Rooms were nice and service was great. The place is very beautiful and tranquil. We had a ironing board delivered to our suite but then when we left for dinner, some staff had came back to our room unannounced, and without telling us took the ironing board and iron and moved some of the bedding around.

We mentioned this to the manager when we checked out, but it made us incredibly uncomfortable and I don’t know if we would stay there again because of that instance. I hope management will notify future guests if they intend to enter their suites at any point during their stay, whether it be part of their service offerings or not.

A beautiful property in a peaceful setting, great restaurants on site and the opportunity to taste their wines too! Take a walk around the grounds on the signposted walking trail. I would highly recommend this hotel, could not be happier with our choice.

It was with incredulity that we were allocated a room, next to the workers rest facilities/restaurant, and with a view of a wall and hedge.
The Mountain View room we booked had not been kept for us. The next room we were given was of a hedge. Disappointingly, this room did not have “ tranquil werf on their entrance doorstep and private terraces with spectacular unimpeded views of the mountains across the vines or meandering greens”

This is misrepresentation, as are the misleading photographs of a spectacular pool that it transpires - is not available to guests staying in our rooms. We are only allowed access to the small pool at the Spa. This is not exclusive as this is for the use of anyone using the Spa. Yesterday, there were no seats left when we looked in.

It is unconscionable that they continue to deliberately mislead potential guests. What you do offer is interrupted views of Pollsmore Prison

Perfect one night stay

We booked to stay for the night at the end of a 10 day holiday in SA. It was the perfect ending to our vacation: the hotel is gorgeous, the rooms tastefully and luxuriously furnished, the staff attentive, and the grounds beautifully maintained. The pool area is also a quiet oasis. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Beautiful Stay

Steenberg is a beautiful winery with lovely accommodation and great staff. You get a free wine tasting as well. There are 2 on site restaurants - Tryn and Bistro Sixteen82. Tryn is more catered to a fine dining feel, but we felt the Bistro was the better restaurant, for lunch or dinner, but still recommend both. The rooms are large and attention to detail is great, but there was a little bit of noise from the next door room (nothing over the top, but just something that they could look to imrpove). Also, the tin roof cracks and creaks with changes in twmperature through the day. Having said that, we would definitely return and definitely recommend it. The spa is also lovely and very reasonable! And finally, the vineyards themselves are truly stunning and the walking trail through and around them is highly recommended! The staff were also absolutely fantastic and would do anything for you!

Excellent overall, beautiful grounds, luxury service, perfect location away from the city but not too far to get there easily. The only negative was the excessive monetization of every single thing there, serving as a constant reminder that guests are there to be exploited rather than helped to relax. Our arrival was spoiled by the immediate demand that we pay for everything in advance, and everything we requested or used thereafter was charged, sometimes without warning or explanation. It's luxury, but with an upcharge on every single thing, even basic courtesies.

This is a very special place, rare in actual fact. Everything about this hotel and it’s staff is exceptional. It’s a tranquil haven of the highest standard.

The location, decor, surroundings, immaculate gardens and food are all incredible, but such a place can not be this outstanding with the amazing staff. The hospitality is like no other. Personal, charismatic and caring.

Beautiful landscaping. Everything is great, awesome bistro on property, except: (1) no pool heater / pool was freezing 21 degrees C, (2) the mattresses were SO HARD, and (3) the TV in the rooms are tiny, like 32\" or something. Otherwise, it was an amazing place

An excellent hotel with personalised, elegant, attention-to-detail service or the highest standards.

The check-in/out is casual, yet professional. One feels treated like a guest, not a client.

The suites are spacious, super clean, tasteful decorated and well equipped. I LOVE the Le Creuset coffee set; the luxurious comforter and the warm foot-bags in the bed (slipped into the bed when turn-down happened)

The breakfast service in the Catherina's Restaurant is yumchious!!!!

All was excellent as the above ratings will show: room wonderful, service fantastic throughout. The only disappointments were that one restaurant (Bistro 1682) did not accept bookings for after 7pm (too early to be of use to me, at any rate) and the other restaurant (Catherina's) was unavailable in the evening because of functions. However, the hotel did its best to recommend suitable alternatives in the region - and I was more than happy with that.

Wonderful historical winery; comfortable and secur

Great place to stay if you want to be out of the bustle of the city. You stay in a beautiful setting with what seems to be a good level of security for the property. The staff was very pleasant and eager to help with anything. We will definitely be staying again in the future. My only negative was that the Wi-Fi was very slow. But other than that it was a great experience!

Hotel could not do more to make our stay comfortable and worry free. Restaurants were both great and the concierge arranged a 3rd evening out at another venue, with transport which was also fabulous. We enjoyed 3 full days of golf with an instructor at the gold club too which was very enjoyable.

After we had checked out we went to a restaurant which Steenburg had booked on our behalf, the restaurant informed us that a cigar holder had been found. That was a typical thoughtfulness by the staff. Next time will stay there for longer.

Want to Get Away?

If you \"want to get away\" this might be the perfect place. Still close to Cape Town if that's on the list, but far enough away you can see the stars at night. Staff is very attentive, grounds are well kept, security is good, food is amazing... I cannot think of a better way to pamper yourself, play a little golf, hit the spa... Bottom line--this place is wonderful.

Fantastic scenery but would not recomend staying.

Check in consists of signing paperwork that allows them to take your money if you lose or don't return 2 keys for access to the rooms and to exit their security, seemed bizarre to us. Shown to the premier suite we had booked, it had a patio overlooking the golf course. The suite was large but had no sunlight and very poor lighting so was dismally dark. The towels and bathrobes were apalling and are in desperate need of replacing, if you should take one or the corkscrew you would be charged, no one would ever want to take them. We would not want to return to this hotel and certainly is below par to many that we have stayed in around South Africa.

Perfect location for a relaxing holiday

We just loved the hotel and winery, particularly the Bistro. My husband played golf which he said was excellent and I enjoyed the lovely spa. The room we had was beautiful and the main restaurant was very good. The hotel is tucked away in a secured property so we felt very safe and private in the lovely grounds of the hotel.

Our Stay at the Steenberg hotel was fantastic. We were upgraded to a Premier room and we were so impressed - the rooms are beautifully appointed and very comfortable with wonderful amenities and great attention to detail. The hotel sits amidst the vineyards and is a very peaceful place. There wasn't anything we could find fault with. This is an establishment we will definitely return to.

Loved everything about the weekend , and would recommend it as a memorable amd stylish place to stay . Only two points of feedback spoilt the experience . Firstly they were happy to allow children to play football for hours on the beautiful lawn , which didn't really support the peaceful , luxurious position of the hotel . Secondly we booked a bike ride and picnic , but despite a beautiful guided bike ride , and wine tasting , the picnic never transpired . Although they were very apologetic , it did spoil the experience

Beautiful property but a few odd things

THe property itself is beautiful but I found some of the check in and out items a bit bizarre. At check in you have to sign that you will pay if you lose a key or the security token for the gate. I realise the key may be expensive but this impression was that you were signing your life away! Also on check out I said that we hadnt taken anything overnight from the minibar but also had to sign that we hadnt used the minibar. This was a 5 star deluxe hotel and Ive never experienced like this in a comparable hotel before! Also I was quite annoyed on leaving the property as we were going to a cellar tour on site at a particular time to find out that the tour went early (I think due a visit of travel writers) and we were not able to be accommodated even though we were offered this tour on check in. Catherinas restaurant is lovely and the grounds are lovely but Im nor sure I would go back. We paid off season rates and I dont think that high season rates would be worth it.

My husband and I went to the Steenberg hotel for our holiday last December. We had a fantastic time at the spa and Catharina's restaurant as well as the wine tasting and tapas bar. I highly recommend this world class hotel for a relaxing getaway thats only about 30 minutes drive from Cape Town City Centre.

One of the best hotels ever!

I practically live out of hotels as I travel the world extensively on business. The Steenberg Hotel rates as one of the best I've ever stayed in. Pulling up at the main security gate, staff were expecting me and the barrier was lifted. As I drove up through the vineyards to the hotel, I was waved through and pulled up outside reception. The duty manager welcomed my wife and I and ushered us through to check-in which was an easy process. We were offered a drink and then were taken across the gardens to our luxury room. By the time we got there, our luggage had been put in the room and the car had been parked for us. We were shown the facilities and then left in peace. A couple of hours later I called reception for an ironing board, which was delivered within 5 minutes along with a maid who offered to iron my shirts. We walked across the garden to Catharinas Restaurant where we stopped to photograph an owl and her two chicks which was a wondrous sight from close up. Then we were welcomed for what turned out to be a sumptuous meal which we both enjoyed tremendously. Then a good nights sleep and a fantastic breakfast outside on the terrace. Check-out was easy and our packed car awaited us outside reception. The price for all this was cheaper than you would expect, can't wait to go back, which we will.

Best Hotel in South Africa

We stayed in many hotels over our trip to Africa. The stay at the Steenberg was exceptional.

The rooms are well appointed and recently renovated (at least the one we stayed in). The staff goes over and above to make sure your stay is enjoyable.

The venue is the best part - in the middle of a winery and golf course. It is removed from the hustle and bustle of the city but very close for drives to spots like Table Mountain and Signal Hill.
