Strong smoke smell even the hotel is supposed to be smoke free.
I asked the front desk to do some treating, before I left for a lunch engagement, they didn’t when I came back at 3:30pm.
Safe didn’t work because there was no display for keying in code. Either out of battery or unplugged.

Hotel is infected by bed bugs. Sent photographic evidence but the hotel just ignore. Had to throw away my suitcase and many clothes to make sure I don’t bring any home!

No more this hotel for me

I stayed more than 30 different hotels since June 2023 in China for my biz trip, this particular hotel is the worst one. For instance, I asked for RMB changes to pay for my taxi to Pudong airport but a male staff at front desk waved me off without saying anything but I had to go to the Bar in the center of the hotel to do it.

Hotel room was clean and spacious and quiet. There was a small shopping mall about 3 min walk away. Buffet breakfast was very good. Service was excellent. I didn't follow this up, but I didn't see a room service menu in the room, not sure if it was left out or if there is no room service availability.

Recommended hotel in Shanghai Pudong district!

Great hotel, great service, amazing breakfast buffet, personable bar staff, accommodating front desk and concierge. Only thing I would recommend is to have the taxi service charge the room or comment in advance that taxi’s there only accept cash, Alipay or wechat pay. Thankfully they accepted US dollars.

Room simply stunk and was so humid, had to hang dry my clothes. Ended up moving rooms, but still the hotel is too old and not kept up well, and it clearly shows when checking into the room.

Overpriced for what it’s worth.

My default place to stay

Always like this hotel - not over the top place. Comfortable, clean, nice room size and in a good place - can walk to exhibition halls and only 30 mins from Bund and 40 mins from airports. Shopping and restaurants are 5 mins up the road too. I've stayed there something like 10 times now and will continue to - however have noticed the price is rising and while it is staying reasonable I will always go back.

Recently renovated rooms are really pleasant and stylish, comfortable environment for work and sleep. 24 hr gym has modern equipment and is well-equipped. Breakfast buffet was a slight letdown compared to other five star properties, with some stale breads and overcooked vegetables. Otherwise, a great choice for this area.

Simply as good as it gets with regard to a hotel stay. Everything worked as it was supposed to: pool (great), hot tub was actually hot, room cold, spa, sauna, etc., all as they should be; the breakfast was very good as well. It was the people, however, that made the stay; the people were there for us when we needed for everything - hotel related or not. Great place, great people.

Every time we need a hotel and there is a discount we always enjoy the Renaissance. Always clean with top notch service. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. Breakfast is great but not quite worth it if you have to pay extra. Get a rate with breakfast included. I only stay when there is a special at the hotel. If not, I stay elsewhere. but that's just to save money. We stayed here this time after getting off a flight and needed to take the train the next day. Stayed at Renaissance several times in Shanghai and each has been a great experience.

Good place for a business traveler

This is a great hotel. The service is polite and friendly towards business travelers. The people at the front desk are proficient in English which is great for a person like myself with limited Chinese language proficiency. The hotel is clean and the nice. I ordered room service and the food was great and delivered promptly. There are some decent restaurants within walking distance. Probably 10 minutes away.

Good hotel with friendly staff

Staff at hotel were friendly and accommodating giving us two rooms adjacent to each other - not all hotels can seem to manage this when I have asked in the past. Rooms were clean and had plenty of room - and beds comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of choice - only annoying thing was I had to complete room details and sign a piece of paper per person in the room ( three) every morning for breakfast especially when it was included in our booking so really a paper exercise. Didn't use pool but spa area itself was nice - my only complaint was the ladies steam room looked Uninviting and unclean - white pod like room with white plastic seats on both sides but on one side the chairs had brown stains, floor had plastic white tiles and room didn't smell fantastic - a nice calming fragrance would have helped.
Overall hotel was good. There were a few shops etc in the neighbourhood but easy by metro to access restaurants and shops near the Shanghai skyscrapers

I stayed at this hotel about 10 years ago. The hotel has not not lost any of its high quality over those years. The rooms and hallways are extremely quiet. The hotel staff is top notch. The rooms decor is up to date. The hotel staff are outstanding and cater to your every need.

Room was nice. Decent size. Bathroom was spacious and very clean. Overall property was good.
Staff needed to know basic words in English like spoon, water, tissue etc. For an international hotel chain you can atleast expect this from them.

Area around the hotel is very secluded during evening. Very quiet. I would prefer to stay on Bund side next time.
If you are in Shanghai for work in and around pudong area, this is a good decent option. For tourists I would not recommend this hotel.

Very very very nice... but a little boring.

I've stayed at this hotel off and on since the year it opened. It's actually better than when it was brand new.
Beds are great.
Room is comfortable.
Breakfast is good.
Gym is good.
Locker room and showers etc are very good.
Indoor swimming pool is 3-4 lanes wide, 18m long. 1.4-1.6m deep. OK for lap swimming. Not friendly for small children.
10-12 minute easy walk to line 9 metro. Taxis are easy.
Less than 10 minute walk to Thumb Plaza.
8-10 minutes by taxi to Kerry Plaza, trade expo or maglev.

Horrible service from front desk & Expedia!!

We traveled for business trip this time 3 pax and we booked the room with the remark 'extra bed required'.
But when we got to the reception we mentioned please remember we booked with Extra bed. The reception was like 'okay okay' but when we go into our room there was only 2 bed and definitely no space for extra bed so we wondered and waited for 1 hour and no extra bed came.
We went down again to the reception and asked for the extra bed but the reception ''BARELY'' speak proper English. And after she checked the booking the receptionist said ''There's no extra bed booked in your booking''. We told the receptionist that's not true as we remarked we needed extra bed! Later she said ''You have to call Expedia in your country because we don't have booking as you've mentioned'' And the front desk manager or whatever kept yelling at the receptionist in Chinese , we had no idea what she said.
We got really frustrated and literally asked ''we booked for 3 pax but there's 2 bed and you said we have to call Expedia in our country 7pm? Does that make any sense?'' the receptionist went silent and in the end we HAD TO pay for extra bed , but got upgraded room so we can get a space to put in extra bed!!

Next, they said they'll move the luggage for us all we had to do was go up n lock all of our baggages. We did and waited 30 minutes, NOBODY showed up to help us move the luggages!! So we just HAD TO move all the luggages ourself.

Overall, hotel is decent with enough staff who speaks English. Just one bad experience where I was hit with extra charge of RMB 1,100 that I didn't incur which they had no idea what it was. It just felt like they do that at random to catch people not paying attention!

Good Room but lack of service

I booked a room with internet wireless. It did not work. I am on business. It is crucial that I can use my laptop. This internet access was also included in my price of the room. Front desk manager was to go to my room and check. She never reported findings. I used my Blackberry.

Also, upon check in she spent 30 minutes getting me to spend more money on upgrading to Club Floor. They want you to spend more. I just wanted to sleep after 15 hour flight.
