Great pool and beach average room

Great pool and on a nice beach.
Hotel lobby great
Rooms average.
Patio for room had gaps which let people smoke drift in while you were sunbathing which really spoilt relaxing by the pool.
Rooms are now well sound proofed either

Very peaceful.

Hotel was secluded away centers of activity, restaurants, shops etc. That suited us. Booked private pool area which was great. Some entertainment at night - good. Staff provided some classes during the day such as Olive tasting, really good.
Some light exercise classes during the day.
Variety of food - excellent.
All staff very helpful and friendly. Used hotel taxi a few times. Same man very helpful & loads of local information.

The weather turned so we didn’t get to take advantage of the beach and pool. Things looked nice but a bit of a sterile vibe about the place. The staff were not so accommodating about dining in the restaurant and we were finally seated and ignored for almost an hour before a waitress acknowledged us. She was friendly and saved the day.
The power went out when we tried to check out and the front desk were not helpful or trying to come up with a solution but instead insisted on cash with no apology It just left a sour taste. If you are in to organized scheduling with activities sports and fitness it likely would suit your taste. Rooms were very clean and nice though and beds comfortable.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, our stay was very nice.
The only negative comment would be regarding the mop trolleys waking us up each morning. As the corridor floors are covered with tiles, the cleaning ladies were making some noise when wheeling the mop buckets. The place was kept very clean though.

Cold, unfriendly staff and no customer service

We enjoyed our stay but it had everything to do with being on vacation and nothing to do with service. Customer service simply doesn't seem to be a thing. For a 5 star resort, I'd expect being greeted with a smile and a \"how are you\" by most, if not everyone. Every request came across like a \"favor\" which again doesn't make sense considering how much we paid to stay there, staying in their most expensive room. One waitress would even often suck her teeth as she came to clean our table. The managers are nice but really need to train their staff on being courteous. We've stayed at probably hundreds of resorts and always enjoy having the chance to interact with the staff and get to know them. The staff here was cold and unfriendly and it did affect our experience. We did come across a couple of exceptions which was refreshing but really wished people were simply nicer! The rooms were fine, generally clean with a few exceptions and the food at the restaurant was good. It was nice to see they they incorporate Greek food in the menu and would have been nice to hear Greek music too in the halls rather than American music.

The resort itself is quite nice. The rooms are clean and very well maintained it seemed as though the towels where replaced and the beds made right after we finished using them. The majority of the staff where very kind and helpful. The real drawback for us was the \"all-inclusive\" package, and the quality of the food. We realized very quickly that it wasn't as all inclusive as we where used to in the Caribbean. We got a very limited selection of drinks and couldn't have anything with fresh fruit. This was a major problem since I'm diabetic and can't drink any of the sugary juices. All I had wanted was gin, and soda water with a squeeze of fresh lime which I was told was not possible with our package. Our next experience was of the dinner buffet. It was a decent buffet selection but nothing was really of exceptional quality. Everything tasted processed to some degree and it wasn't overly appetizing. Between the buffet and the drinks we decided to upgrade to the Ultra all inclusive so that I could get my squeeze of lime and so that we could eat at the ala'carte restaurants for lunch and supper. With the ultra our suppers were significantly better however still very underwhelming especially our last night (Sunday) when everything tasted like it was left overs from the night before (I had asked for rare veal, it came out well-done and refrigerator cold). We tried the lunch once and stuck with the buffet after that since the food was basically the same. Overall quite disappointed

The hotel was great and eating there was like eating in restaurants everytime. The staff was very nice and the room was comfortable and had a great view. The hotel isn't located in a big city and the buses in cretes aren't very frequent so you should travel by car

excellent hotel for a typical summer holiday

It's an excellent choice for a family holiday. Hotel location is a bit far from Chania center, although you won't need to go to the city, since everything for a fantastic holiday is available in the hotel. We went just once to the Chania center, using regular local buses that pass 3 times an hour. the bus stop is just 500 meter away of the hotel and it takes 40-50 minutes, depending to traffic situation, to reach to the city. Hotel staff are very friendly and supportive. The food is brilliant, you may find variety of Greek and Italian foods in the main restaurant buffet. There is a large swimming pool at the middle of the hotel. some of the rooms are just in front of the pool and some have a smaller pool at the back yard. Ours didn't have direct access to the pool since it was in the second floor. I was happy with the room since it had a nice sea view and it was clean and calm. the rooms are sound proof.
Hotel has a private beach just next to the swimming pool and there are a lot of good sunbeds available in both of the beach and pool. in the sunny weather and calm sea, the water is too transparent and you may see the sea floor and even fishes moving around you.

Poor Value, Poor Cleanliness

There was black mould around the bathroom tiles and toilet area. The bed and linen were fine but the cleaning was basic with little attention to detail. Some hairs by the cupboard door stayed there all holiday.
Had a flood coming through the ceiling of the bathroom caused by upstairs plumbing coming apart. Now these things can happen but the reception attitude was such that they didn't seem bothered, no apology, \"we'll get maintenance to have a look\". Had to ask if the room would be cleaned again once fixed.
If you're All Inclusive, you are treated very differently to the premium version. Very basic drinks, and I'm not talking alchoholic, really nowhere near other hotels All Inclusive for similar or less cost. Not good value for money!!
Food was only warm at best, never hot and again some staff had an attitude, except if you were Greek.

Fabulous resort!

My Wife, Daughter and I had a wonderful week at the Cavo Spada and will DEFINITELY return. We were 'all-inclusive' and stayed in a deluxe double room with a sharing pool which was fabulous. The food was superb, as were the facilities and we would be happy to recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful Relaxing Holiday

Had a fantastic relaxed holiday. All-inclusive was the way to go - food delicious and good variety each day. Staff very helpful and friendly. The only fly in the ointment was the WiFi. It was very poor to non-existent and use of it was an extra charge on our All-Inclusive package. Apart from that I would definitely recommend it.

Cavo Spada is a real treat

The whole family had a fantastic relaxing holiday here. The rooms are around a large central pool with either great views to the sea or the mountains. The beach, although pebbly, is great for relaxing and a friendly waiter from the pool bar will keep you well hydrated. The sea was very calm and clear for the majority of our stay so was great for cooling off in.
The all inclusive buffet restaurant was ideal, with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. The variety and quality cannot be faulted.
What was most impressive though was the quality and friendliness of the staff in all departments. Antonius a do his team in the restaurant work long hours but always are happy to help and make you feel most welcome.
Terri and Poppi in the bar do great work and are polite and happy.
The rooms were kept clean and tidy by a very industrious group of maids.
My wife loved the spa and can recommend the hot stone massage.
The city of Chania is only 30 mins away by bus or taxi and is well worth a visit, the old harbour and the Saturday market were great.
The local beaches are also worth exploring.
If any one wants to try Scuba Diving the team at Blue Adventure in Chania were very professional and welcoming.
The whole hotel is managed to a very high standard yet allows its customers to be relaxed and informal.

Fantastic Hotel would highly recommend!!

Great break for myself and the wife. Hotel was really good, the staff where excellent - really friendly and nothing was too much bother for them. We went all inclusive and were impressed with the quality and variation of the meals on offer (also great allergen labelling at most meals which my wife found handy as she has a gluten intolerance). Plenty of Greek dishes to give the buffet a local flavour. Drinks were plentiful and on occasion brought directly to your sun lounger by the staff at the pool bar. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend Cavo Spada to friends and visit again ourselves.

We only had a few very minor issues:

The TV in our room was not great (remote didn't work and no way to connect an iPad to play back films we brought for the evenings!)
My wife found the beds to be a little firm but this is a personal preference (I quite liked them!)
Availability of sun beds was tricky some days as people seemed to reserve them early.

Quiet, relaxing, close to the beach, laid back

I stayed in room 131, a room with the \"private\" pool. It was an amazing experience. The staff turned the rooms down sometimes 3 times a day which was impressive. The location was a little out of the way but that just added to the brilliance of everything. I was a bit let down by not having the bed I wanted, yet the staff did their best to accommodate. The breakfast is plentiful, however get their early, everything is cooked fresh but as it is a buffet it cools pretty quickly. The hotel waiting staff work very hard to make your stay comfortable and the managers were more than willing to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in if they could. This place will be a 5 star hotel soon but at the moment it's the very small things that have them at a 4.5. Minor repair issues around wooden decking, patchwork on paint repairs, spelling errors on paperwork and menu's (i know its finicky but its the really small things that set the excellent aside). Would I go back, gladly. Top tips 1: learn a few phrases in Greek, the staff will appreciate it. 2. The private pool rooms don't have a direct sea view, but the beach is so close it doesn't matter even slightly. 3. Beach shoes are a must as the pebbles take some getting used to in flip flops. The Cavo Spada is a place where you can get away, be completely rejuvenated in privacy and solitude, or you can get involved in any of the many listed activities they have on offer and meet some great people. I loved this place. Thank you to all the team.

the best in food and drink the hotel has to offer. This was our honeymoon so
we were treated very well and appreciated the excellent and very personable service provided by all the staff. It is a place which delivers an atmosphere of calm.

Excellent hotel - relaxing stay

Our stay at Cavo Spada was very relaxing and enjoyable.

The resort is approximately 45 mins away from the airport by car. The hotel is beautifully furnished and decorated. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and more than we could have wished for in terms of the value of our all inclusive deal. A hire car is recommended if you want to get out and about as the hotel is a little way from the nearest village - 2kms and some of the attractions of Crete and it may make sense to do this on arrival rather than pay for taxis/transfers to and from the hotel.

We would highly recommend a stay at Cavo Spada for couple and young families looking for somewhere friendly relatively quiet and relaxing.

Arrived at hotel to be told theres no room ....taken to alternative \"familly hotel\" full of screaming kids !!!! Picked up in morning and back to this Hotel where we were given an upgraded room and all fine for rest of the holiday !!!

Lovely hotel!

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The location is perfect as its near a town but you feel relaxed and 'away from it all.\" The pool is amazing and the staff are lovely. The buffet food is always great and a good variety each day.
The only 3 small things the hotel could do to improve is
1.the WIFI is slow and very poor and you are only given 48 hours for your duration of your stay
2. we chose the seaview room which was lovely but someone has started to build two buildings which obscure the sea view, this are ugly eyesore as the buildings are just two blocks of concrete.
3. The food was never hot it was always luke warm and their 'warm plates' were never actually warm so the food went cold quickly.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again especially if the hotel looks at the above three suggestions.

Nice hotel, BEAUTIFUL POOL in Western Crete

My wife and I are celebrating our 25th Anniversary with a 17 day multi island tour of Greece. It was very important to me to select hotels that would help make the \"dream of what we thought Greece might be\" come true. Cavo Spada did JUST THAT. From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive, courteous and eager to assist us in every way possible that would make our stay memorable. Our room was nice, clean and had a semi-private pool only a few feet out our back door. The main pool was one of the largest I've ever seem. The water was crystal clear and beautifully maintained. All the pool lounge chairs are in a grassy area that separates the pool from the beach so you have very easy access to whichever you are in the mood to enjoy.

Excellent 5* Resort with Fantastic Service

We were 2 families total 8 people booked this resort for one week on All Inclusive. From the moment we arrived at the hotel to throught out one week we experienced 5 * service from each and every member of the staff. The Resort is very well maintained. We were amazed to see all the staff member working from morning to late night with smiling face. We complemented the catering manager Antonio for his excellent management skill. Most people in our group were vegetarian and we were given plenti of vegetarian choices. Selection of alcoholic drinks were good. I wasn't impressed with the quality of red wine but you can't expect good quality wine in all inclusive deal. The hotel also organized airport transfer, car rental, safari tour which was a great convinience. Hotel location is in a remote area but you get bus from just outside the resort. Hotel staff gave us good information. There is a scope of improvement on night entertainment.

Our experience was A1 - the complex was really lovely. The staff was so friendly and helpful. It was so nice to be spoilt - drinks bought to you - lovely!! The pools were excellent - we had a shared pool with our room and it was ideal for us.

Sharing Pool is a must!

We had a 5 night all inclusive stay and really enjoyed the use of our sharing pool as it was away from the hustle and bustle of the main hotel pool and bars. Going all inclusive was brilliant because you have access to the main bar, pool bar and pool cafe (snacks and drinks throughout the day) as well as the main restaurant. The food was good - always a lot to choose from. The hotel is right on the beach which is really nice. Even in the middle of August, the main pool, beach and restaurant never seemed too crowded.

Quiet Hotel

Lovely spacious hotel. Always plenty of room by the pool or vacant loungers on the private beach which has a lifeguard. Pebble beach so sea shoes advisable.
Rooms clean and well equipped however our 15 son who is 6' struggle with the sofa which was made into a bed as it was rather short. (I thought it was going to be a sofa/bed as in UK).
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Good selection of food in main restaurant. Italian Restaurant poorly staffed and very disappointing - 40 minutes between courses for very small nouveau cusine presented dishes - seems staff try to persuade you to purchase expensive wine as guest on AI package can visit either this restaurant or the Sea Lion bar once during their stay. (Would recommend the BBQ night at the Sea Lion).
Very quiet location with only one taverna nearby so not recommended for people who want to enjoy a busy night life.

By the sea

Enjoyed our stay here although I have some reservations. Good things include the lawn, the pebble beach, the breakfast and the staff. Things that could be improved: 1) if you like me select a hotel based upon the availability of fitness facilities - look elsewhere - the fitness room is a sad affair - small and equipped with a few pieces of rusty and malfunctioning equipment that seems far older than the hotel structure and may have been recycled from a second rate gym somewhere; 2) if you like me select a hotel based upon the availability of wifi ....- the wifi is generally non existent; 3) if you like me expect a good massage for EUR 90.... - the spa services have prices not matched by quality. A final point is the insufficient shade along the swimming pool and the terraces. All of these issues could be fixed by refurbishing the gym, improving the wifi, hiring qualified spa staff and purchasing a few parasols and more chairs on the terraces. Meanwhile I am not convinced the hotel has met my expectations.

Fantastic 5* Hotel

The Cavo Spada is a beautiful 5* hotel with excellent service. It has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere and we had a wonderful time here. The rooms are big, modern and very clean. The hotel is family friendly, but it had a nice mix of people with a variety of nationalities. The pool area was enormous and beautiful, with the sea just steps away. The food was fantastic, with a buffet offering everything you could wish for. We had a perfect holiday at the Cavo Spada and want to thank everybody for their efforts. We definitely will be returning :-)

Brilliant hotel

Having stayed for a week at Cavo Spada in July 2014 we would thoroughly reccomend the hotel for relaxing holiday.
The food was average and hotel entertainment was also average. However they excelled in service and where the hotel was situated in terms of views and beach front.
They did have some food excursions one could go on. And Chania itself we found to be great for shopping.
The room facilities was good - however I would say more 4 star than 5. This hotel also seemed well planned for anyone who needed wheel chair access. We went all inclusive and found that to be the better option, because of you have no car it would be hard to get around to local restaurants on foot.
All round a great resort for relaxation.

This hotel is like living in paradise! the pool is amazing, not very deep but is very big and wide with a lovely little bar in the middle. staff are top notch as well, very helpful.. the hotel is a little bit away from the main town but i actually preferred it that way, no noisy party-ers hanging outside etc, but in 10mins via car/taxi/scooter you are in the main bit with all restaurants and shops...oh and the beaches in platanias are beautiful too! there is a restaurant and little market shops near the hotel also so never worry when you want to get a few little bits and pieces (plus the mini shop they have in the actual hotel). If you want to go to Elafonisi beach..do not pay for the excursion! get a bus times leaflet from a petrol garage and pay the normal bus fair on your own as there is no point paying someone to do what a normal bus will do for you as well. definitely recommend going to Elafonisi beach...its absolutely beautiful! i can't say more then i had an amazing time at the hotel and can't wait to come back!

Tranquil hotel

This hotel is a 5 star hotel based on the hotels on the island, and not worldwide, which is where people seem to get confused. Crete is very hot this time of year, and mosquitos are in full force. The hotel provided bug repellent, which plugged into the electrical sockets and worked wonders. Make sure you ask for two, room and bathroom. The food choices are excellent and I was aprehensive about Crete and wine, but surprisingly enough, the selection was great. The staff are courteous and have no problem speaking English, unlike the French, and the Management team go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Excellent location for a quite holiday, more for the middle aged couples and families with younger children. Would I visit again? Absolutely....

Fin anläggning att träna på. Dock ställdes nästan alla pass in då hotellet invaderades av 120 seniorer som blockade det mesta, inklusive tennisbanorna med egna tränare. När vi anlände dagen innan gjorde receptionen reklam för alla pass som man kunde gå på men så blev det inte.
Främmande hundar på anläggningen som inte togs på alvar av personalen vilket gjorde att min hundrädda fru hade svårt att gå ut.
Totalt sett en fin anläggning med en fantastisk hovmästare!!
