When I first checked in, the clean towels had make up stains on them, housekeeping didn’t come anywhere near my room for 1 and a half days to empty my bins and replace the towels but when they did, they left the door to my room open and I had to change rooms on my final night because the air conditioner stopped working. When packing up to change rooms, there was a large amount of orange powder in the top shelf of the wardrobe that was covering a part of the spare pillow. Was relieved that I didn’t require a spare pillow. God knows what it was, hope it wasn’t toxic. I regularly visit Ballarat but for my future visits, I won’t be staying at the Mercure Ballarat again.

Arrived, checked in all good.

Rang reception early enquiring how to place room service meal order and was told call reception when restaurant opens to place order thru reception.
Was firstly disappointed to find out there was no lunch service available - I'd been counting on it during heat.
Rang to order dinner & they said 'had to call reception to place my order'. ?????
I managed to get it placed.
My 'restaurant' burger costing $30+ arrived deconstructed in a cardboard takeaway box with bamboo cutlery.
The meat dry, partly raw inside & burnt black on one side - disguised by a business card size piece of thin dry bacon and a slice of some over 'grilled' cheese. I wish I'd taken a photo. I had planned to eat at least one dinner at the 'restaurant' but not after that meal. I wasn't feeling well and didn't have the energy to do more than eat what I could and fall into bed.

The mattress in the 4-star Room 52 needs replacing. It has sunk into 2 ruts! This is not 4 star.

Lastly, there was a problem with the bathroom floor.
It looked clean at first sight. But, after walking barefoot on it and then stepping into the bath/shower I was shocked. My feet left black marks!! For the rest of my stay I wore thongs indoors to keep my feet clean. I took a photo if u need to see for yourself.

I'm a 62 yr old long time resident of Ballarat. I have many professional friends and contacts. I cannot recommend this hotel.

For the brand and price, the hotel was very disappointing - the rooms are very dated with visible damage and in need of a deep clean. The “king” bed was two single beds pushed together and due to the poor quality of mattresses had an extremely noticeable and uncomfortable ridge down the middle. There is a pile of dirty mattresses and broken furniture dumped in the corner of one of the squares around which guest rooms are located.

This was a really disappointing stay as it was meant to be a treat for our first night away together in a very long time. The property is lovely and the room was solid, but for the price we expected a bit more. The room was so light we needed eye masks ideally. There were spider webs in all the high/harder to reach areas & some ants in the fridge. None of this was too bothersome, but the distinct sewerage smell in the bathroom the next morning, made way worse when we had the fan on to shower, was really gross. We let reception know, and none of it was enough to make us change accommodation, but it was really off-putting, especially for $200/night.

receptionist was cold rude and half asleep with lots of people waiting, more staff needed. I told her and showed her i’d paid but she made me pay again!! was refunded the next day.
Green internet light flashed on and off all night. we were put in an average room in a building that resembled an old school dorm - old carpet etc. I’ve stayed here before and i know they have nicer rooms but we were given a terrible one.

The hotel is a bit of old in terms of the facility and furnitures. The quality of the room is bit of like some 3 stars motels as the bathroom is quiet old.

The white sheets are with some stain of bloods which needs to be improved.

However, Reception is friendly and meet the hotel standard.

For 1 night stay is still acceptable.

On arrival, it appeared that perhaps there was a debut ball in one of the function rooms. Once we obtained our key and made our way to the room, we could see how big the property actually was. Being near the back of the property, there was no noise from the function, traffic or anyone else on the property. The rooms were lovely and clean, and very modern, but the hallways and the entrance to the hallway could use some work. Also the car park area for our room was quiet a distance from the room we were staying in, and inconvenient for carrying luggage to the room; particularly when you have several things to transfer. Only for the king bed, the bathroom and the quiet, I will be back again - and hopefully to the same back area of the property where I can sleep easily.

The rooms a quite different at this place. I’ve stayed 3 times at a good rate. So I gave it 5 stars for the price. Some things did not work in the rooms mainly the tv and internet but I will say the first room I stayed in was working fine.but it did smell water damaged. Don’t expect perfection unless you pay for it, overall it’s one of the best places I’ve stayed in Ballarat.

The external property is gorgeous. The restaurant was fabulous for dinner.

The light from the carpark keeps you awake at night. The house keeping was as expected which would only get noticed if you stayed longer than a day or two.

Highly recommend a visit to the Sanctuary Day Spa.

Really disappointing stay at the Mercure. I have stayed there three times in the past six months, this was by far the worst and I will choose another option in the future.
The room was smelly, it was musty when we arrived, there was no option to open the only window to get any fresh air. The skirting boards were damaged and coming off from the wall near the bathroom, making me question if there was a mould issue. The bathroom had a very bad odour coming from I assume the drains. We closed the bathroom door overnight but it was extremely unpleasant to shower in. The shower grout had mould.
We arrived late at night and were checking out before 7am so it was not worth raising these issues to swap room at that point of the night.
The grounds are beautiful but the rooms leave a lot to be desired.

We had a room for 3 adults. Room was not clean. TV only hade 3 Chanel’s, unable to chrome cast due to no internet connection. Spoke to reception who came to the room to say they only have Chanel 7, ABC and SBS. Blamed it in the renovations, which were not mentioned when we booked. The Breakfast was sub standard, soggy hash browns, cold bacon and eggs. Not happy with this place as we paid a lot for only 1 night.

The room was neat and clean and the bed was really comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. The grounds were lovely and very peaceful.
Unfortunately the refrigerator was extremely small, and could barely hold a small amount of food and drinks.
The bathroom was very disappointing - the toilet wouldn't flush properly, the cold water tap in the bath/shower wouldn't work, and it was difficult to turn the water on in the shower without the bath tap running at the same time.

I stayed in one of the newer renovated rooms. It was very clean and comfortable. Loved the rainfall shower.
My only issue is that I wish there was sheer blinds or tinted windows as you can see right into people’s rooms when the blinds are up (majority of rooms are on ground level).

The location is very good, near to everything, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was of good size and bed was very comfortable. The room was clean and tidy.
The bathroom needs an uplift and there is enough space to make the shower standalone and modern. The buffet breakfast options were very poor and minimal especially compared to last time we stayed here and for that reason we will not be coming back again.
