Rooms were outdated, and the washrooms had poor ventilation with a foul drain smell. Despite booking three Coastal View Rooms together one book TDforExpedia booking, we were given two rooms on one floor and a third on another. Third room was on first floor which had a minimal coastal view. The hotel said the bookings came through separately and couldn’t place us together, which was disappointing on a family trip. The rooms were in an older section of the hotel (on the very far end), and the pool on our side was closed and unmaintained. Overall, the property fell well below five-star expectations.

There was lots of insects on the bed in the morning at 6.30
The shower was completely cold…..no one told us to switch on light for heater!
I was checking out at 9.00am
My payment was taken just before I came down for check out ……without my consent.
Refuse to refund.Only did not charge for dinner about £6.00!

Excellent value - lively hotel with three good, clean pools. Staff were impeccable as was service. Lovely bar (and bar staff) which served very good cocktails, even better with a BOGO offer! Nice location with easy access to beach and beach restaurants, though the food at the hotel was also good.

We booked the most expensive lounge room and the hotel staff and the housekeeping staff were lovely and hence the stars are for them.

The food was well below average, we paid extra for breakfast for 6 days and only managed to eat there 2 days because it was so bad and we ordered room service a bunch of times and each time the food was very mediocre.

Main thing to be aware of is that they do not allow Ubers near the hotel in the street and they want you to use their taxi service instead which is four times the price of the Uber. One day we decided to book an Uber (as it was 300 rs compared to 2500rs the hotel was asking for) after being ripped off a few times but we were told that we would have to go to the main road so we started walking to the main road which is about a kilometre away and came across a tuk-tuk so decided to get that to the main road mainly for a little tuk-tuk experience and suddenly realised there was a guy who'd followed us all the way from the hotel to make sure that we weren't getting in the taxi on that street and ended up having a big arguement with the tuktuk guy telling him to not take us. That was very creepy and weird and frankly a horrible thing for a hotel to do to this customers and guests.

Location is really great. We had friends trip. It was more relaxing as there’s nothing much around to do. We had family suite, which was great. Breakfast was Ok. Could have added more variety. But otherwise resort is great, huge property, right on the beach.Rooms were very clean, had all needed aminities. All the restaurants on the property had delicious food. We loved our stay.

This a very old property and badly needs a facelift. Everything looks old and dated. The amenities are just basis. They don’t even offer a hand towel in the toilets and the iron board which came after calling housekeeping was rusty and very old. This is 3 Star property, definitely not a 5 Star.

Title: Fantastic Stay with Beautiful Sea Views and Great Service

I recently stayed at Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel and had a wonderful experience overall. The food was absolutely fantastic, offering a great variety of delicious options every day.

The room was very comfortable and came with an incredible sea view that added a relaxing ambiance to our stay. The hotel itself is very well-maintained, with clean and spacious rooms that cater to comfort and relaxation.

The staff at the hotel were exceptional—polite, friendly, and always willing to help with any questions or needs.

Special thanks to the lady manager who stepped in to resolve an issue with my booking.
Although I booked through Expedia, wasn’t informed hotel that the booking didn’t account for my child, and the hotel initially requested an additional fee.

Fortunately, the manager handled it professionally and efficiently, allowing us to enjoy our stay without further issues.

One word of caution: be careful when booking through Expedia. I tried to contact them about the discrepancy, but received no response. Based on my experience, it might be better to book directly with the hotel to avoid any confusion.

Overall, Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel exceeded our expectations, and I would gladly stay here again. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful beachside retreat with excellent service, food, and views!

The hotel is very outdated & needs a refurb, the fixtures in the bathrooms & also in the communal areas look rather old. the property & amenities including coffee shop, bars, pools etc look tired, dull & boring. This should be rated as a three rather than five star. There was a party on the communal area which was very loud, which is not what I signed up for when I booked a weekend away. The food was average.

Do not stay here. Do not book ocean view.

Booked an OCEAN VIEW room and what we got was a PARTIAL SEA VIEW from outside on the balcony. The room itself is nothing better than a normal hotel room you find inside the city, had a weird smell and was dingy and dark. Our AC was not working and the service was extremely slow.

Breakfast buffet was below average.
Literally checkout early as we didn’t want to be there anymore. Please don’t visit this space and especially do not book an ocean view.

Not worth the price in covid times

The property itself is beautiful and it's an easy walk to the main beaches. Breakfast staff in particular were friendly and helpful. Since it's covid, there are quite a few restrictions such as two of the pools being closed and a rather annoying check-in procedure. Overall the hotel is fine, but 8000+/night is just too much money for what you get.

There is much that I like about this hotel. A nice sized swimming pool and good ayervedic spa. Downsides include the poor beach front; the noise from the various parties/conferences held at the hotel and unfortunate smells coming from the toilets. They could improve things.

Very nice location with great landscape. Our second floor room was facing Arabian Sea. Enjoyed the sound of waves and the foam sitting in the front balcony of our room. Liked the services of Travel desk.

It is not at all worth for money.
Very old rooms with poor door handles and low cleanliness.
Charging like super 5 star
Food is very ugly. Not of any quality.
More than that, my son in law told me that UDS, very careful about food poisoning.
It was true and my grand children of 1.5 years old caught vomiting and desentry. Then my elder daughter, then my son then my daughter in law.
My son was a vegetarian. He also been affected.
Luckly myself and my wife escaped

An Overpriced Hotel

I would rate it as not as per expectations for a four star property. While I booked an Ocean View Room the room initially allotted to me had a partial view of ocean and for that too one had to go out to the balcony. The room had afoul smell and I requested for a change which was promptly attended too but the room given had only little view of the ocean from the balcony. The next day, however, I was allotted an Ocean View room after a request again.
The restaurant was very crowded and the quality was food was also just Ok. The staff, however, were courteous and helpful.

I really love Kovalam and when I think Kovalam I think Uday Samudra. I love the facilities esp the pool on my doorstep, the ayurveda, dentist and spa. The breakfasts are hearty and the staff go out of their way to make one feel at home. The beach and sound of the crashing waves make one feel close to nature as well as the golden drops of sunset. Will always go back.

This hotel's value prop seems to be that \"we are here as the last resort after all the decent hotels have filled up, and due to that, we will squeeze the last drop of your wallet out of you, but care two hoots about quality\"

The only good thing about this place was, it was a hop, skip and jump away from the beach. That is the only thing good about it. the location.

The rooms: They are terrible. We booked 2 rooms, top end rates. The room had a small living room (decent), and the main bedroom adjacent to it ( double), and an Attached loo/bath. While the rooms are old, has a bit of a dinghy smell, the worst was the bathroom. Old fittings, leaky taps, and the worst was the pot. (Commode). i've checked this in both rooms. You need to flush at least 2 full flushes (thats at least 30 litres of water down the drain, literally) to return the pot to a usable condition. I felt it was very unhygienic.

Food: The buffet is average - lunch. The in-room dining order was excellent (dinner). There was no breakfast included in our top end rate( which is why i said they squeeze every drop of your wallet - no value for money whatsoever).

Staff: Cannot complain.They are trying to do their best, but the infrastructure is just not updated. Peak season, the flaws show up like an open festering wound.
We stayed only for one night, and glad the nightmare was over quickly.
This place seriously needs a modern makeover, need to stop fleecing tourists with average infrastructure befitting a 2star!

We visited Kerala in Feb 2018 and stayed in this hotel. I wonder how this hotel can be rated a 5 star. We had horrendous experience: 1. Check-in Experience was awful, had to wait hours. 2. The rooms to be extremely dirty and unhygienic; they didn't change the room despite multiple requests. 3. The room and bathroom stunk like a sewer the whole time. When complained the hotel staff said that ‘they have closed the door to the sewer’. Unfortunately, we had no choice at the time because we couldn’t find any other nice hotel in the area, all were sold out and had to spend time in this dumpster. 4. Bedsheets and pillow cases smelled like it was never changed since the previous guest left. 5. We asked the front desk after checking to change the room. We were assured that he will change it and move our luggage into the new room. However, when we got back at night it was not changed. Finally, after multiple requests, they gave us a different room the early next morning because we could not sleep in the nasty smell. They gave us a smaller room with two beds with the assurance they will give us a better room soon, which they didn't even after asking them multiple times. Then we gave up on them because we couldn’t afford to waste more time. Our whole experience was ruined. 6. Dining Experience: staff was very rude, and the service was poor. 7. Check out Experience: not great, they didn’t care how the guests felt during the stay. I give 0/negative star and won't recommend this hotel.

We would like to acknowledge the courteousness of Srabani and Vidya in the dining facility area and Syad in the room service department. They made our stay enjoyable. We stayed for a night for our anniversary. The staff was very polite and helping especially Miss Ancy at the reception. She made us feel at home. Main highlight of the resort was the greenery and how well they have maintained it. Lots of flowering plants, lots of place to walk. They have maintained the place in such a way that it doesn't look artificial. View from the ocean view room was just spectacular! The rooms were comfortable with good bathroom. No tubs in ocean view rooms. They have 3 well maintained pools, a steam and sauna, massage parlor, gym, 24 hour coffee shop. The walk on the beach was beautiful and relaxing. Breakfast buffet was awesome with South Indian, North Indian and western cuisines. Dinner buffet was not up to the mark. Ala carte lunch was good. Overall we had a great time, very relaxing and detached from our busy routine. We will definitely recommend to anyone who ask us.

No direct access to beach but good hotel to stay

I was in a visit for Business and Pleasure near the beach during the peak tourist season. Unfortunately, the beach is not there due to the big see wall. So, location is not ideal and need to travel by car to reach to the beach where I can relax.
The food in the cafeteria was very local Indian food, which was spicier for me. The service was good. The lobby and the area where the kids can play was good as it was inside the hotel itself. There was not much shops nearby, so I have to travel 1 miles to buy things.
Overall a different experience and of course I love this Green city.

This is not a 5 star hotel by a long way not sure how this has got this rating but it is definitely false advertising and overpriced the rooms are falling apart and outdated by the looks of things no maintance has been done for a long time.

The beach is a 10min walk past heaps of rubbish dumped along the route disappointing.

Simply do not go here

This hotel is dirty, unhygienic, noisy and ridiculously over priced. The staff are poorly trained and if you book to stay do not pay upfront because you will be seriously disappointed and wont get a refund or easily find an alternative in the local area. Any food you buy there risks an upset stomach and the prices are over 3 times what you pay at the far superior local restaurants. We left as soon as we could and found far better accommodation in Trivandrum nearby. They claim to be either 5 star or 4 star depending onwhich site you book through, in reality it is a poor 2 star
Kerala generally is a pretty grim place and shows much of the worst of India, so expect to be ripped off at every turn so be wary. We felt sorry for the people who had booked into this place for a special occasion or as a once in a lifetime no expense spared anniversary, we were lucky as we had stayed in Rajastan at a superb and reasonably priced hotel so we know India can do it right. But beware in Agra and Delhi as they can be equally bad and difficult to change if you have payed upfront. Most hotels seem to lie about their ratings and will all attempt to rip off foreign tourists.

Nice clean hotel - 3 pools - very friendly staff, would try and do anything for you but it took a while and often would forget things. Limited alcoholic drinks but enough for us. Beach not great but nicer beach within walking distance. Good choice of food. Buffet dinner was 1000 RS but al a carte was only 350 Rs to 650 Rs. Lovely seafood cooked fresh in front of you. Definitely cater more for the Indian palate but continental snacks available (pizza, pasta, burgers etc.) My fussy vegetarian daughter always found something she liked. Overall pleased with our stay.

We booked and paid for a premium room but on arrival shown to a very inferior room. After a trip to reception the next morning, I chose a room more suitable. Breakfast was a bit chaotic, you often had to wait for a table to come available or be cleared and the pool by our room did not have enough beds and the pool men seemed to allocate beds and towels by whom tipped them. Not impressed and would not stay there again. Overall staff nice, but overworked and therefore the service suffered. Love India, love Kerala and love the Taj hotel, but not so taken with UDS. However the dentistry at Crowning Glory was marvellous and would recommend 100%.

Nice hotel near beach

Good location, not very nice beach and scruffy. Hotel fine, sea view just ! on ground floor near beach. Only on bed and breakfast, breakfast choice good but staff in total chaos, didn't eat in restaurants at other times. Bar near beach makes nice cocktails eventually but continually run out of ice.

As a frequent visitor to India, much of what I say is as expected, would I stay again probably. I think the main problem is the all too many corporates functions, weddings etc which is evident in service standards on those days.

Quiet location with many fine little restaurants close by and a couple of upmarket ones.

Lovely hotel and great staff

Everything about the Uday Samudra was fantastic. The staff were so friendly, helpful, and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. There are 3 lovely pools, a choice of eating places within the hotel grounds? The food is excellent and the service also. I would recommend the Hotel to any of my friends. The downside is the surrounding area as there were very few shops there was no beach to enjoy, possibly due to high tides and the monsoon weather.
