied.
We consider this hotel to be two star and over priced.

No Hair Dryer

No hair dryer in the room! You have to go to front desk to borrow one then return it when you're done. Who does this?

Clean hotel near the Beach, Casino and Restaurant

The Hotel was whaat we needed for the one night we were on the island waiting for our flight.
It is well situated, near the beach, Casino and Resturant in \"Le Gosier\". It is not to far from the airport, will cost between 25 to 35 euros to get to airport (Depending on time of day or day)

Nice stay

Staff was nice, the place to take breakfast is amazing. it's better to rent a car even the hotel is close to very nice restaurants. Hotel looks old but very cosy. I rent a studio and there were cleaning it everyday

Cheapest beach hotel in Guadeloupe

Cheap, compared to the rest in the neighborhood, quite clean, couples/family-oriented hotel with a tiny stretch of beach. The sea water is by far not perfect but the pool+jacuzzi and the nearby free-access hotel beaches can compensate for that. There can be entire days (especially public holidays) with no food or drinks available beside the breakfast(included, but the same every day) to 9:30 and the dinner (pricey for the quality, there are a lot of other options within walking distance from the hotel) after 19:00. There is a vending machine available so always have change in your pocket. Plenty of marine activities right off the beach but most require some French. All of the receptionists know English but knowing a few words in French will make your trip much more bearable in Gwada (Guadeloupe).

Friendly and convenient

The building looks run-down but everything works fine. At registration, I asked for a room with a nice view and got it. the restaurant in site is good and convenient, the staff friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Good for the price. Not so close to the airport.

Wonderful beach location with great views

We only stayed one night in this hotel, but wished we were able to stay for longer. Great room, with kitchenette on the balcony overlooking the pool and the beach. Helpful service, only downside was the lift wasn't working on the day we were there.

Great Hotel

This hotel is ideally located at the beach front. The restaurant is on the beach which makes it very nice.. the hotel is very big and quite comfortable. The wifi is poor though.. very poor ! Other than that, I would recommend this hotel as a vacation/business spot.
