Had a wonderful 1 night stay in gokulam grand in kovalam. Staff were very kind and welcoming. Service was fantastic. Our room was very clean and well maintained.

My only criticism is that the activity room could be maintained better. Only the table tennis, foosball and pool table were somewhat usable. The tv didn't work, no proper board games and AC didnt work either.

Good hotel near Lighthouse beach.

Our room at the Turtle was spacious, good and clean with a huge terrace with sea views. The pool area could have been cleaner and there was a shortage of sun beds and brollies. It was very easy to get to the beach by either hotel car or a tuk tuk was only INR 100. We spent most of our time on Lighthouse beach as at the left end, looking out to sea, there was an amazing snorkelling spot. Brilliant.

We stayed for couple of days. There was a construction going on at the hotel, and they continued it past 11 pm. This was even after multiple guests made several requests and complaints. One of our neighboring guests, a senior folks were really uncomfortable with the noise, but rather than being understanding and halting the work, the staff manager was laughing. We were really surprised with the attitude. For a hotel, one would think that the guest’s comfort is of utmost importance. This place definitely belies that understanding. Food is strictly average. It was such a disappointment. We will never stay again.

Wonderful stay

A very warm welcome received from exceptionally friendly staff.
Service was impeccable at all times.
My daughter unfortunately broke a glass during our stay and within a couple of minutes of notifying reception, two members of staff came up to the room and cleared everything up for us.
All of the food we ate was promptly brought out and tasted delicious.
On our last evening, we had to hang around in reception until 1am in the morning waiting for our flight and George, the very kind man on reception came to ask us if we needed blankets so that we could have a sleep.
All in all a very pleasant stay.

Neat Little Resort right on Kovalam Beach

I was travelling with my elderly parents & wanted to make sure that the resort we stayed in was relaxing, clean & spacious. Turtle on the Beach was an amazing resort..The staff was excellent, the room was huge & clean & the food was delicious. We had dinner & breakfast at their restaurant, overlooking the pool. Their location was excellent..next to Kovalam beach. In short, we really enjoyed our stay greatly! Would highly recommend it.

annexe has issues

I had booked an annexe room for one night . The problem is that the annexe is not easily accessible from the main hotel lobby and on top of that there is either a slope to navigate or 30-40 steps to climb . As the restaurant , main pool and other outlets are in main hotel , it can be very challenging for senior citizens .Further the room had 5 steps to go to the bathroom , dresser and safe , which again is a pain . my reco is to stay in main hotel and take the annexe only at a steep discount . Staff is friendly and service is good . The hotel does not have direct access to the beach but it is easily walkable . Good views of the sea and u can hear the waves breaking . Food is average

The room looks NOTHING like the pictures. The pictures are very modern, the rooms are not modern at all. Room is pretty clean but common area is not. After checking out on Sunday, we wanted to use the pool for the day and the showers after. The pool showers and washroom were completely disgusting and not clean.

We paid for a “signature suite”, but what we got was NOTHING that looked like the photos. The furniture was broken, the carpet was old and dirty (when the photos show a wooden floor). The manager was very nice and gracious, but what do you do with nice?? I frankly feel that i was cheated and expect a full refund. They need to lower their prices, or upgrade their property.... but in the VERY LEAST STOP SHOWING PHOTOS THAT ARE NOT TRUE TO EXPERIENCE.

After repeated attempts on the first day, till 11 PM, the maintenance staff was unable to fix the room A/C. On second day, I was told that there is no individual climate control for each room and the temperature can only be set on the the central A/C unit which was too warm for me. The floor, closets and curtains were covered in lint. The phone in the room had static noise on day one and the mic stopped working on day 2.

This resort is listed as 5 star on Orbitz which was the primary reason I booked it. I disagree with this rating and would not give this resort more than 3.5 stars. I expect a 5 star resort to have individual climate control for each room and rooms to be clean.

On the positive side, this resort has a nice view of the ocean, pleasant and helpful staff and good food.

Please update the rating of this resort so that the future travelers get a better idea on what to expect.

It is close to the beach, but the view from the rooms is not as expected. Guests can see the Indian Ocean from the Ocean View room, but there is construction, trees and other properties between this room and the Ocean. Do not pay extra to book an ocean view room. The hotel is also not well lit, the alleys and corridors are dark and unclean.

The prices are also not worth the cost, the hotel is not maintained well. The bathtub was old and cracking, and some construction was going on near the balcony so it was very noisy and dusty.

We arrived as a party of two adults and three children. Upon arrive we had been allocated one rather small room which was not adequate.
Following some conversations with the management team we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a suite which was much more suited to our needs, We had a wonderful view of the sunset and overall the hotel delivered a great experience.
I think the hotel needs to be upgraded in some aspects, one of the children cut a toe on the dated wooden decking around the small pool which was not maintained very well

The hotel looks better in pictures! We got a suite for a good rate, so that was nice and indeed the suite was spacious. However, the balcony was dangerous for our toddler with an open space which didn't serve any reasonable purpose. The food was way over priced and not even great. There is hardly any \"property\" to the hotel - by that I mean, there is very little beyond the rooms and pool so not much to do as one would expect in a beach resort. There isn't any private access to the beach and the help from the hotel towards the public access is drop only! Cutting corners towards cost was very evident in several things - which is fine if one sees the hotel from a 3 star lens. There was inadequate hot water for the tub and the shower, the restaurant forgot cutlery twice during our in-room dining order, the breakfast was disappointing all days and the soups were served lukewarm. The Spa was good so that was nice and so was the pool - we seemed to have stayed during a non-peak time so likely helped us get more from our vacation.

Hotel with great staff

This hotel has great staff, very helpful and friendly. The front desk staff went out of their way to help us. The wait staff at the restaurant were always ready to serve and pleasant. The room was well maintained and the breakfast buffet was quite good. The beach view was gorgeous although the beach was not easy to get to. They have a free shuttle to the beach but the guests have to hire a auto-rickshaw to get back (fairly cheap). The internet service was horrendous and this needs to be rectified for a resort with fairly high room rates.

Very nice hotel 10 minutes from beach

Photos do not do this hotel justice. On arrival we were immediately impressed with the overall appearance and cleanliness. Its a large hotel but spread over an extensive area but built on the side of steep hill. Hence stairs everywhere so not ideal if you have mobility problems. We had booked a suite and were given a very nice apartment with a large bedroom, a very large bathroom with double bath and a separate shower, toilet and twin sinks. The living room was equally spacious and a large outside balcony looking over the gardens and down to the sea. We enjoyed a nice buffet lunch on arrival and the buffer breakfast would suite any taste. There is a nice outside pool next to the restaurant, a table tennis table, pool table and gym (which we did not use). There is also a second smaller pool. The hotel is situated at the top of a hill above Kovalam beach with two steep access roads to the left and right of the hotel lined by the usual gift shops. Its about 10 minutes walk to the beach and then you can walk along the paved beach front to lighthouse beach and beyond. The sea was pretty rough with some surfers enjoying the waves. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants along the beach front. Very close to the hotel there are two rough looking restaurants but in fact they served nice food but mainly used by locals. The hotel sells no alcohol but it is easy to get beer and wine on the beach front. Security seems excellent.

The room was clean and nice, if a bit dated and gloomy. Great shower and a big balcony overlooking the sea. Thr breakfast buffet is also pretty good with a range of European and South Indian options. The hotel itself has some drawbacks though. The wi-fi was very slow and had a buggy sign-in procedure, wherever in the hotel I tried it. I don't think this is acceptable in this day and age! The hotel's supposed second restaurant, Rumours, appears to be defunct and wasn't serving anything. Service at the main restaurant is haphazard despite the large number of staff. The restaurant, airport transfer and room service all seem very overpriced compared to other local options. The layout of the hotel is strange - the restaurant and swimming pool are cramped together, while a lot of other outside space around the place seems to go unused.

The hotel has nice facilities and is well situated. The restaurant is great and has a very extensive but not expensive menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our complimentary chef demonstration experience and can't wait to get home and cook Butter Chicken.
What sets this hotel apart is it's staff. So friendly and always thinking of guest comfort.

Very nice boutique hotel looking over Eve beach

Very nice boutique hotel overlooking Eve beach. Excellent views from 5th floor. We understand that the local management of the hotel hass recently changed - and it shows. The reception staff were excellent - very helpful and friendly. However, the restaurant and housekeeping staff appeared to lack leadership. Various items of maintenance were going on during our stay but it all seemed rather haphazard.

We stayed here one year ago and the difference this time was definitely noticeable. If good management is not put in place soon the hotel's reputation will being to suffer.

This hotel has been open around 8 years now which means the rooms are about ready for refurbishment. The restaurant here is excellent with a wide range of dishes available from the menu.

Arriving here was very pleasant- the staff were friendly and helpful, the view is beautiful. Were it not for a serious episode with dust mites in my room, it would have been a very satisfactory stay, but the second night I literally had to sleep on the floor on towels because the bed was infested w mites and they were crawling all over me, making me leave that hotel since the staff found no solution and management would not reverse the charge for that night. On top of it all I brought mites home in my bag - a very unfortunate experience.

Turtle is not on the beach. It is a 5 min walk. The staff is friendy, the food is excellent. They claim to have a meditteranean restuarant that doesnt have falafel. Their WiFi is terrible (0.2Mb/sec). The toilet flush is weak and they do not provide hair conditioner. Massage was excellent, but they dont have services like hair removal they advertise.
The rooms are large and beautiful. My experience was mixed Lots of litter on Kovalam beach. Would not visit again.

fabulous hotel in an excellent location

i stayed in the hotel, turtle on the beach, recently with my friend for 4 days. i must say it was a pleasant and a long lasting experience. to start with, an excellent location, quite near to the hawa beach, had fabulous views of the arabian sea. wonderful breakfast, well maintained pool, very courteous staff, well maintained rooms. reasonably priced. the only things i was worried about were the under-equipped gym and the absence of a bar. however, they were small issues. my overall experience was awesome and i would certainly recommend this hotel to any of my friends visiting kovalam. i thank the management for making our stay very comfortable.

Interior is not as per 4 or 5 star hotel rather pretty ordinary and disappointing. This hotel is no where close to a 4 or 5 star hotel. Also I feel that the hotel staff should trust the customer while check out specially we the customer is declaring minibar consumption proactively. I have seen in any standard hotel that they trust the customers declaration and here I was made to wait to cross check my declaration. And I felt bad about that.

Great value for money with good service

We stayed for 3 nights. Overall it was a good experience. The staff were responsive and courteous. The hotel is also quite close from Hawa beach(about 10 min walk). We had a great view of Hawa beach from our Arabian sea facing room. The hotel has only one multi cuisine restaurant which offers good Kerala style food. However the variety for local cuisine is quite limited. It is recommended to go to Lighthouse beach which has an array of good restaurants like Malabar cafe instead. Another issue we faced was the lack of a crib for our 11 month year old daughter. They only had a little cradle which was not stable enough. The other slight disappointment was the condition of the hotel lobby entrance which was quite untidy with footprints. Leaving these minor issues aside, \"Turtle on the beach\" provides great value for money and decent comfort and good service.

There was no direct access to the beach as it was stated. you have to walk for 10 mins in a broken down road to reach the beach. the staff were not helpful. we asked for a hotel car twice and instead they just stopped a taxi from the road who didn't know the location of the addresses we gave them. we payed for the taxi to return us back to the hotel. there was no internet connection in the room. even though it was stated that u have internet included. you actually have to pay for the internet to be able to log in. terrible place

Comfortable hotel at Kovalam beach.

Turtle is a comfortable hotel at Kovalam beach.
We stayed at turtle ,3 nights.
and it is a mixed experience .
We requested 3 weeks earlier ,need king bed and sea view room and requested for early check in but space is not available.
They allotted 1st floor and view from balcony is spectacular.

Disappointing note is , they couldn't given king bed ,requested many times but no use.
bathroom/wash room is small.
swimming pool is in-front of restaurant So,its not convenient for all.

and no buffet for lunch and dinner. simply saying no pax. (* they not allotted king bed room because hotel is packed)

it is a comfortable hotel for all. especially children.

GOOD, COMFORT AND NICE FOOD ,HOSPITALITY GIVEN BY THE STAFF IS APPRECIABLE.
BUT WE WEREN'T ABLE TO ENJOY THE BEACH.

It was an excellent experience at turtle on the beach. Only drawback here is that the hotel is not right on the beach, but 200 meters away. But rest everything like courteous service, pool quality, room view, complimentary breakfast and restaurant service are top notch! Loved it

Our stay at Turtle on Beach

We had a great time at Turtle on the Beach hotel. It is located closed to beach but NOT ON THE BEACH. it is situated on a cliff and has wonderful view of the beach. Hotel staff was polite and nice.Food in the restaurant was good. Overall had a great experience. It is a resort where people come for fun and pleasure not for business, so it is important that they provide Internet service
Complementary. But there was charge and it was irregular and needed unnecessary login.
Hotel management should make a note of it. Thanks

Wonderful hotel

Following a warm welcome, our room was well appointed and spotlessly clean.
The hotel facilities were excellent, pool was lovely and clean, good supply of towels.
Food cannot be praised more highly, huge choice at breakfast and dinner. We enjoyed the buffet every evening and made us try new foods we might not have ordered from a menu.
Service was always professional, friendly and accommodating. The staff could not do enough for me when I injured my foot during the stay.
We really could not fault this hotel and would return in a heartbeat.

We spent 2 nights in the hotel last week.Right from the check in where we were warmly received by
the staff with beautiful shell chains to our smooth check out it was a wonderful experience.
The room, Arabian sea view room, was spacious enough for 3 adults.It was well done up in a simple and elegant manner.The bathroom too was very clean with a bathtub from where the view was super!! The piece de resistance is the huge balcony from where the view of the sea is awesome and one can hear the waves lashing onto the beach!
The pool,spa and gym facilities are good.Food served in the restaurant was of a good quality and had varied choices from local Kerala to other Indian,Chinese and Continenta cuisine.The buffet breakfast was fantastic with lots of options.
All the main beaches are very near the hotel.

A good boutique hotel with great views of the sea

I stayed in this hotel for 3 days and was completely happy with the hotel services. The seaview rooms are big and spacious. It comes with a huge balcony that overlooks the sea. It is just perfect for evening sit outs and having fun time with family and friends. The bathroom also is spacious and comes with a nice fittings, and bathtub that you can soak into.
The service of the hotel is prompt and good. However, they don't really interact with guests so formal behavior in general.
The breakfast buffet is decent but mostly south indian food and not much variety in non veg items.
The pool is small but well maintained.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel who wants a comfortable stay in a leisurely manner. But they don't have a 5 star service that the hotel claims of.

Turtle on the beach

We had three days at Turtle on the Beach at the start of our Keralan holiday. Without a doubt the greatest highlight was the superb buffet spread at both breakfast and dinner. It allowed us to try some wonderful new dishes, and gave our children enough variety that they could try the local food but also have more simple fair too. The staff were very gracious, helpful and made us very welcome. The pool was a bit small but very popular with our children. The spa massage was excellent.
The limitations for us would be the location (a steep walk down to the public beach, although the hotel provides a shuttle service) and rather limited grounds unless you stay by the pool.

Amazing Staff!!!!

I stayed at this hotel with my family and in-laws for three nights last month. It was one of my best stays and the service provided by teh staff was unparallal. Rooms were great, beach was on close walking distance and staff was amazing. Worth mentioning that hotel manager \"Rilzu\" was very nice, accomdating and kind to my family. I would absolutley recommend this hotel and surely go back to stay when I revisit Kerela. Just to provide a refernce, I am a consultant and travel globally, mostly staying at five-star hotels and expect high standards, though not being a global chain, this stay was fantastic.

Nice hotel close to the beach

I spent three nights in this hotel and it was very enjoyable. The bedroom was large and very comfortable had all that I needed. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The breakfast was a buffet and provided an excellent range of options. I had lunch in the hotel on one day and was disappointed to find that most of the food on the menu that day was European and I felt there were not enough Asian options.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
