Excellent stay, unfortunate spa facilities

Great stay at the Blue Water Hotel. The view is incredible, overseeing the beach and beautiful hotel layout. The rooms are very nice too but could do with a little bit of updating minor details. The pool is HUGE with plenty of privacy. There is a beach that the hotel overlooks too which you can access.
The only downside was that the whole steam room, sauna and jacuzzi was down for maintaince so couldn’t enjoy the spa facilities. The massage prices are also way too high for the country.

Our 3rd time at The Blue Water and it never disappoints. Kushuni and Chamal deserve special mentions as they go above and beyond the service expected. We will be back as soon as we can. Thanks to The Blue Water Hotel again for making our visit to Sri Lanka an absolute pleasure .

Nice hotel but suites amenities missing

We opted for the Executive Suite, which was offered with some special services (special restaurant, lounge for drinks and happy hour), etc., that were not operating due to Covid. It’s a nice, comfortable hotel with professional, kind staff, but I would advice booking the basic rooms until they get things sorted.

Perfect for relaxation.Fantastic food at reasonable prices. Wine a bit on the high side.We stayed in a club suite which had extras like free cocktails, butler service and use of the excutive lounge for teas ,coffees and fresh juice and soft drinks. Hotel was immaculate in all ways.

Stay away if you want to relax

Beware!! Don’t stay at this hotel if you want to relax and sit by the pool. This hotel has less than 100 sunloungers to accommodate over 250 guests. If you don’t get up early, or pay the pool attendant to reserve your sun lounger, you will receive a tatty bit of foam and a towel to sit on the floor until something becomes available. The pool is dirty and green unlike the crystal blue waters as shown. The rooms are dirty with lights falling out the ceiling and cockroaches on the floor.

The club lounge access is a joke which is leftover food from breakfast

Friendly and helpful reception staff. Food and beverage services at the restaurant were somewhat satisfactory; however, only a very few stand-outs in the buffet spread. Restaurant staff were swift.

Bathroom cleanliness was an issue; when checked in, dirty, wet tissue was found in the dirty toothbrush holder; toilet seemed to have not been cleaned as it had toilet paper in it and was not flushed. The phone wreaked of musty odour that would not go away after house keeping cleaned it with alcohol. Balcony and balcony furniture were dirty. Overall, the property needs some attention.

The adjacent beach is rather small and had dogs and cows roaming about. The dogs were on the property too.

The pools were the highlight. Coconut trees on the property added to the resort feel. The live band during my one night stay was very good and enjoyable.

Overall, poor value for the money.

Wonderful stay!

The place was amazing! Food was divine! Great stay although they need to try not do loud construction or repairs in adjoining rooms where the guests occupy. But all on all it was a great holiday with the staff being as accommodating and helpful all the way. Great place to relax!

Very disppointing service

Spent 2 nights here with family recently. The room was clean and well-equipped with what we needed. Very comfy bed and had a great sleep. However the downside was the service, in particular the difference we observed from the point of check-in in how we were treated (as Sri Lankans) vs other foreign guests. We had to ask several times for simple things like tea and coffee at breakfast before we actually received it. Given the disappointing service (apart from a lovely waiter at the Seven Seas a la carte restaurant on our last night), we wouldn't recommend this hotel again and won't be visiting in the future.

Great hotel, excellent pool. Close to Colombo

Very enjoyable stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel put up a great Sinhala New Year celebration and the kids enjoyed this event.
The only comment would be that the bathroom can do with a good scrub and clean.

A little disappointed with one aspect of our stay. I booked a Superior Deluxe Sea View room, but they didn't have one when I checked in. They upgraded us to a Club Suite, which was a bigger room, but the room was at the corner of the property and didn't have a Sea view.

Hotel for relaxing

Nice and relaxing with friendly staff. We stayed over new year for a week and the hotel was not over crowded so there was no scrum for sun beds etc... We had b&b and the breakfasts were very good. The gym staff are excellent and very helpful. I do think for a 4* the aminites such as communal toilets are not up to standard and a little more attention to the hotel feeling plush would certianly enhance the 4* experience that would further enhance the experience of this hotel.

Do not waste your money

Have been travelling in Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Singapore. Also in the past Malaysia and Phuket. This hotel is completely overrated, V. expensive for the service provided. Staff has no idea how to look after guest. Hotel pool was under construction but the customers were not informed when booking, no apologies at the counter or later.
All ponds are empty, can see only the dirty water. The hotel is hired to local banks etc for training purposes, during the break those guest sit on other guest who hire rooms. It was terrifying experience for my daughters.
Beach ? what ? there is no beach, dirty never seen anything like that. Staff not even bothered. Locals outside the hotels too don't have much regards anymore. Don't waste your money and patients on this hotel. ex Sri Lankan now living in Sydney. thanks.

Worst experience ever...

A very bad experience, and we are highly disappointed that we stayed at Blue Water. Starting from the beginning, our check-in details were not updated in their system and they were saying that it's a system error and asked for e-mail verification, which was very annoying. We booked 3 rooms but only one was ready and we had to stay for 2 hours until the other 2 rooms were ready. To make it even worse, the Air Conditioner of the room was not working properly and it was very warm in the room. We complained more than 4 times, but the issue was not attended properly. The bathroom did not have a bidet shower, which was very uncomfortable. The appliances of the room were very old, and definitely not up to the 5 star standard. The flush of the bathroom was not working, and no one came to even see what the matter was. The only plus point at the hotel was the buffet, which was very tasty. Highly unsatisfied and will never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Absolutely lovely hotel right by the ocean beach

One reason for which i decided to stop at this hotel was its location on the beach by the ocean, the rooms look and spacious green territory for relaxation with multiple pools. I don't regret a minute that I made this choice! It was absolutely worth it! The price reasonable for an excellent service quality! Very clean and extremely comfortable and homey rooms! Soft beds, sofa in the room and patio on top of everything! Every room is with view and patio! Isn't that amazing? And falling asleep every night with the balcony door open while hearing the ocean was just like paradise! The staff were very lovely and helpful, and they allowed me to chek out later than usual, which i appreciate as extra mile! Room cleaned regularly and provided every afternoon with that staff against insects/mosquitos. There was a guy Ravi Rasika from the restaurant whose profesionalism and pleasant approach i liked a lot! I adored the big green territory where you can relax and enjoy the sun literally while tanning on the grass by the pool, or under the shadowy palm trees, or even few meters away on the beach by the ocean! Squirrels and birds will keep you sometimes company as well, so you could even feed them to keep them come closer to you. The buffet option was nice and with a quite varied choice for dinner, lunch or breakfast to keep you full for hours ahead! As well is great the varied perfomers programe that hotel would offer every evening for a more pleasant stay and evenings.

Not a 5 star hotel in my book

Location is good directly on the beach and with a nice garden for sun worshippers.Room and balcony are run down and require urgent maintenance. Breakfast is OK 6/7 out of ten but not 5 star quality and variety like 5 star hotels in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singaore which standards we are used to.Lunch in the Nautilus premium restaurant where we were the sole diners was excellent, both food quality and service.Would we stay again, probably not but this applies to almost all Sri Lankan hotels.

Great Hotel

We ended up here after a self designed tour of Sri Lanka. It is an excellent hotel and the service was second to none. It has wonderful gardens and as swimmers we appreciated the very impressive pool. We used two of the restaurants and found the food good. It was a great climax to our holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the facilities the hotel offered.

Fantastic hotel all round

We stayed for 5 days during the rainy season. Hotel staff were fantastic from start to finish; everyone was so friendly and helpful. The hotel has three restaurants, all of which were outstanding, especially Nautilus with their fabulous seafood. Having said that, Seven Seas, advertised as a 24 hour coffee shop, was also amazing. It was practically gourmet food. Photos on the website do not do the hotel justice, especially the pool and grassy sunbathing area.

Incredibly friendly staff, beautiful architecture

We had a wonderful week, the staff were very sincere and always went out of their way and although the hotel is now bigger with the addition of extra rooms , it always felt personal and individual. Their website doesn't fully convey how stylish and contemporary the environment is .
