Nice hotel but breakfast was a disaster

Hotel has been nicely done up, room is a good size and the whisky theme is done really well. For dinner there is no side option for any salad yet you can have chips 6 different ways. Breakfast service is all wrong, waited for over an hour, no cereals or yoghurt in a buffet area, just orange juice. After an hour we got the breakfast in a box as we had to leave for a ferry but this was very greasy and undercooked. Very disappointing but has potential to do better.

The Londonderry Arms is an old fashioned hotel (originally a coaching inn), with an interesting history. The bedrooms we had were very spacious and comfortable, if a little hot. The bathroom would benefit from a little sprucing up, but was spotless and the bath itself huge! Evening meal and breakfast were both excellent, and all staff helpful and friendly.

Good hotel. Would stay again.

Service throughout our stay was friendly, professional, prompt and helpful. Room was huge. Period furnishings- maybe a little worn. Two double beds which were super comfy. Slept like a log.
Lots of storage space and two comfy chairs and coffee table to sit and relax with drinks - ice and glasses courtesy of bar. Small television, hairdryer and kettle with tea, coffee, etc. Bathroom large with shower over bath. Single faucets on sink with H and C worn off. Hot too hot to use alone and so cold unless you want to fill the sink to get your own warm water. Good shower pressure and selection of toiletries provided. Lovely bar area with good service, atmosphere and live music. Breakfast service was great but produce on the poor side. Sausage was synthetic tasting and bacon dry and tasteless like cardboard. Easily could be improved to get higher rating. Location is excellent in the centre with free parking.
Would definitely stay again.

A very tired hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and did try. Lift did not work. We were roomed in the attic, very cold, no extra bedding, room was dusty, lighting and bathroom fan not working, limited on electric sockets, room very large but cold with tiny TV in the corner and one very small window. Very old fashioned and not worth the cost.

The staff were all charming and helpful. I realize that a/c is not a common thing in Ireland but a fan would have been VERY helpful and welcome. The food was okay - there are not many other options open. The servers were lovely. Beds were ok the bathroom was good - water pressure was great. Unfortunately 1 dirty towel was a turn off. It was quiet and the area was lovely to walk around and the Cranny falls were beautiful.

Fantastic stay with outstanding food

We had a fantastic stay. The team could not have worked harder. The food was superb and we has the joy of sitting reading by the open fire on both evenings if our stay. Great location for short coastal walks and a lovely walk up to Cranny Falls. For NI people they think Carnlough is dated. It's not! it's a super coastal town for a relaxing couples break, great pubs, great scenery and great food. We will definitely be back.

Londonderry Arms Winter break.

My fiancée and I spent a Saturday night in February at the Londonderry Arms hotel for a 40th birthday treat. The Hotel is situated in a lovely costal village on the North coast of Ulster within easy driving distance of the Glens of Antrim. This would be my favourite area in Northern Ireland, great for forest and beach walks and sightseeing drives. The Hotel itself is perfect for those wanting to experience a little slice of history with beautiful traditional features next to the sea. The hotel room we stayed in had free WiFi a small TV and tea/coffee making facilities with a bath/shower and toilet. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant and is within easy driving distance of many other restaurants and pubs. Overall it was a lovely relaxing stay in a nice old fashioned hotel that I would gladly recommend.

I like the hotel. Ive stayed a few times. The room wasn't great this time but wasn't overly expensive so its hard to put it down. I was by the road and bit of shouting on the street when pub closed but wasn't end of the world. Could do with lots of updates but nothing that would make me not stay here. the bathroom could have done with an overhaul but i did say in a room before that had new bathroom so maybe its a work in progress. The place has character that i like. For the price I payed it did the job well.

Character By The Coast

If it's coperate blandness you're after you won't find it here. The Londonderry Arms is best described as quaint, and all the better for it.
Rooms/facilities a bit dated but clean and comfortable.Bath/shower combo in the en-suite with lashings of hot water and as powerful a shower as we've experienced anywhere.Large room(201) with a table and chairs, but a bit difficult to find 1st time around.
Restaurant and Bistro for dining, both adequate for our needs.
Lots of areas to relax with a coffe(or something stronger}and complimentary newspapers.
Only minus point is we found our room a little chilly.

Very accommodating staff

When we arrived we learned that the room was not what was reserved (reserved twin, assigned a king). The staff promptly accommodated our requirements.

Spooky

A small water side town. We heard that Sir Winston Churchill had been there and talking to locals found that he had inherited the hotel. Not much happening here this time of year. We drove up to unload our bags on the street only to find a mortuary two doors up from thehotel. We walked into the hotel and an elderly man was looking for his wife. At first glance we thought we were in a seniors home. They found each other and all was okay! We were assigned our room, which took us up to the second floor and through a number of doors and dark hallways, inching ever so close to the building that housed the mortuary (there was a shop between the hotel and the funeral parlour). We tried to change room and given keys (haven't used a key in ages) The second room was closer to the front entrance and next to the street. It also smelled. We decided to take our chances and accept the first room. We ate in the hotel bar. We got there early, but, for some reason were out of their two specials? We ordered fish and chips and roast beef dinner.service was slow, due to a table full of tourist who arrived by bus. The dinners were average. We got through the night and in the morning had a pleasing breakfast in the dining room. After breakfast, we went out on the street for a walk only to find the hurst driving up and parking. We checked out early and we're glad to be on our way. Before leaving the town, we drove up into the hills and then hiked to the Cranny Falls. The scenery was spectacular.

This hotel is big and rambling

The Londonderry Arms address is Ballymena but is in Carnlough on the Antrim coast. The drive there through the glens and along the coast is lovely but the hotel itself is in need of tlc. All the paintwork is in poor condition and carpet in our corridor was in need of replacement. Rooms are spacious and comfortable though dowdy. The food is fine and the service pleasant.

Lovely Londonderry Arms Hotel!

This is a charming hotel with a wealth of history!
Complimentary breakfast is generous, and staff will provide alternate menu for dietary needs. Dinner is outstanding, as well. The rooms are not air-conditioned, but we were fairly comfortable with the provided fan.
Cranny Falls can be reached directly from the hotel and is worth seeing!

Londenderry Hotel in a quaint town

We enjoyed the waterfall. Food was good. The room was in the corner with views of the side street and in the back side out of the bathroom a moldy roof. It was also VERY NOISY they clattered bottles under our window until 11:00 pm at night. It was warm so we had to leave the window open and no fan. The town people were very friendly. The town was very cute and quaint. I think a little expensive considering the type of room we ended up with. I loved Northern Ireland- the hotel was cute and quaint but I felt we probably were given the worse room in the hotel.

Excellent break.

This was not our first time to stay here, but this hotel has improved tremendously from our last visit. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We only stayed one night but the food and service was excellent while we were there. We certainly intend to go back again.

Poor service, great parking.

Nice small Irish town. Fairly near the Giant's Causeway. Service was poor. Had a flashing bathroom light throughout our two day stay despite reporting the problem three times. Could not get any heat into the room.

Lovely historic hotel with many period house details. Beautiful front reception area and dining rooms.

Very attentive and welcoming staff in hotel reception, hotel bar and breakfast dining room. Happy to take order for dinner, even though we arrived late and had just missed the Sunday 8pm last orders deadline for the restaurant. Gorgeous fire with tasteful furnishing and a good selection of newspapers and magazines in the residents' lounge area.

However, the hotel is let down by old, scuffed painted internal doors, skirting boards, door frames and window frames in bedroom and upstairs hallways. In addition, the bathroom in room 203 had a beautiful, old and well maintained enamel bath BUT mouldy, old show tiles and sealant and no extractor fan (cause of mould). Comfortable beds but bedroom furniture would benefit from investment and improvement. Kettle in bedroom was covered in dust.

Lovely homely hotel on street but with parking.

Some lovely old pieces of furniture. Nice relaxing areas on the ground floor and a beautiful open fire. Very quiet despite being right on the coastal route. Nice food in the restaurant and the bar/bistro.

Beautiful countryside B&B

B&B in the countryside in a beautifully decorated home. Bedrooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. Cooked breakfast in the morning was great. Hosted by Valerie who is friendly and helpful and runs the B&B to a very high standard.

Provides easy access to anywhere on the north-western side of the coastal causeway route within a fairly short drive (Portstewart, Bushmills, Giants Causeway), is best found with a GPS given the rural setting.

Highly recommended.

Off season in County Antrim

A very nice 'period' hotel, comfortably old fashioned with big open fires, but also the very latest HD Tvs in the bedrooms. We had just come from a big, expensive resort hotel over the post Christmas period and really appreciated the laid back comfort and relaxation of the Londonderry Arms. We know which we will choose next time! The food was at least as good as the resort, the bill was much more acceptable!

Comfortable, cosy and welcoming

Warm welcome, friendly feel in the hotel. Has old fashioned charm in spades. Great for an autumn/winter getaway - only an hour's drive from Belfast. Good plain cooking in the bar - nothing fancy but good quality ingredients treated simply and with respect. Seemed to be popular with local people which is always a good sign.
