Looking for an experience in France where you feel rich but on a budget? Look no further! Very impressed with the rooms, amenities and service! Would come again, just keeping in mind local restaurants speak very little French but the staff at the Chateau were very accommodating with a great breakfast.

We have stayed a few times before but this time found the service less satisfactory. Welcome at reception was polite but no warmth. We asked about the heating in our room which hadn’t come on. The receptionist said she would come back to us but we had no response. Eventually it came on automatically. Leaves a bad impression.

Nice chateau hotel, creaking boards and all. Very comfortable, nice room and bed, clean bathroom, however.... the service in the Robert 2 gastronomic restaurant was nothing short of awful, not due to the sole waitress who didn't stop for the 3 hours we were there, but the lack of staff and service. Food excellent when it arrived. We took the wine pairings, however with our finished entree plates in front of us for 45 minutes before a further 30 mins for the main course the wine pairing with the entree had long been consumed.
The room service was poor. We were left without a toilet roll for our last day (we stayed 3 nights), and the upturned wine glasses were not clean, smelled strongly of stale wine! On our arrival the check-in queue was long with long waits - lack of staff. The hotel is showing signs of decline. Hopefully they can turn it around.

An extraordinary,historic & lovely place

I love this place. It is not in any sense luxurious but it is extraordinary to be able to stay in a Mediaeval Chartreuse, where some of the most powerful men in France once lived life at a level that not many other people can have dreamed of. ( possibly the king!) Lots of people want to come here and it is a draw for weddings, Conferences etc. which needs to be factored in. But the staff were very charming and friendly and very human. It was a pleasure to spend time with a couple of them. We have visited three times and it is now very firmly on our map! It is a wonderful space.

This hotel has gone downhill over the last Two years. Service is not good, furniture has disappeared from the bar which was most unwelcoming and extremely difficult to get someone to serve. We will not be staying here again. Shame.

We had a lovely overnight stay here. The room was lovely, and the hotel itself, had so many lovely areas to sit if you wanted. We ate in one of the restaurants and the food and service was excellent. The breakfast was also lovely.
I would recommend visiting here.
We walked in the grounds- some of the gardens seemed a bit sad which was a shame since it’s a lovely setting and very close to the motorway for a stopover.

This monastery is a beautiful place and very convenient for people travelling to and from England via Le Shuttle.
It has a rather deserted be that we really like. A very old, very large house with empty wide corridors, with extraordinary walls, a beautiful garden with extraordinary walls that needs more attention but is nevertheless a lovely place to wander in. The food at one of the three Restaurants we ate in is very good. It must be difficult to get serving staff these days in such an out-of-the-way place and the young people were doing their best without much training.... Wolves it and have been twice now - it will be one of our \" go to\" post or pre-Tunnel stops. Lovely place! So glad we found it 🙂

Great location. Beautiful building. Very tired and in need of a huge injection of cash. Practically no staff. Very frosty “welcome’ from receptionist. No info offered on dinner reservations at the restaurant or breakfast times. Receptionist couldn’t be bothered to serve us a drink at the bar (no bar staff). Large minimally attended garden (great for the dog as nothing to ruin!). Room adequate, bathroom functional rather than stylish, air con didn’t work, of the 2 windows only one could be opened as the other had a missing handle (and it was boiling hot!). Charged double for the dog - 30€ as opposed to the advertised rate (on all platforms as well as at the entrance to the hotel) of 15€. Receptionist completely unhelpful. Wrote to manager - that was in June, still no reply. Could be a fantastic place but sadly a very poor experience. We would never go back.

We stayed here for one night as a treat for our last night after 4 weeks travelling around France. Ended up most expensive , disappointing and worst night sleep in number of years travelling . We were given top floor corner room which was sickeningly too hot compared to rest of hotel, although room was clearly set up with functionality for air cooling in the room and electronically connected we were told not available, staff appeared uninterested and we weee just told we couldn't swap rooms as hotel full and hotel didn't provide fans . It was so unbearably hot in there my husband had to drive out to buy a fan from a home depo near by for a further 42 euros. Worst again when we later in evening went down to reception and asked for jug of water and ice as so hot in room , although still clearly available on tables in restaurant next to reception where we had purchased a meal only hour earlier , the only option we were given was to buy a bottle of water for further 5 euros , told no ice or clean glasses as glasses in room, jugs were for restaurant . We had awful night sleep, left 3 hours earlier than needed as so unbearable . Even when we complained again in morning re having to pay for water when rooms so hot and reception knew we had purchase fan, they again were just uninterested . For a 4x hotel and 220 euro stay (plus fan and buying water ! ) Think guests should atleast be provided with a fan, as for no free water or ice unless sat in restaurant 10 feet away !

I have stayed at this property several times with very good experiences. This time, for whatever reason, the hotel was not up to standard. The staff were very helpful but no sign of management to resolve issues. The main bar was closed. The reception could get you a drink but there was no sparkling water, ice or lemon in the bar. There was no hot water the next morning. No apology offered.

What a haven of tranquility! we woke up to the sound of birdsong and a wonderful view of the old stables- could almost hear the clip clopping of the horses of long ago.

Nice but could easily be much better

Check in functional but not friendly. Room fine- clean and comfortable. Bathrooms again fine. Nice hotel and homely. It’s also generally quite so long as you avoid the ground floor rooms. Breakfast is functional. Our big gripe is always the bar. We and other guests have to hunt for the bar staff which isn’t good enough. Might as well make the bar a self service honesty bar.

Hotel relatively quiet. Ground floor room not great but quite clean. Booked dinner in the La Distillerie- very busy: food adequate but not great, service stretched and therefore took time to get served. Breakfast included- certainly wouldn’t pay extra as it was again uninspiring.

Arrived very late but a kind lady on reception welcomed us as if it were only 5pm and served us a nightcap in the bar just before it closed, which was just what the doctor ordered. The room was quiet, large and characterful - perfect for our dogs, of which the hotel was very accommodating. The chateau is a lovely property with nice gardens at the back. The breakfast was one of the best I can remember. Will recommend to others.

Magnificent property in extensive grounds. The bar was staffed infrequently and closed/lights were out early (c22:00).
Despite temperatures in the mid 20s there was no seating area outside to take a drink in the warm sunshine. It would seem the hotel has switched into autumn mode.

Excellent stay one hour from Eurotunnel

We wanted to find a new stopover hotel for Eurotunnel. It was a little bit far but otherwise we had a very nice stay. The hotel was very quiet. The decor is very traditional (flowery wallpaper matching flowery counterpane) so you need to like that, there is no modern crossover although the bathroom was excellent - great shower! Nice freebie touches too and a fully stocked mini-bar (rare these days). The antiques and paintings are beautiful and the restaurant (La Distillerie) was buzzy and had a magnificent log fire going on. Food was plentiful and tasty. The breakfast was also very good although rather expensive at €20pp and they would not allow me to have just a coffee and pastry for a lesser price. The park and gardens must be beautiful in the Spring - it would soften the rather austere appearance of the chateau.

This is an old, classic French chateau which really needs to be updated. Everything seemed to be worn and tired. Nowadays guests need electrical outlets to charge phones, etc. The staff was competent and efficient but could have been more welcoming and friendlier. With more care and attention, this could be a very nice place to stay.

Everything we wanted..

This was an overnight stay on our way home from Bruges through Eurotunnel.
The hotel is a lovely refurbished chateau and Domaine and the rooms very French and comfortable. The staff were wonderfully attentive and courteous.
The restaurant served great cuisine even though we only had a steak / frites and a duck burger. But cooked exactly to choice and far better than anything you can get in UK. The house beer was superb too.
On leaving the next morning we regretted not staying longer but the Béthune locality in winter is rather sadly lacking in appeal when compared to Bruges.
However as a sophisticated pre Calais stop - quite simply superb for the mature and discerning traveller. We'll be back.

Treasure of a hotel find!!

What a treasure of a find for my first trip to the area for a business meeting I was having 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Beautiful building and rooms that suited the character perfectly.

Lovely reception staff, polite, friendly and spoke English brilliantly. Restaurant was excellent and I had a superb nights sleep. I think that I've found the hotel I will be using on a regular basis when I am working in the area from now on.

The hotel property itself is stunning, a lovely old building with a real presence and character. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the room wasn’t great - thick white dust in the corners of the carpets, bathroom could have been cleaner too. Nowhere near bad enough to walk out but definitely needs some attention.

Conveniently close to the motorway but in a quiet situation the hotel was ideal for our overnight stay. Checking was simple and quick. Our family room spacious and clean. The decor was beautiful, as one would expect from such a grand building. We dined in the evening and found the menu reasonably priced and food excellent.
Breakfast, which started early was lovely with a wide variety of choices.
Highly recommended, we will come again!

This property and setting is absolutely gorgeous! The rooms are spectacular, they feel like a château room should feel. Tall ceilings, period wallpaper and furniture, very charming. We had cocktails in the garden the first day but, unfortunately, the garden was completely full of wedding guests the second day, which was disappointing as there were no other options to sit outside. The staff did a good job to try to make sure we felt served and cared for despite all of the wedding guests.

Great one night stopover before catching the ferry back to the U.K. Excellent meal in La Distellerie restaurant. Wine sensibly priced. Well presented and tasty food. Great service.
A coffee machine in the room would have been nice.
Beautiful grounds to stroll around. Wonderful kitchen gardens. It reminded us of, Le Manoir Aux Quatre Saisons’ gardens in Oxfordshire!

This was by far the best hotel we stayed in on our way through France, and we also stayed there on the way back to the UK. So near to Calais, so easy drive in the morning on way back to UK. Restaurant choice superb/rooms magnificent/dog friendly....just a lovely place to stay over.
