The property is interestingly historic and kitschy but could use some updates and maintenance. Our room was a good size but a bit run down. However, the state of things is reflected in the reasonable rates for the area. Staff were helpful. The outdoor spaces are very nice. The pool is large and inviting.

Executive tower is not a tower but the newer side of hotel. Beautiful views bc of bay windows with cozy chairs. The bed is a foam type mattress. Very nice.
The historic side feels quaint.
Hot tub is fine.
Take time to enjoy the art, the \"Hearst castle\" motif.
Enjoy the wine cellar downstairs (there is an elevator too).

We were booked into a room off the patio where a very loud party was scheduled and we're not informed before hand about this at the time of booking and also when we checked in. When we confronted the staff about this they didn't care or offer a solution. There attitude was 'deal with it '.

I was very disappointed with our stay. The hotel looked nothing like the photos online. We booked a Junior Suite expecting the sofa to convert into a sofa bed, but it did not, making the extra space essentially useless for our needs.
The room felt very outdated, and the furniture was dirty with dust throughout the room. Overall, the property looked and felt more like a 2-star hotel than what was advertised. And there was no usable pool. For the price we paid, ($900 for 3 nights) we expected a much cleaner and better-maintained room.
The only positive part of our stay was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, courteous, and helpful.
Unfortunately, because of the condition of the hotel, I would not stay here again or recommend it.

Great value for the money, the rooms were spacious, especially the suites … bathroom was clean and there was an extra vanity sink outside the bathroom for multiple family members to get ready.
The history was also appreciated where multiple Hollywood states stayed there so that was a cool historic touch. A little dated, but not anything that would concern me because the price point was perfect.

After checking in we entered the room and immediately noticed a bug on the pillow. I quickly took a photo of it and we left the room as it was a bedbug. We went back downstairs to talk to the girls at the front and after telling them one of the workers proceeded to laugh while another offered to switch us rooms. I told them I would like a refund and they told me I would have to contact Expedia. I do NOT recommend staying here.

I had a very disappointing experience staying at this hotel.

First, the rooms were extremely small, and the so-called queen-size bed was noticeably smaller than a standard queen bed. The hotel was also very noisy throughout my stay.

On the second night, the hotel hosted a wedding in the courtyard. The music was extremely loud and continued late into the evening. No one informed us in advance that a wedding event would be taking place during our stay. Had we been notified, we could have decided whether we were willing to accept that level of noise or make other arrangements. Instead, guests were left with no choice but to endure the disturbance.

The music continued until around 11:00 p.m., at which point I had to go to the front desk and complain. I also requested a different room, but my request was denied. I felt that the hotel showed little consideration for the comfort and experience of its guests.

In addition, the hotel's phone system was not functioning properly. Two days before my arrival, I repeatedly tried calling the hotel's main number (ending in 7777), but after ringing several times, the calls would disconnect. I reported this issue to the front desk and even demonstrated the problem in person, yet it remained unresolved.

The front desk staff were also very slow in assisting guests, which added to the frustration.

Overall, my experience was far below expectations. Between the small rooms, excessive noise, poor communication, unresponsive phone system

The grounds of this property are very pretty and I do know that this is a historic hotel but the inside is disgusting at least the old part. I don’t know about the other side, but we stayed in the old part hallways are gross. The smell because it’s so old is extremely damp and it smells like stagnant water the room or bathroom I should say is horrible. The top part of our pedestal sink was actually falling off it’s broken and detached and they just set it on top very old very smelly. You can maintain history and still do improvements and they need too bad. I’ll never stay here again. Also, two people checking you in the line was through the entire waiting area and out the front doors.

The first room we were put in the fridge didn't work. I own 3 air bnbs that I rent out. I did not mention to the staff I was handicapped and would have preferred a room closer to the parking lot. We could not get an early check in unless we paid 20$ which check in was 3pm we arrived at 2pm. We chose to go to the bar instead and spend our money there. Then no ice machine on that entire side of the hotel, when we switched rooms walked back to new room and key didn't work. Back to front desk had to stand in the line again, only 1 person at the front desk for a probably 100+ room hotel . We were late to the graduation we were there for so we didn't get to see much of that or watch a loved one walk. Things in the hotel air bnb business happen. I'm only writing about my experience to hopefully improve on this hotel's service problems. As for ice machine, really no excuse for that issue. I'm gonna bet it still has not been addressed. All n all I would stay again because of vacation and some of the amenities that actually are functioning.

This is our second time staying at Historic SM. We loved the history and the character of this hotel. As expected, it’s old. The rooms are spacious and the convenience of a bar and restaurant in the premises is a plus. We use the hot tub and the pool. The hot tub was very strong and hot, but had a strong chemical smell that made us leave sooner. The pool was perfect. We’ll come back!

Although old, the hotel is clean and room was very spacious. The 2 full beds room had two sinks which was nice, though only one thin bar of soap, so I guess only one is good for washing your hands. Amenities were basic, but sufficient.
Fitness room had broken cable machine, some dumbbells, and a couple of cardio machines. Also very basic. Laundry room was available which is a nice plus for travelers, though I didn’t use it.
My room was on the 3rd floor facing the street and road noise was prevalent from the occasional motorcycles or loud cars.

If you want to stay here for the historic ambiance, you might like it. If you want the modern amenities you will probably be disappointed. There was wifi but no USB ports. No hair dryer in the room. Everything was just a little tired and worn out.
I was really put off when I received an email from the property before our arrival telling me the property often had loud events on the weekends and I might want to change my reservation to a weekday. I thought that was a strange bit of correspondence.
The bed was comfortable, my sleep was good, but I will choose a more updated place for our next visit.

The Santa Maria Inn boasts a rich history, having been established in 1917. It combines old-fashioned charm with modern amenities. The pool area is well-maintained, and the hot tub features excellent jets, making it perfect for relaxation after a long day. Inside, you'll find beautiful stained glass windows and intriguing artwork. My favorite part of the hotel was the restaurant, the Century Room. The service was exceptional, and the food was amazing!

Understand the property is a historical site built in 1917, however the property is great need of TCL. Upon entering you get an awful musty smell and the same smell throughout the entire property. I stayed in room 136 which was awful, dirty and scoffed doors and walls. Cracked window in the bathroom. The bed frame is on rollers, very uncomfortable mattress and the worst b pillows ever. I would definitely, absolutely not recommend this place.

Stayed for a night, family of 5, got two queen beds. Spacious rooms, windows open to swimming pool on 4th floor. Lot of history as you go around the various spaces (particularly on the ground floor). Cellar for wines, barber shop, gym, dining and restaurant. The chairs pianos at couple places and the fireplaces will reflect on the grandeur and history. The wooden interior is stunning.
Courteous staff and clean rooms for the prize, highly recommended if you are in that area.

The room was large and looked out on a lovely backyard. But, the room was a bit rough. There were lots of scuffs on the walls, fixtures/furniture were old/worn, and there was a strange, large open space that looked like it once held a couch.

The hotel itself has some beautiful old common rooms/spaces.

We came to town for a graduation and thought it would be fun to stay someplace more unique. We arrived at the hotel around 2:15 and were told that check-in was at 3pm, unless we wanted to pay a fee. So, we waited…as did other people who began showing up. Consequently, then, right at 3, there was a very long line of people that had to wait for one of the two clerks. The opposite of good customer service, in my opinion. The first room we were assigned smelled like cigarette smoke. So, then we had to take our luggage cart back downstairs and wait in the long line to be assigned an alternate room. No real apologies - and no dispensation.

The location is convenient. But, stay in one of the newer hotels in town and go there to check out the cool rooms and stained glass.
