The staff here is extremely polite. The service was outstanding. Anything you wanted the staff will help you arrange. Also, the hotel was extremely clean, quiet, and relaxing. The included spa added to the experience as well. If I come back to Kyoto, I will definitely consider coming back here again.

I had a very disappointing stay at this hotel. Upon arrival, I was informed that guests with tattoos are not allowed to use the spa or gym facilities. This policy was not disclosed at any point during booking or in my confirmation, and it left me feeling singled out and unwelcome as an international tourist.

As a result, I was unable to comfortably use the spa or gym, which were a major reason I chose this property. The experience felt discriminatory and created constant discomfort during my stay.

To make matters worse, I was also overcharged for room service. Overall, the lack of transparency, unfair treatment, and billing issues made this stay far below expectations. I would not have booked this hotel had these policies been clearly disclosed.

There is no possible way this should be a 4 star hotel…everything about this place is PERFECT! 10/10. The staff are so friendly and cater to your every need. We were upgraded to a garden view that was magnificent. They allowed us to check in early and check out late without issue. The property is amazing with several gardens and spas. The onsen really made this experience amazing- clean, quiet, relaxing! We also enjoyed massages at their spa. This hotel was so very well located, and even offered luggage transport from the train station as well as a shuttle service every 30 min. We had the BEST sushi recommendation by concierge for our best meal in Japan. Overall would recommend this hotel to everyone traveling to Kyoto and I wish we stayed for a WEEK! Best hotel experience. Will be back, undoubtedly!

Simple the best hotel in the world! The hot springs are a spiritual experience and the reason I will always revisit this place for the rest of my life. Great location right if the subway and only a 30 minute walk from Kyoto station and downtown Kyoto. For families, this hotel cannot be beat and everyone in my party loved it there. The place was fully booked, but you won’t even notice because the property is so evenly spaced out. The beds were amazing and the bathrooms were simply the best bathrooms I ever seen in a hotel or home. I plan on remodeling my home soon and will draw inspiration from this hotel’s layout. In the morning I loved to stroll through the garden and wait till my family woke up. The only thing that needs improvement is the gym, which I would rate an 8 out of 10. We took day trips to see the monkey kingdom and deer at Nara, both unforgettable experiences!! I want to write an entire essay on why this hotel is the best in the world but I’ll leave it up for you to decide. Best decision I ever made!!

This is my fifth time staying at the Westin Miyako. The location is superb for seeing temples on the west side of Kyoto, and it’s always easy to get around, either via their free shuttle bus to Kyoto Station, or by nearby public transit with a few blocks’ walk. The staff offers world class hospitality. I could not have asked for a better stay.

If there is 6 star category to rate hotels, this hotel deserves it. The customer service just exceeds anyone’s expectation. No need for you to wait in line to ask questions to the receptionist. There are many hotel staff working at lobby to ask your needs. The room is very spacious with oversized veranda. The Spa and hot springs are must. The cafe Mayfair offers great service and selection of delicacies.

This is definitely a higher end hotel, but it is still \"affordable\". The location is excellent and quiet. It is not in the middle of shopping and dining, but many shrines and temples are within walking distance. A subway station is only 2 minutes from the hotel, so you can go anywhere. There is also a hotel shuttle to drop you off at a couple of locations, but pick up is only from Kyoto station - about every 30 minutes. The breakfast option is outstanding and you should try it. The onsen is very very nice. We paid for the \"view\" but we ended up using very little of the \"view\" because we were out all day in the city already, and there were \"views\" everywhere already. But a room with a view does have a small balcony so if you like that, it is worth it. I will stay there again for sure.

The Westin Miyako hotel was beautiful! The room was huge. The nature walking trail that it has is amazing. We took the benefit of usung their shuttle bus to and from kyoto station. The staff was very kind and respectful. Every time we walked in or out of the the hotel the staff wpuld greet us by bowing and i was amazed by their beautiful art inside the hotel.

We love this hotel so much thay we already started planning for our next stay here. The onsen/ spa was nicely planned and well equipped while the staff were super attentive and helpful. I love all the details that were very thoughtful to the guests e.g. flashlight by the bedside, newspaper for your morning hung at the door, separate lift access for spa and gym. Location was a bit off central but they are located literally next to the Tozai line and the popular Yamamoto Menzou udon place.

They are renovating this wonderful gem to celebrate its 130th anniversary in 2020 to coincide with the Olympics. I was lucky to stay in a room newly renovated and it was wonderfully beautiful right down to the state of the art Toto bathroom fixtures.

A 4 star hotel masquerading as a 5 star, with 5 star prices. Staff very nice, room and hallways smelled like toxic chemicals the whole visit (maybe they had just renovated?). The decor and lobby is outdated, they tried to CHARGE me for using the pool lol. It would be nice to get some money back, compared to the 5 star we stayed at in Tokyo and Osaka at the same price, a let down.

The hotel does have a plentiful buffet breakfast, and a complimentary shuttle bus to/from Kyoto station.

The location is perfect for quiet evenings and exploring Higashiyama. Definitely stay here again

Westin Hotel in Kyoto had friendly and courteous staff. There was a free shuttle service that provided stops to select train/subway stations.

The hotel room was chic and beautiful. Very relaxing atmosphere. The bathroom had a spa appeal.

The pool was nice and relaxing, but the closing hour was 9:00p.m. and there was a $5 (501 Yen) charge per guest to use the pool per day. I was not aware of this until we arrived to the hotel.

The breakfast buffet was ok. I would not have purchased it separately had it not been included in the Travelocity room package. It would have been $27 per person and the food and drink selection was mediocre.

Though the Westin Miyako attempts to be accommodating, unfortunately, it does not meet American hotel standards. Firstly, for a business hotel, the wifi does not work well in the rooms. Luckily, I had purchased my own mobile wifi. Secondly, our shower-heads did not work, which is really disappointing for a hotel of this stature. The staff was kind enough to try and fix it but to no avail. However, and this is important to note, that my friend who stayed on the floor above us had the exact same issue so it is a hotel wide issue. Thirdly, the concierge, while kind, gave us incorrect information about restaurant hours (most places close between 3-6 on Wednesdays in Kyoto) and thus, we walked around for a couple hours looking for a place to eat. Starbucks is the only thing we found open. Not the traditional kyoto meal we had in mind. Finally, the coffee bar does not open until 8:30am, so if you dont want a full breakfast, you really have no other alternative. Again, respectful staff and great shuttle service but I will not be staying with Westin again.

What a great experience we had at the Westin in Kyoto from the beautiful and incredibly spacious room to the courteous and invaluable staff. The views from the 11th floor are breathtaking and the amenities like the pool are top rate. The buffet breakfast featured a delicious feast of Japanese and Western dishes. To top it off, we were so impressed when after leaving our bags to do a last round of sightseeing the attendants held us up to say we had left behind some of my wife's jewelry in the room. Thank you so much for making our anniversary special.

The lobby was over-heated, and our 11th floor room stayed too warm despite keeping the heat completely off and opening the small window to let in the cold air. (It was a chilly 41 degrees Fahrenheit outside.)
Guests in the next room played music loudly until 11:30 PM. The walls were thin enough we could hear them every time they spoke.

Japanese style room is very old. Also low beams so be careful not to hit your head a couple of times like we did. The bathroom had a strong urine odor that spread throughout the whole room. Room felt damp and cold. Would not stay here again. Staff themselves though were very friendly and nice.

Great location for walking among the temples and gardens of East Kyoto. The hotel is not close to the center of town, but there is subway station right next door which will take you there in a few minutes.

Hotel staff were terrific: very professional and friendly. Room was clean, spacious by Japanese standards, but was in need of updating. Fitness center was small but satisfactory.

Overall experience was quite positive.

Overpriced and rundown, but great service

This hotel was incredibly expensive for the condition that it is in. It needs a major renovation to call itself a 4 star. I think Kyoto might be overpriced in general - I'd recommend staying elsewhere and paying the same amount for something much nicer.

We had a city view room, which meant that we faced the road. It isn't a high rise building, so we got a ton of street noise, especially sirens. When I asked for ear plugs, I was charged 300 yen a pair! I thought that was poor service.

Otherwise, the service was generally very good. I couldn't recommend the hotel though, just because the facilities were so run down (holes in the curtains, worn out carpets, marked up walls, etc.).

Nice location, but older hotel. They definitely need to update the rooms. Although we had a non-smoking room it smelled like smoke. Probably because many years of having smoking in the hotel. View from room was nice.The hotel was fairly inexpensive considering, but you get gouged if you plan on eating or buying anything at the hotel or getting laundry service. The food was mediocre. We were traveling with a child and ended up eating at the hotel a few times just because of pure exhaustion from the days site-seeing. After seeing the bill for the food I felt sick since the food in Kyoto was so good around town. It killed me to be spending money on so so hotel food that was over priced.

Hotel is extremely outdated. Some rooms look more like a U.S. road motel, not up to what one would expect from Westin's standarized service. Non-smoking rooms smell like burned tobacco. Staff was polite and apologetic. Food alternatives were very limited. Location is good. Concierge services are a complete disgrace. In conclusion, too expensive for what you get

This is a nice hotel, well located for Northern Higashiyama sites and easy access to the downtown areas. The hotel is looking a little older, but staff were excellent and very helpful. Biggest issue is the food. All the options are very high-end and crazy expensive for what you get.really catering for an expense account business man not families or general travelers. But, good 'atmospheric' options just down the hill.

American thirty-somethings in Kyoto

We stayed in a room with a king sized bed, which after staying at a business hotel in Tokyo, was a welcome change. The room needed updating (7804) but was otherwise just fine. He hotel is not convenient to downtown Kyoto. The hotel was a good place to explore the philosopher's walk and associated temples. Gion was a nice 20 min stroll away. The hotel provides shuttle to the Kyoto train station until 8 pm. If we find ourselves in Kyoto again, would consider staying here again. Hint: the hotel bar has a happy hour until 7 or 8 with half priced items and a great view of the mountains. If you tap out early from the summer heat, this is a good place to spend an hour or so in the early evening.

Kyoto is a great city. This hotel is ok, but I would not recommend staying for more than a day or so. We stayed in a Japanese style room, which I would not recommend. I'm not sure what the western style rooms were like. We chose the Japanese style room since we had such a great experience in a ryokan.

Pros:
-Easy access to subway station
-lobby is big and clean
-check-in was fast
-free wifi
-free shuttle to Kyoto station

Cons:
-The rooms were not up to Westin-standards. Our Japanese style room was old, small, and smelled like mold. There was no ventilation or central air conditioning. The doors are very low and there is low ceiling clearance. The walls are very thin. There's barely enough room to roll out the mattress on the floor.
-the bathroom was old and moldy. It's a western style bathroom with a toilet. However, the toilet did not flush. The \"cold\" water faucet pumped out extremely hot water. There was no ventilation in the bathrooms so there's a lot of mold. The shower window faced the courtyard so if you opened the window for ventilation everyone could see you naked, showering.
-The breakfast buffet was free but the food was not edible.
-There's only one key for the Japanese style room. It's an original key that cannot be copied so when you leave the hotel, you have to drop off your room key at the front desk.
- It's a bit of a maze to get to the Japanese style room.
- We couldn't wait to get out of this hotel.

Unique experience

Nice, quiet, premium hotel conveniently located next to Keage subway station. Helpful staff who would show you to the room and explain how things work, and great breakfast selection. Well-furnished room and comfortable beds. Bathroom equipped with ample amenities and clean towels. Shuttle bus to Gion area and Kyoto station is very helpful.
