Checked in a little before 10 PM, were given a smoky smelling room, which they changed for us to one that didn’t smell smoky.
The place is rough around the edges.
But when I stayed there a year and a half ago it was okay / pretty good, especially with our little dog and the price.
This time, forget it.
But it was late and we were tired.
The sheets and bedding were clean.
Noisy heater, cracked casing around the door lock had been repaired with some thin nails, chipping paint, worn and tattered chair, ripped and cut curtains.
I’m not a complainer. This is more of a warning for travelers.
I wish the business well and I know they’re offering a service that is needed for travelers. I hope they can fix what’s going on and regain a fair standard for customers.
I won’t stay there again.
I’m surprised that it is listed with Expedia at this point.

The pros- pet fees were lower than most in the area, but are $20 per pet- not $10 pp as advertised on website. The cons- the room was definitely not clean. The tub had a scummy ring around it, (wasn’t a stain- I rubbed it off), the shower curtain had mildew on it and was ripped of the rings in a few places, and the bedding had what appeared to be blood stains on it. We would’ve requested housekeeping, but it was late so we slept in our clothes on blankets that we were travelling with.

Unfortunately, my stay at this hotel started off on the wrong foot. During check-in, the front desk staff member was noticeably unfriendly and seemed impatient with even basic questions. We had also called ahead to confirm some details, and the same attitude came through on the phone — rushed and dismissive.

Once in the room, cleanliness was clearly not a priority. I found hair in the shower, which was off-putting, and to make matters worse, there were old French fries and dried ketchup inside the room’s heating unit.

Overall, the poor service and lack of cleanliness made for a very disappointing experience

The room was ok...not good. The bathroom wasn't exactly clean and there was dirt on the floor and walls. Water pressure was a trickle out of the faucets and the beds were hard. Coffee in the morning for the continental breakfast was terrible. We won't be staying there again.

The exterior looked freshly redone. Maine Beer Co. was right next door, Freeport shopping & Harraseeket Lunch were a short drive. Our first floor room was adequate: beds were comfy; lighting fine, enough surfaces to put stuff on; pet-friendly for an extra $20/night. No real dog-walking area; made do with outback by the dumpsters. The overwhelming odor of past cigarette smoke and inherent mold was only barely mitigated by leaving the bathroom light/fan on and running room fan on high. \"Continental breakfast\" meant gluten-full processed carbs. Coffee from an urn was unpalatable, with powdered creamer [used whole milk for cereal in my first/only cuppa]. \"ICE/VENDING\" was upstairs [no sign of elevator at my end of the building]. The vending machine was on but empty [must've been for awhile since a 20 oz was $1!].
Do not recommend this place unless you're desperate and think $115/night is cheap.

This was the absolute worse place. We opened the door and saw mold and went to check out. The woman at the front desk had our card info for incidentals marked on a piece of paper after saying she swiped it. I then asked for her to give me the paper or destroy it and she then walked in the office and locked the door.

The room was clean. The outlet for the hairdryer was not working correctly and we reported that on our way out. The only real complaint we had was the limited areas for dogs to go to the restroom. Breakfast was a big waffle, cereal, English muffins, toast or bagels. They also offered apple or orange juice and coffee.

Keys wouldn’t work, was given two more keys which also didn’t work. Ended up moving rooms, only one key worked and then the next morning neither worked. The gentleman at the counter was visibly bothered by me asking for help. Just an unpleasant encounter. When I was actually able to get into the room it was clean, no problems there.

The room smelled of cigarette smoke bad, the door did not seem very secure, the bathroom fan sounded like a bad muffler on a car, the sheets appeared stained. The police showing up to the room next door on the Wednesday morning was very unsettling. I checked for rooms available in the area but there was no availbility that allowed dogs on a short notice. I should have complained to the office but my husband and I were not sure what they could have done differently. We loved the area of Freeport but would never ever go back to that Econolodge.

I recently stayed in Room 205, and unfortunately, my experience was not great due to a serious issue with the in-room AC unit. The unit had a mechanical malfunction that caused extremely loud noises during the cooling process—almost like a tractor starting up—which would trigger every 45 minutes throughout the night. This resulted in a completely sleepless night during the summer heat.

I informed both the owner and the receptionist about the noise, but the issue was taken lightly, and I was told to \"deal with the sound.\" The noise level was high enough to feel like a health hazard, and even now, my ears are still adjusting from the disruption.

On the positive side, I appreciated that the room was spacious, well-painted, and equipped with a working TV, bathroom, refrigerator, and microwave oven. The food was served hot, although there were limited options.

Given the discomfort and the fact that it was not a healthy environment for rest or sleep, I would like to request a partial refund for my stay. A comfortable sleeping environment is essential, and unfortunately, that was not the case here.

I hope you can look into this matter seriously so future guests don’t have to face a similar experience.

But still I recommend this hotel for friends for location and local things proximity.

The place was not freshly cleaned. Stated pet friendly, but I was told to leave my pet outside and to come in to register. There was a musty odor in the room. The place had very limited staff. Breakfast was unimpressive. Worst place I've ever stayed. Surprised Expedia would recommend it. They did not provide me with a receipt for my stay at check out.

Check in was fine but we were upset with check out guy. We explained him our concern but he did not seem to care about our complaint about noise. He said he was not there last night.

A group of people, don’t know hor many, drank in front of our room and talked loudly derogatory language involving sexual content. I did not want my 10 year old son to hear this. Called reception and receptionist spoke to them twice but they kept doing the same thing shortly after receptionist went back. Not only did we feel disturbed we also felt intimidated. They used front of our room like a gathering please to drink and have night club conversation.

We stayed here for maybe an hour and then left. While we were in our first room the headboard behind the bed collapsed and broke. My husband had merely sat on it. The man at the front desk (who hi is the only redeeming thing about this place) promptly moved us to a new room. This room was dirty. There was hair in the sheets and the toilet would not flush. We then decided to leave and go to another hotel down the street. I also got the feeling that this was a place where some seedy people lived. It did not feel safe. Oh- almost forgot- our door in the second room had clearly been kicked in. The door would not latch all the way. I do not recommend this place at all.

We were lucky to find this place last minute on July 4th weekend at a great price. Area is very quiet and safe; close to a nice diner for breakfast. The room was clean and didn't smell moldy like many motels do. Absolutely recommend for a quick, no frills stay.

Very nice staff, clean and comfortable room. Lid to ac was broken and there was a hole in the wall from a slammed door, but I’m not too picky. Traveled with 1 dog and didn’t have any issues. There was a disposed chicken drumstick outside which would’ve been very bad if a dog found it- I was luckily able to throw it away before a dog got it.

Econolodge Freeport

This Econolodge likely used to be a Motel 6. I arrived at 2:30pm to check in, the man at the front desk made a point to let me know that I was early to check in and did not seem too thrilled about me being there. I apologized and offered to return in 30 minutes, but he let me check in and gave me a room. It was a bit odd. It's not like it was 11am and I was trying to check in.

I was out during the day times and housekeeping came by my room at 6:00pm which I thought was rather strange.

Getting around the area without a car isn't bad. I was visiting from Boston. There is a bus called Metro Breez that stops in front of the hotel and across the street. There are buses to Portland and the other direction into Freeport.

Overall this was the cheapest budget option I could find. Beds are creaky but comfortable. Pillows are mushy with no support. Bathroom and shower were clean, water was nice and hot. I will likely stay elsewhere next time I'm in Freeport.

The hotel appears to have upgraded the rooms. They are very clean and modernized with nice furniture and amenities. However, the outside of the building and property are in much need of repair, paint and landscaping. The outside makes it look like a cheap roadside motel. With the right first impression, this place which is in a great location, would probably see more travelers stop to stay. A little flowers planted, bushes and trees trimmed etc. could make a big difference.
In addition, a better breakfast area with more hot food choices besides a waffle maker, would be nice as well. We went out for breakfast to a local cafe instead. The breakfast offered was not very desirable.

The room is outdated but it’s to be expected of an econolodge! We got in the room and it smelled of cleaning product, which we appreciated. The bedsheets were clean. However we woke up in the morning and there was a strong pee smell in the room. Not sure where it came from but it was very unpleasant. Pets are allowed in this property so I guess it’s to be expected… I guess the strong cleaning product smell we had when we first came in was to mask the smell of pee. Would not be back.
