Great location right in the heart of Venice, with most attractions within walking distance. It is a little far from the train and bus station, but you can take the water bus to a nearby stop and walk from there. Just allow extra time, as waiting for the boat can slow things down.
The hotel has a lot of charm, although it does feel a little old-fashioned. The wooden floors mean you can hear people walking around above you if you are not staying on the top floor. My room had a balcony with a lovely view, which was a nice bonus.
A few things to note: there was no kettle in the room due to fire safety reasons, and no coffee or complimentary water provided. There was also only soap and no shower gel, which may not suit everyone.
Breakfast was included and enough to fill you up before going out, but it was quite basic. Apart from boiled eggs, there was no other hot food.
Overall, I would still recommend staying here for the excellent location and character of the property.

We stayed at Hotel Scandinavia 10 years ago. It is even more charming today! They have also installed a lift which makes it a little easier for a couple that is 10 years older and still haven’t learned how to pack light for Italy. The service was top notch, location is perfect and the room very adequate. Hope we can stay here again some day.

I struggled to sleep in our room in this hotel - the shutters on the windows didn't fit quite the window shape, and there were no curtains to draw to block out the light, so I woke up at 5am each day with light shining directly on my face.
We could also hear a lot of noise from the corridor as people started to get up around 6.30/7am onwards.
However, all the staff were really friendly, the location was super central, and we loved the décor of the room and the wonderful shower too.

Lovely stay in Venice. Although advertised as WiFi available there wasn’t. Was given details to link to hotel next door but didn’t work. Room was top floor with small balcony looking over rooftops, it was lovely but a very hot radiator in bathroom which we couldn’t adjust made room very warm. Breakfast was continental butwas plentiful with good choices. Reception staff very helpful. Short walk to Rialto Bridge and St Marc’s.

The shower was broken and at a height for a child.

The caution tape and the steel bars at the foot of the stairs holding up the ceiling not give me a sense of safety, even with our understanding it was an old/historic location.

What a gem of a hotel in Venice! ..and most of it thanks to the staff working there. Everybody was just exceptionally polite, friendly and helpful in a lovely, genuine way. The room was clean and quiet, big enough with a large Italian style bathroom. The breakfast in the morning was perfect, enough options to rotate your breakfast style for a few mornings.. I loved the location on Santa Maria Formosa Square, an open space with a great bar just next to the hotel, still situated very central in the Venice map. All in all we had a great time at Hotel Scandinavia and we do recommend it to anyone coming to explore the city. 5 stars.

A good central location with a very outdated and not so clean room. Service was nice but I was disappointed and uncomfortable, especially given the price. The plaza is lovely and close to everything, this also means it's very crowded and touristic at times. A bit far from the vaporetto.

A perfect base for a few days in Venice. Our room was very comfortable and the reception staff were fantastic - we particularly appreciated their restaurant recommendations.

I would not stay here again. It was hot in the room even though we turned the air down. The shower was decent. The hotel required a $3.50 in euros per person per day as a city tax. They would not take credit card for this or american dollars. I had zero euros. I asked the desk clerk what I should do and he was zero help. He told me to go to the atm but I didn't not bring a debit card. I had cash and a credit card and told him that. He said he could not help me. So this hotel was going to hold me hostage for $7.00 euros. RIDICULOUS. I had to go in the dining room and ask if anyone there would be willing to exchange american dollars for euros. Luckily someone was able to help me.

I will stay here again in a heartbeat. Very nice hotel with wide variety of rooms to choose among. Beautiful interiors. Terrific location: about 5 minute walk to San Marco and easily accessible. Cafes, restaurants, grocery stores all nearby. Private water taxi drop off / pick up at Campo S. Maria Formosa, where hotel is located. I cannot say enough about the staff! Spectacular. They are welcoming and friendly beyond measure. In all my decades of travel, I have never encountered a staff this knowledgeable and willing to be of service. I look forward to returning!

Hotel is a bit tired -like all Venice hotels. Staff are super friendly, very clean room & bathroom. The third bed for our teenager was a fold away bed and wasn’t as comfortable as a normal bed. Breakfast is ok. I recommend this hotel for good value, great location.

Although this hotel is further from the main part of the town and further from the public water transportation, thus a longer walk with luggage (over two bridges), the hotel boarders a residential neighborhood with local restaurants and less hustle and bussed in the evening and morning hours. My husband and I stayed here for our quick trip to Venice. We had a hard time finding it at first from the Vaporetto but we managed after looking it up on our phones. Turn left and go up the stairs when you get off the vaporetto and follow the instructions on the website from there. It's in a small piazza with local vendors selling fruit and souvenirs. There are a few restaurants around with a cafe and gelato close by too. We encountered three different men at the front desk throughout our stay, each more accommodating, friendly and welcoming than the next. Our room was #25 on the top floor. There is an elevator that took us most of the way and then a set of stairs. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and the room had a TV with an English television station (CNN). Only downside is that we did not get WiFi in our room, maybe because the room was on the top floor or in a far corner but we were able to easily access it and it was quick on a sofa located at the landing. The breakfast offered was phenomenal with seating both inside and outside. They offered cereal, croissants, rolls, lunchmeat, cheese and yogurt with a self-operated coffee machine. We really liked the hotel and it was just a few minute off one of the main streets connecting the whole city. The man at the hotel offered a lot of advise on which gondolas to take, where to buy souvenirs and where the best views of the city are.

Try to avoid getting a room on the 4th floor, specially if you have heavy/large suitcases....... it is not served by a lift! You shall have to carry the suitcases up the staircase yourself (one flight of stairs of course......there is a lift upto 3rd floor).

The hotel itself was cute and authentic and what I hoped for, but the room itself was not . It was overall clean but small and quite old . I’m pretty sure the other rooms were nicer , but they didn’t show any pictures of the room we stayed in so I was a little misled. The location itself is fantastic, and breakfast good ! Would stay again but splurge for the upgraded room .

This is a cute little hotel next to an open and bright square in Venice. About a 1 mile walk from the train station.
The hotel is clean and nicely decorated, breakfast was amply stocked with a good variety.
The standard room however, was only average. It was rather small, like most things in Venice, at had the ambiance of your grandmother's attic! I think the more expensive rooms are probably much better.

Staff is friendly, close to major attractions, amenity is great. Since our room was on the top floor, the view from the balcony was great. However, the downside was noise from the outdoor air conditioner units of other rooms which have been placed in the same balcony. Also, we noticed ants and roaches in the room which might not be avoidable due to the nature of island town.

Very nice hotel. Centrally located, 7-min away from San Marco Square. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. We arrived in the morning from the cruise. The front desk staff let us store the luggages, gave us a map and circled all important sights. He even reminded us to use the hotel washroom before leaving. Funny it sounded, but it was very practical as it was always a challenge to find a washroom in Europe, especially a free one:) It was very attentive of him to do so, and also told us about the port service to move our luggages to the water taxi port to the airport as no car in Venice.
