We were not properly welcomed and it took almost an hour to check in. Room smelled bad. Had to ask for towels. Nasty beach. Worn out furniture. Not comfortable bed. Food bad quality.

The rooms are very nice with the perfect view of the pool and ocean. There is unfortunately no swimming allowed in the ocean in front of the hotel. We found the staff a little unorganized at times but would still highly recommend this hotel.

From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out the staff made this a wonderful place to stay. Not once did we feel we were being taken advantage of. We were impressed with all the facilities and the lovely ambience and decor of the hotel. The pool and gardens were beautifully maintained and all the added benefits such as the gym, spa and Comfortable sun loungers scattered around the palm fringed gardens were really appreciated. We were not full board but dined in the FB restaurant and we’re really surprised that the quality of the food offered. The à la cart menu was also extensive and tasty and not expensive. There was also plenty of choice at breakfast time. I would highly recommend this please to anybody looking for a good comfortable hotel at an affordable price.

After a long flight, we managed to check in , even if was like after 2 hours waiting for a room, no welcome drink.... we did message the hotel to inform them that we arrive early in the morning but no response. Other than that no faulty. The place is very clean, they provide water, fridge, toiletries, everything you need. They even done the bed for us in the evening.
The staff is so attentive and polite. They are very happy and chatty.
The swimming pool is cleaned every night .
The really enjoyed our stay!

Good choice for Kalutara region in SL

Good choice for this part of Sri Lanka coast. It is not amy of these show off glittering hotels. Simple and modest but comfy typical Sri Lankan hotel of reasonable size and good location. Excellent and hard working stuff. Tips: if booked be sure to book deluxe area rooms. They are better located, more spacious and better equipped. Some say the hotel is a lil' shabby and old but this is something that I like and this makes show off tourist are not there to be met :-)

It has extremely friendly staff and they try harder to accommodate visitors in their level best. Food and beverage manager and his staff were very kind and my 3 year old son was fed with some custom food. They have snack room in between core meals by making sure visitors never get hungry. They had a good food buffet. Pool , sport room, wellness programs were very accommodating. Evening live music was every entertaining. I would recommend as improvements to improve the property with more nice interior decos, free from flies, insects, mosquito as much as possible in the outside and grow some water lilies in their surrounding ponds.

Personally I found the staff worked very long hours and they seemed short staffed and this was noticed at meal times.
Two things really irritated me was the fact that you had sales people on both ends of the hotel trying to sell you trips and so forth and it was really annoying as the second you stepped outside the complex they would pester every day and the other thing was the wild dogs on the beach directly behind the hotel and simply the beach is not suitable to sunbath.
The pool and rooms were very clean and always enough sunbeds and the volley ball etc was great fun.
The entertainment was very low key indeed and often not much going on in the evening after dinner.
Also check your booking carefully and confirm as they seem to over book their rooms and Hotels.com received priority over some other travellers and I witnesses one or two heated travellers with issues with bookings and rooms , so make sure you are 100% staying and room type etc.
We were told that we could not stay the second week but we ignored it as we had a confirmed booking with Hotels.com and we emailed Hotels.com with the issue and heard no more, but it was a bit unsettling .
Overall I feel it is very expensive for what is being offered and I am in no rush to return to this resort.

Nice hotel with good views for all of the rooms. It is quite accesible (max. 2 hours by car IF you take the highway)... Overall a good experience. The only small con is that if there is a lot of rain, the internet goes out... but the staff did manage the situation in a timely fashion...

Great hotel

Mermaid is a little Gem. Something you will always want to keep. The staff especially Dilan for his lovely cocktails and Prasanna with his magic tricks at the bar. The restaurant staff were so attentive I felt like a royal. This really is a little but of paradise. Lovely breeze blows across the hotel making the heat very bearable. Cocktail invitation where we met and chatted to the owner. Lovely funny man. He should be very proud of this hotel. I am surprised this is a 3 star hotel. It definitely has 5 star service. We used the hotel to arrange our trip to pinawella the elephant orphanage. Lovely day and very informative. The sea is a little rough with waves and riptides but if you are a strong swimmer then you should dive straight in. The hotel looks straight onto the beach but you will be surrounded by the beach traders trying to get you to go on trips with them. Also the ladies beckon you to buy their sarongs.

Great service and excellent value

The staff were fantastic. The food was very good, especially the vegetarian curries. Hygiene standards were very high. The facilities were fine; a good sized pool, plenty of sun-loungers and an ok gym. The spa is worth visiting - excellent massages.

Lovely hotel

This holiday trip was all about resting and relaxing and we did that in style. The hotel is being updated and modernized but as a whole, it's a lovely hotel, great variety of food, opportunities to do more if you wish and overall friendly people. It's a little out there in location (about an hour and a half from the airport) but you can see how there are more hotels being built in the area. We fully intend to visit more of Sri Lanka when we come back.

not worth it for the money

we stayed for 2 nights the Hotel was very pleasant and welcoming very nice :)
But it's a type of Hotel which you can stay all day at the pool and relax. Unfortunately if you wanna have a good spot to suntan you ned to be fast and early!

Overall the Hotel did look nice and the employers where verry helpfull, the rooms was just to old and to pricy!

We were welcomed on arrival by the front of house Manager and staff, checked in and shown to our rooms,all very efficiently and very warmly.
Front of house Manager said to contact her or staff if we needed anything.
The rooms were comfortable and on arrival very clean. The restaurant served an amazing selection of food, European and Sri Lankan, and never the same 2 days running
The Hotel closes in May for a referb and in some parts it is needed,ie restaurant
The main stay of this Hotel in the staff, friendly, entertaining and nothing was too much for any of them, a lovely stay ,thank you

Great resort right on the beach

We spent 3 nights here, and felt thoroughly relaxed. It is an easy 40 minute train ride from Mt Lavinia to Wadduwa Station and then a tuk tuk to the resort. . My young son found plenty to do - playing in the pool, collecting shells and coral on the beach and splashing around with the local children. The waves were a bit rough for us to spend a lot of time beach swimming. The meals are great - if you like buffets, make sure you get the all-inclusive deal as it was good value. We enjoyed the evening entertainment and everyone was made to feel like a friend. If I had one concern, it would be the staff hinting for tips - they are told not to ask, but there were many times that we felt uncomfortable as they shared with us how expensive this and that was, one even approached my four year old and asked for his shoes and toys for their kids (he did not know what to do). PS. We always make a habit of tipping, so these hints were not necessary!!

Located on the Beach front

We had a 2 day stay at this hotel on the final 2 days of our visit.

On arrival we received a warm welcome and a cold drink, which was welcome. During our stay we had a sea facing room on the first floor, with a balcony. It however wasn't very private as we had to close the curtains whenever we we were in the room as a group of local boys seemed to hang about on the beach front, looking into the rooms.

Compared to other hotels we stayed in during our Sri Lanka visit, we would rate this hotel as a 2 star. This would be due to the quality and variety of meals available - both at breakfast and dinner.

The shower room facilties could do with an uplift. It only offered lukewarm water during our stay and unlike other hotels did not offer standard toiletries such as shower cap and body lotion.

Amazing Service, Oustanding Value & Delicious Food

We recently stayed at this hotel after many visits to Sri Lanka. This would have to be one of the top three hotels in Sri Lanka for its personalised service, delicious local food and outstanding value for money.
We particularly enjoyed the view from the restaurant overlooking the pool and beach. As well as the many activities that are planned during the day, to keep us occupied.

Great view

The hotel has a wonderful view, there are Palm trees everywhere and it's super relaxing. Good for an escape. I did a yoga class on the beach and loved it. The pool could be better, but it's still nice and relaxing and this was a great value for the money. Food was good, view is great and staff was very helpful. I don't recommend taking the hotel's taxi driver - the man was very kind but drove about half the speed limit on the highway, couldn't see very well, and almost caused a few accidents because he swerves lanes a lot. This is coming from someone very comfortable in insane traffic (grew up in Africa and the Middle East), but not comfortable when the driver doesnt have the know how. We were lucky we only had a few close calls but someone else might not be so lucky.

Отдыхали с мужем и с друзьями(большой компанией).
Было весело. В отеле почти каждый вечер проводили небольшие развлекательные мероприятия. Живая музыка, танцы, файер шоу. Прикольно.
Завтраки обычные, не разнообразные, но нормально.
Бассейн чистый, территория ухоженная, бегают маленькие барсучки, Лежаков достаточно, каждое утро раскладывали матрасы и свежие полотенца. Отель нам понравился. Океан конечно бушевал, но купались.В Шри Ланке мы были первый раз. Хорошая страна и добрые люди.

Durchschnittshotel mit freundlichem Personal

Vielleicht dadurch bedingt, dass dem Sonntag der Unabhänigkeitstag (Feiertag) folgte, war der Check-in etwas sehr holprig und dauerte ewig. Die Zimmer sind hell, sauber und geräumig. Das große Bad bietet ebenfalls ausreichend Platz für eine Vielzahl von Utensilien. Der Wasserdruck ist für die Verhältnisse auf Sri Lanka überdurchschnittlich. Das gastronomische Umfeld ist deutlich schlechter als in Hukkaduwa und leider wird dem Defizit im Hotel nicht ausreichend Rechnung getragen (vgl. Bewertung der Gastronomie im Hotel). Positiv zu bewerten ist, dass die Liegen im Garten erst vollständig mit einer Art Leintuch überzogen werden, bevor das Handtuch drauf gelegt wird. Dieser hygienische Vorteil geht natürlich zu Lasten der Umwelt. Das Personal ist wie nahezu überall auf der Insel sehr freundlich, zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit. Den Laden gegenüber der Einfahrt sollte man unbedingt meiden, da er vergleichsweise unverschämt hohe Preise (teilweise dreimal teurer) hat. Das Umfeld mit Cafes, Läden und Restaurants erscheint in Hukkaduwa einladender.

Fazit: Durchschnittshotel und es gibt sicherlich bessere und interessantere Orte zum Verweilen

Minor errors like cold showers for a few hours etc. But the impression is a very caring hotel. Food is pretty nice as well. Not much more expensive than the beach restaurants. Didn´t fancy the Loud AC.

2月10日、11日と2泊させていただきましたが、明るい雰囲気とビーチから眺められる美しいサンセット、そしてフレンドリーなスタッフがたくさんいるホテル。ヨーロッパ冬の寒さを避けて日光浴のために長期滞在されている年輩の方が多く見られ、滞在中は日本人は私たちだけ。ゆったり過ごせました。特にスポーツセンターは、ほぼ貸し切り状態で、スタッフが卓球をやってくれたり、私たちのために特別にサンセットヨガも開催してくれました。国際色豊かなプールでのアクアビクスも楽しかったです。アーユルベーダトリートメントも受けましたが、雰囲気も良く、最高でした。食事も、毎回変わり、料金の割には美味しく、種類も多く、雰囲気の良いレストラン。コスパ最高のホテルです。

A bit worn down. No restuarants or shopping near by. Had to go about 1 km to find other possibilities for eating. It is an all inclusive hotel, meaning it is quite expensive to live there if you have only bought the room.

Nice staff, nice location, disappointing on detail

Nice hotel with great location on the beach....initially I would have given a 4/5. Now I downgraded to 3/5. Internet seems to cut out constantly at check-out time (I saw this happen every one of the five days I was there...curious that internet fails everyday at the same time!) so impossible to order an uber and you end up taking their taxis which are double the price!!! Also, no fans in rooms so you are stuck with loud A/C all night. Finally, for some reason, two days into my stay somebody called from reception demanding that I pay my extras bill (room was already paied through expedia) in advance because they needed cash...i did not comply and it stopped there but it was extremely rude.

Отдыхали с 06 по 24марта.По цене которую заплатили, отель не выдерживает никакой критики. Питание однообразное, выбор минимален. Все официанты очень ленивые, если им ничего не даешь. Услуга Wi-Fi это издевательство-5минут работает-10минут не работает и только на рессепшен.В море никто не купается - большое течение и волны. В номере огромные тараканы, которых иногда травят. Были в отелях многих странах мира, но этот отель оказался на несколько порядков ниже.
