This is a great hotel situated in an interesting part of Shanghai. My room was large, comfortable and very quiet. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and good value. There are many dining options around the hotel. The hotel is within easy walking distance to two major metro lines enabling access to all the sites of Shanghai. A practical, comfortable Shanghai base.

A super competitive hotel based on location, 1930s historical buildings and garden, price, and services. About 3 minutes walk to main subway lines and one of the major streets in city center Hengshan road. Surrounded by beautiful alleys to discover local lifestyles. 1-2 minutes walk to Yongpingli where has different flavors of western restaurants. An approximately $10 per person breakfast is a must try. You will get both very authentic Shanghai and general western dishes. The entire property is clean and comfortable. Staffs are friendly and helpful.

Couldn't find the hairdryer, so not sure if there is one. The heating switched itself off midnight for some reason but came back on afterwards. Otherwise, love the small and cosy room with a balcony. The bed was great!

Overall a great location. Somewhat disappointed in the accommodations, compared to previous locations in the city for comparable prices, but there were some issues with housekeeping and management concerns: 1) Upon checking in, my room had a half-used bottle of body wash. 2) While the hotel provided currency exchange, no receipts were provided to enable a reverse exchange.

Impressive exterior and entrance. Placed near 2 metro stations and a handful of bars, restaurants. Some reception staff are able to speak English. TV and movie options were limited, and the gym didn't open until 9am. A little late for those who want to get out and explore. Very good and reasonably priced breakfast buffet.

I will stay at Anting Villa Hotel again

A native of Shanghai, I now live in New York City. I stayed at Anting Hotel for 7 days. The place is located in a city center, bars, shops and subway. The hotel restaurant offers yummy Shanghai-style-buffet-breakfast. They also have tea room. Door mans and services were descent. The room is small, 12 sqt. maybe, but the bed is very comfortable.
The first 2 nights, there were noise from the streets construction during 2 - 4:30 AM. On 8/6/2017, I was awaken at 2 AM by loud noise again. I called the front desk and I was told that the hotel had no control of the noise. It was a city project. I am a media receptor, I went to the street, photo/video the situation. I obviously did not sleep well that day. The next day, after my complaining, the hotel manager changed my room and awarded me 5 breakfast tickets.
Over all, this is a very nice hotel. I will stay there again.

Great stay in Shanghai

Anting Villa is a wonderful little Chinese-style hotel, with many homey touches and superb service. Rooms are on the small side, but cozy. Breakfast is wonderful, and there's even a gym. The hotel is set in an elegant park, adjacent to a pair of old mansions in the former French Concession. Many restaurants and shops are within walking distance, as well as at least two subway stations on three different lines.

Chinese Hotel in Garden District

This is a good Chinese managed hotel in the heart of Xujiahui area near all the consulates in Shanghai. It's a VERY quiet location in one of the more expensive neighborhoods in Shanghai. Lot's of architectural heritage homes within a few blocks. It's a great way to experience Shanghai that isn't so touristy. The building is older and you can see wear and tear but it's well constructed also.

You will see every night large numbers of wealthy Chinese having dinners in the compounds buildings. Rooms are smaller than more modern hotels, but I think no one would be disappointed here. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast is on the cheaper side for all the food you get compared to Element Fresh or other local eateries. I do recommend walking to Xujiahui Park and giong for a stroll to experience the local life. There's a good English Pub on one side of the park too. It's about a 15 minute walk away. If you want less tourism and more of a local flavor, this would be one of your better choices in a hotel.

Lovely hotel but poor service

My flight was delayed and I checked in after midnight. I was given a room in the opposite building across the lawn. There was only one guy at the front desk and zero butler service, so I had to carry my luggage myself. Realized to my horror that building had no elevator. I was assigned the second level, still, it was 2 flights of stairs.

great place to disconnect

It was exactly what I had hoped for in a stay with my girlfriend. The hotel is quaint, the grounds are beautiful, and the old French feel left me feeling as it we were immersed in an earlier and simpler time. It was a perfect romantic get away and a great place to be located for our further explorations in the magnificent city that is Shanghai.

Because the area was French settlement in shanghai 80 something years ago. The building is mainly French style with Chinese elements. the room is nice and cozy. The facility is bit old but comfortable. The staff is ok, although there is some small incidence but overall is still up to the class. Would like to go back next time in shanghai.

PERFECT LOCATION

Perfect location in French Concession, between two subway lines, #1 and #10. But if you, like I, don't speak Chinese you will have a bit of a problem. Almost nobody speaks English.
On each floor you have 2 rooms a little bit bigger, ending 15 and 16. Hotel serves a good Chinese breakfast, but make sure you either buy it when you book the hotel, or when you check in.

ATV hotel is situated in-between 2 Metro stations. It takes about 8 mins walk from ZhaoJiaBang Rd Metro (Line 7,9) and 5 mins walk from HengShan Rd Metro (Line 1) to ATV hotel.
The hotel Wifi was not stable and slow speed. We did not have any chance to try out the hotel restaurant dining as there wasn't any meals promotion on offer.
The hotel room, bed, bathroom, shower were good. Overall I'm satisfied with my stay here.

i have stayed here before and always recommend this hotel. good location easy to get around. i made a mistake on my booking about the number of beds and they didn't want to help fix it and wanted to charge me. they also put me on a smoking floor. it took a long time for management to want to help. I'm used to this but this was a first at this hotel. i still think this is a good hotel and won't let just one person affect my view of the hotel.

Second time around is not always the sweetest

It will be my second time booking in this hotel. I was supposed to look for a different venue, buy as Expedia recommended... why not stay at Anting since last time it was not bad...

Since there is a limit in the character and I will summarize

1. Staff are rude, from bell hopper to front desk - When I checked in, they assume that I can understand Mandarin wherein I provided my passport. Bell hopper was not helpful when I was checking out and I have to get my own luggage behind the front desk since no one wants to help.
2. No umbrellas in the room, you need to deposit 100rmb for them to lend you an umbrella
3. Only 1 floor is dedicated for Non Smoking, the rest is smoking
4. There is an Air Purifier in the hotel room - which is the best thing
5. Apparently the deposit is different from local to foreigner (100rmb for local, and 500 for foreigners)
6. Easy to navigate to the subway
7. A lot of bars in the area

Good Hotel in Downtown Shanghai

The hotel location is pretty good. It's a close walking distance to the subway, which connects to both Line 1 and Line 2.

In terms of the hotel appearance, it is a bit unusual to see that the entrance walking towards the lobby does not have a pedestrian.

Room is pretty old style, so if you are into traditional designs then you wont be disappointed. There is a little bit weird smell, must have been because all the floors are smoking floor, except for the floor we are in, it could also be because the hotel has this old feeling into it.

It is also near the downtown and bar district, so if you are looking towards to buy things there are a malls around. And at night, there is a good place to drink... although you might have to walk, which is fine.

Good city Hotel in quiet neighbourhood

I have been several times now to this Hotel because the good location in Shanghai.
It is quiet there ( Hotel is in a side street with a garden), the staff speak english and the price is reasonable.
Metro is nearby.
Hotel is clean, rooms are clean.
Bath with toiletry and slippers, hairdryer, shampoo. Roomsafe.
Rooms have good size and beds are ok (take care chinese beds tend to be hard).
No problems to walk around in the neighbourhood at night. Close by nice Restaurant/Villa with garden and european food.
Did not eat in the Hotel restaurant at all.

Beautifully park-like situated and conveniently located European style hotel on a quaint and quiet street. Short walking distance to the subway and all main attractions of the district. Apparently a popular sight for weddings as we have witnessed three in one week. Helpful staff. Affordable rates. Will stay there again next time.

We enjoyed our stay at Anting Villa. This is the third time I have stayed here and we were not disappointed. The only reason I didn't not give it a 5 rating overall is because of the cigarette smell in the lobby and hallways. I realize this is not entirely the hotels fault....mostly the inconsiderate that insist on smoking whenever.... wherever.

The hotel is very impressive looking upon arrival. the location is great....close to the Metro, good restaurants and a Starbucks. The room was very nice...clean.... except for the carpet which was covered in stains. Breakfast was okay by western standards...omelette and waffle station. Each room has a balcony but the door to the balcony is locked making it inaccessible .....a huge problem since the a/c was turned off making the room stifling hot at night. The was a tiny window but so small didnt help with ventilation. Also, a smile from the front desk staff would have been a nice welcoming touch

Good quality hotel

The Hotel is in the old style but unlike many in Shanghai has not been allowed to waste away. All public areas are clean and presentable, the rooms are clean and well cared for and everything works quite well.The staff speak very little English so I would not recommend this place to anyone who is new to China, it's probably not a good holiday stopover but for experienced China travellers it offers a better than usual experience.

A good hotel in the 'old French Concession'

The Anting Villa Hotel is in a really nice part of Shanghai - lots of great eating and shopping, quiet tree-lined streets, and very close to the Metro (Line 1 especially). Helpful staff. Very nice breakfasts! I love Chinese breakfasts, but even if you don't love them you have a buffet style choice of dishes. The garden-view room is quite comfortable except for two drawbacks in my case: I really struggled with the dim reading light at night; and the musical fountain outside - four hours of Johann Strauss on a 10-minute loop, up loud, every night!

Quiet, restful and yet close to great activities

Great park like surroundings in quiet neighborhood - close to French Concession. Short walk to subway, ATM, international restaurants & shops. Reception gladly calls for a taxi. Staff speaks English, is friendly and customer focused. Hotel is very clean with small extras i.e. office supplies in room, wide range of toiletries, daily bottled water, coffee and tea, English newspapers, English News channels, free internet, etc. Hotels notoriously provide poor lighting at desk. The desk lamp had a nice warm glow but was not sufficient for working or reading. Good selection of breakfast foods including fresh farm eggs. Breakfast Asian and Western available. Swiss cappuccino machine - all you can drink. Definitely can recommend this hotel.

Ok hotel but far from downtown

The location of the hotel is not ideal since it's quite far from the vital areas of downtown Shanghai, so you end up spending a lot on cabs back and forth- also, cabs are sometimes quite hard to find and traffic can be a big issue. Otherwise, the room had very good amenities including slippers and an electronic safe. The staff doesn't speak English but they are nice and helpful.
The hotel restaurant doesn't have a good variety of dishes and if you don't eat pork or have other restrictions, you will need to eat elsewhere.

If you want a quiet place and yet convenient, this is it. It has a nice front garden-like yard to soothe yourself in an unrest city. Hotel condition is as expected. But the breakfast is way below other similarly priced hotels. My room has a very nice balcon. Yet it is locked out!

Shanghai Anting Okay

Hotel location is convenient and close to subway. It covers internet. That's what I like the most. Room is okay, but bed is more like a full size and has smoking smell. I would like to enjoy some Suna in the fitness room, but was told it will cost extra. Overall is okay with a fair price.

Anting Villa Hotel in Shanghai

We stayed at the Anting Villa Hotel during a recent vacation trip to Shanghai. We chose this hotel primarily because of its location in the French Concession, although I do not believe it was exactly located right in the French Concesion area. However, the hotel grounds were lovely and quiet and the subway station was a few minutes walk away just around the corner. There were a few restaurants about a 5-10 minute walk away, including Japanese, Italian and Brazilian food. We only ate at the hotel once, amd that was for the breakfast buffet, which to me was mediocre. The hotel itself was moderately priced and although the room was not luxurious, it was certainly adquate. My only complaints were the extremely hard beds (which seems to be typical in moderately priced hotels and you cannot get around this unless you book an expensive room at a western hotel chain) and the fact that the air conditioning really wasn't air conditioning. Although there was a control on the wall, you could not control the temperature--only turn it on or off--the temperature was apparently controlled by the hotel, and the room could have been cooler. But the staff was polite and helpful and spoke enough English to be able to communicate. In fact, the front desk helped me find someone to repair the broken handle on my handbag! I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a moderately priced hotel conveniently located to the subway.

Comfortable hotel for a business trip for meeting in Shanghai including some sightseeing. Located close to metro station and good eating spots. Service good. Corridors somewhat dingy and mattress on the firm side. Otherwise excellent.

Grand building, lovely setting, service lacking

The hotel setting is lovely and quite grand. Unfortunately, they shifted us for some reason from one room to another down the hall about 10 minutes after check-in, and the second was even smaller -- a bed, desk and chair, but virtually space on which to place things. This was a problem, as we had a lot of luggage. The shower was weak and rather poor but, apart from being too small, the room was OK (in-closet safe, flat-screen TV, free wired Internet).
One woman on the front desk was pleasant, the rest were not. The bellmen were polite. Not much English spoken, which made for some communication challenges.
When we asked about extending our very reasonably priced, 2-day Internet booking, we were told that to do so at the front desk would cost us more than double our current rate -- so we didn't.)
The grounds are very nice, as is the surrounding neighborhood, with the Line 1 metro just 2 blocks away -- very convenient. (Our room on the 6th floor overlooked Anting Road, not the garden, but the view was fine and it was quiet.)
In short, we would stay there again, but would insist on a larger room, and be wiling to pay a little more for it. We'd also bring a phrase book!

Very good hotel with limited internet and imperfect English

We liked the Anting Villa a lot. The setting is very pleasant. Our queen deluxe room was pleasant, clean, functional, and a good size with an interesting view. The hotel staff was courteous, and everything worked. On the other hand, this is a tricky hotel for a business traveler since internet is ethernet only, not wifi, and the business center is expensive and has limited hours. If you have a laptop with wired ethernet, you should be ok, so long as you don't need to print. But, since I had only wireless, I can't tell you this from experience. Note that China Mobile wireless does extend to the hotel, so if you have one of their partner roaming plans (I think ATT is one), you'll be ok too. Hotel staff are very courteous and helpful, but do not all speak English. So, this is not a good choice if you do not speak Chinese are not self-directed. The breakfast with both European and Chinese options is very good, though about 70RMB additional. If you are good at navigating the subway, the location is very good, right in the French Concession, three blocks from the Hengshan Road Station, but slightly off the beaten path and away from the crowds. A good choice.

Beautiful hotel. I stayed in the cheapest, smallest room and everything was still very adequate except the space for sitting at the desk was very limited. Again for the money, it was Great. Plumbing in the bathroom was a little \"weak\" and could have used a new shower head. The only other negative is that since it is off of the beaten path, taxi availibility was slow. Good location for reasonable walking distance to many different choices of shopping, eating and entertainment.
