We stopped by Deer Lodge code the years when visiting Lake Louise for our meals and weee impressed with the food quality and the rustic ambiance. Hence, we picked it as the hotel to stay for our 41st wedding anniversary celebration, the protest sent us emails suggesting us to try out the restaurants and meals as recent as a couple of days before our arrival and we planned to do just that. You could imagine the disappointment we had when we checked in that the Restaurants were all closed. Why would they not provided forewarning when we booked and why they kept sending email to promote their restaurants for our stay?

Can’t beat the location for proximity to Lake Louise without the prices of the Fairmont. Property does have a games/music room and the late night drumming made it hard to sleep at 11pm. Food was ok.

It was at a convenient location. Very basic hotel to just sleep. They did not have any dining services on site even though I received messages from them stating that the dining devices on site would be available. Walls are thin and you can hear everything in the hallways and neighboring rooms.

The unit is old and not suitable for people with mobility issues. There are many steps up and down throughout. There are no elevators,the halls are narrow and the parking lot is uneven and unpaved. Despite asking for handicapped space we were given a room on the second floor far from the entrance. The property also advertises being on Lake Louise and it is not.

It was good but downfall was when checking out, the front desk argued that the stay had not been paid even though it was prepaid.
As much as we provide evidence that it had been paid from hotel app, little assistance given to resolve this. We had to provide him with hotel.com number to call to eventually prove that all had been settled.
I understand if he is in training but would be much appreciated if he could show some initiatives/ interest to resolve rather than insisting ONLY that we need to make pymt.

Great Hotel near Lake Louise

The location is great! We are just walk away from Lake Louise. This is one thing that is very nice booking on nearby hotel so you can go to the lake when the crowd is not yet there. The hotel is rustic and clean. The breakfast is okay, it is the same everyday.

Lovely comfortable stay in a heritage room

We had a wonderful stay in a heritage room, which had everything we wanted with a lovely balcony and view. Bed was so wide and comfy, the shower was great and it was perfectly clean with toiletries refreshed everyday.

Location is excellent with plenty of free parking, a short stroll to lake Louise where you can also get the Parks Canada bus to Moraine (you need to show hotel confirmation at the hut).

Breakfast was nice however the staff were slow replacing items especially coffee when it run out and you had to wait a while for them to bring new ones out.

Cons:
The only thing missing from our room was a fridge but we kept drinks out on the balcony.
Waited about an hour for cases to be taken to our room and we had to go down to reception twice to check their whereabouts! Take your own upstairs! Hot tub wasn't working but was informed in advance. The price was high but most the hotels in the area are expensive!

Great location for Lake Louise. Hotel is old and does show in places, but nowhere near as bad as trip advisor reviews. We had a heritage room, this was clean and warm with 2 large beds, coffee machine and powerful shower. Brilliant breakfast the best on our trip so far, however the breakfast room needs a clean, the dust on the balustrades was awful. Staff were very helpful. No lifts in the hotel, no TV or Aircon

It’s old but I sensed that the hotel tries to supplement it. Amenities were okay and clean but considering its price I’m not sure whether it’s enough. I don’t remember any particularly kind or hospitable staff. The place for breakfast was dirty with bread crumbles and the like. Menu was very limited and didn’t filled up fast enough. AND there was no tongs for bread and saucers for tongs and spoons at the buffet table (I absolutely hated using any utencils placed on some cloth or wood things). Lastly I booked for dinner at the restaurant but gave me an uncomfortable table even though the restaurant was mostly empty. I asked another table but still not a good seat.

We loved the breakfast each morning. The food was excellent. We found the lodge in need of a remodel. The stairs to your room were hard to manage. It was not a pleasant experience. This hotel is not for elderly people. It needs an elevator. The tubs and shower had no safety bar to hold on to when getting in and out. one day someone is going to fall with a lawsuit. It is close to Lake Louise, but not for us! Sorry was glad to check out.

Wow! Really loved this historic hotel! Stayed in a king suite in the tower and had stunning views of the glacier above Lake Louise from every window. The room was clean and cozy. Only negative regarding the room is that the bathroom sink had no counter space (a pedestal sink). Wish they had placed a small table next to the sink.
The breakfast buffet was delicious, but was understaffed and we had to wait awhile for refills when food ran out. Also, be sure to make dinner reservations for their restaurant well in advance or you’ll have to eat at the expensive Fairmont next door or drive into the village. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming and reasonably priced hotel. The beautiful lake is literally a 5 minute walk away. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Our room was downgraded due to renovations and we were not told until we arrived. We were compensated with two free dinners, which was fair, but we weren’t given advance notice in case we didn’t want the small bed that we were given, which was unpleasant. Also, The cold water top in the sink in our room did not work properly and the windows were in dire need of being cleaned. And the ice machine didn’t work.

The Lodge is just a nice 10 minute walk to see Lake Louise. We liked having the breakfast buffet included. Our queen bed tower room was roomy enough for us. We did not have good weather for our 2 nights. Would have enjoyed using the hot tub with a view.

Hotel is right by the Lake Louise parking lot and the start of many trailheads. Front desk was very helpful, and the quaint little hotel has a lot of character. After a long day of hike, the rooftop hot tub is a good place to be and relax your muscles. There is a restaurant on site and we had dinner there. While the service was a bit slow, the food was wonderful. The breakfast buffet was very very good.

Good food in Deer dining and very nice breakfast included.
We had the room with view to the glacier with king size bed, considered to be upgraded( yes, with keeping in some old stuff)
I like that fact that it’s NO TV in rooms.
But blankets and comforters are kind of heavy and moving inside of cover
Overall it’s nice experience and rooms are pretty good price if you book it way ahead of time

Location is everything! Minutes walk from Lake Louise makes this an awesome location. Especially considering it's next to impossible to park at Lake Louise unless you get there like super early (I saw it look full at 6am!).
Staff was super nice and accommodating. Room was very clean, which is really what matters the most. It was quaint and charming. Some complain it's small but you have to set expectations considering location and price. We could sit on the balcony and see the mountain view. My family loved our stay. Breakfast buffet was standard items but seem good quality. Thick bacon slices, actual individual fried eggs, etc. Most importantly breakfast was convenient.

Tip for those intending to visit Moraine Lake, absolutely book the Parks Canada ones in advance as soon as you get the room. They sell out fast and it's a sight you don't want to miss. Other private bus options exist but at significantly more so if you are last minute, that may be your only hope. Don't do the public bus Roam option, that absolutely requires you take the first 8x bus from Banff. While I read elsewhere they may let you on if you are staying at Deer Lodge, it's not guaranteed.

Bedrooms were less than basic, and really not clean. Daughter dropped something that rolled under the only cupboard in the room and I really wish I hadn’t looked for it under there. Dinner in the restaurant was good and bar staff lovely. We took a takeaway breakfast but all the fruit was either mouldy or squished so threw it away. Cannot believe they charge $19 for it. Beautiful building that deserves some TLC inside, shame really. I wouldn’t stay again.

We stayed at Deer Lodge previously so knew that it was dated in terms of rooms and facilities. But that is one of the aspects we liked is being a bit back in time. We stayed in the newly added heritage king rooms which were very comfortable. We ate in the dining room and the meals accommodated diverse eating needs including a three year old. We liked the hot tub too.

The room was so dirty there was hair on the floor and the room smelled like actual urine. we had to switch rooms and the second room was also extremely dirty. There were clipped toe nails in the bathroom, huge dust bunnies by the side of the bed. I literally took pictures it was THAT shockingly dirty. The cleaning crew who takes care of the queen tower rooms need to be replaced unfortunately. They definitely dont clean the floors.

After a long day of driving, we got the last two rooms available. The hotel is over 100 years old and has some “quirks” but this only adds to the charm. The only disadvantage is due to its age, there is no elevator but the clerk was quick to offer assistance with baggage to 3rd floor.
Would definitely stay again!

The location was fantastic and saved us huge amounts of time on shuttle busses. It was so nice to be able to walk to Lake Louise and the shuttle to Moraine Lake. The staff was also great. They do need to spend some money on upgrading the facilities, but they were very clean and adequate. The location and staff make Deer Lodge what it is.

Glad I paid a little more for a \"deluxe\" room. 5 minute walk from Lake Louise. Convenient but far enough away from the crowds. Lovely little deck with a view of the glacier and the sound of the river below drowned out most of the traffic noise. Glad I booked this place and didn't pay three times as much for the chateau right on the lake. The room was very comfortable, just the right size and quiet. The restaurant was reasonably price and fabulous food.

Our family loved staying here. We appreciated the history, the charm of the lodge, the ease of the bar and restaurant, the extra sitting rooms to play cards. The staff was so friendly. Beds were comfortable and appreciated the nice toiletries. Only thing that would have made our stay nicer was to have a fan, as the open windows made a lot of noise from the roof come into our tower room. Hot tub was nice as well. Of course loved how easy it was to walk to Lake Louise!

We had a great stay. It’s well worth it to stay for such quick access to lake Louise. There is no air conditioning but that wasn’t needed since we could open the window and get some fresh mountain air to cool the room. Great view from the hot tub.

Staff was very friendly and property was a 5 minute walk from the lake. Building is certainly aging, but well kept. No AC in the tower rooms...not a big deal while we were there with mild temps. Could be an issue in hotter months. Also, no elevator if traveling with heavy luggage. However, staff was very willing to assist with luggage to rooms.

The property has so much potential due to its location, but sadly lacks significant TLC!! (old, worn out, dirty furnishing, broken windows, dilapidated furniture, broken heating, constant toilet water running). We understand that a good portion of the hotel will be demolished as of April 2024, which to be honest is well well overdue.

Buffet breakfast was a disaster and a scrum to get something on the plate as nothing was ever refilled.

I would have no hesitation in NOT recommending this property!

it's a 5 minute walk to Lake Louise, we could walk there any time of the day and we went aound 8.30pm when all the cars & tour buses were gone. it's great to enjoy the serenity of the lake. The hotel was clean and quiet although there is no TV in the room but who cares, we are not there to watch TV and we didn't have time to watch either. The hotel has a rustic feel, the lady at the reception was friendly and helpful and there is lots of parking space. we will definitely go back to stay if we visit LL & LM again.

This is a mixed review… positives: great location, friendly staff, clean (mostly) —- negatives: lacks amenities you except for what you pay (or take for granted) - thermostat didn’t work so it was wicked hot in the room (we paid for a room with a balcony so kept the door open all night to compensate though the screen door was broken so thank God the bears didn’t climb to the second floor :), no TV in room, restaurant was good at lunch but dinner and breakfast was a mess (buffet cold as heck) and the steaks at dinner were way over cooked as was the breakfast meat and eggs. Overall o wouldn’t stay again and wouldn’t recommend if you have other options.
