I spent three nights at this hotel. I loved the location, which is close to metro line 2 that connects both Shanghai airports. No need to take cabs or else if you plan to stay here and you arrive from either airport. With less than 10 RMB you'll get close to the hotel and you'll only have to walk 10 mins. Breakfast was great, several restaurants at ~10 mins walk. Didn't use their wifi, as I had my AT&T Int'l plan which isn't blocked

The comfort of the bed was great although the room was not large. It is a nice quality, well appointed hotel. For English speakers, this hotel should work just fine. It is very close to a good shopping mall and a short walk to the Century Avenue metro station which will get you anywhere in Shanghai

The first great advantage to this hotel is that its a non smoking hotel, great plus in china!. Convinient location, 2 min away from Metro line 2 and only 3 stations away from Shanghai Expo Center. Also very convenient to use line 2 from both airports. Lots of restaurants near by. Safe area, easy to reach by Didi or Taxi. Very easy to visit the Bund or Nianjing street.

The breakfast buffet is very good with both western and asian options, really good.

Staff is friendly, but don't speak much english, but its good enough.

Starbucks in the lobby of the hotel.

My comments to this hotel is top of excellence in terms of comfort friendliness and services, except one thing i need to bring up was the foreign exchange desk where the attendant was quite rude and unfriendly. i wasn't sure that service is part of the hotel 's or a separate unit. The lady was hectic playing with her cell phone and tried to ignore what we needed of help at the moment..

Good 4 stars hotel but not a 5 stars hotel.
Very good mattress (if you like the hard type one).
The wifi is good (3-4Mbps) but can't connect to a VPN (could connect on my cellular 3G connection).
The gym is ok, should be clean up a little (dumbbell on the floor and used towel on the furniture rack). The equipment is quite new.

The hotel is much more closer to Century Avenue station then Hotels.com shows.

Everything you'd expect at a good upmarket hotel.

I stayed on the 38th floor with a large picture window facing to the west overlooking Shanghai CBD. At sunset it was glorious. The hotel is fairly new, and the room was spotlessly clean with a medium soft bed - excellent for old bones.I booked this room because Hotels.com were offering a discount to normal fees, so it's worthy of keeping an eye on special offers. The hotel is about 400 metres from the metro - Exit 12, Century Avenue Station ( walk out from exit, directly in front - look up for the sign on front the building), and because it's on Line 2 that makes it real convenient to either flying in either airport, on coming in on the high-speed train - all are on Line 2. The breakfast is OK ( 78 yuan if you don't prepay ) combination of western and asian food, but the evening menu is limited and I thought quite expensive. Across the road there are a number of night-time cafes and bars with excellent food and music - the area around the hotel really buzzes at night. So plenty of lunchtime and evening options available. I really enjoyed my stay here - I was even lucky enough to have a typhoon come through - watching the weather hit Shanghai central from the 38th floor !!!!

Faded but clean hotel, some issues with service.

Clearly earned it's five-stars a long time ago. While furnishing style is a bit dated it is well maintained by diligent housekeeping staff. There are some good dining options at the shopping mall outside, and there is a convenience store and international chain coffee shop in the same building.

There is a gym and rooftop swimming pool. The gym is adequately equipped for cardio, but resistance machines are lacking. Pool looked nice, but I didn't have a chance to use it. Breakfast was quite good.

Staff could do with some better training, especially at the entrance. The stand for the taxi queue was totally unattended. Taxis rarely came to the entrance, instead you'd be approached by drivers who left cars at the curb who would demand extortionate fares (10x what should be paid) and taxis that did pull up to the hotel entrance occasionally refused to use the meter.
The result of taxis waiting at the curb would discourage other cars from entering. All of which can be remedied by having taxi and car attendants at their station, giving registration numbers to guests.
Instead staff were oblivious, and I can only presume the hotel is content to let drivers try to scam their guests. Won't be staying at this hotel again.

The room was spacious, elegant, and laid out with intelligence, in every detail, for the comfort of the one staying in it. Owing to circumstances, I was in quite late and out early, and so did not even take note of the vibration chair (maybe there is a more apt name for it ?) until departing - next time I will find out how to operate it. All told, this is the best stay, for the dollar, that I have ever had. KN

Good location in the riverside area of Shanghai; lots of food all around, a busy mall with coffee shops and restaurants right across the street and the underground only a few hundred yards away. Taxis everywhere--cheap, if slower than the underground once you've figured out how it works. My single room was small by American standards, but the facilities were great, the maid service similarly great. Internet connection good. Laundry prices were no different than in the States--which means pretty high. But there is a drying line in the bath so you can do your own in the room. Not cheap, but completely reasonable pricing for room.

Good location, close to restaurants, banks, and department stores. Very nice and helpful house keepers and concierge staff. Staff at the front desk are ok in general, some are more friendly than others.
Facilities are getting old, rooms are a little too small for the price, but the beds are comfortable. Include breakfast when booking your hotel rooms if you are most likely to have breakfast at the hotel. We paid about $60 for one breakfast of two, almost half of the room rate per night, which I find outrageous. There is Starbucks coffee just across the street for much less if what you really need is just coffee and croissant.

They were my top pick, but has slipped to 3rd..

It's my option 3 of 4 hotels to stay on my trips to Shanghai and I decide with them on the rate. It has been inching up and as pushed them down from what was once position 1. Being two blocks from Subway Line 2 and the large restaurant complex in front adds to the hotel value, more than their own service.

There was an Expedia deep-discount special ($55/night) that made this more attractively priced than comparable hotels from Western franchises, so I thought I'd give it a chance. Physical facilities were mostly good to very good, except for one of the elevators which kept getting stuck on this first floor closing and opening the door repeatedly. Nice yoga room in the fitness center.

My room didn't have a lot of open floor space, but everything was there and worked (including an Ethernet cable for the hard-wired port, which was a nice touch). The bed was decently comfortable and came with several types of pillows. Trying to decipher the thermostat, which had no English settings, was a bit of a challenge at first.

Many of the other reviews complained about an odd smell. It wasn't odd at all; it was obvious that some of the other customers were smoking, despite it being a non-smoking floor (and, I think, hotel), and some of it came in through the ventilation. Given how incredibly polluted Shanghai already is, this was perhaps less noticeable than otherwise, and it wasn't enough to give me a headache, but I didn't like it. Quiet room.

Nice view from the 35th floor. convenience store nearby, close to metro.

Hotel staff English was barely adequate, and they'd often pull a coworker to help decipher what the foreigner was on about, but we got by.

$55 is more in the range of what I'd pay for a Motel 6 in a rural area in the US, so expectations far exceeded in that respect.

Can’t even arrange a taxi

Claims to be a 5 Star hotel but can’t even arrange a taxi for guests! I tried to ask for a Taxi one evening, and the concierge walked off out onto the street trying to find one. Came back a few minutes alte saying ‘sorry, no taxis right now’. Said they can call a taxi, but there’s is a fee?!? Every person in China can arrange a cab using their phone in about 1 minute... except this hotel?!?
Also, the room was quite cold and there wasn’t only a very thin blanket.
Definitely not 5 Star.

We arrived in the off-season in November. Everything about the place was good with one exception. When we got there, they had shut off the a/c for the entire hotel \"to save energy\". They blamed it on the government mandate. The first day I was there, my room was in the upper 90's temperature wise. Unbearably hot. I was using a wet washcloth and every trick in the book just to keep from overheating. When I complained their solution was to open the window. I complained again and then they bring up a fan. THat didn't work and they were very accommodating after I complained again they moved us to a different room on a different side of the building that didn't get direct sun all day. the rest of the days was better as it started getting colder outside. The room still wasn't what I would consider \"comfy\" just not a death trap that it was on the first day. Other then this extremely aggravating issue, everything else was good.

Don’t stay there!!!! Warning!!!

This is the most horrible two nights I️I️ have ever had in a hotel in Southeast Asia period. The location is fine but these people shut off the air conditioning and it was so hot I️ was drenched in sweat all night and they refused to turn it on. It was mid to high 70’s outside and yet they turned off the AC. They promised to turn back on the next day and they didn’t. Overall it’s the first and last time I stay there. When I️ when I️ complained about the ac the receptionist suggested he gets me a bucket of ice in the room to cool it off, how stupid can they be. It’s a big NONO

The hotel had normal service for a 5 star Chinese hotel. I was unable to control the heat. The bed was hard. The sheet was a combination sheet and comforter. I found that other hotels gave me a little more control over the heat, but were universal in their hard bed and sheet comforter. If I had a sheet, I could have thrown off the comforter.

The internet was a little slow, preventing me from using a VPN.

Otherwise good amenities in a good location.

This is a rundown facility, mainly caters to locals. A/C doesn’t work, furniture very old, staff doesn’t speak English, yet very friendly. Not worth the saving when you can’t sleep after 13 hours flight because it’s warm.
Big mistake, stay at any of the major chains at least they are accountable to a CEO that lives in NY city.

Over priced for the quality of the room & service

The walls show a great deal of wear and tear. The decorations seem to stem from when the hotel first opened and lack modern elegance and comforts. The sheets were itchy and there were a few spiders/insects present in the room. Honestly the quality & cleanliness of the room are 3 stars at best and the fact they charge for additional soap is ridiculous. Not at all what I expected from a 5 star hotel. I wouldn't stay there again if they paid me to stay in their executive suite.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times for its location and services. It's close to the Metro central connection station with access to Subway Line 2, Line 6 and Line 4. I always like its breakfast buffet with nearly 100 items, delicious. This time maybe because I arrived around 9:00PM, the front desk was not friendly for some reason. Overall, it was a great stay.

This was my second stay at this hotel. It was a great stay just as my first stay however, I did notice a lack of English this time around. Also, the breakfast buffet is lest western than it was before. I tried it one day and then opted for a muffin at the attached Starbucks the other mornings. I do recommend the hotel and would stay there again!

Great Hotel for Business Trip

The Hotel is located in a nice area of Shanghai, across from the Bund. The Subway station is very close (5 minute walk) and makes getting around easy. There is a nice Mall with numerous restaurants across the entry road, and this made it convenient for dining.

The breakfast in the Hotel is ok but nothing spectacular. They offer the normal selections but nothing too impressive. It is clean and roomy in the dining area so that is a plus.

Rooms are not huge, but the beds are very comfortable. Internet works ok most of the time and it's free so that was good. Free water everyday and the housekeeping staff was extremely nice and accommodating. I tried to tip my maid but she refused to take my money. She couldn't have been more helpful. This was by far the best part of our stay.

Overall I would say it is a good hotel for Business and a decent value for the money.

This was my third stay in the hotel. It was chosen because it is centrally located to the subway, good restaurants, shopping (especially if you like computers,camera's or mobile phones) and an easy, enjoyable walk to sights such as Oriental Pearl Tower and the big 3 - Shanghai Tower, World Bank and Jin Mao Tower.
Staff had a reasonable English and were always very helpful and friendly. When getting a taxi, you were always asked your destination so that the driver was told in Mandarin where to take you, thus avoiding any confusion.
There is direct access to Starbucks through the foyer, which was great for a relaxing coffee and snack when you didn't want to go through the process of being in the hotels fine restaurants.
For the best night views rooms on the north western side will look out over Pudong and the Bund.

Great hotel close to metro

I was attending a conference and all hotels close to the international convention center were booked up, so I stayed in this one, which was only 2 metro stops away (2.8 km to walk).

Excellent Hotel - service and location GREAT!

An outstanding hotel for either business stay or with family in Shanghai. 2 blocks to subway stop; excellent food options in hotel and in the neighborhood; good convenience store close by for snacks and anything else you need (or forgot to bring). I would stay here again!

Very good location. About 200m away from the subway. Subway is interchange station so you practically can get to anywhere you want. Hotels is also surrounded with many restaurants.
