The hotel is right on the main square (Otakar II), so location couldn't be better. Breakfast buffet was pricey but good. No A/C in my room, but a large window that opens made up for it, as the temperature was mild.
The only negative was the reception staff. Of the six hotels I used in my Czechia trip, only at Zvon did I experience coldness and an air of annoyance or condescension. I felt like my patronage was considered an inconvenience.

Good: This was my second stay at the hotel. I appreciated the view this time, and the room size was comfortable.

Staff: Generally helpful, but could be more responsive. I requested an iron and ironing board but only received the iron—and had to go downstairs to get it myself.

Breakfast: Nice variety and good options available.

Location: Conveniently located near the train station, in a historic area with a large open square.

Concern: One night, a group of bikers rode through the area, making loud noises and causing some disturbance. It was the first time I felt concerned for my safety during my time in the Czech Republic.

All in all the hotel is unique! They have many rooms hidden in the back, some can get lost with the floors and stairs, but once you know your way it is fine.
The location is great, in the heart if the square. Restaurant has the services that one would want and the breakfast selection was complete. Replenishment was also quick and frequent.
Overall, a very nice experience!
Parking is the only negative, but they do advise you at the front desk, so your options are clear.

A Stay Straight Out of a Time Capsule

If you’ve ever wanted to experience the charm of a bygone era, Grand Hotel Zvon is the place for you! Located right on the stunning main square of České Budějovice, the location is truly chef’s kiss. But step inside, and you might wonder if you’ve accidentally entered a period drama—just without the fancy costumes or dramatic plot twists.

Check-in and check-out were smooth, though don’t expect any grand welcomes (unless you count being handed a key card with quiet efficiency). The furniture has a certain “vintage” appeal—whether intentionally or because it simply hasn’t been updated in a while, I’ll leave to your imagination.

Breakfast was… there. Not bad, not amazing, just existing in its own perfectly average way. But hey, for the price, it’s a solid deal. If you’re after a central location and don’t mind décor that whispers “remember the good old days?”, Grand Hotel Zvon is a great choice. Just don’t expect a grand anything beyond the name.

Fantastic place to stay

First class experience all around. Was able to check in early and the front desk, restaurant and housekeeping were friendly and helpful. On day of departure I left early and the even packed a breakfast to eat on the train back to Prague. An extra bonus - Christmas market was right outside during my entire stay. I would highly recommend!!

Be careful of attic room

Have stayed in this hotel many times and have always rated it excellent. However this time I ended up in an attic that was obviously part of the roof, due to the roof support beams in the room. There was a very steep and unmarked step to get into the room and from the bathroom into the room. The room was very tiny and had a very low sloping ceiling (the roof) , that was very dangerous for hitting your head when walking around the room and getting out of bed. It certainly wasn't a superior room as described on the booking and paid for.

Avoid room 217 in the summer, it was extremely hot in there (my nephew was next door in 216 and their room was fine). When we brought it up to the receptionist she said others complained about room 217 too, I don't know why they keep assigning it to guests. The room itself was very nice (the toilet seat was dirty though), breakfast was excellent, lots to choose from. Great location.

However, the room was slightly smaller than expected and lacked central AC, which is normal for this area. Instead, a portable AC unit was retrofitted to the room.

Room and hotel in good condition and comfortable. The breakfast was very enjoyable and overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel.
The only downside was reception as when we asked for some additional milk shortly after arriving (only 2 little capsules were left in our room) we were told some would be sent to our room BUT none came. Disappointed as other hotels we have stayed always obliged.

Stayed for 2 nights to visit Česky Krumlov by train (tourism on a budget). Very fancy digs for a seasoned backpacker like me! Always feel under dressed in these grand old venues. Beautiful historic hotel dating from the middle ages (extensively restored and enlarged). Nothing is too much trouble, breakfast very decent and included. Quite possibly the fanciest lobby I've encountered. Rooms lacking modern comforts (eg air con, usb charging sockets). Electric fan provided, which together with 2 functioning windows sufficed for the warm July weather. Location perfect, on the main square, 5 mins to the waterfront parks, 10 to the Albert hypermarket and train/bus stations. Would happily stay again and recommend to others.

The hotel is an older European style which was nice though it had some limitations regarding charging cell phones, no usb. Our bathroom had a tub with shower which was challenging without a curtain or door. Otherwise nice and clean. Our room was on rear of building with no view of anything nice. Breakfast buffet we enjoyed with a good variety of hot and cold items, fresh breads and rolls, juices and coffee and tea. Hotel is on the main square. Must visit the Black Tower at the corner to get a view of the square and surrounding area from above.

Fab place in a fab city

I had a wonderful stay at Gran Hotel Zvon. The location was amazing, not just being right on the town square, but was within walking distance of the train and bus stations (15 mins) as well as Budweiser brewery (25 mins). The hotel breakfast was plentiful, and the free minibar was beyond expectations what with being replenished every day. I found the bed incredibly comfy, and was pleasantly surprised at what i got for my money, as my budget didnt cover the higher priced rooms, but i still got a wonderfully spacious room with bathtub which was welcomed after walking around all day. I may not have got a room overlooking the square but that isnt what its all about..i had a good nights sleep every night, i was in a fab central location, close to so many good places to eat including Solnice and Masne Kramy (amazing food and drinks in both places) so i really couldnt have chosen a better place for my base while in Ceske Budejovice.

The hotel is 3 separate buildings attached together so the interior feels like a confusing maze at times. The staff are aware of this issue and do their best to guide you through. They are also speaking German and English so communication was no issue.

Hotel needs a brighter light, better shower equipment and more plugs for phone and camera chargers. I had to hold the handle to shower otherwise the bathroom would become flooding. We had two rooms for our five person family. The junior suite for mom and dad was fine with a nice view of the plaza and air-conditioning and a big bed. However, the family suite was like something out of a bad college dorm with only a fan a tilted sofa bed and two twins and no decoration in a separate wing. It was terrible and the rooms cost the same

It is not a bad hotel per se, but the room I had was in the attack and would not have been convenient for an older person (because of wooden beams and hidden steps). The portable air con was not enough to cool down the room but on the second night I figured out that opening the two windows was much more effective than the air con. The place had efficient check in and was otherwise fine, but I wasn’t mentally prepared for the room features.

The property was well located on the square, the room was uniquely designed with a comfortable bed but the air conditioning did not work, the shower had little water pressure and lukewarm water, the staff had difficulty with English to respond to my concerns about AC and the breakfast buffet was just ok. Finally, the elevators were small and your key card only worked in the ground floor though breakfast was served on the floor above it.

There was an old lady in reception when we arrived.

Insisted in speaking German.

I have been coming to Czech Republic for 16 years, I am well aware of Czech lack of \"extra friendliness\" in hospitality and services. But this is more to do with the old generation who have a lack of friendliness or are just stuck in Iron Curtain days of communist past.

The old lady should stick to admin work.

The 2nd day and as we checked out, there was a young and friendly girl. Much more friendly.

We were a bit upset with the double bed which was requested when we booked.

Not to get into details, but when you go to a hotel with your partner and the bed keep sliding in the intimate moments, it is annoying.

Perhaps the old lady and the skinny black short haired woman working when we checked in, don't understand this situation.

Please, double beds for couples, as it is supposed to be romantic, not holding 2 beds together.

Centrally located, around 15 minutes walk from the train station. Room was clean and comfortable, bathroom spacious and clean, but in our room the hairdryer was not working. Buffet breakfast spread was good and food was nice. Recommended choice of stay in Ceske Budejovice

My reservation is superior room with air condition. The room is good size but no air condition. When I went to the reception enquire about it. All I get is 'NO' with an attitude. It doesn't really matter as its fall and the weather drop to around 15C at night. It's the responds from the receptionist that really got me. Its 3 o'clock and there's nobody behind me, she can be a little more present. It wont't hurt.

Great Hotel In Town Square

The hotel is in the perfect place right in the stunning town square. Ceske Budejovice is a fantastic and beautiful place to visit with so much to see and do right on your door step. The sights are wonderful, you can take a trip down the river on one of the boat tours and if you like ice hockey or football both stadiums are within easy walking distance of the hotel. The bus and railway stations are also easily accessible by foot. We spent a week here and could easily have stayed for a fortnight there is that much to see and do around South Bohemia. It amazes me that this area is not really much of a tourist destination as it has so much beauty and wonderful sights to see. We are already planning to return next year and will defiantly be visiting Ceske Budejovice again.

Grandhotel Zvon is very well located right at the town square. It is clean, budget friendly and has mid sized rooms,perfect to spend a night or 2. Reception staff is friendly. Breakfast is okay and can be improved.
There is free parking available just in front of the hotel until 8 am,after which it is chargeable.

None of the basic rooms have a double bed, it's two twin beds joint together. Overall a good hotel.

We did enjoy the location of the hotel, however our room had the window to a side street (Kněžská street) and due to no AC in the room, we had to sleep with an open window. Every night we heard loud talking, singing from the street below through the night. Often until 3-4 AM. It was difficult to have a peaceful night.
Restaurant was quite good, breakfast very good, service very good as well.
