Room is completely outdated and absolutely stinks of mould when you walk in, we were a group of 6 and all got bitten like mad especially at night in bed. Every single one of us woke up with sore throats and coughing probably due to the mould, pillows stunk of it. The pool is absolutely disgusting and doesn’t look like it gets cleaned, tiles are all cracked and sunbeds are diagusting.

Great location, right down the street from Sairee. Literally two steps from the beach, and the restaurant has an amazing view of the water. Great sunset spot. The pool was warm, clean, and the swim up bar was super convienent. They have two different depth pools, one is deeper for diving (they do scuba courses) and one is the normal pool, both are huge. it was nice to have a deeper option when most places have quite shallow pools. They also have bathrooms right by the pool which was nice, and they were always spotless. The rooms were clean and spatious, huge bathroom, the AC was great and there’s a tv in the room. The breakfast is included, and they offer a full buffet. They have all the western and english options, but they also have a huge arrangement of Thai breakfast foods. We just kept saying it felt like we were at an all inclusive resort, the staff made it great as well. So friendly, so helpful, showed us to our room and even gave us a tour. 100/10 recommend.

Last night it started to rain as we finished our dinner at Montra hotel, which was lovely by the way.
The pathway to our room is not lighted and made even darker with the rain. There are stone tiles leading to our room which are raised at different places, like random steps, which are very difficult to discern in the dark. The rain made the tiles slippery. My husband tripped on one of the raised wet tiles and fell, badly injuring his elbow and knee.
Distraught, I ran to reception and asked for a first aid kit. I found it odd that the hotel manager did not look up once from her computer. Compassion alone should have made her inquire when a senior guest ask for a first aid kit to attend to his 76 year old husband. By the way, the first aid kit is lacking. I went out and bought gauze, bandages and antiseptic cream.
When we returned the kit in the morning, again she pretended we were not there.
I think it reflects poorly on a business when someone injures themselves on your property and management or the other employees at the desk don’t inquire as to the guest's well-being. What if my husband needed hospitalization? This definitely affected my regard for the hotel.

The hotel is is a lovely quiet part of Koh Tao but walkable distance to a range of shops, restaurants and bars.We saw fabulous sunsets and completed a wonderful intro diving course based at the hotel's dive centre before setting off on 2 afternoon dives.
The rooms were huge and comfortable. Lovely staff and a great restaurant with amazing views for breakfast or lunch.

This is a reasonably nice hotel in a good beach side location with a nice swimming pool and has a sufficient number of sun loungers.
We had a very comfortable superior room which was huge, and it had the biggest bed we’ve ever seen! It sounds like some guests have had trouble with the air conditioning but ours worked perfectly,
The breakfast location looking over the beach was beautiful, the breakfast itself was just ok, nothing to rave about.
Some other reviews have said the staff were not that friendly but we thought that they were very welcoming, friendly, and helpful.😀
We would agree with other reviews that the hotel is looking very dated/tired and could benefit from some renovations. The price paid verses the hotel condition is a little expensive.
It is a very easy to walk to the ferry pier, cafes, restaurants, and Sairee Beach
We really enjoyed Pranee’s Kitchen restaurant which is a 2 min walk from the hotel. It has excellent food at very good prices, we saw many other hotel guest there too. 😀
The hotel had someone waiting at the pier to provide a free shuttle to the hotel, this doesn't appaer to be mentioned anywhere when booking.
We would recommend staying here.😀

Great location, close to the port, so walking there doesn’t require taxis. Bedrooms were massive with huge beds. Bathroom however was tired and in need of upgrade. Pool area decent although the pool was dirty and cloudy. Restaurant severed a great selection breakfast and the view from the terrance of the beach and sunset was 10/10. Overall average. Nicer hotels on he island for less money in our opinion.

I booked and paid for an upgraded room with comfort mattresses

Aircondition didn’t work in first room. Got another room. A/c didn’t work again. They fixed it for the 3 day out of my 4 days.

The bed in the new room was like lying on springs. Also it was too short for me, as I am almost 2 meteres, but the bed was in a frame with a High end.

The electricity was incredible unstable. Could turn off several times in an hour.

I asked for a discount, but they continued to say they were talking to the manager and would revert. They didn’t!

This visit put a big damp on my Koh Tao experience. I would look for a different hotel…

The room was great. Very clean and spacious. There's not much of a beach but the view was pretty. The pool is nice and for lunch time there was one particular friendly, flamboyant young man tending the pool bar. The dinner in the restaurant was mediocre. Very expensive for what it was. Trying to be chic but didn't know what they were doing. However, the breakfast was excellent and the staff was fantastic. The lady who runs breakfast and lunch there really knows what she is doing.

The Montra was perfect for what we needed (4 couples and a baby). We really liked our room - it was well equipped, (came with a great travel cot and fridge for bottles) really spacious, toddler friendly (nothing down low for them to break or wires for them to pull), air conditioned, got nicely dark to sleep in and the bed was unforgettably comfortable and huge! They also gave us a room close to the restaurant which was super handy.
The restaurant had great sea views and does a great breakfast. Though I’d recommend eating out for lunch and dinner.
We loved the pool and swim up bar and sundowner drinks on the beach. The staff were really friendly and wonderful with our baby. They also arranged taxi’s for short trips and half days which was super useful.
The reception area was a really calm and useful meeting spot for our group. The location was absolutely spot on, super walkable to cafes, restaurants, shops, massages, the pier.
Though it’s not the fanciest, from what we saw of other places in the area the Montra was the only place that could deliver all of the above things and we really enjoyed our stay there.

I booked an upgraded room compared to my friends for an extra $40/night because I wanted a bathtub and the pool view. For both nights I had no hot water so was unable to use the tub or take a warm shower, and the “pool View” was just getting to look at palm tree leaves. Not happy overall with the experience. Breakfast however was great.

Had a lovely stay at Koh Tao Montra Resort. Always hard to tell what a property will actually be like when booking online, but we were focused on a good pool and decent sized rooms as we were travelling with Grandma and teens. Pool was nice and big and clean. Rooms were clean and very large. Property was very quiet and peaceful. We had an issue with the ceiling leaking when the A/C was on. They came and did a quick fix but it persisted. We just caught the water with a bucket and left it alone as maintenance didn't seem to worried about it.
The location is on Mae Haad beach but is pretty close to Sairee beach (15 min walk). The bustling area of Mae Haad is only a 3-5 min walk from the hotel and there are lots of restaurants, 7-eleven, shops, etc. Would stay at Koh Tao Montra again.

Very expensive for the quality and standard of service and facility. For the price we expected much more.
Food and refreshments served at breakfast was very poor.
No soap, minimal toilet paper until requested. Rooms and overall hotel facilities are very tired and neglected.
The rates for this hotel need to be reviewed so guests can feel they get what they pay for!

We have been to Montra many times in the past, but have not visited for a number of years. As other reviewers say, the property needs updating. Silly things, like knobs missing from drawers, cupboards and doors not opening or closing properly. There was one day when we went down to breakfast and there was absolutely nothing there, not even coffee. Pool towels were also a problem.
However, having said that, we still love Montra. The pool is fantastic, the rooms are large, beds comfortable and the location is wonderful - right on the beach. Staff are also helpful and friendly.
We would have no hesitation going back and the resort could be really beautiful if only they would maintain it better.

We don't like having our room cleaned everyday but the housekeepers went above and beyond to make our stay great by leaving bottles of water, toilet paper and fresh towels attached to our door. This was a very poor hotel and only a 2* at a push... the staff are lovely and bed is comfortable but the hotel condition is in need of up grade. Dining area is very poir and grubby. The pool towels have bleach marks all over them, abd hoing out for the day and realising on an excursion thst the towel has lots of bleach is not good. Great place to stay in Koh Tao if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle but not too far.

Room was HUGE and bed super comfortable. It was immaculately clean. Staff cleaned it everyday for us which you don't get in many hotels.

The pool was lovely and very relaxing.

We rented a moped and scooted over to the more busy parts of koh Tao in the day and to some amazing beaches.

Hotel check in was fantastic. It was close to town so convenient. I felt the beds were a bit too firm.
Pool area lacking enough chairs was a problem during our stay. And the main reason I'm unable to leave a higher review is that on the day of check out we requested only 30 extra minutes due to an appointment we had in the morning and the request for only 30 minutes more was decline. We were unable to go to our scheduled appointment.

The girls at reception were rude & abrupt. The breakfasts were cold, we ended up going out for breakfast. There were mosquito's everywhere. The bed was as hard as a rock. The pillows were old & lumpy. The resort has been let run down & needs a lot of work done on it. After staying at Peace Resort in Koh Samui & then coming to The Mantra we were all very disappointed.

We were collected from the pier on arrival and transported to the hotel. Check in was quick and seemless.
The rooms are huge. After staying in 5 star hotels this is definitely only a 3 star room. The airconditioning struggled each night to cool the room which meant we were hot in bed each night.
Our favourite part was the pool and pool bar. We enjoyed lounging by the pool and having drinks at moderate prices 90-170baht. They also do happy hour between 5-7pm daily.
The buffet breakfast has what you need for breakfast but is average quality and options available.
It was located only 500m from the pier and 1.5km from sairee beach.
For the price... this hotel is well located, comfortable and we would stay again.

Sorry to say we were very disappointed with our stay in the montra the hotel is very worn bedding is grey and thread bare towel are grey and old the bedding was not changed the whole week of our stay the only cleaning they done was sweep the floor and make the bed the mirror in bathroom was never cleaned the breakfast was disgusting lots if flys around the food was uncovered must if the time no waitress or waiter service plastic beaker for coffee all stained would never stay again ask for refund but was refused

Really nice (okay - a bit old) hotel with a really nice crew.

Yes, some facilities are a bit older... but that's okay! The reception and the crew is so welcoming and when you walk trough the hall (with a great view of the pool) you can feel the holiday-feeling.

We got an upgrade and had a really nice and big (!!) room with a nice view.

One we had a problem with our toilet (around 09pm). Just after a few minutes someone came, checked and repaired it. Always friendly and always with smile.

Also the breakfast was good (can not unterstand previous reviews - maybe the breakfast changed?!) Who expect a 5-Star Hilton Breakfast need to book a 5-Star Hilton Hotel ;-)

Shuttle Service, ticket booking and motorbike rental - all perfect and good service (with a smile!)

An amazing hotel. Staff were very accommodating and so helpful. Just for the record, for every location and every hotel we stayed in all were very similar but the breakfast choice here at the Montra resort was something else. It was a buffet style breakfast. It varied from local Thai cuisine to westernized food, salads, fruits, baked goods, it pretty much covered everything. I could go on about the resort but everything already said on previous comments pretty much sums the place up. There just didn't seem to much on the breakfast side. Great stay and I would definitely return.

I’ll start with the positives. The staff were friendly and really tried there best to assist guest requests, the hotel restaurant was reasonably priced and had good food, and our room (the beach bungalow) looked really nice. Unfortunately, it was otherwise a disaster. The door to the pool could be pushed open even while locked, so anyone could just walk in our room. The shower took no less than 15 minutes to get warm. There were ants, spiders, and millipedes in our room. I actually woke up with one crawling on me. We couldnt even call local numbers without going to the reception to use a mobile phone. Housekeeping only cleaned our room once during our 5 night stay. In terms of the services offered, it was a bit like North Korea. The presentation and the reality did not match. We did laundry through the hotel, it took 2 days and came back with detergent marks on it. We tried to book tours that were supposedly offered, but were sent elsewhere. The restaurant closed before it should have according to the hotel’s own info book. We tried to have in room massages as the hotel’s info book said was possible, only to be told that they don’t actually do that and there was only one masseuse working that day. We ordered margaritas, which were brought to us half full. It is also worth mentioning that this hotel is not really on the beach. It is on a small strip of sand, but that’s it. It was just the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had and this is the worst review I’ve ever written.

our overall experience was very good. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. At one point we had to. hange rooms (twice actually) which could have been a bad experience but they made the move very easy.m

The property, although a bit tired looking, is beautiful. The reception staff are excellent but it stops there. Pool staff , restaurant staff need some serious customer training. I wish I could excuse them for understaffing but each area is well staffed if not overstaffed.
I do not think language was the issue but it was more a serious lack of smiles and knowledge about the importance of first impressions .
The breakfast was just OK and don't even ask for an omelette any other way than the omelette specialist wants to prepare it. This is off season here , so I would not want to be here over Christmas.
Such a shame since it's a Lovely property in a good location

Rooms need upgrade, beach is okay

The rooms smelled very moldy, beds were hard with just one really heavy blanket. Pool was nice though rarely someone at the swim up bar to bartend. Beach was okay, right at the edge of the boat harbor area, so a little dirty but enough of a swimming area. Easy to get a taxi boat from as well. Good restaurant and nice evening bar staff and music.

Potential to be a great hotel

- The wifi is terrible
- Towels at the pool are small and old
- Rooms are amazing and spacious, yet the front door is ancient and didn't feel secure
- Umbrellas at the pool are disgusting

Such a nice big pool area, 5-10 min walk to centre of Sairee, great location - frustrating because it just needs these small things to be improved and it would make a massive difference!!

Broken air con in the room on arrival. They promptly moved us into a new (better) room for no extra charge. Are is much quieter than further up the beach. Enjoyed the pool/bar so much we extended our stay.

I am not one to complain normally but this is an exceptional case and I have to let others know of my experience.

Following the death of an immediate family member three weeks ago we had to leave the island in a rush to catch a new flight home.. while checking out of the hotel we enquired about a refund for the remainder of our holiday (as we had to buy new flights and we're short of cash) and they told us to contact expedia. I have emailed expedia four times (who have been very helpful and understand my situation) and the hotel has ignored their requests to authorise a refund every time. And now we are three weeks later and still no further on. The hotel saw me in tears at check out and I told them we had a death in the family and yet still no response. I will not stop until I get a reply from the hotel but I want to let others know of how they treat their customers before they consider staying here.

Beautiful hotel on the Beach

The hotel was located right next to the pier and right on the beach, while taking a dip in one of the many outdoor pools you can look out onto the beach and watch the sunset. The room was clean and very comfortable. Staff were able to accommodate our early checkin and check out times. Overall great experience!

Huge pool close to peir and the beach from

Wife and I stayed here. We used this as a hub to get to Koh Nang Yuan, they arranged a water taxi for us (800THB) great experience and at night we had dinner at the hotel resturant on the beach to live music. They also picked us up from the peir. The rooms were okay, but reflective of the price we paid. Large rooms that opened up onto a giant pool with bar and friendly staff. I would stay here again

Noisy and in need of refurbishment

This hotel is staffed by lovely people but sadly the hotel is in need of some upgrade to meet most people's expectations. I personally consider it to be the noisiest place I have ever stayed in with seemingly paper thin walls and constant noise from cleaning staff, guests, vehicles. My room was on the top floor (325) and should be avoided if you wish to get any quality sleep. The first two nights we had a loose roof panel which literally kept us up all night. It was eventually fixed but we were not offered another room. Then the cleaners moved into next door as a working rest room which led to more disruption in the daytime. It was impossible to get any restful peace in this hotel. On more than one occasion I had to go to reception in the middle of the night to ask for help in getting people from the pool at 2am. It is most disappointing for my family and the three rooms that we rented for 11 noisy nights.

Convenient and clean hotel

Very nice hotel, We were doing Diving course near at Crystal so hotel location was perfect for us, it also very close to the pear.
The Center with all the restaurants is about 20 min walk.
We were at the deluxe room. the room was big with a comfortable bed, shower and a bath.
The staff is very nice but they work until 21:00 pm and after that there is always problems with the water (only cold or only hot) so you need to shower not to late :)

Very good hotel

Fantastic hotel. Nice rooms and pool. Nothing to complain. Staff wasn't as motivated/committed as I've seen in other smaller hotels in Thailand (spend a lot of time on their phone), but that's not a big deal. I definitively recommend the hotel.

Smelly room

stayed for thee nights. the room smelt like sewage. complained and got moved - however, other guests staying in hotel said they had overheard reception staff saying to each other not to put people in our room due to smell....yet they did. it was clearly a known issue as there was no look of concern when i complained. pool bar might aswell not exist- service is terrible and most drinks need to come from main bar anyway.

Ok Hotel, rooms were comfortable and large
Beware though do not eat from the restaurant, the food was terrible
I'm not a fussy person but breakfast wasn't great
later on I ordered a grilled fillet steak with salad
The steak look like it had been boiled I couldn't even eat it because it was so chewy and mostly fat, also they didn't serve it with the salad I ordered but cold broccoli. I never touched the meal and I did complain but one of the staff stood and argued with me and for that reason I wouldn't go back to this hotel again

Great location next to Sairee Beach and Mae Haad Pier. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Services/amenities were excellent; had a blast on the snorkeling trip booked through hotel! Room was very spacious and comfortable. Overall, loved staying here for our short trip :)
