Overall a conveniently located hotel in the heart of the city. The “pool” is more of a large bathtub than a pool really but that did not bother us. The restaurant on site has limited options and room service is non existent. You are paying for the location although our room was nice and we had a large terrace. Housekeeping forgot about cleaning the terrace and we found prior guest underwear outside which was a bit strange

The electricity was not working in the first room. We were upgraded to a bigger room but here the air conditioning was ineffective. It was at the time of year (mid-April) when the system needed changing from heating to cooling. This change had not yet been effected. The staff were helpful and offered us an electric fan. The curtains were hung badly - not what you expect in a 4* hotel. However, overall we enjoyed our stay.

I booked one of the top tier accommodation in this “hotel” - the Prestige Apartment- for a comfortable and upscale 4 night stay and what a got was the opposite - an awful nightmare.

The hotel has an amazing location in the city of Viana but the positives end here. My room was located in an adjacent building and it was a run down apartment as far as it can be from a “prestige apartment” with worn out tacky furniture and no internet service.
I had to work remotely during my stay so I told the reception employee, Sr Rui Braga, about the internet issue and night after night I was unable to work because there was no internet at all in my room or very weak and inconsistent internet. So for the first 2 nights I ended sitting in the hotel lobby, that was empty like most rooms in the hotel, and worked until late using the WiFi available in that area. In the third night I was to tired to argue and request them to fix this issue that I just didn’t work and in the next morning, I decided to leave and spend my final night in another hotel that could provide decent internet service. I left early in the morning and no one was available to check me out, so I left my information and later got an email letting me know that I would have to pay for the last night (the fourth night) since my reservation was no refundable. What?!
I didn’t leave because I wanted to, I left because the hotel is a dump that can’t even provide basic internet to guests. I had no choice.

The best customer service.

This is such a beautiful hotel but what made it so great was definitely the excellent customer service from Rui and the team.They went above and beyond and it really does make a difference. I stayed the next night at another hotel the next town over and it really wasn't the same at all.

I highly recommend this hotel and a service it provided.

The hotel is very well located on the main avenue in the historic center of the city. It is a very old building that was converted into a hotel preserving much of its original structure. The room I stayed in was spacious, but I cannot define it as comfortable. The bed mattress was hard. The room does not have air conditioning (which is common in Europe), so you have to leave the window open for the room to cool down. That normally is not a problem for us, but the noise and the traffic on the avenue make it difficult to rest unless you close the window, which we could not close until midnight.

Breakfast is included and has a good variety, but it is served by only one employee, who did her best to diligently serve customers, but was not enough to serve all the needs. During our stay we got the impression that the hotel operates with the minimum staff.

I can't say it was an unpleasant experience, but I don't think I will stay at this hotel again in the future.

A friend and I stayed in Casa Melo Alvim for one night. It was right by the bus station, about a 2 min walk, and therefore super convenient to our needs. The front desk was super helpful and very welcoming. A gentleman with a ponytail hair style, served us. Unfortunately, we did not get his name on arrival or the following day when he was again super helpful, He went way beyond the norm to help us get to the bus station in a hurry as we had made a mistake with the departing time of the bus. He welcomed us to Casa Melo Alvim and invited us to regard the hotel as our home from home for our stay. We were very impressed by this individual who made our stay memorable and enjoyable. We cannot but recommend this hotel as a great stop in beautiful Viana do Castelo

This is a well positioned hotel, close to the railway station. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Usually when staying in an apartment there is the ability to make coffee and a free coffee sachet, but neither were available here, which was disappointing.

Due to the reduced number of characters I will try to be succinct.

Lack of information during Check-in. The guests before us got a long and detailed conversation, we got the most basic talk.

Old-fashioned utilities (some understandably, given the nature of the building, others like the bathtub, not so much.)

Impossible to take a bath due to a malfunction in the bathtub. Also, no slip resistant mat, and a dirty shower curtain.

Air conditioning duct full of dust.

Minibar wasn't even on.

Thick layer of dirt behind furniture.

Rich fauna of spiders and insects.

Dirty windows in the bedroom and at the restaurant.

Expensive microwaved food at the restaurant (Confirmed by staff)

Icing on top of the cake was, knowing my wife is pregnant, the bedroom phone wasn't even connected and there were no instructions to call the reception.

The only person who was really attentive and helpful was Fabiana, that works at the restaurant.

I complained about all of this at check-out and didn't even get a discount. The person simply tried to justify everything with the most idiotic excuses.

I wish I was able to stay for more than one night. The hotel is beautiful and enchanting. With part of it built in 1509, it has it quirks that would come with the age, but that was part of the experience.
The staff was incredibly helpful providing maps of the city, suggestions for sights and food, and overall so friendly.

Great location, right next to the train station. Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful. They changed our room immediately when we pointed out that our window was facing a building site. Breakfast was lovely.
We would have felt more comfortable if there were cushions on the sofa and kettle, tea/coffee available in the room.
An advice for the travelers who stay in this hotel - try to be light footed when walking on the wooden floor as the sound of movement can be heard by other people who stay next or below you.

What’s not to like ?

Lovely 20-room boutique hotel in centre of city with extremely helpful staff, parking possible right outside the front door, and a thoroughly nutritious and interesting buffet breakfast. The hotel building is 500 years old, yet close to shops, restaurants and sightseeing opportunities. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Really beautiful old building, very stylishly renovated. An experience to stay in esp after visiting Portugal and seeing the old buildings from the outside to stay in one is very charming. Grand stone staircase in reception is very cool. Staff super helpful. Only negative is bathroom a bit dated and Bath and shower a bit small.

Old world charm

Amazing 16th century former mansion near the town centre. Everything within easy reach and the staff cannot do too much for you. Only real criticisms are that the rooms could maybe benefit from some modernising - for example our room was lacking in the number of electric sockets needed these days for re-charging phones, tablets, etc and the hotel is on a busy road which might put some off. But the good hugely outweighs the bad and overall highlight recommeded.

Two of fun made great by the staff at this hotel.

The front desk staff are so helpful no matter what the question they found the answer. This beautiful and immaculately maintained hotel although it was a bit loud because it’s stone construction it wasn’t unbarrible is a great choice. There food was amazing and reasonably priced breakfast, lunch or dinner. Centrally located in town it is a great jumping off point for your travel in this awesome old world with new world flair ! I would stay over and over again. My thanks to the staff !

Lovely hotel, located 30 seconds from the station!

Fantastic hotel! Very unique in its look, almost has a castle like feel to it inside with stone walls on all side. Located just outside Viana do Castelo station in the main square which is close to everything and a 2 minute walk to the river side.
Staff was extremely friendly and the service was top notch.
Highly recommend!

Sandra the receptionist on arrival was very helpful friendly Although it's a 4star hotel it's under staffed breakfast not good the same staff member tends to reception and breakfast while doing dishes. One particular member of the staff that I don't have the name but seamed to be a manager or higher very unhelpfull and argumentative when we asked to have a suit and dress steamed considering they offer a laundry service said it was impossible to have it done in time frame. I then took those same items to a local dry cleaners and had them done within a couple of hours.
The room luxury double had an air com machine for a view on one side the noise of trains kept waking we up and was not cleaned on the Sunday. Bathroom needs to be updated shower curtains on a bathtub don't belong in a 4star hotel

We loved this 16th century hotel. The artistic decor follows a theme of stone and iron, with great attention to detail. The bed was the most comfortable either of us had ever slept on. Our only slight criticism is weak shower pressure, but this is minor when considering the pleasure of staying in this hotel. The staff were pleasant and very helpful with maps to local sights.

A very pleasant hotel . offers charm and character not found in many present establishments. A wonderful old building that has been preserved and accommodates guests who appreciate peace and quiet. Breakfasts are above average and the staff cannot be more helpful. We spent two days in the hotel and for once wished we could have stayed longer.

A beautiful hotel in Viana do Castelo

it was a wonderful one-night stay in an historic building that has been perfectly upgraded while preserving its architectural identity. The breakfast was excellent and the hotel was centrally located near both the train station and the old town (a very quaint place). The parking in front of the hotel was for free, which is a definite plus. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Viana do Castelo.

The hotel is in a good location being very close to the train station and a few minutes stroll to the old town and waterfront. Carparking is free and no trouble when we were there. The building is beautiful and the rooms individual and characterful. The granite staircase is beautiful. We were a bit worried about traffic noise but with the windows and shutters closed it was not a problem at all. The antique beds were a little small and hard for our taste. The bathroom was modern and well appointed. The breakfast was plentiful with many choices. Staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel is also very close to a new massive shopping centre which has a lovely open roof terrace with fantastic views - a nice place for a drink.

La estancia en suite familiar es en un edificio anexo al principal. No habia calefacción, ni mantas adicionales.

Para el sofá-cama del niño solo pusieron sábanas, por lo que hubo que taparlo con una cazadora.

Muy mala limpieza, manchas en el suelo y polvo de muchos días acumulado en muebles y salientes de las paredes.

Un hotelque como he comentado es bueno en todos los indices; pero creo que hay que indicar algo mas...sus empleados... Rui, que trabaja en recepción, cuya mayor divisa... es hacerte sentir en tu casa, ademas es un hombre que se desvive por ello, sintiendote arropado en todo... o como la directora no para de acceder a las diferentes secciones de la casa, para que todo este perfecto... me gusto mucho la experiendia, no solo era un hotel... era algo mas, como tu propia casa

Para um hotel 4 estrelas precisa melhorar muito

A estadia começou bem no check in, com o funcionário Elvis mas depois foi uma sequência de problemas. Percebi que no quarto só haviam 02 travesseiros e solicitei mais 02 onde houve uma resistência para resolver com alegação que o hotel estava cheio (funcionários da parte da tarde) e foi resolvido. Quando experimentei o colchão constatei que era de péssima qualidade,nem um hotel 02 estrelas ofereceria tal colchão, ou seja uma noite mau dormida. E para finalizar não havia nem bidé ou ducha higiênica, repito para um hotel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ fica muito a desejar. Somente o café da manhã e o atendimento do funcionário Elvis foram excelentes.

O hotel está muito bem localizado, mesmo no centro da cidade. É um edifício histórico, cheio de charme e bem recuperado e conservado. Pareceu-nos que funcionaria melhor com mais funcionários. Trevligt dygn i en vacker stad.

Allt var toppen, vackert rum i stadens äldsta privat bostad just bredvid centralen och med parkeringsgarage bredvid hotellet. Servicen utmärkt. Det ända negativa var att sängen var väldigt hård men vi bad om en extra bäddmadrass och bara tio minuter senare hade vien, det kallar jag service. Frukosten var superb. Väldigt mycket för pengarna.

Beetje teleurgesteld want de foto‘s op website stroken niet met de werkelijke kamer. Zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel, het huis op zich is mooi maar het is voor mij geen 4 sterren waard, qua netheid en ontbijt kan er veel verbeteren, de badkamer is gedateerd. Wel leuk zwembad.
